A video on the average amount of touchs Arsenal take in the attacking 1/3 before a goal would be interesting. It would be interesting to see the breakdown over the 5 seasons that Arteta has been our manager. Especially with all the recent discussions about Arsenal taking too many touches and being slow in the attacking 1/3.

The 09-12 Barcelona and the 17-20 Man City played the slowest tempo football (Not fast tempo hoofing the ball forward directly like Allardyce Everton or Pulis Stoke).
They probably took the most touches out of all teams in football history.

It would be interesting to see, but tedious to procure, how many of the non winning game state goals and assists led to points or if any of those goals or assists were fruitless in accumulating points. Cheers on the good analysis.

The season before Haaland joined Man City, they created 88.7 xG, scored 99 goals (scored 11 more goals than their xG). KDB was their top scorer, he scored 15 goals.
The season Haaland joined Man City, they created 78.6 xG, scored 94 goals (scored 16 more goals than their xG). Haaland was their top scorer, he scored 36 goals.
Haaland’s stats seem to look good, but he massively reduces his team’s xG. And he tries to use his great finishing to make up for it. Man City become more clinical, outperforming their xG by a larger amount, but they actually scored less in total with Haaland.
It’s like when you think there is a big discount in the supermarket, but in reality, the price is marked up by a lot before the discount is made, so you are actually paying more. You think a 90% off discount is good, but it’s really not.
Before he joins, if you look at their top scorer (15 goals), you might think that they are not clinical. If they had a clinical striker (over 30 goals), they will score a lot more. After he joins, they did become more clinical, but they score less in total.

What a lot of fans don’t understand, is that the most important thing is to maximise the TOTAL number of goals your TEAM can score, not how many goals your “number 9” can score.
A goal hanger who can score 50 goals a season is rubsh if he is the reason his team can only score 70 in total because of his poor touches, passing, dribbling.
A false 9 who can score 15 goals a season is world class if he is the reason his team can score 120 goals in total because of his great touches, passing, dribbling.
You should never judge a player just from his G/A. A Ronaldinho with zero goals would still be so much better than a Walcott with 30 goals.
You can do skill moves to dribble or tiki taka pass your way through an entire team including the keeper, and when you are 1 cm away from the goal, you pass to your league two level teammate, and your teammate pass to another league two level teammate and score. And if you do it 10 times a match, your team would score 380 goals a season because of you. You would get zero G/A. Now who is world class? You or the two 380 G/A teammates? You should never judge a player just by his stats. You have to actually watch and analyse the football.

    Are these stats real??
i did not undderstand how saka has 60% of goals and 70% of assists. He is involved in 130% of arsenals goals how is that possible??

People say we need a “clinical striker”, but our problem is chance creation (in terms of both quality and quantity), not finishing.
Against Ipswich, Everton and Fulham, we didn’t miss any chances that would have scored by a world class finisher.
Signing a goal hanger would only make things worse. We need to increase our creativity. If we sign a striker, he must be a creative striker who can improve our chance creation.
Haaland has the most big chance missed in 22/23, 23/24. And he ranked 2nd in 24/25 so far. So even the best finishers would miss chances.
There is not much a striker can do if the chances are so low in quality. Haaland will score zero if he takes 1000 shots from the half way line or from the corner flag.
We should never rely on anyone to finish just one or two low quality chances per game.
We should aim to create lots of high quality chances, so high in quality that they are almost impossible to miss. So that anyone in the team can finish those chances.
