  • Only a short ride (28 kms) but there was an 'interesting' incident......
Update on the road rule that I mention: the 1 metre clearance that motor vehicles are supposed to give us cyclists applied only in built-up areas, i.e. towns, cities, etc.
Outside urban areas the distance is 1.5 metres!
I only found out this little bit of info quite recently.

I hope I can still ride when I reach your age. You are quite an inspiration, thanks for sharing!

Good on you Charlie C. I like your bemused and reflective attitude to being nearly side-swiped by a renegade truck. Maybe you expressed some more colourful language at the time of the incident :) You’re an inspiration, not just for your cycling but also for your ability to master all this modern computer/internet/video technology. Sound of mind and body, and a proper Aussie gentleman as well!

Thanks for the very nice comment, Albert! I guess that, over the years that I've been a cyclist, I have become resigned to the behaviour of some drivers. When I lived and rode near the fringe of Sydney, a car pulled up ahead of me and the front-seat passenger got out and started to abuse me (verbally), because I had FORCED the driver into the right-hand lane. Strange thing is that the two lanes merged into one and the kerb actually followed it out, so I don't know what he usually did, assuming he was a local, of course.
