@Ben he doesn't write anything it's all James, but he did some stuff on drums that changed the game a but he made double bass en vogue though he wasn't the first...
@Ben OK he and James have an agreement, in exchange for Lars handling the business elements, and being allowed to help arrange the riffs James writes he is an equal partner. So glad to see him include Nicholas Barker. His drumming has been such an inspiration. And especially on Dimmu Borgirs' Puritanical Eurphoric Misanthropia. Such a classic record.
Charlie doing metal and The Bronx proud. Keep doing your thing Charlie. You are very underrated, so much so that people are actually surprised you are killing it in Pantera. I'm not surprised. Charlie has always been a first class drummer.
Great choices for sure man... I love the comments about Alex VH with his new kits for every tour - so true. He was the first to have that "double - size" bass drums too... The comment about Neil Peart is so awesome as well - the "Tom Sawyer" fills are the absolute best and I can totally see Charlie and his friends at dinner at Sparks Steakhouse or something playing the fills with their silverware on the plates - so cool... Kind of weird that he didn't mention Scott Travis or Mike Portnoy - but hey, great commentary from a great drummer - thank you Charlie.
Great list of drummers. I like the inclusion of Ringo. One of his greatest strengths was that he was as steady as a metronome, no small feat. Two other rock drummers that I think would be worth including would be Ginger Baker known best from Cream and Yoshiki from X Japan. He ran a marathon on his double kicks.
Charlie, YOU got me into metal. Among the Living is what broke my cherry 🍒. Must have been around 10 years old when that album came out, & it blew my mind forever! 🤯 Thank you Charlie.
Love your observations about Ringo, you are so right on. And Rain, forget about it. From 1963 (I was 15) to 66 his drumming was on the radio 24/7. It was the most wonderful 'brainwashing' of drums and harmonies. I dreamed it at night. The thing I loved about Bonham was how perfectly he separated his right foot from his right hand. No matter if he was doing quads with his foot or counter rhythms with his right hand, the separation was perfect. The only other Rock drummer I ever heard who could equal that was Gary Driscoll, Ronnie Dio's drummer before Sabbath. The fastest foot I ever heard and saw. Separated accented 32nd notes. Nobody had more of an influence on my drumming than Gary. He could do things with one foot I couldn't do with double bass. And Keith was so syncopated in the 60s when drummers were into that syncopation. Keith, Mitch Mitchell, Ian, Clive Bunker, etc. When Jean Luc Ponty left Zappa and went solo, on every album he had a different great drummer.
Charlie is no slouch of a drummer as well. He is easily one of my favorite drummers. I had Faith in him that he would do justice for the Pantera tribute, and from what I've seen, he's doing an incredible job, he deserves a lot of credit. He is such an incredible musician.
it's fun to hear Charlie talking about others drummers, when I was younger Charlie was my favorite drummer, love the way he plays. I still love discovering new drummers because of Charlie in a way. Thanks man !!!
I'd say at least 80% of his list matches mine, though I'm surprised no mention of Lombardo. My additions would be Mitch Mitchel, Stewart Copeland, Ian Paice & Charlie himself.
I always loved Mick Tucker from Sweet. Great drummer that was able to play different styles of drums. Just listening to his drums on "Set Me Free". Classic and so underrated.
This is one of the best of these that I've seen. He's actually providing much more commentary and depth, rather than just, "I really like so and so. They're great."
My top 10. Ian Paice, Clive Burr/Nicko McBrain, Mickey Dee, Dave Lombardo, Stephen Perkins, Phil Rudd, Bill Ward, Mick Tucker, Paul Fergerson, Mike Bordin
Charlie is a great drummer. I'm glad he mentioned Ringo Star and Alex Van Halen. They inspired me also in my journey into learning to play and being creative. Thanks Charlie for your awesome musicianship and hope you continue to have a great career 👍
I 100% agree with him when talking about Bill Ward…listen to him on the early stuff. Heavy jazz…blows my mine listening to Bill. So happy to hear Ward get some love.
Great list with many unexpected but earned names. I feel Alex Van Halen is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time who was just over shadowed by his brother of course.
