    Your channel has been an amazing source of information for me in learning how to look after my first leopard gecko. I've had her three weeks now and she's settling in great. I've read and watched other guides but it's particularly useful to have a UK perspective as product avaiability varies a lot and all my other sources are from the US and Canada. I've been trying Chickpea (my gecko) with as many feeders as I can - I didn't know locusts were an option as reptile shop only had huge ones, but I guess they don't start out that size... I will try her with some smaller ones. Thanks again!

      Mealworms aren’t the healthiest staple and definitely shouldn’t be the only thing you’re feeding. A varied diet is best. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.

    Hello! What substrate do you use for your mealworms?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend using soil. Or, if you want something they can eat, pollard or mill run. Oats and wheat bran contain phytic acid, which binds calcium.

    With my baby (had it a week), it (currently) loves BSFL and will aggressively eat them. It will eat mealworms fairly readily also. I bought some dubias but they are actually a little on the small side so I am trying to grow them up with some potatoes and bug-burger the couple I had provided have been eaten. It still feels its faunarium in general is a little sketchy so It will pretty much eat from its warm hide. See movement in entrance. Head darts out. feeder obtained. Back into the hide. Finish feeder. Repeat.

      Awww sounds like you've got a good selection of food there. And yeah that sounds very similar to how Maui hunted when he was in his faunarium :)

      It may be that it's not humid enough in the enclosure? You can give a lukewarm bath if it'll let you handle it. Or spray the hide with water

    • @herscheli
      @herscheli 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      dude you totally should, just do enough research before you get one, as long as your changing lightbulbs once they go out thats all good for heat, and my gecko is on a diet of only crickets, mealworms and such can make them sick if they have too many, its like equivalent to a human eating a cupcake basically, but they’re good for little treats!! and for young leopard geckos your gonna wanna feed them every single day, but once their older you should start feeding them like twice a week. i feed mine on monday and thursday :) im still a first time gecko owner and its awesome having one!!

    Okay so I know this isn’t a crested gecko video, but I was thinking about getting one and I want to know why your food can’t contain synthetic d3 if you are providing uv lighting? Will something bad happen?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Providing both artificial d3 and UVB risks overdosing them.

    Is it ok to feed them horn worms (also known as tomato worms)?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! Just make sure they’re not too big for the gecko, they grow very big very quickly. Also don’t feed wild caught hornworms, since they’re toxic after eating tomatoes.

    Nice vid. Followed you for years , but never replied. ; my gecko is fussy to say the least. I bought a load of silkworms and he wouldnt even eat 1. In the end we ended up growing them ourselves as it was fascinating to watch. So i bought butter worms and omg he loves them. I use tweezers for 6 years but he started 2 go blind i think cos he always misses. Is this normal ?? I will try what you do , put them in viv so he can attack them himself. Keep the great vids going. Peace out

      Only winged males chirp, so technically the females and immature individuals of all species are silent.

    So I have a question ( pls reply). I am getting a Leo soon, so I have been doing research. I am getting a baby. On my list of things to buy I have: soldier fly larva. horn worms, wax worms (on occasion) crickets, mealworms. How often to I feed each of these to my Leo? are there some to avoid feeding too much?
    Also tysm for making these vids, because they help me so much w/ my research.

      Give him Pangea/Repashy and keep feeding him healthy feeders. Waxworms shouldn’t be used for weight gain. Is he currently losing weight?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know any specific good breeders, but check morph market, just research the breeder before buying. Avoid BHB, underground reptiles, LLL, backwater reptiles, snakes at sunset, and cb reptiles. Aim for smaller hobbyist breeders rather than large scale breeders. You can also check Craigslist, there are many geckos that need good homes (just make sure they’re healthy).

      What’s their diet? As long as they look healthy I wouldn’t worry about them being small, every individual grows at a different pace.
