A pleasure to be part of this video. What an honor to be featured as the first person in the film but what blew my mind was the recognition at the end. Bob at Nordic
Insane production. I ski the small hills of the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, and this is probably the first time I’ve seen a professional ski documentary focus on the smaller, family run ski resorts I’m used to skiing! Proof that you don’t need big terrain or vert to still ski and have a blast👌
I love these little areas. Realistically , I will never ski any of them, but I do support the ones in my area upstate NY. We have lost so many of them its sad. The most local one to me closed in the 90's, one of the last times i skied there, i was approached by an older man and asked to take a picture of him and his friend who had been skiing there 60 years. The friendships made at local areas are still ongoing.
When I watched the first “in pursuit of soul” I really hoped TGR would make another with some Midwest ski hills let alone a whole film. Both brought tears to my eyes from memories of my dad teaching me how to ski in Wisconsin.
My deeply woven Midwest skiing roots have given me so much purpose in my life. Grew up skiing Tyrol everyday I could. Worked there from high school through college. After a decade of living out West and skiing the big corporate resorts, I long for the resorts of my childhood. The corporate ski industry has destroyed so many communities out West.
Shows me I still have a lot of hills to hit up! Grew up rope-towing pine knob, Mt Holly and Brighton in SE Mich. Great memories. This film makes me want to start a hill of dreams of my own. I'm gonna call it "two tows".
Learned to ski as a kid in Maine on a small air base. Fell in love with the sport. If you are lucky enough to live near a mountain or hill, no matter the size, enjoy it while you can. Sucks loving a sport and not having easy access to do it as an adult.
Did you enjoy In Pursuit of Soul II - Midwest Independence? Well, let's take a step behind the scenes and chat with the Director, Chris Kitchen. 🔗 th-cam.com/video/MfvB2TBwfes/w-d-xo.html
Skied and taught at the southernmost ski area in North America, Mount Lemmon, near Tucson. Less than 1K vert. I taught many people from Mexico who had never seen snow before that day and decided to learn how to ski.
I've made Caberfae my home Mtn. it's my favorite for the atmosphere and the people and have raised up all the kids on that Mtn. Also 1 of my favorite golf courses too. I come up from Toledo and instead of the long drive up to Boyne's and Nubs which i love its a quick easy drive up and back. Crystal Mtn is down the road and Schuss/Shanty creek is too. Great film thanks for making it.
Thanks for your efforts in putting out this film. I feel honored to have gotten to make a few turns with you. As always, I’m hoping to die in my ski boots (just not today).
Amazing! Definitely gave me the feels and got me ready for the season. It reminds me of our little ski scene down here in the southeast. I work at a shop in Boone NC and Beech Mountain is where I always get a pass, it has 830ft of vert with about 17 runs but what makes it feel more like one of these mountains are the people. The guy in the beginning of the video is right in a way, skiing is skiing no matter what size hill your on, it’s the same everywhere you go.
Great documentary! I fell in love with skiing at Snow Creek Ski Area in Weston Missouri, where guests come rocking Carhartt jackets and bring all of the stoke in the world. It’s the kind of place where you see families grow up, and people from all walks of life come in to join the community. Thank you for shining a light on the soul of Midwest skiing!
Sweet!! Grew up riding Midwest: Mt Holly/Brighton/Crystal. Moved out West including Big Sky & then TGR’s stomping grounds: Jackson Hole. Back in the Midwest claiming: Lutsen. Flying is good no matter where…
I learned how to Ski at Little Switzerland with my brother. That place still holds a special place in my heart. I recently taught my niece and nephew how to ski there too. Fantastic memories old and new. It may be small but I love it.
Grew up skiing Tyrol, Devil's Head and Cascade. If it wasn't for those three hills I wouldn't have traveled all over the country with my skis or moved to CO.
Great Job and Thank you giving some love to the Midwest. I'm a Timber Ridge (Gobles, MI) Rat that grow up a few hundred yards from the little resort. Over the years I skied all over NA, but it brings me the greatest joy to introduce my kids to the local hill, my hill, TR. We still look forward to our trips to Nubs or Utah, but at the end of the day TR is our babysitter, our mama, our home hill. My best memories growing up are at TR and with the friends I made. I love Caberfae and can't wait to help my 3rd grade kids skip school for a midwest powder day. Thank you for showcasing the Soul of Midwest Skiing and the hill families that it builds.
I learned to ski at Nordic in Wisconsin in the 1980's. It's cool to know that the men featured were working there at that time. I'm glad to know that these hills can still make a go of it!
I grew up skiing in Wisconsin and I was so proud to see my favorite resorts featured. I have been skiing at Tyrol Basin for over 20 years and the small town ski town vibe keeps me coming back year after year. I love skiing in Wisconsin, it's a mixed bag of people on the hill, from snowmobile suits and blaze orange hunting gear to people with the latest gear all are welcome.
love granite terrain but no longer mom and pop 190 dollars a day for father and son to ski is not Midwest love. Devils head thinks 92 dollars a day barely open most of the season not family vibe. Tyrol killing it fish dinner Friday love it. Caberfae awesome vibe i will continue to seek out the small guy who cares about its family
TGR needs to keep this little video series going with Indy pass. Grew up skiing in the Midwest so this is awesome. Anyone know Snowstar Ski park in Illinois ?
The skinner family that owns granite peak and lutsen who have now purchased indianhead and blackjack in Bessemer Mi. They chose to shut down the only only snowmobile trail connecting Notrthern Wi and the far eastern U.P. with the rest of upper peninsula. This is going to be crippling to a community, and businesses who rely on that trail for tourism. Antithesis of the family and community values portrayed in film...
They shut it down. Bummer, I heard something about that when I was at my cabin in Eagle River WI. I close my land off during the hunting season and summer, but always let snowmobile and cross country skiers in the winter
I SKI 300 VERT! 😍🥰😍
Huge thanks to Doug Fish and the Indy Pass for helping put our little hills on the map! Hope to see you out there
Yooo Caberfae is one of my locals! So stoked to see it made the film!
A pleasure to be part of this video. What an honor to be featured as the first person in the film but what blew my mind was the recognition at the end.
Bob at Nordic
Bob, you killed it in the opening scene, and you kill it at Nordic. See you out there!

