Just found your channel. Have to say how refreshing it is to find a Great Loop channel that is down to earth, not overdone, over talked, overacted and has the camera pointed at themselves the entire time, but also not too boring. Not saying all Looper TH-camrs are bad, but yours....I find the best blend of all things. A little personal, a little boat issues/fixes, a few side trips on shore, a lot of great scenery and views. Just right! Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing with us.
Backtracking on some of your earlier Great Loop videos, it's inspired me to learn more about the local geography and history of the places you guys have cruised through. The nice Fall colors are a treat. Some of the scenery brings back a few memories of the photos I got to see from when a great uncle of mine would do a lot of in-land cruises like this on his all wood cabin class Chris Craft back in the 60s. Those were photos from exotic places for a 12 or 13 YO farm kid at the time. I still have his 17' lapstrake runabout I learned to ski behind in the 60s. It's still seaworthy but in need of new varnish and paint. Appologies for rambling on.
Interesting seeing the video. I have grown up the Riverbend area. The Alton Marina you stayed at is location of the Old Clark Bridge and Railroad Bridge. In addition, if you looked over to the Missouri side of the River you would of seen one part the old Lock and Dam that was left on Smallpox Island (West Alton). There is a monument close to the old dam on the island that has a list of Civil War soldiers that died on Smallpox Island. During the Civil War, there was a prison in Alton (close to where the grain mill is now located) and the soldiers that became sick was transported over to West Alton (Smallpox Island) and 'treated' there and kept isolated from the main population.
It is such a wonderful time I have following along with you. Especially when I know these rivers so well. In your next video you will reach my most southern journey on the Ol' Miss. Maybe you will have noticed a small river on the west side called the Meramec river. live a few miles up that river. I want to thank you once again for working hard to share your adventures and to invite us all along side!! Temperatures have been hovering around 9° for the past days. Glad your way south us now.
I’m pretty sure you have 1. turn off the pump 2. Depressurise the water system. 3. Then check the pressure on the accumulator to get a correct air pressure reading.
If it happens at half tank and you have trouble shot the system, try checking the line inside the tank it may have gotten split which is why it draws air at half a tank.
at night time the spans and cables light up in different colors. usually red white and blue. But they change them for different holidays. we live 2 miles from that marina.
Great info about inner workings of accumulator - wish we’d had this info when the one on our boat went bad last summer. 😂 BTW, your videos are perfect for watching while taking an indoor walk in this frigid weather (even Bailey doesn’t want to be outdoors). Each video is about a mile worth of steps. 👍 👟 🏃♀️
Ha! I also watch TH-cam videos from my favorite channels while walking indoors in the winter! How funny! Bailey is smart! TOO COLD! Thanks for watching!
Possible that you have a crack or hole in the feed in your water tank. If it comes in from the top and not the bottom. Think hole in straw. Good luck on fixing it….no fun on being low on water.
This is my thought also. You stated the problem only occurs when the tank drops below half full. If the air leak is half way down the siphon hose then it will draw only water, but when the water level gets below the hole/crack then air will enter through the hole/crack and your problem appears.
Great suggestion. Something we are investigating. Its tricky to investigate, then get parts, then repair all while moving down the river. I try to time my repairs when docked in a town with a hardware store. But that never works out! Ha! Thank you for the great comment and thanks for watching!
That seems about right! I am baffled at why the problem seems to go away and come back. I really appreciate the input, thank you! And thanks for following along!
I've been enjoying your videos, thanks you for sharing your journey and adventure! We have the same Sea Ray 480... for the water pressure.. you may simply have an airlock/ water in the lines somewhere downstream from the pump. Try opening all the taps including on the bridge, engine room, cockpit, bow, staterooms, showers etc etc to push out the air lock.
I would suggest you start with the fittings at your holding tanks and make sure they are tight. Trace every fitting in the line between the tanks and the pump. Good luck.
Thank you! This is excellent advice. Of course none of the lines are ever easy to get to! I appreciate your comment and thank you very much for watching!
my thoughts.........If there was a leak in the accum. tank bladder then when you press the air fill nozzle water would spray out instead of air. The interesting part is that you have pressure at full tank and then at some point when the water level goes down you are sucking air. This would indicate that something at the holding tank is sealed when the water level is up and once reduced there is a whole or loose fitting somewhere at the holding tank as the water level comes down. You can spray some soap around the fittings if possible to try and see bubbles. @@cruisingandromeda
Hi, I just started to watch your channel and it looks like a well designed and entertaining channel to watch. I had a similar problem with my system. I found that the filter needed to be cleaned. Problem solved. Hopefully that helps. Safe boating in your adventure.
Need to see where water feed is, most come from bottom of tank(if you have a top feed tank with a pick up tube, you may be have a bigger problem) then where is pump in relation to water level of tank? If pump is having trouble creating vacuum, that will not be apparent as long as water level is above the pump. Once it gets below the pump won’t work well as it sucks air. Confirm no leaks with a full tank. You should carry a spare pump anyway, as they are not super reliable. See if swapping pump, solves problem. If not, you have a leak somewhere.
Thank you very much for the great suggestions! Tracing this leak is like finding a needle in a hay stack...and as you know nothing on a boat is ever easy to access! Thanks for following along and for the helpful comment. We appreciate it!
I was really hoping it was a simple fix. But it will take more time to investigate. Fingers crossed! Thank you for watching and thank you for commenting!
I see this was from one month ago and not sure if you fixed the water problem . I have called the company that sells/manufactures the pumps and they are usually pretty helpful . They once told me not to use any Teflon tape on the fittings at the pump witch I see you have . It can actually cause a problem . You can call to verify .
New pumps are working good so far, we did order replacements to keep on board if trouble persists. That is great info on the teflon tape, thank you for sharing that. We will keep an eye on them. We appreciate your help!
makes sense, on my 34 SR there is no draw tube from top , just a hook up about a 1/2 from the bottom of the tank . Good luck and share the knowledge. @@cruisingandromeda
We live in Alton and visit Grafton several times a year. Beautiful area.
We will be coming back down next Fall! :) Whoo hoo!!!

That is incredible, I am so happy to hear this! Those are really cool boats, I searched some pictures :)

Thank you for this tip Michael! So far so good on replacing the pumps, but we will remember this for the future :) Thank you for joining us :)

It was gorgeous! What a fun area to call home :)
next time you are in town you are welcome to come to the house and stay. We will make you dinner and a rest on land.
Aww, Thank you so much Lauren!

I think I would be moving south a lot faster!
YES! Our videos are about a month behind us thankfully! :) Thank you for watching! We appreciate it
I'm on a well. Think I get that when the bladder gets a tear. But get water coming out of the valve stem. Be interested to see what it was.

The draw tube in your tank has come out of its holder good luck
I really hope this is not the case...Thank you for watching and the suggestion! I do appreciate it!

Thank you so much!
Really need to invest in go pros. You can add some great content from all sides of your boat.
Thank you John! Great suggestion. Thank you for watching!
do you only have one freshwater tank?
Yes, 140 gallons(530 L). We do have a portable water maker...I will review that in an upcoming episode. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You showed us sleeping under a bridge can be a good thing! Better than living in a van down by the river!
Hahaha! Yes! it was a good night! Thank for the great comment!