Only missed Mike Portnoy on this list. Totally agree on Nicolas Barker and the fire drums on espesially Dimmus Puritanical euphoric misanthropya album. My Dimmu Borgir favorite to. And happy you gave Lars some credit👍 And not forgot Burr and McBrain🤘 You rock pretty good yourself🤘
Excellent list from Charlie. Here are 11 more that are just as worthy: - Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake, Ozzy) - Deen Castronovo (Wild Dogs, Journey) - Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Riot) - Cozy Powell (Rainbow, Black Sabbath) - Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Grip Inc.) - Ian Paice (Deep Purple) - Gar Samuelson (Megadeth, Fatal Opera) - Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork, Megadeth) - Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio) - Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Testament) - Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy)
That’s a solid list Charlie! Thanks for sharing. My Top 11 favorite Hard Rock/Metal drummers are: 1. Michael Giles / Bill Bruford (King Crimson) 2. Neil Peart 3. Bill Ward 4. Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins) 5. Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy) 6. Johnny Kelly (Type O) 7. Charlie Benante (who that?) 8. Clive Burr 9. Jerry Gaskill (King’s X) 10. Sean Kinney (Alice in Chains) 11. Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction)
Charlie can’t you make yourself #1? You are one of the best drummers I have had the pleasure of listening to for over the past 30 years…. You put a lot to shame and especially now through the years on how consistent you are and perfect!!!!!!
For me Vinnie Paul is my favorite drummer ever. He not only had ability to always write the perfect drum parts for Pantera stuff, but he was a damn metronome. Always had booming drum tone and kept groove like no other.
I'm so happy that Charlie brought up Nicholas Barker. He is THE reason I fell in love with Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. That man doesn't get enough credit! Can't wait to see Charlie with PantetA WOOOOOOOOO
Charlie is definitely in my Top 5. When I first heard Anthrax’s Among The Living album, I was blown away! Still can’t play some of those speedy parts to this day.
Charley Man!!! You are also among the greats. Listen, you are accurate, fast but what I like the most about you are the surprises. You are groovy... You will play something fast but suddenly you bring in this fruit loopy shuffle that was not expected... You are truly under rated and amazing.
Charlie is a hella good drummer himself. I met him in Gatwick airport in London in 1989 & he was nice as hell. My brother was jazzed because he was very into Anthrax
I was very pleasantly surprised with the kudos to Bill Ward, Terry Bozzio and Clive Burr. The first 2 are on my favorites list, and early Maiden with Burr and Di'Anno esp. Killers is the best Maiden imho.
Ian Paice and Cozy Powell and Lee Kerslake have old school feel for miles. They have everything that Vinny Appice doesn’t (and Vinny’s drumming vocabulary works perfectly for that kind of really measured ‘marching’ metal feel of so many Dio songs, I wouldn’t want it differently with all those machine-gun snare fills and the endless Ting Ting ride cymbal 1/4 notes, it’s his very own.)
Hi Charlie, hope you read this! You are between the best that you've mention. I agree with you on every drummer you mentioned there. I'm sure we can add some other great ones too, but no need! Those are all awesome! You have contributed so much for Metal that many of us sometimes I feel you just don't get the credit you deserve. But to me, you are! You are and should be an inspiration and remembered at the TOP as an Incredible Drummer and Riff Master that helped shape and put Thrash Metal on the Map! I have met you before and hope to do it again someday because you are not only one of my top all favorites, but also an extremely humble guy that loves what you do! So cheers to you brother! See you on the next Anthrax Tour, and certainly with Pantera. Rock on!
Thank you! People shit all over Lars, but the guy is an absolute metal icon. His early stuff was so innovative and I would argue that it shaped the drum sound we hear in metal to this day in a big way. The guy inspired so many modern metal drummers. He has his live blunders, but he certainly has earned our respect in his place in metal history.
Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett are two of the greatest thrash metal musicians. They brought thrash metal to the world stage and made it a respectable genre like jazz. It's their chops that shaped thrash metal and created the blueprint from which it would be built.
Can’t wait to see him with Anthrax in January, got VIP too, and seeing him again with Pantera in 2024. Awesome to see Neil Peart here. Rush is one of my favorite bands.
