I'd urge anyone who hasn't seen Peter Hook and the Light to try and get to one of their gigs, absolutely brilliant, felt like a religious experience at times. Hearing Love Will Tear Us Apart sung like a football chant by thousands of people is a glorious life affirming moment!
The set they did outside on the prom on a glorious Saturday at last years rebellion festival was one which will live (hopefully!) in my memory for a long time.
Going to see them in Rochester Castle. Hope the set is long because they are opening for Soft Cell. Nothing against Soft Cell but I want more Peter Hook
Peter hook you have been such a big inspiration to me I loved you during the joy division years and the new order years I wish you and Bernard would get a long and come back reunite with New Order
I saw Peter Hook and the Light at the Commodore in Vancouver BC last year. Easily the best of the 20 odd shows I went to last year, and one of the top 5 I've ever seen. If you have the opportunity to see Peter you really should.
Went to see New Order last night. Barney happiest he's ever been. Far better presence on stage. Hooky was just a pain to work with. Now doing 2 plus hour gigs. Hardly missed Hooky being there. People like he's the only person who can play a bass guitar. Crowd loved them. Good reworking of Joy Division songs too.
Having now lived in Asia for 30 years I was out of the loop that Peter Hook has gone solo. Problem is, New Order without Peter Hook is like a whiskey soda without the whiskey. This mans ability to make a bass guitar sing is unchallenged. Sheer brilliance. Sorry to hear they have split but thrilled to have been influenced by them as a teenager.
The first gig I ever attended was NO at Queen’s University Snack Bar in Belfast in January 1986. They were fantastic - and Peter, you are still fantastic.
quite a few times when New Order released a new 12 inch in the early days i would go looking for it and i would struggle initially to find it until i realised that all I had to do was look for the sleeve that didn't have either the band name or the track name on it anywhere easily visible and that would be their new record
He looks great for his age. Peter Hook could pass as someone in his mid 50s. Steve thought Peter is Bernard’s father when he first met him. Now, Bernard looks like Peter’s grandfather.
Hooky mentions the fact that the Blue Monday sleeve lost them money - i would have thought that it was registered amongst followers as a "piece of art" that has been well revered for long past that singles loss. Its probably a contributing factor to the fact he still has a career and immense respect today.
That story isn't true (Steven Morris goes into it in his books) but as Tony Wilson once said if it's a choice between the truth and the myth, print the myth. If they actually had lost money on every sleeve, they'd have been bankrupt in 1983 rather than 2003 or whenever London records bought them
The very first Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark record album also had multiple cutouts in a diagonal formation, its a turquoise blue cover showing the orange inner sleeve. Pretty sure Peter Saville designed it. It was pretty eye catching in 1980
I wonder if he resume Monaco after he is done with the tribute joy division album shows with the light . He has even premiered a brand new tune live before the pandemic at Royal Albert hall .
@@rueben22 Ok. So ... he was with Barney in Joy Division from 1976 to 1980, and New Order from 1980 to 2007. That's 31 years in total. Even if he played with his guitarist from 2007 and on, it's only 26 years.
@@spurv No, Pottsy has been with him since Peter Hook formed the band Revenge in the hiatus after Technique. They were together in Monaco as well after Republic. So he's been friends and in bands with Pottsy for over 30 years.
Ugh -- I love Bernard when he was younger -- he's more an artist than a musician. I love Johnny -- and the man can still play. Don't know the status of Tennant tho. But back to Bernard -- feel like its a mistake. He needs to fade into the sunset gracefully before he ends of like Phil Collins.
Up to and including Technique, they were brilliant. Yes, they got older and richer and the edge went off of them but even then there were still some fantastic singles and album tracks. Happens to a lot of bands though. Output tails off. But what they did as JD and NO from 1978-1989 was just superb
@@adamwright4135lol yeah it's not exactly the best criticism of modern new order. not that i don't agree they've fallen off, at least when it comes to their studio output.

Saw PH & Light at Rebellion '22. They stole the festival, plain and simple. Have seen NO several times. Kept hoping each time for a great show. Always mediocre, unfortunately. Even put me to sleep back in the 80's and I was sober - not any substance to blame, if you don't mind the pun. Thank you Peter for your awesome skills and new inspiration. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Michael Johnson. He engineered Blue Monday and Power corruption and lies. New Order produced. It was the first LP and sessions in which they fully produced themselves.
Peter Hook and the Light were up in Edinburgh recently. £40 to see a tribute band in arguably Edinburgh's worst venue (O2 Academy) on a Thursday night. Nah mate.
Hooky is proud of what he achieved with the Light and their amazing rendition of JD and NO songs considering ever declining Bernard who barely sing in tune and is the embarrassment to their legacy. Tell Bernard to retire, Hooky Even Stephen Morris is hiding behind the drums and pretends he is not the member of the band. Peter absolutely has no reason to play with his old mates again as he is doing much better than them. Now, hoping Hooky and David Potts will write new songs. It is the missed opportunity to have two great songwriters in the band and played only old songs.

I love Peter singing Joy Division songs and Ian's lyrics/melodies.
I have seen him three times now as a solo artist as well as in 1987 as part of new order. a legend.

True legend ❤️ Peter Hook and the light are so much more than New Order are now without him
There is much much more energy to a PH and the Light concert than a New Order one!
I haven't seen Peter Hook live but have seen New order three times in the last four years. Barney is tough to watch .....

Funny how nobody ever mentions the song that he did when he was with Monaco, What Do You Want From Me? That song is like a LWTUA part 2!

No
Joy Division yes not new order though, well not for me I’d be having manic street preachers and smiths a long way ahead of them
