So awesome to hear and see passion for this hobby mixed with competence and experience, what a huge asset you are sir to this hobby. Thank you very very much.
Hopefully, the storms hold off enough so you can get my shipment out to me by tomorrow. I'm super pumped and have probably watched hours of your videos this morning while I prepared for my own unboxing. I've been waiting for this discus re-entry for several years. The suspense is killing me.
So good to see another excellent video full of honest information gleaned from your many years of experience and most importantly your love of your beautiful discus
Gabe, I love these videos! So glad you were able to keep the business running. I got started in the mid 90's and at a very young age had the pleasure of talking to Jack after talking my parents into letting me order. Best color discus I ever seen! Someday soon I hope to get back into the hobby but in the meantime, I have the benefit of using these videos to brush up my knowledge!
great and extremely easy to understand for everybody, I think even for the non-English speaking, thank you and do pls keep up the knowledge that you are sharing with the word
One breeder I bought through the mail order suggested to bump up the temp to 86/87. This gets thier metabolism going and they will then eat. Worked for me.
Gabe, love seeing all of the new content. You mentioned more questions for video ideas. The videos on how to use PP and how to use Metro are great. Would love to see videos on how and when to use the other medications you sell on the site. Acriflavin, Enrofloxin etc. Thanks and keep up the great content!
Keep up the great works lads! I recently rescued some local discus and I’ve been able to learn so much from you guys. Every single video you guys make is really well detailed!
I love your explanations. There's so much adoration for these fish, but with that comes with a level of mysticism and flood of micromanagement tips that turn hobbyists away from them. Your advice is not only applicable to Discus but with any fish; from Angels to Zebras.
The few times Iv talked to gabe on the phone he is the best customer service person iv talked to .. the video on here have showed me a ton… You should do a facts and myth about keeping discus a lot of ppl are afraid of keeping discus cause there is a lot of untruthful myths
Hey Gabe , long time in the hobby .A recommendation video would be good 1."tank mates for discus" 2. tank decor for discus what they like what they don't. 3. Adding new fish to a established tank the " right way" 4. Filtration, media etc.. 5. Water changes I hear a lot of people If say discus are too hard to keep.... but I keep mine with angels and balloon rams and there all a big family. Cheers brotha
Have you ever thought about a bare bottom tank for discus? I notice people really over populate discus tanks with lots of discus fishies. Makes it simple to know when to vacuum and do water changes. It also eliminates toxic leaching substrate and decorations. I would suggest just putting styrofoam insulation board or fanfold cut to size under the tank for the bottom. Not necessary for solid wood stands but can help reduce heating costs. Have A good day!
@tatertots-N-soup I have a 65 gallon bare bottoms, have some Driftwood ceramic planter pots and 7 live plants, 6 blue vail, electric blue and blue marbles angelfish ... Tank is awesome. Yes bare bottom is very easy maintaining you can always use some big smooth river rocks also 🪨 # Hobby
Great video as always gabe ..I am just setting up a 7 tank discus fish room at home .planning on having a go at breading so would love to see more about the pros and cons I shared 1 of your videos on fb a week or so ago and it gots loads of hits and comments. The all loves it .keep them coming. Thanks Glen uk
That's great advice. I wonder how many people get delivery of their new fish, find them lying down then make the situation worse by poking at them or moving them again into quarantine, adding salts, medicines etc. Those yellow discus are beautiful by the way.
Hey Gabe, What is the youngest Discus you would sell to a customer? I live in Valrico, Florida, Hillsborough County. Is it better to pick my Discus up, or to ship them to me. Two things I regret doing was going to see Mr. Jack Wattley when he was alive in New Jersey. I’m originally from NYC. The other thing is not meeting Dr. Axelrod in NYC. He lived in Manhattan. I always wanted to attend one of his seminars, but they where rarely in NYC. I’m so glad you continued Hack Wattley’s work. I’m retired now and live in Valrico, Florida. I enjoy you videos. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Gabe, excellent video on acclimating fish. When I received my fish I had never seen your method, I floated the bags and emptied each bag along with fish into a bucket and netted the fish into the tank. Suggestion, you may want to add a brief description of the method in when shipping the fish. Excellent video, keep up the good work.
Hi GB, great informative video and looking for much once. I have two questions can make a video on this?? 1. Must of the discus keepers run behind water TDS to raise fishes, is ro water must to keep discus? 2. Can u plz make a video on discus strains, becz I see people on interest call different names to different type and it's confusing. Can clarify on how find the strains and spead the awareness.
