It was a great idea for you to take a video. My 2007 Ford Edge has done the same thing numerous times, but every time I have taken it to the dealership the staff there tell me it's one thing, charge me to fix it, then it has continued to happen. This process has been repeated at least 6-7 times and cost me a large amount of money. My car only has a little over 80,000 miles on it. After seeing this video I believe that this is a common issue with the Edge. Ford needs to address this issue in our cars so that we can have confidence in the company.

Tss/oss sensors. $90 from dealership for both sensors. Anyone can swap these with basic hand tools in a few hours. You will also need 6 qts of transmission fluid.

Thanks for the video Angel and comments. We have a 2007 Ford Edge with 120,000 km and have been experiencing transmission problems since July 2014. It has been in for repair six times and is currently still in the shop with this issue escalated to Ford Canada. The latest is that the bearings and clutch cylinder are damaged and are being replaced. Gear shifting sensor was previously replaced.
The powertrain (wrench) & service engine signals come on after experiencing loss of speed such as after a traffic light stop. We have to push down far on the gas pedal just to move and this is followed by rough shifting (makes a sudden jerk and loud thud sound). Everything goes back to normal for awhile when the vehicle is turned off; its like the car resets itself.
Agree that this is a potential safety issue as the problem can occur at anytime and we don't trust driving the vehicle very far.

9 months since my last comment. My 2008 edge has 182,000 miles on it. Transmission issue has happened 1 time since my last post. My engine blew Christmas day. Replaced it and still driving this car, I love it.

IM IN PROGRESS FOR CHANGING OUT THE SLAVE CYLINDER, CLUTCH AND SOLENOID, BUT THIS SOUNDA LIKE A
      MAJOR TRANSMISSION RECALL PROBLEM.

My 2008 Edge had a similar issue, but I did not get the wrench or speedo fail. I had hard shifting or would not shift. As every one else I get to the dealer and nothing would be found wrong. I dug into this myself and found a note about 2 sensors in the transmission, I convinced them to change both sensors and my transmission has been good now for months. As I understand 1 sensor is in part for the speedo and the 2nd is a pressure sensor for gear shifting. So have those sensors changed, insist on it, its your life and safety involved, not theirs.

Angel, Thank you for this video. This happened to my 2008 Ford Edge last night, 10/4/2015. Reading through the posts, I now have an idea what it might be. I'll have my mechanic look at the "Output Speed Sensor and the Turbine Speed Sensor, Ford part numbers 7H103 and 7M101" first. I'll post what he finds and what it cost to fix. Again, Thank you for this post. I had no idea last night what I was dealing with. Shame on Ford for not dealing with this.

+Chris Chevalier I'm sorry I mean of fixing it. This just happened to me Saturday on the way home. The airbag light came on, got the odo data error, 0 mph and the got clunking when we shifted gears. I was totally freaked out that my transmission shit itself
Thankfully I was just down the street but pissed that I had to tow the car (we couldn't push it at all).
I was wondering if you had a video of how you fixed it.
Can't find anything for the Ford Edge (video wise) of where the sensors are and how to fix.
Taking it to a shop is not feasable for me so if I (well my husband..LOL) can fix it that would be better.

You have to get both the TSS and the OSS sensors replaced. $80 worth of parts and $800 worth of labor. This is what caused me to buy a 1966 Chevy truck, rebuild everything in it, add AC, power steering and disc brakes. Now I have simple, reliable, non computerized transportation that never needs a smog check and parts are cheap and available everywhere. Plus it is worth more that I have in it. So much for progress.

    Turbine shaft speed sensor (TSS)

You have to get into the same area to replace either, so just replace both.

My 08 edge had the same issue at around 80k miles. Replaced the Output shaft speed sensor and the Turbine speed sensor. Ford part numbers 7H103 & 7M101, total for the two sensors were around 150$. Took me around a day to replace them. Car has 120k miles and haven't had the issue return since.

