      @ not enough creative players in midfield. After last season we already knew we needed betrer quality on the wings and we always needed a saka back up. Jesus had a resurgance but long term isn’t good enough and havertz should be a back up striker. We loan a goalie who is bad and is also cup tied in carabao. Sterling sucks.

      So buy a 4th Rightback??? wdym?? Who would want to sit behind Odegaard in midfield. We got Odegaard, Havertz and Nwaneri as offensive midfielders. Who do Liverpool have bar Debruyne and Foden? no one has more than 2 or 3 players per position... It's also incredibly hard to find someone who is creative enough AND can do th e defensive duties Odegaard does. We are incredibly unlucky with injuries and if it wasn't for that horrendous decision by the ref, we would have won against a very strong Brighton. No team on the planet could have won that game under those circumstances 10/10 times.

    The thing is about ref decsions,its affecting us so much because we are not putting games to bed,like the Brighton penalty wouldnt have been a big deal if we scored 2-3 The other part is Liverpool last 6 pl games was 3 wins and 3 draws,i dont think we could have asked for anything better as a team chasing,yet the gap remains the same,probably thats why we wont win the league,because Pool will drop points but we cant capitalise on it

      Asking a frontline that naturally needs a bit of fresh air in this window to score 3 goals against a strong Brighton while half of our offensive players are injured/ill is quite a bit much. As any manager would have done: Put out all your 3 offensive players left and the team naturally is more defensive. With a more defensive team you don't score 4 goals. You score 1 and keep a clean sheet which got denied by anthony taylor. Sometimes luck just isn't on our side and that sometimes is 6 days a week currently...

      Arsenal had the best defence last season, city won the league. Arsenal have the best this season so far, Liverpool winning the league. Goals win games, not clean sheets. Our invincible season didn’t happen without Thierry henry, but we could have swapped a defender or two and still won. Robin van persie won the league for Man Utd when he left us, not Jonny Evan’s. It goes on and on.

  • @DoFi12
    @DoFi12 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

    I felt for Arteta after the game. The starting XI is a complete mess because of injuries, our depth was injured or ill (and got injured during the game!) so we have very little ways to change the game, and too many people were out of their natural position. It was too much in the end for me to expect a good performance, especially against a decent side. We’re at desperation stage regarding a new attacker, we had nothing in the tank second half.

    • @matthiasleiss4807
      @matthiasleiss4807 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Agreed. As much as I critizise him for some games (for example vs Fulham) (and yes every manager makes mistakes once a season), this one is not on Arteta. There are mature players that could step up like Trossard and Jesus and other than that when the referee does you dirty, you can just make the best out of your situation with all the injuries we had. The only things in our hand would be replacing trossard or Jesus for people who do the same but are 20% more effective at it.

      With all this we have the exact same points vs last season up until game week 20. What we can critique is the lack of depth in attack from the summer is showing up right now. It's funny when we had bodies, we didn't need them. Just the way it's going for us.
      Funnily Liverpool are two/three points better off, granted they played a game less.
      We just have to keep pace and if that's one nil wins so be it until we have some attackers back.

    Name another club who are targeted every season by a new PGMOL directive. Whether it’s Arteta on the sidelines, Ben White at corners, delaying the restart, etc … every season they introduce something which is specifically aimed at Arsenal without explicitly saying it. Yes, they are incompetent. You only have to watch Fulham v Ipswich to see just how bad the levels are in general. They also have gone out of their wait to impose rules on us that are solely designed to affect us and then get forgotten about in 99% of other instances. Both of these things are true.

    When you guys covered some of the strengths of Liverpool and ways we can adapt how we attack and how we defend, it all goes back to Ø imo. He doesn’t make the forward runs like McCallister and Szob, he’s poor in transition, and also is too much of a liability on defense for us to leave Saka further forward similarly to how you described Liverpool do with Salah.
    Dont think we can ever really adopt those things with him in the team, unless it’s exclusively down the LHS.

    There is a historical case against us with the PGMOL over the decades. They are ACTIVELY surpresing our progress. It's a massive problem to this club's legacy and potential. I hope a consensus in the fanbase grows in this existential matter. Teams can tackle us, aggressively but we can't tackle them.

    • @MikaelLV
      @MikaelLV 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Historical case or not. This started happening way more frequently after the Newcastle away game in the fall of 2023. Arteta said too much and the PGMOL don't tolerate anyone questioning them. They hate him and they hate us. That beef is still ongoing to the point where they are actively targeting our games and any excuse for them to help the opposition is taken immediately. Be it a second yellow, a straight red or penalties. Most of them being situations no other team in the league get penalized for.
      It's so blatant, but as usual we are being gaslit by rival fans, the media and the PGMOL. Yes, it was not a great performance against Brighton, but their violent conduct was almost ignored. Veltman should honestly have been sent off, but didn't get a yellow until the 80th minute or so. Gabriel or Calafiori doing the same thing would have seen them sent off in the first half. It feels like the Arsenal players have to execute a perfect game every time while playing on egg shells. The corruption is so frustrating.

    Only thing we can do is try to keep it at 3 points between us before going to Anfield. Then we have to win that match - that is a 6 pointer. Right now we just have to keep that gap at 9 - until end of January at least and hope Liverpool get a couple of losses at some point before we play them. I think we have to go unbeaten the rest of the year in the league - draws away are okay at certain grounds but every home match has to be won. If we don't accept this fight there is no point in playing - our players won't give in to that and Mikel certainly won't. I really hope our fans will honestly make the Emirates an absolute cauldron every single match from now on our. Lets give it our best shot lads - need Sterling, Ben white, Tomi etc to come back and give us depth whilst Saka is out and I keep saying this - but Martin Odegaard has to be the best player in the league by a distance starting this week as long as he is not feeling sick.

    I think your discussion on Arteta using metrics to analyse performance is a good one because it highlights a few things. Firstly, the games where we drop points are often the games where it’s our manager lacking creativity. In his head ‘we deserved to win based on the metrics’ is disingenuous when we use our eye test to see that we create nothing in the attacking third.
    It also plays into the methodology of ‘ we don’t play the opponent, we focus on ourselves’. Arteta has players following rigid systems that don’t adapt and evolve in real time because he has taken the creative elements out of our play. Wenger had the same philosophy of looking inwards but he also allowed players to show their strength which is why we had seasons of beautiful football. Wenger ball. Nobody is going to be describing arsenal as ‘arteta ball’ because our football doesn’t even have a distinctive trait outside of set piece proficiency.
    Final point, and sorry for the rant: if we can’t improve on martinelli in the attacking third, or Jesus in the attacking third, or having only an injured sterling on the bench (whom never played when he was fit) or an upgrade on nwaneri who should be starting for us in 2 years time when he’s had a chance to physically develop (loans didn’t hurt saliba) - then we have to question our competence in the transfer market and also Artetas competence as a manager at gauging attacking talent. We can’t have a lineup of 11 yes men who are hamstrung by Arteta’s fixation on stats.

      Whilst I fully agree with you that Arteta has worked wonders with Arsenal in terms of what he inherited to where we are now: we will soon fall into the same trap that Arsene wenger had of suggesting CL football and being ‘competitive’ (top 4 finish) is all that’s required. Not signing attacking players just cements that in my view. Speculate to accumulate.
