It's funny, I now live in Vietnam, have 5 bikes and none are over 155cc 😂 For the roads here, it's very rare you need any more, though I do think a 250cc would be great for touring.
I’m 67 and need to down size so I’m going to buy the 250 mutt after watching your video thanks for the run down ,I’m British living in the Algarve but the problem is that I have to buy it up in Lisbon bit of a drag for services 200 kl away! To get to the dealer, Robbie
Glad you found it useful and yes it's a fun bike, especially in the sunny Algarve! It may be worth speaking to Mutt in the UK ref servicing to see what they suggest is your nearest main dealer is that far away.
I have the sinnis retrostar which is carb'd and the sound is phenomenal, even though i have the full licence i love the 250...easy to mod, easy to work on, cheap to run, That's why I keep it...
Thanks for the great review, strongly considering getting one of these as my first bike to get around Paris (I’m hesitant between a Mutt and a Brixton at the moment)
I was really impressed with the Mutt. Interestingly I just discovered a fairly local Brixton dealer so I'm going to try and get hold of one to review in the next few weeks.
Noticed you wear riding along the Coventry Road by the Wheatsheaf near the end of the video, know that road well on my commute from Land Rover to Yardley always busy lol.Great review.
I couldn't tell you where I was apart from "near Birmingham" as I got a little lost a couple of times! Thanks for the comment and glad you liked the review :)
I've had my eye on one of these for a while now. They are my style of bike. I'm currently riding a 750 tourer. Going down the cc wouldn't really bother me as the 250 would suit my purpose. But if a mutt 400 ever came available I'd be all over that! So do I wait or still go with the 250 🤔 Thanks for showing us it does sound great 👍
Yes, there have been rumours of a 400cc for a couple of years but it has never materialised. Depending on use (i.e. no big tours) then actually the 250cc is fine imo
@@RichRides I think the 250 would be fine too. But if there was ever a 400 come out I may be thinking I wish I could have waited a bit longer. I. may pm them about it first see if anything in the pipeline
I recently test rode a 250 Mastiff, but found the gears clunky on the downshift when changing down with the clutch fully engaged. It could be my inexperience as I've only recently passed my test
I didn't have any issues with the gears no. Sometimes gear levers do need to be adjusted on any bike though depending on the size of your feet and also what boots you're using.
This is probably the first motorbike review I have seen, that was filmed by a submariner. Where is the horizon? Is that really how you ride, looking 10-15 meters ahead? It made me feel really uncomfortable watching it. I seem to be alone in this view, but it is still valid. Make another, you might get more 'likes'
@@Jim553just No worries! I've had a few techy issues before with audio etc and although not ideal, I do think it's sometimes still worth sharing anyway.
Hello, 2 things one is out of curiosity is (I know you listen to the engine and that) at what speeds are you changing up (roughly) secondly what's ur cruising speed around 50-55mph And something else ice just thought of, how does it cope with hills and winds? Many thanks. Good video btw.
Hi MIke, it was a while ago and I only had it for the day so can't remember about changing up. As you say, just from the noise etc, you know when to change gear though. Cruising speed could be much higher than that on this 250cc rather than the 125cc engine so would be happy on dual carriageways and even motorway speeds. For the same reason, it was fine with hills too as it has much more power than the 125 (21hp from memory so about double). It's still a light bike though so will be affected by side winds but the big tyres help to make it feel more planted than a lot of light bikes.
Hi, great review of the motorcycle, it starts to convince me to buy one! Do you think if I am 190 cm heigh this motorcycle would be comfortable for me??
@@adamszilagyi8293 Nice. I have a modified Honda CD250 scrambler build too. But the Mutt is great for people who don't have the time/skills/patience for a home build themselves
Hi thanks for your message,I’ll contact mutt Lisbon, but I’m wondering whether to fly to uk buy the mutt 250 run around uk to run in and have first service and ferry to northern Spain and ride down to Algarve! Could be fun! Cheap motels!! But I then have to matriculate the bike! If so can you suggest a uk dealer? Rob.
Like any small capacity bike it wouldn't be ideal for this (21bhp and a top speed of 80mph) if you needed to do any real distance. Plenty of room on the seat though so would be far better to take the scenic routes at a leisurely pace!
Hi, I rode 10k motorway miles last winter commuting on my Kawasaki KLX250. Got approx 85 mpg (with full road tyres) on a 85 mile round trip. A little engine can do more than you think. Have a large touring bike but it had more than twice the running costs overall hence being a cheap skate I used the 250cc.
@@bhaddock9277 I had a KLX250 rental bike in Crete (the one in my profile pic). Loved it for spending a whole week riding round the island :) I also rode across the length of Vietnam on a ratty old 110cc Honda Win that cost me £200 so know all about fun on a small bike! Haha!

Wouldn't have thought so, I'm about the same (maybe a touch more) and I had a (similar) 125 and it took me along bumpy country roads without too much complaining.
Gaiters are always good :) And I was sticking to the speed limits, unlike the other traffic. However, the bike is good for over 80mph (allegedly etc etc...)
I agree with what you said about the 250cc sized bikes. I am an 85kg male, and have had loads of fun and incredible riding on a 250cc Suzuki.
