Grey Shrike thrush North Coast NSW
The photo I've used in this video is not the actual bird in the audio - but it is the same species. Okay, re the audio, firstly it's best if you use headphones to listen to it, so that you can appreciate the wonderful sound 'picture' it conveys. It was recorded in a part of the forest that is quite close to the most direct road from Grafton to Armidale in northern NSW. I could not see the bird, while I was making the recording, but the experts at the Australian Museum identified it by its wonderful call. (I already suspected that it was a Grey Shrike-thrush.) If you have watched my other video, 'Aussie Birds and Their Calls - new, revised edition', you will have already heard the first call of this bird that I recorded. In fact, it was the reason that I got 'into' recording bird calls. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Maybe next time, I'll make a much longer recording!!

Aussie birds and their calls - new, revised version
มุมมอง 490K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my 'latest and greatest' version of Aussie birds and their calls. It includes a number of different birds that weren't in the previous two versions. It also includes two photos that I didn't take, both of which I have credited to the photographers invoolved - and I thank them for their generosity. My apologies for the poor quality of several of the photos but they were the only ones I h...
How NOT to make a music video!!

Well, I finally bit the bullet (or was it my tongue?) and decided to upload this little video that I made several weeks ago. You don't HAVE to count or list the errors but I'm sure you will find many, especially those of the LOUD kind. Enjoy!
IS THIS THE BEST PHONE FOR VIDEOS?

Short demo of how well the Video Stabilisation works in Samsung Galaxy S5. The phone was held in a bracket on the handlebars of my bicycle, while I recorded the video. The REALLY interesting part of it is how much of the vibrations from the gravel road were negated by the Samsung Galaxy S5's Video Stabilisation setting. The line that I rode on comprised ALMOST CONSTANT small bumps, one after th...
My Best Shots or How I Have Seen the World Over The Years

A selection of some of my best still images, mostly digital but some scanned from 35mm film. There is one, for which I have omitted a title. It is of the formation in the Blue Mountains of N.S.W., known as The Three Sisters. Sorry about that. Also, here is the way I took the photo of the Tawny Frogmouth that has a cicada in its beak: Firstly, I was using a Pentax MZ-7 35mm SLR camera, probably ...

One scene from a very short, aborted bike ride plus another scene - Iandra Castle - that I should have ridden past. Also, my excuse for not continuing on the ride, which was meant to be about 70 kms but ended up only 13 kms! At the end are 5 stills taken several years ago at Iandra Castle.
Veteran and Vintage Cars - All 100 years old, minimum.

There were lots of visitors to our town the other day. The bottom end of Main Street was blocked off to through traffic, so these old-timers could drive in and create a big display. There must have been around 100 cars and ALL of them were at least 100 years old. Amazing! I'm sure they were worth a pretty penny!
Kiama and Jamberoo, NSW, Australia.
มุมมอง 2805 ปีที่แล้ว
On a recent visit to Kiama, NSW, Australia and nearby Jamberoo, I took a series of short video clips, which I have finally joined together to make this 'big' production. At the end of the video, there are several still photos, the last of which is from neither Kiama nor Jamberoo. It was taken at Stanwell Park - but it's really worth seeing..
Editing background noise from video - What a difference!
มุมมอง 725 ปีที่แล้ว
For quite a while now, I've wanted to record video whilst riding my bike. Finally, I found a suitable handlebar mount for the mobile phone and, after setting it up, I took a short spin along the back lane. Wow! The video part was fine but the rumble from the bike came through unbelievably loud!! Well - nil desperandum - I set about getting rid of the offensive background noise, using the 'tools...
2018 Henry Lawson Festival Grenfell
มุมมอง 4136 ปีที่แล้ว
This was the 61st Henry Lawson Festival in Grenfell, N.S.W., Australia. Henry Lawson was an author and poet, who was renowned for capturing the spirit of 'the bush' in his prose and poetry. As he was born on the goldfields just outside Grenfell, it's appropriate that Grenfell should produce a festival honouring him. It is held on the Queen's Birthday Holiday weekend each year, because Henry Law...

