I graduated college and was so excited to live in a Black city. My aunt warned me not to move to Sodom and Gomorrah, aka Atlanta. I never had black girlfriends growing up so I moved to Atlanta anyway. Excited to make new friends and build a community, I’ve experienced the exact opposite in the city of Atlanta. Many people here are so toxic like the neighbor you’ve experienced. I’d rather move back home to San Diego and have less diversity but more friendly people. I would visit Atlanta growing up and it was such a thriving and positive experience as a Black girl. “Old Atlanta” and the culture is not the same. Not to mention the city has incredibly deep corrupt systemic issues with crime and fuel, energy and food costs are amongst the highest in the nation. I’ve had my apartment in midtown by Piedmont park robbed, my car stolen when getting my hair done , friends be completely two faced and other friends get STDs from their cheating husbands. I know these circumstances are growing across America. But , notice that these demoncrat ran cities are full of low character people. I’d rather move to a state with more conservative values because I don’t hear my friends experiencing this same culture in other cities. I’m over Atlanta.

I thought I would enjoy moving there for the same reason she thought and I'm so glad I scratched it off my list. I'm not a "prude" but I definitely appreciate slightly more conservative values. I'm still contemplating other cities, but I'm spoiled by the mild weather... maybe I could get over the cold in Chicago or the heat and ratchetness in Houston or the humidity in Ft Lauderdale? I'm not sure. I've visited, and each city has major weather or geographic drawbacks. But I don't think they outweigh the demographic drawbacks in Atlanta. I miss how fun and inspiring the A was. I agree with you in that I'm not a prude, but I'm not open to everything.

Hello Mimi. I have seen so many videos of "Why I left Atlanta " . My family moved to Atlanta from Delaware by way of New Hampshire when I was nine years old. I grew up in Decatur,Georgia and Atlanta has changed a lot. You probably would have loved Atlanta more if you would have moved here back in the 1990's. I don't know how old you are. I'm 53 years old. Life is a journey and not a destination as I have been told. I think you made the right decision in leaving California. I visited Dallas back in 2003 and the city is big. Desoto, Texas is a suburb of Dallas and I hear it is a great place to live for African Americans. You living in Norcross is not the place if you are living in metro Atlanta. I know you will like Dallas. At the same time many cities are getting overpopulated with people so things never stay the same. Things may change for the worst as far as crime and dealing with traffic. I suggest you network with people in Dallas and try to find some real genuine people in the city and also find people who grew up in Dallas. They can tell you how it really is and what to look for in where to live. Congratulations on your move. I myself want to relocate from Atlanta. North Carolina is on my radar. Charlotte or maybe Raleigh-Durham area. Maybe Greensboro,NC.

My wife and I moved to GA and we was south of Atlanta in Morrow. Nope! Went to Dunwoody and that was cool but we settled in Kennesaw. Now…Atlanta is perfect if your starting a business. We’re both in tech so starting an IT firm is perfect for us. As far as jobs go you have to have some skill and aim high. Don’t come here doing Uber and Lyft and expect to come up. You have to be a platform builder. You have to build in order to truly make it here. If your just coming here to work at Amazon or some warehouse you will be stable. But if you really want to make some money and prosper. Learn a skill and start a business.

@@reimourrpower9357 real talk. I did Uber and Lyft here and the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze. I made more in a couple hours in Illinois than two days in Georgia. And the cost of living is about the same. I was working remote and driving So I managed to bring in 10K a mo the plus my wife's pay combined it was like 14K. Before inflation hit. 2020-2021 2022 we felt it. That 14K went down to 6k when I quit driving and we're back up to 12K after tax. That's when we decided to go IT firm in the financial space. So you're definitely on point! About fintech!!! We fight hard too. Took dings on credit and we don't overspend. We buy quality clothing and food which cost much more now than before. Becaaue good clothes last longer and good food keep us out the hospital. So this year for 2023 we plan to triple what we earn and work less under less restriction because we have to call off to take the kids to appointments so we're focused on automating our monthly income. We pay for a bunch of services too. Groceries, laundry, babysitters, rides because we decided not to drive or pay a monthly. But that will change and just buy a van with cash and once we get the house we want we should should be okay. We're both debt free. I had 55k and she had 17k that's eliminated. So the feeling of debt freedom is a great feeling.

I’m from Atl like actually Fulton County. I’ve also lived in SoCal and NorCal. You should never move to a city based off word of mouth. You gotta go there yourself first. Norcross is not a nice area. It’s lower middle class with a lot of Mexican people there. The south has a lot of tree and humidity, so roaches are prevalent in a lot of apartments- especially the cheaper apartments. Sorry you had a bad experience but you gotta do your homework on any city you move to before you sign a lease. Atlanta is spread out and the city it’s expensive, so if you move to the outskirts you need to see it before you lease it.

