Why not for the power and ground just crimp ring terminals onto the wires and attach them to the IGN and GND screws for the oil guage? No need for dodgy splices then.
Awesome install! Canbus is the future and I’m so glad to see you are bringing some awareness to the Miata community about it. It is unbelievably versatile.
Pro tip, put a fuse on that spur for the power. I had a canchecked die from powering off the gauge (seemed to blow the regulator after a couple of cranks after a stall or three) and took part of the film on the cluster with it. I now have the replacement powered from an extra fuse box I installed for additional gauges, sensors, and hard wired chargers and it's been good as gold since.
Cobalt Exhaust is really good. Personally I think it's one of the best sounding exhausts for the Miata and they make a Dual Tip version that just looks awesome
I have a 99 with the bp4w. Its running a cobalt mid with hi flow cat and a roadster sport muffler. I am super happy with how it sounds. Not too loud and very little drone.
I have the roadstersport 4 with the sport cat and it is a very good sounding exhaust. Not too loud. At freeway speeds (80ish) the wind noise is louder than the exhaust unless you get on the gas. Idle is very tame but when you get the revs up it gets aggressive sounding with slight pops on engine breaking.
I have the roadstersport 3 and I like it. It does drone on the highway but I wouldn't call it unbearable. The 4th version is supposed to address that with the addition of a resonator. If it sounds anything like the 3, you'll probably like it.
Thanks for the video and helped me greatly with my decision to move forward with one that just came available on BOFI. Question, why not use the IGN and Grd where the gauge screws are instead of splicing the cluster wires?
roadster sport 4(heimholtz) FTW. I just did a.complete exhaust, headers, all the way back, sounds great, not too loud imho, but also not too quiet either.

I just got a cobalt and I would say it's a solid choice. It's pretty quiet but it's still loud enough to drown out the noise of my RB intake, which used to be the dominant noise with a stock exhaust. The main perk is little to no drone. I don't know much about the roadster sport but it's definitely quieter than the Cobalt.
Roadster Sport 4 for-sure man. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I'm looking forward to a tunable exhaust, no drone, and a personality that responds appropriately to different driving conditions. Look forward to seeing what you choose.
