The "Nubber" grooms twice a day, I cannot think of another place that they do that. Rippin around, railing, and laying down arcs on groomed twice a day, that is a win in my book.
Sundown near Dubuque, IA is my favorite. Very local vibe and a decently steep headwall. Park on top next to cornfields and ski down into a valley. Very cool place. Never been to any of the bigger Midwest ski areas. Now I live in Telluride, but have fond memories of that place.
I know it's in Canada, but it's within an hour of the US border... Searchmont north of Sault St. Marie, US/Canada. 750 feet vertical, lake effect snow, plenty of off-piste terrain and gorgeous scenery. And to add to the appeal... nearby Stokely Creek X-country and the Bellevue Valley B&B, run by my dear friends Ehn and Robin, with guided back-country skiing.
You nailed it. Blackjack packs a big punch for a smaller hill. Great steeps, trees and powder. Gotta hit the other 4 4 sure. My top 5 are 1.) BOHO, 2.) Nubs, 3.) Lutsen 4.) Ripley and 5.) Schuss.
Look into whitecap. Most people from Wisconsin say granite peak is the best mountain in the state, but I think whitecap blows it out of the water. The three peaks give it a larger feel and there are so many runs that you can mix and match to create your own routes. Plus the lift that goes from one peak to another is both exhilarating and terrifying
I'm a granite guy for sure, it has the vertical but with the way the runs all turn into greens making each run last longer ontop of the quality and variety 🤌🏻 But yes Whitecap should at least be 2 imo(or 7th overall) Trollhaugen is great but "meh" at the same time.
just watched both this video and your top 5, i think i really do agree. i haven't been to many of them, but the ones i have or have heard of i totally agree. the ones i completely agree with based on my knowledge are Lutsen, mt bohemia, hylland hills and giants ridge. Have yet to go to hylland and bohemia but have heard tons of good things about them. going to bohemia in febuary :). But Lutsen and Giants Ridge i have been to many times as i live in northern mn and they are amazing. really enjoyable videos!
If you’re going to Black River Basin go all the way over to Capstan lift is where it’s at. Trust me it’s my favorite stomping ground, Oh BTW, you’ll enjoy it, as your family or group will enjoy both mountains.
@@timmiboi2745 Yeah, want to get back up there as well miss hitting the far right lift, where not to many people go and rarely no snowboarders head over there.
A little surprised but granite and welch being on this list, but this is solid! Personally I think boho could've knocked troll to #6, but troll is such a staple!
Haha oh Terry Peak! I think the problem is not many have been there to be honest. It’s kinda on an island so unless you’re heading west it’s often less traveled. It’s certainly on my list for the next couple seasons though!
Have you guys made a video of the breakdown of a snow gun? Not how it works and that stuff like they physical features like the nitty gritty stuff. Im not really sure how to explain it
We haven’t- I’d be happy to, but that’s very brand specific. They are all just a bit different in the parts they use and where they are located. Is there a brand/type of gun you’re most interested in?
@@MidwestSkiers Technoalpin in general because thats what what my home resort uses but specifically maybe a TT10 or A TR10 or a t40 but really any Technoalpin fan gun I would love to see.
As a Trollhaugn goer, I agree with the comments (I believe troll should have been first tho). But you forgot one major part, you forgot about our totally safe and fun culture of drinking and getting high on the runs
Thanks for the info! I think this was meant for our other video- if you wanted to move it there I can pin it at the top of the comments section 🙏 th-cam.com/video/up00S7h8B2k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9QQHyUsGSPoJi-Io
Nubs was included in my must-visit video ( go watch it here: th-cam.com/video/up00S7h8B2k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ueqzh5qteDbGRK81), so it wasn't in contention for this video (this is an expansion of that original video)
Ive never liked blackjack, granite is fire, troll at 1 am drunk is a must, spirit mountain for park, lutsen has always left me disappointed even while skiing there for free. Boyne is really good
I love that Welch got on the list. So much variety especially when the back bowl opens up.
They teach PMTS there and not the antiquated PSIA stuff too.
Honorable mention Nubs Nob, great family environment, lake effect snow, tree skiing, and the best snow in the Midwest
For sure! I included that in my OG must-visit so it didn't make this list.
Nubs is trash.
The "Nubber" grooms twice a day, I cannot think of another place that they do that. Rippin around, railing, and laying down arcs on groomed twice a day, that is a win in my book.
My favorite place in Michigan!
I always chuckle at best snow in the midwest…as Boyne Highlands is right across the street. 😂
Nubs is def more big money Chicago folk though.
Content is getting pumped out recently, Keep it up Matthew! Great work!
We are grinding- lots in the pipeline!
Maybe in the half pipeline???
bump for the algo. keep up the great work Matthew :D
I appreciate you! 🙏🙏🙏

Sundown is sick! I love their “barn” bar as well halfway down. Such a sweet place.
Sorry.
I Can not pick it -- they're ALL not to be missed.
(Totally agree with Troll)
Thanks for another
great one Mathew.

It does look sick! I’d love to check it out sometime- gotta check off the full Midwest first though!
White Cap in Wisconsin is a nice little resort as well. Three mountain peaks give it a “out west” feel in a much smaller package.

Nubs sucks lol
@@ShawnQueefus I'm guessing you're a B.O.Y.N.E. kinda guy who enjoys hacky sack filler for snow.
Whitecap Mountain deserves to be on this list. It is by far the most fun resort in Wisconsin.
Giants Ridge! Seriously an amazing place.

FINALLY SNOWRIVER ❄️❄️ going there in a week

@ I love black River. Except we cancelled our trip cause it’s supposed to rain and neither hill has everything open yet

I haven’t been up there since the new investor took over, last time I was there we stayed at the maple house close to the bunny hill.
@@M4753m usually we go every year but the weather was bad last year so I haven’t been either. It looks really nice though

got to ride giants ridge last year on way back from lutsen, its a great riding hill.
Great videos! we need a Lutsen or Granite Peak full-walkthrough!
Totally!! just gotta wait until they get 100% open :)
No love for Terry Peak? I know most people don't consider it Midwest, but maybe it's the western edge of the Midwest. Love the videos!!

To explain it more what i want to see is if i was a new snowmaker on the job how would i move and connect and startup a snow gun
you should check out detroit mountain at some point
I’ve been! Cool little zone for sure!

Caberfae all the way. On the way to Boyne and Nub's from the south.
Ah! Cab is so great! Surprised it wasn’t mentioned more…. But maybe that’s a good thing 🤫
@MidwestSkiers my grandparents had a cabin there. My first run was around 1974 with leather boots and cable bindings.
Just a side boyne MTN. Is in Boyne Falls, not Boyne City and Bohemia is in Lac La Belle , not Mohawk.

How do you not include nubs nov. outside of the Bohemia. It’s the most visited family owned resort in Michigan.

Snow quality is always bad at granite peak. Literally just ice.

None, don't bother. They all suck. I live here and I don't even bother at this point
You seem like a fungi to ski with.
Booooooooooo
ANY skiing is better than no skiing.
This guys never been to boho obviously…. What a clown
