Harley starter will not stay engaged

As an update to this. I've since sold the motorcycle long ago. But I found a place here locally that was able to rebuild the starter. After having that done this issue was resolved.
This is before putting a full charge in the batter. After fully charging the battery I do still have this issue, but it is more likely to engage with a full charge.

I had a local shop just do a complete rebuild on it. It actually was some sort of aftermarket high performance starter that just died and I had no time to order a new one. The bike had a ton of modifications done to it though, so I'm sure it wore on the starter every time I cranked the thing over.

I know this has been here for a minute but the issue is the starter clutch it happens mostly with the 103 cubic inch Harley. but you can order a high performance starter clutch from Terry components and you should not have this issue again.

I had the whole starter re worked at a shop......fixed it right up. I have since sold the bike though. And Goldwings are like fat chicks. Kinda fun to ride but sure as hell dont want your friends to see you on one.

Starter clutch is shot. About a $120 part.

Is that a bdl belt drive cause if it is this is a known issue. Im. Mine did the same thing and its a new starter since I replaced the other one thinking it was the issue. After I cleaned the mount bolts starter housing and bdl casing "sandpaper to make them ruff for contact purposes" it stopped doing it and now works great

mine does that shit too, replace the starter, it only happens when its warm, so im geussing its the solenoid

My 84 fxr is doing this and kicks back into the flywheel the odd time i put new starter and solenoid on still does it.I even bypast the starter relay with start button same results
