Roadrunner, he isn't just a comic figure, he really exists. And he can run, so fast and so agile that you could almost forget that as a bird he should actually fly. He is quite a sight with his odd looks, his funny nature and his intelligent, canny behaviour. For this bird, its strong, nimble feet are an important tool. When fleeing, when hunting prey - a roadrunner always relies on the speed of its legs. His territory is usually several square kilometres in size and it feeds mainly on small animals including insects, spiders, tarantulas, centipedes, scorpions, mice, small birds, and especially lizards and snakes. Even rattlesnakes are no match for this snakekiller!

To roadrunners a rattlesnake rattle isn't a warning, it's a dinner bell.
not really. He sized the snake decided it was small enough. You see the roadrunner is very fast but only over the range of his torso + neck. If the snake is bigger it can lunge further than that and then the roadrunner can no longer approach it safely. Besides killing a larger snake with a beak is more difficult.
It’s a risk v. reward scenario every time - roadrunners can get killed by even smaller rattlesnakes, 1 bite is all it takes and they know that. They’re definitely not immune to venom or getting struck. It happens…
@@flanagamer smaller younger snake more potent poison less volume, big snake less potent poison more volume but snake can control amount of volume injected. Either way all size venomous snake are dangerous.
The rattling of the deadly snake could not intimidate the Roadrunner! He is a dauntless and courageous party. Really surprising: the fierce beak ,the quick reflexes and the will to win made him the real winner. A real soldier in the roadrunner.
And stronger than they appear. Never forget what one in my backyard did to a starling sized bird. Beat it to death then picked it up and flew away. Has always been my favorite bird.
He sized the rattlesnake and decided it was not too big, just good. I assume larger rattlers though slower have other tricks in their arsenal, like more reach and power. The birdie is quick but only over his torso and neck movement. If the snake can lunge more than that range he is at higher risk.

The reaction time of the Road Runner is beyond belief ... One study at The University of Louisiana, Lafayette, found that rattlesnakes were the fastest striking among venomous snakes. The study revealed that rattlesnakes can lunge forward half of a foot in only 70 milliseconds, which is faster than the blink of an eye. The Road Runners moved back the same distance in only 40 milliseconds ... WOW

A little more than 25 years ago l lived in North Louisiana. I was off one of the State highways, on a parish road and saw something dart across the road.
I slowly approached the area and couldn't believe l was seeing a roadrunner that far East.
But l guess anything is possible nowadays!

Thanks. Nice footage. I'm a retired Marine, having been stationed a few times at both Camp Pendleton and MCB 29 Palms. I saw a roadrunner at Pendleton at the top of Cone Hill that actually made a noise like the cartoon roadrunner. I saw many at 29 Palms, hunting in the well watered housing area. Like mockingbirds, they flare their wings to cast a shadow, causing their prey to flee, and reveal their location. They are brilliant hunters.

Mongoose and Roadrunner both are fast and furious.
I actually had one as a house pet. Hatched among some chicken eggs. And I must admit that the roadrunner is one the most noble , playful and obedient birds when domesticated.
They are fearless, yet friendly around here. They’ll walk damn near up to you and make call sounds. If working in the yard, they are curious-just I case you disturb a lizard for their dinner. Folks here I’ve been told feed them hot dogs, which they like. I’ve never taken to carrying hot dogs in my pocket however.
@John Luiten Highly loyal to their owners or care takers. Sadly, with my roadrunner, a hunter assumed that it was a wild one and therefore took a shot and killed my beloved pet. It actually hurts me saying this, but life has no guarantee.
@@elijahhacks6399 Not sure where you live, however in AZ roadrunners are protected under the 1918 Federal migratory bird act. That should cover them anywhere else as well. Our Game and Fish people takes a dim view of shooting roadrunners. Indeed, just the other week or so, some idiot shot a roadrunner at the local shooting range. He now has G&F on his butt (the other shooters reported him). Illegal taking has a hefty fine.
Ive wanted a pet one forever.i thought they would make great pets. We had a breeding pair for years nesting on a shelf at my parents house growing up.they are hard on the baby quail we have here. they are doing well in lake havasu

I absolutely adore these guys here in southern Utah! I see them quite often in my neighborhood chasing whiptails, and desert iguanas. They are SO fascinating to just sit and watch for hours, they have more personality than a lot of humans I know!