Im a newbie and just subscribed. This is the acclamation I think is right but I just saw another vdo of discus import and they just removed the water and land the fish right in. Im confused how
Hi Gabe, greetings from Colombia🇨🇴, thank you so much for the videos, can u explain us about bacterial draw and quarantine, when are those necessary and how to do it correctly?
hi i have a 110 gallon tank and i have three discus. two discus i bought at the same time and the other one i have had for two weeks. the one that i have had for two weeks was in a 20 gallon long before putting it in a community tank because i thought it was sick but it was doing great in the 20 gallon so i moved it to the 110 gallon and i got 2 more discus today and the 2 from today are swimming together but the one i got two weeks ago isnt swimming with them yet , is that normal
Do I need to quarantine and medicate the new fish in a quarantine tank before put them in the main tank? And if you do quarantine a new fish, can you share how you quarantine them, please? Thanks before
Can you help me what can i do to make the water clear , my tank 140 ltr and i use filter hang 1400ltr/hour and use 2 spong in hang tube and add 2 big sponge filter and the water still yellow, just have 12 baby discuss 4/5 cm . Waiting your answer pls
Sir, I have a question, As we saw, you just put the fish into the main tank (I am considering it the main tank, correct me if I am wrong) after acclimating them to the main tank water. My question is here. How are we being so sure that the new fishes are not sick or they are not carrying any diseases? It's possible that they might have just got affected and the symptoms have not started showing up. So, aren't we putting our old fishes into risk by doing this? Will it be better to keep them in the quarantine tank for some time? And only after we are fully sure that the new fishes are completely safe for the main tank, we can release them? I am new in Discus keeping. But had this logical question popped in my mind. Will be a great help if you share your opinion.
Thank you guys so much for starting to make more videos!!! Would love to see some videos showing the different kinds of discus & current stock video updates. Also are you going to move the store completely or will this one still be around when the other opens?
Thank you Gabe for the video. This situation with a large discus happened to me (laying on the side) and you gave me the right advise. Btw, what do you feed those yellow discus? Please let us know when your beefheart for yellow discus will be available. Thanks!
gabe what about the plop and drop? I've seen that as soon as you open the bag of a fish that was shipped the ammonia spikes up tremendously, so they suggest put them in the water as quickly as possible
Hey Gabe, great info as always! Long story boring... I bought 12 tiny discus from a sus online store for ultra cheep, they came with a lot of issues that I had to treat for and still lost several. I also bought some beef heart flakes, I like the flakes, they're nice and thick, and the fish really like it. But I'm very reluctant to use it, (I havent for months) thinking maybe it contributed to my issues. I dunno whats in it, it doesn't have a label. Whatcha think?? Is safe/not safe to use? Have you heard of beef heart flake food causing problems?
When you do your water changes, haven't you noticed that the discus love to hang out under the water stream you are putting in. Isn't that water cooler than your tank. Tell me have you killed any in that shuttle temp difference? That won't harm them if it inst exactly the same temp as the tank.
@@JackWattleyDiscus Thank you for the reply! I'm glad to have an expert's opinion. I just worry because it gets cold here and when they arrive sometimes the water is freezing. Even with a slow one hour acclimation the water doesn't even get close to being warm... Sometimes I use a heater in the acclimation bucket before transfering them over.
Thanks Gabe. Could you do a video on ph. I live in a area that the ph is 7.6 from tap. I have discus now that where local so that’s fine and dandy but if I buy from you and if you use RO or have low ph from tap. What’s your suggestions? Thanks

One of the best videos, getting me ready to order in the next few months once my new 75 gal tank is ready for arrivals. Thanks Gabe.
Thank you Gabe for all the straightfoward precious advice

More like this. Concise, articulate and relaxing. Well done.

Luv the videos!
You make a beginner feel comfortable. I’m thinking about purchasing a 125 to a 210 gal. Tank!
Interesting technique I will try it with the next fish I buy.
Great video. I liked the swimming pool eye burn ph analogy, never heard that one before. Awesome job
Simple and brilliant
Thank you for taking the time to teach us. I appreciate it immensely.

Would you recommend this method for any type of fish?
Yes I would
You can not use different colors discus fish to see the difference of the new shipments fish
No idea what you're attempting to say.
Thanks, but no response yet o my query

I've done this method and drip acclimate and the temperature never gets the same temperature as in the tank.

Subtitulado in spanish please
Ammonium converting to ammonia in the shipping bag is a killer and not addressed here.
Plop and drop is better unless you address the above.
We ship at 6.7ph so no need to worry since anything below pH 7 is ammonium
My gosh ,your process is prone to discus plague
Thanks Gabe.
