- Started at May 29th with the seeds in the propagation box. - June 30th the mesh pots were put into the bucket with water. - August 10th I picked the first stems and leaves.
You helped me solved my catnip problem! Do I need change to bigger pot etc? I live in malaysia. Will they get mouldy if I put too many plants together?
Hi Dawn! When you have a bigger pot it means you can grow bigger roots systems and bigger plants, but you will just have to try out what works best for you :-) Good luck 😽😽@@dawnreine9526
Fresh is more potent ;-) but we are gonna have to dry it eventually because there will be too much when we are gonna harvest it... it does smell really well indeed: mint and lemon like.
Hello my friend 👋🐾the two are happy about such fresh cat nip 🐱🐱❤️that's a good idea I'll have to try it out. I only grow cat grass myself 🐱🐾nice Video thanks for sharing 😻
Ooh this is a great idea...my catnip plant started to grow outside..it tried to survive twice then 3rd time it needed human assistance..now its growing inside a mesh lol its hard to save it..but trying my best..i will try this..thank you for sharing. ♥️🤗👍
I think when I try to grow catnip outside it will quickly dominate our garden :-) like mint it can grow pretty wild. Best to grow it in pots or containers indeed. Thanks again for your kind comment ! 🧡🧡
wow, its such beautiful shots and super informative 💖 i had no idea how to grow catnip at home and my cat never tried it fresh, now i will defintely try it
You will probably need to buy some stuff on amazon but it's really easy and you can grow lots of other stuff like this. We have also grown basil monsters. Make sure to buy a good rockwool though :-) one that's suited for hydroponics.
Two years ago I bought mint seeds to grow. But the plant was so strange and smells not like common mint. Now I understand (after this video) ...it was catnip seeds)
Thank you ! This picture was only for thumbnail purposes ;-) we have a guestroom filled with plants and setups which they are not allowed in. They would have destroyed it no doubt...
Wow!! Great idea.! How long does it take for a catnip to germinate or rooted in the water? Cause I have here an all-in-one catnip and cat grass kit that I haven’t started to grow.
It depends a bit. My sprouts took some time to grow before I could put them in the water. We didn't have the best weather here during spring and summer. I started May 29 with the seeds in the propagation box and it was around 1 month later that I put them in the bucket with water :-) just make sure to keep the seeds moist while they are germinating.
@@MellaMaia Thank you for sharing the full details. Really appreciate it! Maybe I’ll try to growing catnip in soil and in a water too! Great video. And I can see Maia and Mella really enjoyed the fresh catnip 🍃🌱a lot! 😻🧡🖤 Have a great day!
My catnip is acting VERY weird. A brand-new pack of seeds so I tried 3 seeds in a paper towel to no avail. I went scouring the Interwebz to see and tried 12h in the fridge then 12h soaking. After a week in the seed starting mix most of them sprouted then are just sitting there for two to three days now at the same height. I am not sure what is going on with them.
I have had mixed results when growing in soil aswell. The great thing with hydro growing is you don't have to worry about the watering part lol. Hope your seedlings will turn out ok !
@@MellaMaia I went to the double cup method with a nice nute mixture and they really woke up. What they were doing was, as I thought, growing their roots down. I just now pulled one out to stick it into a 1.34 EC and 5.56 pH. Let's see how it goes as my tomatoes are all doing wonderful (though different EC and pH than the Catnip requires). edit: OOPS, I went to go see it and it had shrivled up and will probably die. I stuck it back into the soil it came from. This is where I have problems as I never know when is a safe time to transplant them from soil to Kratky.
@@generalawareness101 ah ok, now I get what you were doing ! You started in soil and wanted to transplant them in water... That's something I never do personally, because the seedlings are too delicate and I would almost always end up destroying them. That's why when I grow Kratky I start by sowing directly onto the rockwool. Worked great with basil too. Maybe the EC of your nutrient solution could be a bit too high? To start with I mean ;-)
@@MellaMaia Not sure as I was going off of a Google search, and they all said 1.1 to 1.6. Too immature so I think, as I learn, that any plant less than six inches tall not to transplant. Four would be the bare minimum depending on the plant.
@@generalawareness101 Yeah, I think I've read that same Google search result. I'm just always very careful in the beginning with the EC, when I see they take off I'll gradually increase EC.
You can also grow it in soil :-) preferably sandy and well draining. Basically grow it like mint...I wouldn't grow it in my garden though, because it will take it over like a weed. Personally, I like to grow herbs hydroponically and as you can see this kratky method is super easy :-)