which ones?
@@explorationgabe Camp Fortune, Calabogie, Edelweiss, Pakenham, Vorlage, Rigaud, Belle Neige, Okemo, Tremblant, and Whiteface! That’s every resort I’ve skied lol
@@theroadnottakentravel Nice! Grew up skiing vorlage and fortune a lot, edelweiss some, been to whiteface and calabogie a few times too.
@@explorationgabe cool! Where do u ski now?
@@theroadnottakentravel and yet you missed the best one, Mont Ste Marie

Midwest skiing is a soooooo underrated.
Midwest skier/rope tow goon until I die. And if someone tells you theres no good midwest skiing, tell them to go to Mt. Bohemia
I took my skiing buddies from Iowa to a small place in Montana to make sure they were ready for what Bohemia demands of you.
When I watched the first “in pursuit of soul” I really hoped TGR would make another with some Midwest ski hills let alone a whole film. Both brought tears to my eyes from memories of my dad teaching me how to ski in Wisconsin.
Tim Meyer and Caberfae Peaks! Grew up skiing there and then ski patrolled with Tim at WP. Great guy, great place!
I became ordained and married my friends at Little Switz. I’m so happy that it reopened, I learned to snowboard there in middle school.
Midwestern skier of 33 years here. The family resort vibe is amazing and this video captures it so well! The stoke is strong here.
Can’t wait to see a professional ski documentary on a place I’ve actually gone before!
Sitting here glassy eyed, thanks TGR and shout out to the independents. Teaching my 4 year old how to ski this winter and I couldn’t be more stoked.
I want to Ski The Midwest now!
You can, in fact I was shredding the rails last Wednesday (10/19/2022) on Wild Mountain!
Still mind blown to see you guys at the rock, super stoked to have met the crew and be part of the film!! This turned out AWESOME 🔥

Loved the film! I would've liked to see another Michigan resort thrown in there but still great. Hope you continue to make more of these!

Thank you again for the gift of recognition of the Midwest
As a California skier, this film was incredible to watch. Let the stoke never end!!

Amazing film❤….. watched #1 just before.
Great film! I hope there is more planned for the In Pursuit of Soul series. I have loved every single one of them.
I remember skiing at Little Switzerland, early 70's... Good times!

Sad to watch this because my local family run ski hill closed last year.😢
Loved it!
Great video!!! Would love to see another one with some of the other hills!!! Especially alpine valley In east Troy!!!! Pat would be a great story!!!
I was at Tyrol when this was being filmed!
Awesome film 🤙🏂
when is that kid at 17:07 getting his own spinoff series? ;)
Or the one at 8:59
They gonna call it, Lil Soul: The Next Generation

caberfae is my home mountain!
do you guys at TGR not know about Cindy Nelson?
Can someone find the song at 16:46 ? I neeed it lol
Each of these resorts could have a doc dedicated to themselves on their own
I wish they would check out Chester Bowl in Duluth.

why didnt they go to bohemia?
Where’s trollhaugen 🤒🤒🤒
If you don't ski the little guys every once in a while you'll be left with the vails of the world and we don't want that.
