    I have been in the hobby for a little over 50 years.
    This video should be required for anyone getting into keeping fishy. This is a public service, and I appreciate Gabe giving it out. If someone wants a compelling reason to listen to this content, then let it be that it will SAVE YOU MONEY. It will SAVE YOU FISH. While this information is not new, it is concise and accurate. It’s not based on hearsay. Thanks for posting. WOW!

    Gabe your information is from many years of working with discus. The perfect combination of experience, and hard lessons having to deal with multiple problems and issues over the years. Every action or delay to reacting to any situation will have consequences. For you it is a automatic reflex to draw from your knowledge base. This fish is showing signs of distress. You know what the most likely root cause is and how to negate the problem before it becomes too serious. Yes your main love is discus. However your content is just as valid for most types of freshwater fish keeping. Always get the information from a person who actually knows about the subject. The horses mouth. Don’t walk around to the back of the horse. What comes from that end is not what you need.

    I've been rescuing goldfish for 6 years now but today I got one in who had been attacked by a cat and then kept in a bowl for three days and not fed by the person who found it. I added acriflavin but then got worried I'd used the wrong thing or should I have added something else alongside. Thank you so much for settling my mind! Most of the time good water quality and correct sized tanks does the job but this little guy needed something more. Again, thank you 🙏

    Gabe, I had to exit the Hobby in 2004; before then the Name “Jack Wattley” was synonymous with Discus. Anytime I opened a magazine that’s what you saw when regarding the highest quality Discus. I only owned two from JWD but just recently reconnecting with the hobby and seeing the company thrive made me so happy. The information you’re putting out is a godsend to people. Thank you for the hard work and hopefully when I can set up a new tank YOUR fish will follow soon after.

    Excellent info Gabe! Do you use all antibiotics at once or try different ones to see what works best? Also topic for video. Could you cover some of the regularly suggested meds like prazipro, wormer plus, etc? Are they any good? There are many internet doctors out here suggesting A to Z. Things like stress coat and the fixes like Pima, etc. Paraguard and lavamisole...the list goes on. So many confusing meds.

    Hi, I just purchased metronidazole from your website, I also acquired some garlic guard. Im trying to medicate my 200-Gallon fish tank. Im thinking of going the food medication route. I know you said to only add a pinch of metronidazole to the food, in this case, granules, which I will soak in garlic guard. How often should I feed the medicated food a day? Can my fish overdose? Will the treatment be the same 10 day treatment?
    Can the medication affect discus fry?

    I need a suggestion from you. I am facing a big problem. The pH of my Discus tank is increasing even though I use 100% RO water.
    Before putting water in the tank, I take an empty bucket and put an air pump in the water and leave it for about 12 hours. Only water, air pump and an empty bucket and after 12 hours I add Seachem Discus buffer. For some time the pH comes between 6-7 but then on checking it again, it automatically reaches 8. The pH does not remain stable. I have tried everything but it is not becoming stable. This happens when I add air pump to the water. Without air pump, it remains perfectly fine.

    Those should only be used after culture testing reveals susceptibility. Otherwise (and even then still) using antibiotics may improve resistances in the present bacteria. In most EU countries you can't even get those antibiotics over the counter.

    • @Andreas-gh6is
      @Andreas-gh6is ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stoneysscapes7544 Just saying. Dosing antibiotics without proper diagnosis or need is not a good idea. It's good for getting fish big enough to sell as fast and cheap as possible, economizing stock density and so on. But it does create problems for the customers, like fish that are too vulnerable to infections or even already come prepackaged with antibiotic-resistant latent infections.

    Have you ever had problems with discus whirling disease? I lost a couple fish last year, they just started spinning in circles and going crazy. I never found out what caused it. Can you make a video of the disease if you have any experience with this?

    • @JackWattleyDiscus
      @JackWattleyDiscus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Whirling is caused by two things. 1 is feeding live tubifex worms. This will give the discus a brain bacteria that causes this. The second and most common is electricity. Usually a pump or a heater which is shorting out and electrocuting them. Usually it's the biggest with most mass who is affected. If the problem cannot be found a aquarium grounding rod is recommended.

    • @josuelandero9346
      @josuelandero9346 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jack Wattley Discus Thanks I'll look into the electricity, and I will get a ground rod if necessary. Does Metronidazole kill the brain bacteria, or how do I treat if it ever happens again? Thanks for the reply. I also left another comment. Hopefully, you will see it and also reply.