    • @samzaknight2631
      @samzaknight2631 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It wasn't to difficult to replace. If you go to Fordparts.com and input your car info i.e. 08 ford edge. Then on parts search enter speed sensor, you'll find trans speed sensor and auto trans speed sensor. Enlarge the picture and it will show where the two sensors are located on the trans. It's been awhile since I've replaced it but I did have to remove the air box and driver front wheel. I also replace the trans fluid since you'll loose a lot when you remove the cover facing the radiator on the trans

Same problem. 2008 Ford Edge with about 115K miles. Mine seems to be triggered by hard acceleration, so I avoid doing that. When it happens, lots of dash error lights go on and the transmission slips or is in lower gear. The speedometer becomes completely disabled. This is a safety issue and needs to be reported to NHTSB. I am going to the Ford dealer this week.

I'm glad I looked at your video because I was going to go and purchase a a Ford Edge 2007 the price was really reasonable 4200 and it was a hundred and thirty-seven thousand miles on it but I see so far to videos on TH-cam that people having booster brake problems and transmission issues and I don't want to be buying a money pit that I got to be sitting there spending so much money just to have this thing on Road bad enough I got to pay for gas and insurance for this thing I don't want to be spending excess money that I don't have so this video right here just showed me that Ford have so many issues with the edge models and I don't want to deal with that

I bought my 2007 Ford Edge SEL in 2010. After just a couple of months, my Edge started going crazy. While driving, all of my instrument panel lights came on (low tire pressure, air bag off, check engine, etc...). I could tell that the motor sounded different and when I slowed down at a stop light and tried to take off again, I had to put the gas pedal to the floor to get it to move. Once I made it up to about 35-40 mpg, I could let off the gas pedal some and it didn't seem like it was in a bind any more. But, if I lowered my speed, it would do it again. When I put it in park, it jerked really hard and made a loud boom sound. This is the funny part: I could shut it off and start it back up and it would be fine. It did this for about 3 to 4 years. About a year ago or so, just shutting it off wouldn't fix it. My husband had the idea to detach the battery cable and when we re-attached it, it was fine. So, we think it's a computer glitch but we aren't sure. It might do this once every couple of months or a couple of times a week. I want to get this fixed, but I just hate to take it in to a shop and spend $1,000 to $2,000 and it still not fix it. Does anyone have any ideas or the same situation with your Edge?

This is the same issue I am having with my 2008 Ford Edge. It has been at the dealership for 2 1/2 weeks. They are saying they are not positive what the issue is but think it is the sensors in the transmission. Now I am thinking they already know the issue just pretending not to. Very upsetting that so many people are having the same issue but Ford is not doing a recall.

my 08 edge was having the same transmission issues. I took it to the dealer and they said the transmission sensors had to be replaced. They said the clunk was an internal problem said I needed a new transmission at a cost of 6g's. I took it someplace else and got a used transmission from a 2010 edge. I'm now experiencing the same issues with the 2010 transmission. I'm taking it back to the mechanic after seeing your video and will ask him about a computer issue.

I bought an 07 sel plus i think, dvd in the back everything works climate control the works. I have replaced the torque mount it lessened the vibration a lot although it had been replaced at least once already. The guy who replaced it never put the heat shield back on so it wore out even faster. I have a small transmission leak and check the transmission fluid it was almost nothing. I added half a bottle of lucas transmission oil and added a half quart of type f transmission fluid. Vibration is almost completely gone although this is the day i did it. It still vibrates when i come to a complete stop at a stoplight. If light takes too long i can put it in neutral and vibration completely stops. We plan to add transmission fluid as needed until transmission goes out. Then replace it. The engine as usual nowadays is always good, its just other shat that doesn't last.

Once it cools off, it goes back to running ok. I had the output and input speed sensors replaced and my Edge runs fine now. The total cost was just under $700. Had it done at a reputable Aamco shop.

I took it to the dealer and told them I had a transmission problem . They called to tell me they could not get a code, they drove the car and could not get it do anything. So there was nothing they could do until they get a code. This happened at least (3) times. This car was still under warranty at that time. Now at 54,000 miles (5/2016) they finally found the problem because now the wrench light, engine light, seat belt light, tire pressure light and the speedometer is not working they finally got a code that told them it 's the transmission. It's a good thing I purchased the extended warranty in March of 2016. If this is a know problem the dealership should know this and fix the problem once the buyer has an issue. NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE - but good on the dealerships bottom line. Not fixing sensors at the beginning of the issue allows the dealership to either bill the CUSTOMER or FORD MOTOR Company the extra cost.