Charlie himself is literally the drummer that made me want to play drums 35 years ago His playing has always amazed me and to see him doing the Pantera gigs now is mind-boggling to me he is doing so good at it Charlie definitely is one of my musical Heroes
Thank you Charlie to include Clive Burr as for me it is one of the greatest hard rock drummer. I would have add also Chris Kontos as he hit so heavy and has his own style
Most of your favourites are on my list - Charlie, Ty for helping to bring PANTERA back to us - Vinnie and Dime would be proud. No other drummer would have fit for the band or for us fans like you do. Cheers
Great picks! I'm a Finnish drummer and Neil Peart was my biggest inspiration. I'm very glad that Les Binks gets a mention as well. He's got that real fluidity and groove in his playing. Sometimes it reminds me of Neil Peart. For example, they both often use the opening and closing hi-hat (while hitting it with a stick at the same time) to accentuate their drumming. I'll just add some of my favorites to the list. They're not in any particular order: Michael Giles Phil Collins Bill Bruford Alan White Cozy Powell Bobby Rondinelli Mikkey Dee Richard Bailey Ian Paice Vinnie Appice Carmine Appice Barriemore Barlow Charlie Benante Steve "Doc" Wacholz Kirk Arrington Lee Kerslake Tommy Aldridge Scott Rockenfield Gar Samuelson Here's a few words about my history with Anthrax: I listened to all kinds of hard rock and metal as a kid in the 1980s. As the 80s progressed I gravitated towards thrash metal and Anthrax was one of the coolest bands. I listened to "Spreading the Disease" a lot. I remember hearing songs like A.I.R. and Gung-Ho for the first time and being amazed by Charlie Benante's drumming. The album also had some very melodic metal tracks like "Medusa" for example. Mimicking that insane laughter in the intro of Madhouse was also a popular thing with my friends. Some other songs I really liked was "I am the Law" from Among the Living. That song also has one of those cool Anthrax moments when they play a riff with a really fast tempo and then in a slower tempo after that. I loved it. That whole middle section (with also a great guitar solo) has some of my favorite playing and drum fills. It's so frenetic and perfect in its style. I listened to the first Anthrax albums from Fistful of Metal to Persistence of Time quite a lot but then I found the 2112 and Caress of Steel albums by Rush. I had to hear more... Listening to albums like "Hemispheres" blew my mind and I was mainly into 1970s progressive rock after that. Some lyrics spoke to me quite a bit, like "H8 Red". The last lines of the lyrics end that song perfectly. I started to pay attention to the lyrics much more and Rush was also a perfect band for that later. It was metal bands like Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Queensrÿche etc. that really made me listen. So, thanks for the inspiration.
@@mikekeeler6362 I'm glad you mentioned him. Carl Palmer is one of the best. I forgot to add quite a few great drummers. Take care and enjoy the music.
Hey Charlie! It's great to finally get to communicate w/ famous artists. I'm a 49y dude from Long Island NY, who grew up as a bassist, but later gravitated to drums. Thank you did your list, allow me to give you mine. This is in no particular order, and yes, you're on my list. These drummers are on this list not only for being my favorite but for being inspirational, making me wanna be a drummer in the first place 1) Robert Sweet-Stryper: his showmanship is 2nd to none. Before him, any double kick I heard were rare. During the song "You Know What You Do" it was the 1st timei ever heard anyone do a double kick fill in the chorus of a song. Blew my mind at the time, and it still does. 2) Mikkey Dee-King Diamond, Don Dokken, Motorhead Key songs: Black Horsemen, Invisible Guests 3) You-Anthrax; the 1st time I heard you on "Antisocial" my mind was blown, totally 4) Tommy Aldridge- Ozzy, Whitesnake, Yngwie Malmsteen, Iconic 5) Nick Menza- Megadeth 6) Cozy Powell-Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, 7) Nicole McBrain-Iron Maiden 8) Joey Scott-Lizzy Borden 9) Shawn Drover-Megadeth 10) Jimmy Dr Grasso-Megadeth, Ratt Thanks for listening P.S. Good luck on your new Panera your bro!
Nick Barker. Far play for including him. He's been in so many bands. Really love the first few Lock Up albums he's is on. Total blast central and killer snare fills
Funnily enough, and it'd be interesting to see if Charlie was aware or not, but Nick was drumming with Nuclear Assault on their last tours, that was very cool to see live
@@SimonWitt Yeah, Nick has been plenty active since Dimmu, but just not with major bands. I think Charlie is perhaps a bit out of touch with the smaller extreme metal scene.
