      Hey Vaibhav, usually they start eating seeds from week 5 but only a small portion and take hand feed three times a day. Millet spray and sunflower seeds are the best to start with. Their seed intake increases day by day and they will start taking less hand feed. So it is important to keep millet and sunflower seeds in the incubator with some fresh water. By week 10 to 12 they should be independently eating or just take one hand feed at the end of the day. Hope this helps. All the best.

      Hello, thanks first of all. For newborn chick the incubator temperature should be kept 37°C until it become 3 week old. And then rest is in the video. Also humidity should be between 50-60%. All the best 👍

      If you are hatching eggs in an incubator then I would suggest to follow instructions from the manufacturer as it solely depend on which incubator is being used.

    Hello Sir
    Can we give hand feeding to mother cockatiel as daily, so can it feed their chicks?
    2) what food need to give for mother cockatiels after laying the eggs.
    3) which hand feeding formula is the best
    Request you to suggest me, my cockatiels layed eggs this is first time not sure how to take care of it

    • @phdahdbirds
      @phdahdbirds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Raj,
      1. hand feeding to mother is a good idea but it will not work as female cockatiel are very protective about their chicks and they will be very aggressive. Your cockatiel should be very tame to attempt this step. But I would not recommend.
      2. Make sure you provide fresh egg food during egg lying and weaning. Also plenty of supplies for calcium and mineral block.
      3. All the hand feed formulas are good but I prefer NutriBird A21 with digestive enzymes.
      Give your cockatiel plenty of privacy and only disturb them if it’s is necessary to have successful breeding.

    Hi I just acquired 2 7 week old babies. With their parents upon bringing them home the parents have stopped feeding them. How do I start the process of feeding them? How much should I feed them? Should I introduce pellets to them? They do eat some on their own. But not a lot.

    • @phdahdbirds
      @phdahdbirds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, for hand feeding, it is little tricky with 7 week old. Process is same as I explained, start with 5ml and make sure that their crop is empty before every feed. If the crop gets empty in couple of hours with 5ml then feed them but not more than 5ml for 1st day. Also do not force them to eat, let them taste it drop by drop on first day as it is not their regular food and they may take day or two to develop taste for new food. please introduce a millet from 2nd or 3rd day onwards, that way they can start eating it. All the best.

      You need to wait till his feed from his mother is fully digested. Then he will ask for more feed. Sometimes they are also afraid of surrounding and getting away from mother so they will take time to respond to feed. Patience is the key. Wait until mother feed is fully digested and crop is empty. Shall i start hand feeding cocktail chick @ 20 days for fully hand tammed? Is the chick can survive out side of nest box? If yes how can i maintain the temparature?

    • @phdahdbirds
      @phdahdbirds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, you can hand feed the bird at 20days age. If you can wait then try for 28days. Also If it is necessary then only hand feed the bird. You can still make it tame by handling it two three times a day.
      There are varies ways to maintain temperature, you can use bulb , infrared bulb or heating pad to increase temperature. If you can buy an incubator then that is Best But if not Create a small incubator using a box plastic/cardboard/wood. All the best.

      Is the feed getting digested? That should be the concern. 5 week old baby are not good for hand feeding. Ideal is 3 week. Introduce more seeds and millet, they start eating it from week 4 so your cockatiel baby should eat it as well and should consist of 50% of his food intake.

      @@rpxt To be completely honest what happened is I came across a really unfortunate situation with two cockatiels that somebody had and needed to get rid of, and the people that got them first didn’t know what to do with them so when I came across their post and saw the condition that they were in I had to contact them and work out a deal where I could get them, considering they had no parental figure and that I’ve had experience with a variety of different birds from other unfortunate situations. Unfortunately, one of them had clear neurological defects, and every reputable bird breeder and technician within the area gave me the same warning as well as guidelines to try to give them the best life while they were still here.. that baby taught me a lot, and gave me a lot of wonderful yet stressful nights of being up around the clock closely monitoring her heat and weight and everything else. Unfortunately she didn’t make it, but the other one is in the best health she’s ever been in, is totally off hand feeding now and eating a well balanced diet, and is absolutely obsessed with me lol. So yeah moral of this long paragraph is that it’s a lot of work, especially with special needs birds, but it’s extremely rewarding and as long as you can ensure what you’re doing and speak to a variety of people that are knowledgeable in the topic, can give the bird the most happy and loving time of its life.
