I’ve had a couple dozen turntables over the last few years. I’ve gone back and forth between belt and direct drive, manual, semi-automatic and fully auto. Recently, I scored a minty Dual 1219 which I had CLAd by Bill at FixMyDual. I fitted a vintage Shure V15 type III and a Jico SAS-B stylus. I’m loving it.

I think the different types of turntables have their benefits. I use a direct drive fully automatic Sony regularly.
Nice collection of equipment and experience. I use the Shure V15 type V vs the type III. I recall that some prefer the type III over the type V. Keep it up! -Jon

I feel as long as the turntable is level and the wow and fluter are stable, your cartridge and phone-stage will make the most improvements to the sound. And it all depends on how deep into the rabbit hole you want to go?

You adjust the CS 5000 with the feets. But it is a pain in the ass to get right. The VTA headshell is hard to find for the DUAL , but the fixed one is not hard to find.
And the CS is half automatic, it will lover the arm by it self when it get up to right speed.
You can fool the Dual, off the belt . Put it in 78 turn the platter manual . When it locks it will drop. Then You can stop the platter and do what You want to do.

I found the feet hard to adjust as well. I was hoping to find another VTA headshell, but as you say - hard to find today.
Good tip on fooling the CS for lowering the arm without spinning the platter. Thanks - Jon

    Hi there great videos,
I own the cs5000 and upon uncoupling the belt from the motor the tonearm will lower down to the plater which is how I measure the cartridge weight with my digital scale.

I have 3 of the Sony PS X500 Biotracer player. None work and never found anyone to repair. My two (2) Dual CS-5000 turntables work as new, to this very day. Dual good, Sony no good.

I guess I have been lucky so far with my Biotracer. The Dual CS-5000 is more likely to out last due to its simple yet elegant design. It is a very good turntable.-Jon
