Great content! This channel was badly needed for us Midwest skiers. I progressed backwards, a few years on Epic but then decided to explore all of our Midwest resorts & I go to this channel all the time for info. Great Job!
Great series of videos, Matthew. I love your enthusiasm for Midwest skiing. I would like to see you do a POV video of Chestnut Mountain in Galena, Illinois.
I love the channel. I havnt been watching for very long, only since about October, but I love the channel and love you showing off our great region. are you gonna make one of these for nordic mountain?
Nice job again! There really isn't any other place to find this level of detail about these Midwest resorts. I've been interested in this place, but haven't heard anything about it because it's not on any of the major passes.
I worked there through high school and college. I know the owners and mgmt pretty well. From my experience, I don't think they have any interest in getting that open.
My favorite spot in WI, will usually drive there from Milwaukee. The full park has been closed every time the last 2 seasons :( I do love the garbage cans at the ends of the lifts, perfect to have drink during the ride 😅
Couldn’t they take just one of those quads and high speed it. Fixed are just so painfully slow now lol. Just did a 2-day shotgun trip: 2 1/2 drive to Cascade, skied until 4, drove 1 1/2 to Granite Peak and night skied there until 9. Woke next morning, skied granite until 2:30 and drove the 4 hours home. Would you recommend doing Devils Head instead of Granite to save some driving time or keep trip the same to Granite……?
Definitely going to try to ride here this season, hey Matt when are you going to do a chestnut video?! Loved your sundown video, keep up the great work!
These videos are awesome. My wife and I just started Skiing last year and were in the southern Wisconsin area. Weve been to Little Switz, Alpine, Granite Peak, and tried Cascade after your last video. These reviews are nice because we can see what were getting into before we go up a chairlift and face certain doom. Question for you from someone that's a timid intermediate. I find the blue runs at Alpine very easy and mellow, but going to cascade the blue runs there were much steeper, and I didn't even think about trying a black diamond there. I went down the blue run B-Dub at Cascade a few times and survived, so Id say that's the level I should be practicing on to progress more. How steep are the runs at Devils Head here compared to cascade? Are the blues pretty comparable? Or is B-Dub at Cascade more similar to Cyclops at Devils Head? We're about 2 hours away so little hesitant to make the drive if this resort is more advanced focused. Thanks!
Negative. It's a tough place to have glades as the base is mostly rock, and with it being south-facing, the melt rate is SUPER fast. It's not impossible, but you'd be lucky to get a day or two of coverage a year. It's a lot of upkeep for a minimal skiing opportunity.
I've personally never been, but their uphill capacity with all their quads makes it hard to believe you would be waiting in many lines. You could always check out the WebCam this Thursday night and see for yourself. www.devilsheadresort.com/photos-pictures-video-golf-ski-resort-sauk-merrimac-wi-wisconsin/
Only time I'm gonna go this year: $18 night when there's a good thaw-freeze and Lower Cyclops becomes ice. Drives the novices away and gives a needed extra thrill.
one thing about 000 and 4 1/4, is that they never ever run those lifts. its a miracle you went on one of the few weekends they even run 000. pisses me off
Unfortunately, we don't have the capacity, and it doesn't bring in the viewership to make it feasible for the channel. If you know anyone interested in filming and editing, I'd be happy to post them.

Your a life saver! going this sunday!
Hope you had a great day out there!
Haven't been there since I was a kid. This post makes me want to go back.
That's the goal!! Always fun to make it back to these places.
Another really good review….well done Matt!

Certainly worth a visit if you've never been. Pair it up with a visit to Cascade or Tyrol, and you will have a nice Midwest weekend trip.
Do you think devils head will ever build that fabled “future lift and 5 new runs”?
20 years in the making haha
Yes, but the real question is when!
For reference, Cascade's expansion (2016) took over 25 years, as those runs were cut in the late 80s.
I worked there through high school and college. I know the owners and mgmt pretty well. From my experience, I don't think they have any interest in getting that open.
Way to break 5k subz! Awesome videos very well edited. Gets us flatlanders super stoked! YEW! \\m//

You've got such a great vibe dude.
Thumbs Up Matthew. Hope to catch you on my Circle Route of up MI, down WI

It's certainly worth a visit! I'll add Chestnut to our short list (it's actually one of the few in this area I haven't skied yet 😮)
@ right on! Let me know, I’d love to rip with you and show you around! Super fun hill with some legit terrain/vert.
My home hill! I love it there!
Great place to call home!

very pretty bunny hill split into 10 bunny hills, but you sell it well, and fun is fun - do everything fakie/switch stance if you get bored, right?
Any doable glades? Looks like the trees are ridable/skiable, should they have enough snow. They likely rope it off though, knowing the Midwest.
Always roped off, and signs saying "ski out of bounds, lose your ticket"
Between the runs, it's all too dense vegetation to do that.

I'm not sure the black runs here would even qualify as greens on the big mountains. :) Nice job on the video.
Hah ya, that's pretty much all of the Midwest. Trail ratings are always relative to that area, something good to remember as people travel around.
Please do a Welch village one
Welch is definitely on the list. It's one of my local spots :) likely sometime in February.
Is it crowded on thursday night?

How was the snow?
you have to ski uphill and XC ski back to the lift to get to the "Double Diamond". So worth it.
The black doesn't look as steep as I thought? Or is it just the camera distortion
Only time I'm gonna go this year: $18 night when there's a good thaw-freeze and Lower Cyclops becomes ice. Drives the novices away and gives a needed extra thrill.
Sharpen those edges and let em' rip!
Those do seem like some decent long runs... not many runs like that in the midwest.
Granite Peak has longer and better runs.
Forsure - again, as far as relatively consistently pitched runs, it's up there in the Midwest.
My friend destroyed his tailbone here when we were 15, he hasn't been the same since...
I don't thing I have ever seen the 000 lift to Burns open.
And as I thought. The Burns and Meadows are not open.
one thing about 000 and 4 1/4, is that they never ever run those lifts. its a miracle you went on one of the few weekends they even run 000. pisses me off
Like he caught the one day a decade they run 000.
Can you bring back Midwest mondays
Unfortunately, we don't have the capacity, and it doesn't bring in the viewership to make it feasible for the channel. If you know anyone interested in filming and editing, I'd be happy to post them.
Oh I don't its ok
Lacking side hits.
Well you have to make them. How you think they get there.
There's no side hits in Wisconsin lol
Don't bother other than going on a week night