Great list and many of them are on mine. Here are a few others that I absolutely love: * Nigel Olsson - Elton John Band. He played so many styles on "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". He was one of the very first drummers I really paid attention to at the tender age of 10! lol *Bill Ward - Black Sabbath. Man, the absolute power and taste this guy has. I would spend countless hours in a class room playing that little drum riff from the verse of "Hand of Doom" with my pencils. * Joey Kramer - Aerosmith. The first 4 Aerosmith albums are iconic moments of hard rock and Joey was a HUGE part of that. * Brian Downey - Thin Lizzy. Jesus Christ, this guy is an amazing drummer and so overlooked it's criminal. I'd give my left nut to find a drummer like him to form a band with. * D.H. Peligro - Dead Kennedys. It took me a long time to discover punk (1986) but when I did, I was blown away by this dude. Extremely tight drummer. It is a shame we lost him last year. RIP * Matt Cameron - Soundgarden. His playing on "Badmotorfinger" "Superunknown" and the severely underrated "Down on the Upside" albums is right on par with vintage metal greats of yore such as Bill Ward. * Charlie Benante - Anthrax. It's odd, but I didn't get into Anthrax fully until I got into my 50s. Charlie's playing made my jaw drop and to me, he is THE drummer of the 4 Horsemen of metal bands.
I'm a big fan of Dirk Verbeuren, now in Megadeth, but especially his work in Soilwork. Not only the speed, power, quickbess, and complexity, you would expect, but also diversity, creativity, and subtlety. He doesn't just play verse part chorus part repeat, he builds his drum parts throughout the song to fit each song and the progression of each song.
How is he cheating? He was one of the first to deploy the blast beat in SOD's Milk off their 1985 Stormtroopers debut. Also Eric Brecht (DRI/Hirax) and Mick Harris (Napalm Death) were early pioneers and further developed by Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel) into a more complex and brutal technique later deployed by all extreme metal bands.
Nice. Peart, Clive, Niko. Ringo is so underrated while Charlie Watts gets accolades -Never understood that Saw bozzio in a solo drum clinic. The guy is a computer. Cool stuff
Great choices Charlie and, yes, you are up there for me. I would add your pal Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini, Robert Sweet, Greg Bissonette and Jerry Gaskill.
Awesome Charlie! Love how you had Lars in. Like you said Lars on those first 4 albums blows my mind. The fills he plays are incredible! For over 30 years I've always admired Lars' playing. Keep Rockin' hard! Love what you're doing honoring Vinnie and Dime. They would be proud, keep Rockin' hard Charlie! 🤘🥁🤘DC
Keith Moon was the lead/soloist instrument in The Who and Entwhistle and Townsend were the rhythm section which was made them so unique. Also Moon did wierd left lead double bass drum flams on songs hugely filling out what would otherwise be a basic 1 & 3 count with a single bass drum. It's unique and I've never really heard anyone else to that except maybe Alex Van Halen sometimes?

@Ben he doesn't write anything it's all James, but he did some stuff on drums that changed the game a but he made double bass en vogue though he wasn't the first...
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle bro he is credited on every single metallica song wdym
@Ben OK he and James have an agreement, in exchange for Lars handling the business elements, and being allowed to help arrange the riffs James writes he is an equal partner. James writes the music and lyrics and Lars goes Rick Rubin and says yay or nay. Read Dave Mustaine's comments on why he won't sign off on no life til leather because he refuses to split Lars on songs he had nothing to do with..
So glad to see him include Nicholas Barker. His drumming has been such an inspiration. And especially on Dimmu Borgirs' Puritanical Eurphoric Misanthropia. Such a classic record.
His drumming in Lock Up is so tight. What a great band.
Perfect .
Ditto!
And on the cradle of filth cover of hallowed be thy name!
Fuck yeah Nick doesn't get nearly enough credit, glad to hear Charlie recognizing him.
Great inclusion with Clive Burr, Charlie.👍
Daney carey, joey jordison, vinnie paul, gene hoglan and dave lombardo!
Peter Criss
#1 COZY POWELL...I realised that all my favorite albums had Cozy Powell on the drum.
Charlie doing metal and The Bronx proud. Keep doing your thing Charlie. You are very underrated, so much so that people are actually surprised you are killing it in Pantera. I'm not surprised. Charlie has always been a first class drummer.
I ain't surprised either MOTHAFUKKAS!!! CHARLIEDONTCHEAT!!
Charlie is killing it in Pantera and I like his collaboration with dark matter coffee as well ☕️ 😊
Finally! Clive being in a list! One of my all time drummer heroes.
Charlie is kicking all kinds of ass in the Pantera tour. Thank you Charlie your a legend yourself I'm proud of you.
Agreed
Pantera is going to crush it, good decision to open for Metallica
He's not a legend
@@flameslingeralex3549 in metal circles he is...