This is what was left of our local Music Club Choir ( one interloper!) just over 4 years ago. Unfortunately, the choir is now defunct. We were entertaining the residents of our local nursing home on a Sunday afternoon near St. Patrick's Day. As you can hear, we were singing a lovely Irish song, I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen - one of my favourite Irish songs. Our accompanist was a local mus...
Of Spiders and Crickets

Some information about spiders and crickets - or the Funnel Web spider and one particular cricket, at least. If you hate insects of all kinds, this may change your mind about crickets, at least. I, for one, love them for their chirping alone.
My latest ride
มุมมอง 416 ปีที่แล้ว
Only a short ride (28 kms) but there was an 'interesting' incident...... Update on the road rule that I mention: the 1 metre clearance that motor vehicles are supposed to give us cyclists applied only in built-up areas, i.e. towns, cities, etc. Outside urban areas the distance is 1.5 metres! I only found out this little bit of info quite recently.

Does anyone know which annoying ass bird starts calling at 6am, going like hau-auuuu every 20 seconds?
Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo: And now for something completely different... [SCREECHING]
Our Great Pyr, who was born and raised in Canada where I now live, was VERY interested in this video.
Ah, I see you're talking about a dog. Yes, dogs and cats will react to bird calls.
Thanks for putting this together 👍🙏🏼
Still can't find the birth that I'm looking for, used to hear it on the Gold Coast, has very distinctive call but cant find it anywhere
Great stuff thanks Brian cheers🎉
I'm searching Bird call that sound English pronunciation like "Vic-toria"
@pranavvaidya3634 Sorry, can't help with that one.
Visited Australia last month & i miss all of the bird sounds, especially the whipbird!
I finally know what kind of bird was making that weird noise, a whipbird! Thank you :)
Some marvelouse birds and their calls. I recognize a few, but still some I hear locally I cannot find out what they are. We call the Common Koel Storm Birds.
@54wendel Yes, the Koel is known by a number of different names, not all of them printable, thanks to their early morning habits!
clicked on this video to find that one bird call from when i was younger i'll edit and say the bird if i reconise the call edit: i have no fing idea what bird it is
Excellent video! The yellow tale black cockatoos often reminds me of screechy chairs.
Is the Bell Miner related to the Noisy Miner?
Yes
I believe there is no more a haunting call than a Bushstone Curlew calling at night and think they should always be included in bird lists. Other than the noise of koalas at night, no other sound is quite disarming as that of the curlew's
@dougallmcmillan8970 Now, how could I have missed that one? Well, firstly I've not had the opportunity to record their call and, secondly, I've never managed to get a photo of one.
The Greater Sooty Owl is the bird that makes you wish you had Curlews !..
So beautiful!!! Thank you!!! Happy to find your channel! Subscribed!!!❤❤❤❤
@Virginianature7 Glad you liked it! Thanks for subscribing.

