Even they now has the Type 10, it still will take alot of year to completely replace the Type 90 or eventually Type 74 (Type 74 is also current serves the JSDF yet we have them in the game). The Type 90 prototypes developed since 1970s and completed in 1980s. I would say the Type 90 first seen was also in 1980s because it was put into mass production and service in 1990s hence it was called Type ''90''. See the Challenger 1 it is also an 1980s MBT and it will be the british top tier so it would be no reason to refuse the Type 90 as Japanese top tier tank...
This tank is a fair bit more advanced than the Challenger 1, Leopard 2K, T-64BV and M1 Abrams (assuming we even get the last two, those have been unconfirmed leaks only so far). I don't see how this would be remotely balanced...
its impressive how the japanese adapt so quickly to modern war with their own industry. they did it in the late 1800's early 1900's from katanas and bows and arrows to bolt actions and cannons and they did it again after ww2

K1 is more modern because the Type 90 is quite older, plus Japanese type 90 was not based on any german vehicle, The only thing it shared with a german vehicle is its gun
If the Type 90 is a "version of the Leopard 2k" just because of the licensed Rheinmetall gun it uses, the Korean K1 would be a Korean version of the Leopard 1 / Centurion Mk5 / M60 / Type 74 tank because it uses the Royal Ordnance L7.