John Tempesta is great too I last saw him when he was with Testament it was fuckn perfect.
Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, Carl Palmer, Leonard Haze, Denny Carmassi, Carmine Appice, Vinnie Appice
Lars and Ringo are song drummers. Thanks Charlie! You’re a legend yourself! ❤️
He is such an incredible musician.
he writes a lot of the anthrax music, underappreciated musician
Anthrax are overrated

You deserve to be mentioned with the best Charlie. Always been one of my favorite drummers.
74 year old Carl Palmer. That man is incredible
Great List! You would surely be on mine too. My only add is Cozy Powell
it's fun to hear Charlie talking about others drummers, when I was younger Charlie was my favorite drummer, love the way he plays.
Charlie- I love how you mentioned Les Binks !!!!! Also Clive Burr.
I always loved Mick Tucker from Sweet. Great drummer that was able to play different styles of drums. Just listening to his drums on "Set Me Free". Classic and so underrated.
Same here. Mick Tucker was a phenomenal drummer and one of my early influences
This is one of the best of these that I've seen. He's actually providing much more commentary and depth, rather than just, "I really like so and so. They're great."
Charlie, beat the beats, the beats you beat! He is and always was one of the greats! 🤘
Chaaaarrliieee...don't cheat!!!
My top 10. Ian Paice, Clive Burr/Nicko McBrain, Mickey Dee, Dave Lombardo, Stephen Perkins, Phil Rudd, Bill Ward, Mick Tucker, Paul Fergerson, Mike Bordin
What a sincere dude. And I love his picks, 1-8 is exactly what I'd pick.
Charlie is definitely on my list of favorite drummers, that's for sure. He's a hell of a guitar player also.
Charlie is and always will be my favorite drummer. It's nice to find out who he looked up to and got inspired by.
Excellent list from Charlie. Here are 11 more that are just as worthy:
- Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake, Ozzy)
- Deen Castronovo (Wild Dogs, Journey)
- Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Riot)
- Cozy Powell (Rainbow, Black Sabbath)
- Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Grip Inc.)
- Ian Paice (Deep Purple)
- Gar Samuelson (Megadeth, Fatal Opera)
- Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork, Megadeth)
- Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio)
- Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Testament)
- Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy)
Charlie is such an awesome Musician, besides great Drummer.
I would have added, Cozy Powell, Tommy Aldridge, Peter Criss, Scott Travis and Ian Paice🤘🏻
That’s a solid list Charlie! Thanks for sharing. My Top 11 favorite Hard Rock/Metal drummers are:
1. Michael Giles / Bill Bruford (King Crimson)
2. Neil Peart
3. Bill Ward
4. Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins)
5. Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy)
6. Johnny Kelly (Type O)
7. Charlie Benante (who that?)
8. Clive Burr
9. Jerry Gaskill (King’s X)
10. Sean Kinney (Alice in Chains)
11. Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction)
Charlie can’t you make yourself #1? You are one of the best drummers I have had the pleasure of listening to for over the past 30 years…. You put a lot to shame and especially now through the years on how consistent you are and perfect!!!!!!
Terry Bozzio is incredible. The Missing Persons song US Drag really is the song that made me realize just how good he is.
For me Vinnie Paul is my favorite drummer ever. He not only had ability to always write the perfect drum parts for Pantera stuff, but he was a damn metronome. Always had booming drum tone and kept groove like no other.
Bill Ward is an amazing drummer. Definitely on my fave drummer list.
Charlie deserves all the recognition and then some. His work is amazing and he can pull off so many different styles.
I’d like to add a drummer who is highly underrated. Gil Moore from Triumph. Not only was he a fantastic drummer, but he could sing and write also.
Gil was a triple threat!
Charlie will go down as one of the greats. I’m glad he’s finally getting mainstream recognition
He nailed the Neil Peart description.
What about : COZY POWELL. IAN PACE . TOMMY ALDRIGDE . LEE KERSAKE. PHIL RUDD. PHIL TAYLOR. MIKE PORTNOY etc..?
Dude, you are one of my fav drummers. I grew up on Anthrax.
Ian Paice and Bill Ward are my favorites. Some of the intros that Ian played , Pictures of Home for instance, blew me away
Thumbs up for Ian Paice!
Bill Ward is a horribly underrated drummer. Thanks for including him Charlie.
no he's not.
thats what i was gonna say lol
All solid choices from a great great drummer and its nice to see Les Binks getting props for his pioneering work.