I'm watching an Australian TV show & keep hearing a bird I can't identify. Show is filmed around Sydney & the bird sounds kind of like an American raven talking, kind of a creepy sound. Does anyone know what it is?
@shanarussell5549 Sorry, I have no idea what an American raven sounds like.
Brian, do you know what bird calls very loudly "Tyler". It was really screeching above me today at Tamborine Mountain in Queensland.
@PamelaValemont Sorry, I don't.
Most Aussie birds will text.
@BlueBeeMCMLXI Ha, ha!
The fantailed cuckoo has eluded me for years, but now I know what I'm looking for, I hope to spot one soon. Thank you! This bird has been driving me crazy...
@Devo491 Glad to be of service! I only ever heard it, when I lived near the Nepean River, to the south-west of Sydney, but I just enjoyed its call. Even when I managed to get a photo, I still didn't know what it was, but the Ornithologists at the Australian Museum ID'd it from my photo. Same with the audio; I had no idea what bird made the call so I sent it to the crew at the A.M. and they ID'd it - all in a day's work for them!
You should include the spotted dove. I have strong nostalgia hearing that from when I visited by grandparents home in Brisbane and we slept the night then woke up to the lovely warm queensland morning with spotted dove calls slowly easing us awake
@starbirds2464 Yes, there are lots of birds I could include BUT I like to use my own 'work', i.e. photos and audio, and I just don't have either of those for the Spotted Dove.
What a wonderful collection you have put together! 🙏Thankyou. I hear so many of these around home and when walking & hiking. It's certainly helped me 'put a name to a face' or better still ' a bird to a sound'! You have helped us solve some tricky questions too😊
@1957bluebird Thanks so much! I'm glad it was of use to you!
What are the birds that make the long single note call that sounds like a child crying at 3 am pls? I thought it was a Plover
@AZ-so2wc Must be a few typos in your query. I can't make head or tail of it....
@@brianward7724 thanx.. I edited it
@@AZ-so2wc Okay, I now understand the question. However, I have no idea what bird makes a sound like that. If you are able to record the sound and send that to the ornithologists at the Australian Museum in Sydney, they should be able to ID the bird.
@@brianward7724 I thought it was the Curlew or the Plover... But no one seems to agree 👍🏼
My butcher birds and currawong make very different sounds to those... Local dialect, I guess lol
@AZ-so2wc Could be.
I live in sw sydney region + have heard a smallish bird with a horrible annoying call. Brown or black bird + pretty stubborn. You can't shoo it away. Any ideas on what it could be.
@cgku If it has some yellow around its eyes, it is the imported Common Myna aka Indian Mynah. They are pests.
@@brianward7724 thanks but it isn't the IM. Apologies my description isn't great. The female is greyish. Quite a slimish profile
@@cgku Sorry, I can't think what else it might be. If you can get a photo and send to me on F/book, I may be able to help you.
I've never heard a wagtail make that sound.
Now I finally know the red wattle call, I found one with a broken wing two weeks ago and took it to the vet. Haven't heard back yet.
I hear the grey butcherbird call all the time and never knew what it was.
@Euro.Patriot Well, that surprises me, because that's their most common call. It's just that the calls vary a little from area to area and this one (recorded @ Scone, NSW) is absolutely the best Willie Wagtail call I've heard.
Great video......love to know what birds I can hear in my north western Sydney neighbourhood!
@luminair11 Glad you liked it! Many of the birds in the video are widespread, so you would have heard some of them, for sure.
Hey Brian - I was wondering if I could get your permission to use some of these bird sounds in a song? (They would be remixed and edited in some way / shape / form). I've been trying to record some of these myself to make a percussive element in a song, but this recording is AMAZING!
@CharlieEvans That's okay, as long as you list me as the owner/recorder of the calls you use.
@@brianward7724 Thanks Brian! Will absolutely do that, and will let you know if I come up with anything. Thanks & Blessings.
Thank you so much for this lovely video. I'm heading to the UK next year, and sitting here listening to the Aussie birds sing this morning, I realize how much I'll miss this. I have saved it to remind me. Blessings xx
@tamsin1969 I'm glad to hear that it will be of use to you in the Old Dart! (Hey, you're not that 'famous' Tamsin, are you? The athlete, I mean.)
Beautiful soul ❤
@tamsin1969 Thank you!
Brilliant
@chrisstaylor8377 Thanks! I appreciate that.
We have a really fat willy wagtail that lives around our house. His name is terrance
@liamwaters5451 Is it fat all year round or only during the winter? If the latter, it could be its defence against the cold.
@@brianward7724 all year round, all he does is eat bugs all day and occasionally will hop around on the back table and hangout while your sitting down
Something eerie about butcher bird calls
Blackbird? Australian? Jeez mate, bit more research next time eh. Apart from that cock up, pretty good.
@Testing 386 Actually, it's not what you said. I wasn't going to include it but I read that - officially - the European Blackbird has assimilated itself into the Australian 'bird landscape' so well (e.g. not attacking native birds, etc.) that it is now regarded as an Aussie bird as well.
I’m an Australianised pom and I miss the blackbird call so much was so happy to see they are here too. Beautiful compilation thank you so much, used it this morning to try to identify an unusual call I heard earlier - am thinking it was a wattle bird.
@@rebeccaeland7069 Thanks, Rebecca! Good to know that my work has been able to help you. The Wattlebird certainly has an unusual call - and they are slightly different from one area to another, I believe.
Bonjour a tous! Super video des oiseaux jolies et tres belles! Bravo! Merci beaucoup 😊👍👍👍🐦🦜🖐️🖐️

I love butcher bird sounds, they sound so funny
Two more that I like which aren't here are the Babblers and Finches.
@Mrc172 That's because I don't have audio recordings of either of them.
Thanks enjoyed watching and listening.
I really like this video. Recently I have been playing a ukulele 'ensemble' piece called Early Morning. I have made a short video in which extracts of your bird call video is accompanied by my soundtrack. Would have any objection to my posting this in TH-cam? I reference your video in my video, of course. I can't put a link here to show you without it being publicly available by so doing.
@margaretsukuleleminutes2775 Yes, that will be okay. Just send me the link, when you've uploaded it. Btw, I'm glad you like my video; I'm amazed at the number of views it has attracted.
Thanks Brian - will do