      Thanks Vicky.
It's good to hear some people are catching on to these scams.
Car manufacturers have learned how to profit from their mistakes by charging hundreds of percent markups for very cheap Chinese parts.
Dealers then mark them up even more and charge outlandish labor expenses or try to sell you a new piece of crap.

What was the answer of the problem it sounds like loose motor mounts to me and because of your transmission or motor is bouncing around the linkages to your shifter is coming a loose and so that's why you can't get the RPM you want connected to the brakes it seems like there's a engine or transmission is loose because of motor mounts or training mounts type nose down and readjust the linkages to your shifter and I think you would be fine

Unless it kicked your overdrive gear out, you were doing 100. My RPMs at 3,000 are at around 100 mph. You was pushing that thing. And mine sometimes will do this when I first start the vehicle up. Never while it’s been running and driving fine. Sensors are going out but I don’t quite have the knowledge to fix it successfully. I know where the sensors are at and how to replace them, but I was told it’s a tedious job and must be done correctly. My 08 is at 161k with symptoms first starting at 86k miles.

Sort of similar problem with my edge.. it shifts fine into drive. No problem their. But when shifted into reverse, it acts like it's in neutral. If you flutter the gas to about 1200 rpm then it'll slam into gear and then start making a weird whining noise. Shifts through every gear smooth except 4th, when it gets to 4th then it shakes violently until it shifts into the next gear or downshifts.

There may be something to this comment regarding corrosion and battery cables. My 07 Edge was doing the same thing. After reading this comment I overlaid jumper cables (because I had it handy) and the total crap shifting problem went away. Though the shifts were harsh and one slippy. I replaced the two trans sensors this weekend and it didn't fix it. But of course I reset the adaptions, changed the fluid, took out the solenoid and valve bodies and then put it all back together so there are too many variables. I'll report back if the new battery cables fix it. Oh and it was worse with more electrical load, so I'm liking this battery cable thing. Of course my whole harness looks pretty crusty but the battery cables are easiest.

I'd purchased a well used '05 Freestlye to lower my car notes ... but there was some kind of intermittent squealing coming from ... somewhere. I was shellshocked to hear the CVT transmission on the Freestyle can fail at any time without warning .. and parts are hard to come by as they stopped making the model. I was fortunate to get into a '14 Focus ... but Ford has this newfangled Powershift transmission in it, which is a manual gear box that's controlled by (you guessed it!) computers! I'm hoping that I'm good for at least the 30k warranty period ... but what next, Ford? What next? They SURE don't make 'em like they used to!

I have a Ford Edge, 2016, the transmission had a noise and grind and I took it to Auto Nation Ford and they had it for 5 days and called and said nothing was wrong. I said there is something wrong. I took it home and drove it for quite some time hearing the grind and occasional jerking, and on Aug.l 4, it locked up tight leaving me in an intersection of busy streets. I called AAA and they came in one and a half hours and took the car to the nearest Ford dealership to my home. It is now Sep;t. 19, I have not gotten the car back yet, all under warranty. It is my 24th Ford, Lincoln and Mercury auto in my life and I have now made up my mind it is my last. In Phoenix parts are available for a Ford Edge in no time. They say "Covid" but I am not that dumb. In Ford's defense, they are providing me with a rental car at 35. per day or more so it is up to them to string me along. Gordon Peterson

My 08 edge limited has hit 280,000 miles, and has had this clunk since it was new. but with proper fluid changes and maintenance it can last a lifetime. the gauge cluster hasn't gone yet, but that day will come.

My 08 Taurus had the same issue, it would go into failsafe mode and then after turning off the ignition and turning it back on it would clear the computer, we got rid of the car and I'm back to Chevy for the time being.

WRB It's a good choice, until a light needs replacing - which can cost $80 for any car and $300 for a Japanese... Or a smashed wheel-hub, $100 and $500 for Japanese; a few spare parts, here-and-there and you end up w/enough money for a whole spare car..;)

any car even a domestic with LED/bi-XENON lamps cost the same $200 to 300 per bulb....n for wheel hub it will out last the car most of the time except if u hit lots of potholes....domestics(3x replacement frequency vs 1x import cars)....but now import cars are made right here in the USA so the parts prices are coming to be the same as domestic brands.

My 2010 awd doesn't have this problem. Religious transmission oil changes will help.