What a fascinating animal. For us he looks like a funny little running bird, but for the snakes, lizards etc. he must be absolutely terrifying. A deadly super fast predator who bashes your skull against the ground until you're dead if he catches you.
O my yes, they are fierce, and larger than most common birds here, they stand almost a foot high. They eat many reptiles, and many baby birds.

The 6,000 year work of GOD'S RULE is DIVIDED into THREE PHASES: The Age of Law, the Age of Grace, and the Age of Kingdom. 🙏
These THREE PHASES of WORK are ALL for the SAKE of SALVATION, which means they are for the SALVATION of a HUMAN BEING TOO MUCH CORRUPTED by SATAN. But, at the same time, they are also so that GOD can wage WAR against SATAN. ☀️
So, since the work of SALVATION is DIVIDED into THREE STAGES, so the WAR with SATAN is also DIVIDED into THREE STAGES, and both aspects of God's work will be administered simultaneously.
The WAR with Satan is really for the SAKE of the SALVATION of mankind, and since the work of salvation of mankind is not something that can be successfully completed in one stage, the war with Satan is also divided into parts and stages, and the war against Satan will be carried out according to the needs of man and the EXTENT of Satan's CORRUPTION in him.
Perhaps, in man's imagination, he believes that in this war God will prepare to fight against Satan, in the same way that two armies will fight against each other.

Satan will be DEFEATED THROUGH CHANGING THE CORRUPT DISPOSITION OF MAN. ☀️
When SATAN has been DEFEATED, that is, when MAN is COMPLETELY SAFE, THEN THE SHAMEFUL SATAN WILL ALWAYS BE BOUND, and in this WAY, MAN will be COMPLETELY SAVED. 🙏
And so, the SPIRIT of MAN'S SALVATION is the WAR with SATAN, and the WAR with SATAN is primarily REFLECTED in MAN'S SALVATION.
The STAGE in the LAST DAYS, where man will be CONQUERED, is the LAST STAGE in the WAR against SATAN, and this is also the WORK for the COMPLETE SALVATION of MAN from SATAN'S DOMINION. The INNER MEANING of the CONQUEST of MAN is the RETURN of Satan's symbol, the MAN whom Satan RUINED, to CREATE following his CONQUEST, THROUGH which he will forsake Satan and EVER RETURN to GOD. ☀️🙏
IN THIS WAY, MAN WILL ALWAYS BE SAVED. And so, the work of CONQUEST is the LAST WORK in the WAR AGAINST SATAN, and the LAST PHASE in GOD'S GOVERNMENT for the SAKE of DEFEATING SATAN. ☀️
WITHOUT THIS WORK, THE COMPLETE SALVATION OF MAN IN THE LAST WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE, THE COMPLETE DEFEAT OF SATAN WOULD ALSO BE IMPOSSIBLE, AND HUMANITY WOULD NEVER ENTER THE WONDERFUL DESTINY, OR ESCAPE SATAN'S INFLUENCE. 🙏
Because of this, the work of SAVING MAN cannot be finished until the war with Satan is finished, because the summary of the work in God's management is for the sake of human salvation. The very first mankind was in the hands of God, but because of Satan's TEMPTATION and CORRUPTION, man was BOUND by SATAN and FELL into the HANDS of EVIL. ☀️
So Satan became something to be DEFEATED in the WORK of GOD'S GOVERNMENT. Because MAN IS POSSESSED BY SATAN, and because man is the PRODUCT of ALL GOD'S GOVERNMENT, then he must be TAKEN OUT OF SATAN'S HANDS, this is to say that man must be RECOVERED AFTER SATAN'S CAPTIVITY.
SATAN IS DEFEATED THROUGH CHANGES IN MAN'S OLD DISPOSITION RESTORED TO HIS ORIGINAL FEELINGS, and in this way, man, having been CAPTURED, can again be TAKEN into Satan's HANDS. ☀️
If MAN CAN BE FREED from Satan's INFLUENCE and SLAVERY, Satan WILL BE SHAMEFUL, man will ultimately be RECOVERED, and Satan WILL BE DEFEATED. ☀️
And because man is FREED from Satan's DARK INFLUENCE, and man will be the spoil in all these BATTLES, and Satan will be the THING TO BE PUNISHED AT THE TIME THIS BATTLE IS OVER, AFTER THE WHOLE WORK OF SALVATION IS DONE of HUMANITY is COMPLETE. 🙏

For sure, but it is strange that beaked dinosaurs survived but toothed dinosaurs didn't. Beak are primarily for eating insects and small reptiles. Raptor birds hooked beak is an exception but they usually kill with talons. Commodo dragons are varans reptiles not dinosaurs, and crocs are a category of their own both attack prey by ambush. But this roadrunner bird gives us an idea how dinosaurs hunted chasing prey, it's must have been frightening as they persistently chase and search with their eyes and are ferocious and strong.

