    The Paradise fire helped expose the rocks. Been up there a couple times since. Theres also black nephrite (Concow) up and down the Feather River, as well as idocrase (Pulga Jade) and hydrogrossular garnet.

    I live in San Francisco and serpentine is everywhere, including my backyard. I get excited when I find a rock that isn't green. Most of San Francisco was built on sand dunes, so we don't have a variety of rocks. Good thing there's Etsy so I can buy any kind of rock that I want.

    Doing a powerpoint presentation on this metamorphic rock for my geology course. Thanks for the video because i was curious as to what this rock looked like out in the wild.

    I love that stone I know been used to made fake jade stuff. But I love the color of alot of these type of stone. I'd be so happy to find that. Be cool to make cool carving or something.

      Actually Serpentine is a low temperature metamorphic rock using seawater in the process.

    I know where to find clay that formed from serpentine. It is called Blue Goo. It is really cool. Blue Goo can be found in Humboldt County, Northern California.

    Thanks for this great video. Pretty darn cool!
    I'm sorry, didn't understand in the video. Did you say that was "Domino Peak"? If I'm ever in the area I'd love to ride by. What road is that?

    That's very cool! I've only ever seen serpentine in tiny outcrops, never in massive beds. I can't help but wonder if anyone has quarried here. Sheets of this would make spectacular kitchen countertops!

      FYI Serpentine contains asbestos

    • @FindingNorcal
      @FindingNorcal  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it seems to have been quarried ...but IDK for what! Jeff is correct..asbestos

    I think when the Central Valley was full of water eons ago, I think upper Mag-ah-lia (Magalia haha the fun way to say it), used to be beach front property. And I know that just from finding odd ocean mollusk type fossils up above Forest Ranch. I could be wrong too but I think my old Geog teacher did say the highest point of water was just about that high. Cool video though. I’ll have to check it out.

      Serpentine is considered by geoscientists to be the metamorphosed remains of magnesium-rich igneous rocks, most commonly the rock peridotite, from the earth's mantle. The mantle is a thick layer of rock just below the earth's crust.
