  • We share our fourth month of expenses as we circumnavigate America's Great Loop. Expenses have dropped as we spent October 2023 coming down the rivers between Chicago and Mobile.

    Thanks for this video, it prepares future looper's what to expect budget wise. Me and wife Julie trailer our 2020 Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran sailboat from Key Largo to the head waters of the Tennessee River. So we are doing just a small portion of the Great Loop. Our boat has a retractable carbon fiber mast so we were able to get under any bridges that had a clearance issue. Our boat only has a 9.9 hp Yamaha outboard on it, but it pushes it along at 7.8 mph at about 60% power. We also took full advantage of the winds when it was in our favor and put the sails up. We were able to sail the whole length of Kentucky Lake and then some. We averaged about 14.7 knots and saw 19.2 knots on several occasions. Even at those insane speeds the Corsair is very easy to sail and very stable. The Corsair trimarans are a very well thought out design, two people can live aboard them very comfortable for a week at a time. We live in the Florida Keys and the Corsair fits our lifestyle just perfectly....

      Thank you! Chris is one of the most "hands-on" engineers I know! He's never afraid to take things apart and most of the time he can put them back together! (Sandra)

    Glad to see your in the Gulf. Now just enjoy the scenery and the sea food. A pull out for the boat was good just to check things and see the effect of the bumps and bruises. The weather will be different also so I hope you like it.

      @buckpowers4837 We are enjoying being here. We are now near Orange Beach at an anchorage and have seen more dolphins. Thanks for your continued supportive comments along the way!

      Thanks for the compliment. I have a background in accounting so it's not so hard...making videos? Much harder!

    Hello from Indiana. First time viewer but enjoyed this and will definitely watch the series. My question is being Canadian did you have to get a FAA part 107 certification to allow you to use your drone video on TH-cam as we do ?

    • @gothatawaychrisandsandra
      @gothatawaychrisandsandra  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you are finding our channel useful! Our drone weighs 249 grams which falls just under the 0.55 pounds specified for regulation. We were told we were fine.

    I've been thinking about the loop but it's not a smart idea for me to consider.

    I was surprised at your eating out bill. Almost double your grocery bill. But I guess you are on holiday and want to enjoy yourselves. :)

      We do love to sample local foods. Mostly we are big coffee fans...love to sit at coffee shops and people watch/talk. In many places in the US there is so much variety. We are now in the Bahamas and most of the food here is very much the same, so we are eating in a lot more. You will see our costs invert a bit for groceries and eating out. Our next video will be an update on costs. We'll add Dec-March.

    If a person planned on anchoring out for most of the trip how difficult would it be to keep your water tank filled?

    • @gothatawaychrisandsandra
      @gothatawaychrisandsandra  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. We know, without trying to heavily conserve, that our tanks last two weeks. We know we are going to be at a marina at least once every two weeks so we don't worry. Some free docks - the free for the day docks while you explore a town - can sometimes have water. When you fuel up there's often water available. Same with pumpouts.

      Usable for what? The purpose of sharing wasn't to determine if it was more or less expensive than living on land. It was too share what it costs us. That's it!

    No I'm sure it was relentless because you won't shut up and you keep interrupting your husband I'm sure he's happy to be on land so he can run away from you

    I've been a yacht salesman for 35 years I'll keep my comments polite about what I'm seeing here but you know some boats burn $400 on one engine a day but everything is just so pretentious like I don't know what it is about your voices but everything's like a big drama seriously you've never been duckhunting I guess

      They sound like an average and typical couple in front of a camera to me. I'd wager they've been married for a long time.