I used to jog in the park near my home in Maricopa, Arizona, and these little guys would pop out onto the perimeter trail and keep me company. I also saw burrowing owls on the same trail.
I once lived at a place where there was a lot of lizards 🦎. One day I noticed my lizards were gone. Then I realized I had a road runner visiting.

AMAZING COMICAL BIRDS
I lived in Carpinteria California for two years. I would run thru a bird sanctuary and occasionally see a road runner. He would alway run in front of me and then stop and turn around. I would chase after him. I felt like Wiley Coyote. My friend and i were running a half marathon at Joshua Tree National Park. The race was at night. That morning we saw a road runner and he wanted us to chase him as well.

I live in New Mexico USA and see road runners every day. They make a funny sound and I know they are nearby. You can get somewhat close to them before they run away. They are VERY aggressive and skilled hunters and VERY fast runners. Their main diet are lizards and birds but I saw one kill a baby bunny last year and it wanted to begin eating it on my property before I shooed it away. Minutes later, a violent thunderstorm hit the area and the roadrunner and his bunny meal had to take cover.

I live in central Arizona. Hundreds of lizards run around my yard. This year many of them were missing their tails which is unusual to see so many tailess. I later spotted a roadrunner close by. Wonder if he is the reason? Very interesting to watch his behavior. My presence did not bother him even as i got close to him. Fascinating

Great Video! A couple years ago for about a month I fed a Roadrunner at the Rancho Mirage CA Library parking lot. It got to know my car and the time I took a break there. I gave it stuff like tuna lettuce bread tomato. Such an intelligent fast moving always alert land bird!

Road Runners are aptly named. Human-built roads are much easier for them to run along than tall grass, shrubs. or woods. I have seen one running along the edge of a gravel road, avoiding the bordering tall grass, and perhaps a hundred feet ahead of my pickup truck. When he got to a tight 90-degree "T" road intersection he hung a right much faster than I would have been able to.

We have these birds around here that run around like these guys and the make will fake like he’s injured and put on quite a show indeed . They’re like black and white and hardly fly at all but move pretty quick on the ground . They’re fun to watch for sure . I just saw a pair last week and the male put on a real good broken wing show . Had his tail up in the air . The funniest part is when he looked to see if I was watching and slowed his roll for ineffectiveness

Yes, Killdeer...they bravely make their nest right on the open ground in the middle of dirt and rocks. Years ago before I knew what it was, I saw the 'injured' bird on an open lot and had no idea what to make of it. Then you see the little ones popping their heads up and down underneath the parent.

I love Road Runners. I lived in Texas for years, I am a Zoology grad, so I love animals. We had two breeding pairs of Rails, as the Texans call them, living on our property. They would follow my Shepherd and I around the property as I worked. I scared up grasshoppers and the lizards which they eat. One female even played with my Shepherd. When my dog got too close she would fly a short distance and watch.
One day one ran across our brick patio to follow my dog and I to the garden, but it diverted to the deck steps. It walked up the steps and turned it's head to the side to watch inside, my wife was watching the Rangers game and she say it too. It just watched her and the game on TV. Then ran down to the garden for dinner.
Weird thing I discovered, they nest at the top of some very tall trees. The young want to run and fall out of the nests a lot. Impossible to put them back but i put them on limbs, they wouldn't be there in a while. Kool birds though.

Beautiful video...well done guys. Conserve wildlife habitats and don't use pesticides. We need to learn to live in harmony with nature. Every creature counts when it comes to a healthy ecosystem.
i consider that kind of talk teddy bear approach it's all warm and comfy but the reality is, you have to go after the pesticide companies and bring them down. 99% of people want to protect nature, but that one percent who take profit over crime don't care. They must be fought head on, like the birdie attacked that snake.