Can’t wait to see him with Anthrax in January, got VIP too, and seeing him again with Pantera in 2024. Awesome to see Neil Peart here. Rush is one of my favorite bands.
Ummm what drummer *wouldn't* have Neil on the list??
Les binks man!!! Nice to hear a drummer mention him!
I love Charlie's drumming. I really enjoy when he's sitting in that groove pocket and keeping Anthrax songs ramming home. 🤘🤖🤘
Charlie himself is literally the drummer that made me want to play drums 35 years ago
His playing has always amazed me and to see him doing the Pantera gigs now is mind-boggling to me he is doing so good at it
Charlie definitely is one of my musical Heroes
Thank you Charlie to include Clive Burr as for me it is one of the greatest hard rock drummer.
I would have add also Chris Kontos as he hit so heavy and has his own style
Oh yeah Chris Kontos...BME is one of the best metal albums ever recorded. Also Eloy Casagrande
Most of your favourites are on my list - Charlie, Ty for helping to bring PANTERA back to us - Vinnie and Dime would be proud. No other drummer would have fit for the band or for us fans like you do. Cheers
Gavin Harrison should make any list. That man's creativity is off the charts.

Well, to each their own. I'm not a fan of prog rock except for classic stuff like Genesis and Yes.
I’m so happy that Bill ward got love, but I’m surprised than Ian Paice doesn’t seem to get mentioned often
They're not in any particular order:
Michael Giles
Phil Collins
Bill Bruford
Alan White
Cozy Powell
Bobby Rondinelli
Mikkey Dee
Richard Bailey
Ian Paice
Vinnie Appice
Carmine Appice
Barriemore Barlow
Charlie Benante
Steve "Doc" Wacholz
Kirk Arrington
Lee Kerslake
Tommy Aldridge
Scott Rockenfield
Gar Samuelson
Here's a few words about my history with Anthrax:
I listened to all kinds of hard rock and metal as a kid in the 1980s.
Underrated what happened to Carl Palmer
@@mikekeeler6362 I'm glad you mentioned him. Carl Palmer is one of the best. I forgot to add quite a few great drummers. Take care and enjoy the music.
Hey Charlie! It's great to finally get to communicate w/ famous artists. I'm a 49y dude from Long Island NY, who grew up as a bassist, but later gravitated to drums. Thank you did your list, allow me to give you mine. This is in no particular order, and yes, you're on my list. These drummers are on this list not only for being my favorite but for being inspirational, making me wanna be a drummer in the first place
1) Robert Sweet-Stryper: his showmanship is 2nd to none. Before him, any double kick I heard were rare. During the song "You Know What You Do" it was the 1st timei ever heard anyone do a double kick fill in the chorus of a song. Blew my mind at the time, and it still does.
2) Mikkey Dee-King Diamond, Don Dokken, Motorhead
Key songs: Black Horsemen, Invisible Guests
3) You-Anthrax; the 1st time I heard you on "Antisocial" my mind was blown, totally
4) Tommy Aldridge- Ozzy, Whitesnake, Yngwie Malmsteen, Iconic
5) Nick Menza- Megadeth
6) Cozy Powell-Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath,
7) Nicole McBrain-Iron Maiden
8) Joey Scott-Lizzy Borden
9) Shawn Drover-Megadeth
10) Jimmy Dr Grasso-Megadeth, Ratt
Thanks for listening
Here are a few others that I absolutely love:
* Nigel Olsson - Elton John Band. He played so many styles on "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". He was one of the very first drummers I really paid attention to at the tender age of 10! lol
*Bill Ward - Black Sabbath.
RIP
* Matt Cameron - Soundgarden.
Lombardo and Peart for me. Two of my favs. Charlies a great guy.
Ian paice cozy powell Steve Smith Danny sepherine Neil peart Tommy Aldridge
I'm a big fan of Dirk Verbeuren, now in Megadeth, but especially his work in Soilwork. Not only the speed, power, quickbess, and complexity, you would expect, but also diversity, creativity, and subtlety. He doesn't just play verse part chorus part repeat, he builds his drum parts throughout the song to fit each song and the progression of each song.
Hard to see a greatest drummer list without Charlie on it, but only because Charlie is reading them.
On the Blast Beat, Charlie don't Cheat!

I'd imagine when Nick sees this video he is going to be incredibly humbled and super stoked. Really nice to see!
