I'm 28 and had to delete Snapchat and Tik Tok because I was pretty obsessed with it. Gave it up in December 2021 and I'm still going strong. You gotta be careful what you give your time and attention to, especially online.

I'm in my early 30s and I've always been anti-social media. TH-cam and LinkedIn is how I do social media. If it's a "how to video" I want it short and informative, but if it's a talking point or a story I am fine with it being 5+ minutes long. I don't understand the appeal of snapchat or TikTok. I probably don't understand since I associate these platforms with idiocy.

It’s the “User” who needs to take full responsibility of what they consume in the platform and whether you let the content consume you. It really bugs me every time a person takes everything granted with the platform and lose sense of reality.

@@jroysdon I work in pediatrics and a lot of times when I tell parents that I don't think their kids should be on social media apparent looks at the kid and agrees with me to which I always think "if you agree with me then why aren't you taking them off of it?

If the parents are addicted to technology all day then naturally they will have mom guilt and hand them a tablet or turn the tv on for them all day. It stems from the parents addiction. The mom can’t be on the phone and watching tv all day and then deprive their children of not only social interaction, but now the cheap replacement of that which is those distraction devices.

First off, California would take over half of it off the top, and secondly, I’m a big supporter of freedom and the constitution. I do TH-cam full time and I myself recently just had to delete TikTok because I was so addicted. 4+ hours a day. It has so many positives and so many negatives.

I am quite proud to be able to say that I have NEVER accessed Tik Tok. I have seen enough of it on TH-cam to know there is NOTHING in it that interests me.

So my Snapchat got deleted and I decided to delete my tik tok. As a 20 year old I can say that it has been the best thing that has happened to me mentally.
It definitely affects mental and physical health. I see it every day with my nieces and even my wife has become addicted to it.
Since 2009 (when the internet started taking off) Pre-teen & teen girl self harm is up 134%
I traveled 5,000 miles to visit my gf for two weeks and she is literally in the bedroom on social media all day🤦🏾♂️
@Prey R Our marriage is actually really good but she loves TikTok and is on it a lot especially when I'm not in the room. At least when I say enough TikTok she gets off of it. :)

George really came through with this one. Perfectly spoken. I'm 21 & ALL of my friends get their news from TH-cam, TikTok, Instagram... etc. Majority of 13-25 year olds get their news from social media instead of traditional cable.
Traditional cable is trash. You have to listen to conversations and deduct from there. CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS,CNBC, and some anchors on FOX are blatantly misinformed or outright liars. Surprisingly, as snarky as he is, Tucker is on point.
NO...they get their PROPAGANDA in easily chewed nuggets. Don't call it news, it isn't facts or even a jumping off point for research. It is ALL propaganda... they just shortened the attention span so that people don't question the propaganda. Netflix is in serious hot water over the "cuties" film/show. I am 34 and the only social media I am on is TH-cam I don't have cable or satellite TV at home, I just don't need it.
TH-cam Isn’t really social media tho, it’s a video hosting platform. It’s expanded over time to support more interactions but it’s not a platform where you can look up most people you meet in passing as if everyone has an actively productive channel.

TickTock and other social media: The dumbing of America
Why are we putting in laws for parenting? It is not 100% but parents can block these apps or limit time on devices or apps for their kids.
Most parents don't care enough. The more kids are on their devices, the less parents have to worry about siblings fighting, etc

So the algorithm learns and serves what an adult is looking for with clear intention, and what child is looking for out of pure curiosity usually influenced by whatever is popularized by CT programs at school.

The same debate can be made with the internet, video games, movies etc. bottom line is parents have to change their parenting tactics. I say delay your child having a phone as long as you can. This will help but even then they can access friend’s devices and so on. The Bible says to watch as well as pray And also be vigilant .

7/8 of the parents I know parent through an iPad. It used to be an Xbox. It used to be a TV.
TikTok is fantastic. I learned so much about just about everything including mental health and physical fitness etc. I think it's like anything you get what you put into it.
Thats not a usual commercial product or social media platform. That platform is from a country where everything published is censored. People forget that when they share silly short videos and forget how sophisticated the algorithms and the scheme behind it is. Stay away from it.

Social media is not the problem its people with very young kids and babies(for God sake) who give phones and tablets to these kids to shut them up from crying or annoying them. After that they are hooked to the internet and social media at a young age.

TikTok is pure foolishness. Kids should not be watching this at all. Healthcare and certain industries will be interesting once these kids grow up. They seem to just want to entertain themselves ad others rather than contributing to their communities. No surprise that their mental health is in the state it is. Selfishness does not bring contentment. Genericity with your time and finances does.

Don’t get me wrong. I love the Ramsey show and their personalities. But saying that you found an “informative” TikTok video explaining the crisis in Ukraine in a matter of 60 seconds and the fact that it was said in a “funny” way is everything that is wrong with TikTok.

A lot of tiktok videos are all over with young women dancing with revealing dresses, sometimes without bras. These women are putting themselves and others at risk of getting assaulted. Such an irresponsible act. Tiktok must be banned.