Yes I’ve heard this about the Norcross area. I’m glad we didn’t move to that area. Me and my husband stayed in Dallas Ga area 5 years ago. That area was country/small town far from the city of Atlanta. My husband did not like living there. We lasted almost two years and we went back to Florida. Georgia is not for everyone girl. Now we are happy staying west of Houston. We been in Texas now for a year and really love it. My sister n law lives in Dallas, so we come every now and then. Dallas is beautiful as well. But the nerve of that crazy neighbor lol 😆 Also we had spider issues in our town home while living in Georgia and nothing was done. I have heard other people on here mention about Georgia bug issues. But overall Texas is a better fit for us.

I don’t have too many complaints about the city we live in per se, however myself and my significant other have experienced racism 2 to 4 times already and we’ve only lived here since June 2021!! We both strongly agreed that this is NOT the place we want to permanently reside in, we’re used to a more urban or diverse scenery. We want to move south and was debating between Atlanta or Texas. I think if you have friends or family residing in safer and cleaner areas of metro Atlanta giving you advice in regards to where to live is advantageous. There are some metro Atlanta cities that I would not recommend due to high crime, lack of police protection, or I would recommend due to positive things like highway accessibility and popular and decent grocery stores, parks and recreation and community activities and decent schools. Shopping is important. Level of crime is important. Schools test scores, school curricular activities and school social and community programs and county/city sports are extremely important. I raised four children as a divorced single parent in a very safe suburb northwest of metro Atlanta. I would say going northeast or northwest or north of Atlanta if you rent with children is more family oriented, however counties such as Henry are growing tremendously with young families. My children played sports from elementary through high school in a county northwest of Atlanta, and participated in extracurricular school activities and church activities. All are millennials now that have graduated college and some are living in other larger cities in the USA for work and some are still residing here and working here residing in Midtown, Brookhaven and Buckhead. Metro Atlanta is not for everyone. Cost of living is high. Crime has accelerated tremendously. (Some blame transplants for the high crime). Unsupervised youth are out of control. BUT, you still have beautiful nature areas to walk or jog or hike and bike. You have, or used to have tons of free concerts. You still have numerous churches to choose from, and numerous bars, restaurants and lounges to choose from. Metro Atlanta can be very pleasant for those that are party goers but also pleasant for those that enjoy family activities. Pray for direction before making a major move. I moved here 30 years ago without a job and do not regret the move. But I probably would not make the move now with very young children unless there was a family member or very good friend providing temporary shelter while I explored the various suburbs. Raising young children in the actual city limits of Atlanta is NOT what I would recommend. Living within the city limits appeals to young urban professionals and young gainfully employed individuals because the cost of living in Midtown, Buckhead, Lenox, Lindbergh, Atlantic Station or near major universities is extremely expensive. Families with children should visit family oriented suburbs. Review city or county crime rates online and review school test score rankings. Most importantly, pray, and pray and pray for guidance before you pack up and relocate to any city. We must all do what is best for our families.

@Mame Fatou Gordon Are you relocating with gainfully employment waiting for you? Decent paying jobs are hard to find. There are the customer service call centers specializing in medical and automobile insurance that are remote that pay $17.00 to $30.00 per hour but those jobs can be accessed in any city in the U.S. Retail pays very little. Restaurant and bar work may pay well, on and off. The cost of living is high in metro Atlanta. Expensive. Most two bedroom two bath in popular areas are being listed from $1,600 and up. Are you relocating with children? If so, you should look at counties with schools that provide extracurricular activities and sports for children. Those areas are found in the suburbs. It’s true, the suburbs provide more for young families. Crime has accelerated in metro Atlanta but the suburbs still has a lesser amount of crime. I have a preference where I would direct young families but then there are those that would direct you in other areas. If you have young children, in my personal opinion, look north, northeast and northwest of Atlanta. But the further north you go, the traffic is heavier due to commuters, housing is more affordable, schools receive higher ratings, crime declines but of course there’s always domestic violence, and Karen and her cousins can be found but she and her cousins are also in the middle of the city. Review demographics. Do you prefer living in a multicultural area or areas where small retail stores and local restaurants cater to the cultural majority clientele. Do you want to live near the train or prefer driving in the horrendous traffic. No matter where you live, you will experience horrendous traffic. If you’re working in the actual city of Atlanta, how far do you mind driving. Are you police petrified. The police are seen in the suburbs and some officers can be annoying. The police force seen in higher crime areas are seen as a blessing. They are not as annoying because let’s face it, they have more to deal with. If you’re single and want to be near bars and lounges and restaurants for work or pleasure, look near Buckhead, Midtown, Lennox, Atlantic Station, and the gentrified Old Fourth Ward, but all are extremely expensive areas and thieves and unsupervised youth prey upon the residents of such areas and break into cars, and individuals have been robbed at gunpoint. The perpetrators do not reside in the area but prey upon the residents. DeKalb County has areas designed for the young urban professionals and surburban areas for families. Druid Hills, Emory Village area, and Brookhaven are popular for young families. If you go south, southeast or southwest of Atlanta, please do your research. Crime is higher the further south you go. Rental housing is more affordable but……. Review all apartment reviews for any apartment in metro Atlanta. If more than one reviewer says there is a pest control problem, then there probably is a pest control problem. Do a mold test. This is the south and heat and moisture breeds mold. Landlords have rights I disagree with in court. Again, review, review, review. Internet and social media can be informative. Purchasing or renting a home south of Atlanta in cities such as Fairburn, Union City, Fayetteville or southwest in Henry County is affordable and you get more bang for your buck, but again, you are in the southern suburban area with little lessor crime and more family oriented but a strong police force to keep crime low. The same with north and east and northeast and northwest Cobb County, North Fulton County, Gwinnett County, Henry County, and north DeKalb County, all areas popular for families. I cannot recommend a particular city /cities because that would be showing partiality and what is perfect for one is not perfect for another. Atlanta has many activities such as an avid night life for the party goers, theatres, concerts ( free and ticketed), professional sports, amusement and water parks (sorry, no ocean), local lakes for boaters and fisherman (avoid Lake Lanier), parks for running, biking and jogging, and river, creeks and ponds and local mountains to hike near. It’s hot in the summer and outdoor pests get bigger and become more visible during the Summer. There are pros and cons to living in any area of the USA. I would rely on prayer and guidance and direction. I hope this helps.

