His underratedness is intentional, hes just a down to earth person who never let fame really get to his head and just enjoys making music for the masses without the massive 'fame' burdens.
He's not lying about practicing so much..I lived around the corner from him and everyday I would hear him playing for hours on end and it definitely paid off cause he's an Amazing drummer...
The Rudes and the 2002s are awesome cymbals for metal and hard rock. I'm a Remo guy but most of my snares are Evans batter and reso. Loyalty is hard to find these days and to stick with Tama and Paiste for 30+ years is commendable.
I watched Anthrax at the 'Mayhem Festival' in Cincinnati back in 2010. Many bands were there and performed but Anthrax truly were the show to see. What performers. You can tell they've been at it a long time because they were just so tight and know each other so well. Not sloppy. These guys were fantastic. Truly!
Charlie is a great player. And he always had a very punchy yet open sound. Love the fact that Charlie is a fan of Carter. I always love hearing about drummers being inspired by other drummers in other genres.
I remember when they first came out I used to see them a couple times at l'amour's in New York Brooklyn Bensonhurst they will awesome men hot MTV it was 1985 I saw them
He’s an amazing drummer to see live. I’ve seen Anthrax three times, and the third time was the first time I saw Charlie behind the kit, and I was totally blown away by his playing.
Seen him play in Birmingham UK, and he was brutal, consistent and mesmerizing to hear and watch. Caught them at least five times and never seen him mess up
Huge Tama fan here. Huge Paiste fan as well. One day I will have the ultimate metal kit with those brands. Charlie and Anthrax are legends, glad to see they are still going strong.
Two beasts talking! Love them both. Hey Charley: Thanks! Following since 1986. Still here, and drumming as well. To Nick: I am glad you exist, and you are in my top list there with Gavin Harrison, Portnoy, Peart, Colaiuta, Weckl, Carter Breauford...that ALWAYS inspire, ( never bored ) me to continue.
I saw Charlie at a slipknot show in Chicago this August and is one of the nicest guys ever! He stopped talking to his friends so that I could get a picture with him and when I told him I play the drums he patted me on the shoulder and said “keep playing” what a great night!

I’m a TAMA devotee. They make incredible drums without the insane price tag of some of the ‘premium’ brands out there. My Imperialstar was incredible and lasted me well into my intermediate/veteran playing. If you put some nice skins on that and whack an EMAD on the bass drum, it’s a hard sound to top.
Amazing kit!! Charlie is definitely one of the thrash metal drummers that influenced me as a drummer.. the among the living record is hands down one of the most iconic metal albums of all time and the drum parts are just incredible.. one of my favorites by far.. he's a little underrated imo, and he should be up there w the greatest drummers in the game.. not to mention he's a super nice dude.. very cool guy.. Great video.. I love these rig run down vids.. awesome stuff.. Thanks for sharing.. Cheers from Cincinnati Ohio USA..
I chose Yamaha, but Tama was a very close second due to Clive Burr, my first huge inspiration and the reason I became a drummer. Paiste always of course, since Zildjian didn't sound right as a metal instrument
Really cool to hear one of my favorite drummers (Charlie) talk about getting inspired to do better by listening to another amazing drummer (Carter). The first Anthrax album I heard was Among the living, and he still brings excellence!
The undisputed king of metal drumming since 1985. Arguably one of the most talented musicians in the metal & rock world. Writes most of the guitar riffs for Anthrax. Just a fucking legend 🤘
I'm a huge metal guy, but I always liked Anthrax and Charlie Benante. I also like what he said about Simon Phillip's kit... I've been a fan of him as well, and learn to decrease/remove dampening from the kit and allow them to resonate. You actually need that dynamic when "competing" with guitar and bass amps.
Yeah rudes are exactly that! I have a 10" rude splash that makes weird faces on people when I hit it. Quite the contrast to the signature crashes. Hehehe
One of my heroes honestly! Charlie for me belongs with the Peart, Aldridge, Simon Phillips, etc of the drumming world 🥁🤟🥰 His beat on Bring the Noise of doing double triplets on the feet and regular 8th note 2 n 4 on top is just 😳 and it works! 👌
Charlie is a great dude. Check out his channel on TH-cam and see how talented he really is. Drums is not his only instrument he plays guitar as well as piano and has written most of the anthrax catalog

7:29 Do you think he's talking about the Chinese stock Remo heads that come with so many kits these days? He's obviously talking about Remo, but I'm thinking it's specifically the Chinese versions and not the American versions he was getting bad batches of.
Arguably one of the most underrated drummers of all time, and what a cool dude.
Sod....he was doing blast beats way back then before anyone...Doesn't get enough credit
The best of the big 4 drummers
@Kënny Hamiltön oh yeah, a jazz drummer playin thrash! Haha yeah good shout that is. I meant from as they are now though
MC MC I’m sorry, but no-one has as much speed and feel as Dave Lombardo

It was a pleasure doing the wraps on this kit for Charlie. Turned out great, and the kit looks amazing!

Also Frank Bello
This guy is so underrated.I absolutely admire his playing &he is very down-to-earth.Very humble.Charlie your kit is beautiful!I also play Tama!
Nick and Charlie are two of the greatest and underapreciated drummers out there.
How is it he still looks like he's 28? He's still one of the greatest metal drummers ever.
when u do what u love and enjoy --it helps keep u young
He doesn’t drink
Begin a great metal drummer makes you look like you are still 28
Almost everyone in Anthrax looks young
he looks like he might have lost a bit of weight recently

One of my all time favorites. Charlie, you changed my life when I first heard Anthrax. Thank you for so many years of amazing playing!!
Favourite drummer, him and Lombardo more than inspired me to try and take the drums up
Love Charlie! His skeleton kit is legendary. Surprised he didn't mention having any bass in the in ear mix 🤔