@@gdollars2765 that’s the issue. They need to step outside of the box. Atlanta is only one city in Georgia. That 285 circle has a good few areas but people are limiting themselves to that. There are so many people that say they don’t want to stay right in the city and want to be a bit further out too. I only mentioned those cities bc that’s where “I” stayed lmao

    ATLANTA 2023.
Midtown, Buckhead and intown upper comer neighborhoods for singles and the "developed" suburbs for families. There is also a trend among multiple roommates to share oversized apartments and houses because of location which is very important in Atlanta. You're welcome.

Mimi H if you happen to read this comment I just want you to know I'm a Bay Area native too. Born and raised in the 707 area code. I honestly don't blame you for leaving here. Smh. The high cost of living, the traffic, very few quality employment opportunities unless you work in tech, crappy dating scene, etc. I can't wait to move outta here too. Lol. I feel like I'm never gonna get ahead in life if I continue living in California. Things aren't gonna improve out here anytime soon so moving is probably the best option. I'm not sure if I wanna stay on the West Coast and just relocate to a different state out here OR move to the South? Specifically Georgia or NC? Still pondering it over 🤔 If I move to Georgia it might not be directly to Atlanta? But maybe in one of the cities close to it? We'll see. But anyway I hope you and your child are doing well in Dallas? Take care.

The only reason I don’t have an issue in ATL…..I roll SOLO. I was in the Navy here in the early 2000s, and just moved back in 2022 from DFW. I am originally from Oakland. If you are single but aren’t good as a hermit, you will feel isolated. You really want to have a profession already established. I work 1pm to 8 pm 3 days a week so I avoid traffic. I shop at ALDI. I stay in and cook at home. I only frequent occasional house music events and park in pay lots. I get up to the mountains and the Chattahoochee for nature outings. Rent from private property owners if possible. Keep your life simple and you can enjoy it.

You didn’t leave Atlanta. You left Norcross, GA. Dallas TX is gorgeous but not as cultural as Atlanta. Dallas is clean but you have to go to Houston to visit for culture. Charlotte, NC might have been a good option for you too due to great weather and in the middle of NY and FL, near DC and ATL. I moved from Charlotte in 2018 to Atlanta. I love it!

6:10 yep!!! I moved into an apt in BROOKHAVEN heart of everything nice area and the apt was INFESTED with those damn big black roaches all sizes the bldg was located near the water stream so it didn’t help…I lived in a few apts in Atlanta and didn’t have that issue but I do take issue with the fact that you are never able to view the ACTUAL UNIT you will be living in…Norcross is close to the city easy to get around and there is a huge Latino population Asian population as well…there is a side of Norcross which is closer to Peachtree corners which is beautiful so it’s about MONEY…how much you want to spend…ATLANTA is very expensive now…and you can live in a dump for 1700-2k a month easily…AGREED…raising a young black male in Atlanta is not the move…at all.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t like Georgia. Not everyone who looks Hispanic is from Mexico. Educate yourself and look at a map there are people born from different countries. Immerse yourself in other people’s cultures so that you won’t be so close minded

You moved to… Norcross, not Atlanta. 😂. Libra and lived in Norcross for 10 years. Watched it change to what you saw. It’s a place to start but you eventually move on. Living in Duluth. Much better. Johns Creek, Berkeley Lake, Alpharetta and many more.
ATL is for those who have a dream that the city can help facilitate. You have good and bad areas. You start at one place and grow into something much much more.
You should Never move to any space without being in that space prior. That is on you to know. You also shouldn’t blame ATL for you moving to Norcross. If you couldn’t afford to live in a nicer area just say that. 😂. No shade. I started in Marietta and then Norcross after. We all pay our dues.
This wasn’t for you. You weren’t built for the long haul or this wasn’t the right situation for you. All good. We wish you nothing but success. Be mad at Norcross and Peachtree Ind Blvd not the whole ATL.
Some of us made it work and it’s AMAZING!! 🤷🏿🤷🏿💪🏿
