    i got a 3 box set tupperware, 30x30cm box
    i use one of them as a digging box, the other box as a waterbath/checking belly tub, and also for weighing, and when i feed i just use the plastic lid to let the insects on,
    it took mathilde a few times to get the tricky smooth surface, but she has absolutely no problems chasing bugs on the lid anymore, no impaction risks and she gets to use her brain.
    i also have different sizes and textures of rocks, she loves using them as furniture and specially around shedding time, she rubs EVERYTHING its so adorable

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mealworms aren’t the healthiest staple and definitely shouldn’t be the only thing you’re feeding. A varied diet is best. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.

    HI, just wanted to thank you for all the great videos, me and my daugther got the reptile frenzy recently after her pet hamster died of old age. So we have been doing research for the last 3 day like 5 to 6hrs a day on youtube because for us its very important to care well for our animals. We made our choice that a Leopard gecko will be our next guess in our house. Im slowly buying the supplies before we get the Gecko so we have everything we need. We have a local pet shop that specialized in reptile that open recently but I'm torn. all their animals seems healty but some of the information they gave me seems iffy. Like using calcium sand as a substrate when pretty much everybody on the internet says I shouldn't. But I'm also not to keen on getting one at the local big box petco. Whats your take on it. The small pet shop have an amazing looking tangerine baby for 120$can (like 70 pounds) does that sound fair. Anyway thx again for the great info. We subsribed of course.

      Awww, it's good you're getting all prepared beforehand. So if there's a baby thats only a few weeks old, it seems healthy (and maybe if they breed their own they can show you the parents), then I think that'll be fine, you don't have to follow their advice, certainly not about the calcium sand :)

      Make sure TH-cam isn’t your only source of info, there’s lots of misinformation on TH-cam. The care guide on the website reptifiles has good information.
      Where to buy: Avoid chain petstores. Check out reptile expos and Craigslist. Look for reputable local petstores and breeders. Check morph market, just research the breeder before buying. Avoid BHB, underground reptiles, LLL, backwater reptiles, snakes at sunset, and cb reptiles. Aim for smaller hobbyist breeders rather than large scale breeders.

I hope someone can answer my question. Otherwise i have to cancel the idea on getting a gecko..

      Leopard geckos only eat live insects. Crested geckos eat mainly Pangea/Repashy (a powdered diet), and can technically survive without insects, but they really should be given live insects 1-2 times a week to thrive.

    • @clutchcargo666
      @clutchcargo666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily. The fear is that they will eat their way out of the gecko but they are mostly chewed up/dead by the time they make it to the stomach and even if not, stomach acids do them in quickly

    How many crickets are you feeding maui per day?

  • @Ad-vw5cc
    @Ad-vw5cc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Im sorry but can i just feed my leopard gecko mealworm? Well thr thing is, cricket are quite hard to keep and they could all die all at once and dubia roaches, i just can't stand them. Mealworm is my only option but if my gecko not seem to eat them i might have to go with dubia roaches. Another question, how many time do i feed them per day?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mealworms aren’t healthy for their main diet and should make up no more than 25% of their diet. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.
      Crickets aren’t too hard to keep. Just give them a decent sized container, veggies, and egg cartons.
      Feed once daily under six months, every other day between 6-12 months, and 1-2 times a week over a year.

    • @xij3505
      @xij3505 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can understand that. I hate keeping crickets. They suck. They smell, their dirty, loud, hard to catch, and not to mention if they escape. Ugh. I fed my chameleons dubias for a couple months, but they grossed me out. They were very easy to keep and very cheap (if bought online, in stores they’re super expensive). Silkworms are another good staple food, but are pretty expensive. I’ve been considering breeding them, but otherwise I don’t think I’d buy them.
      Black soldier fly larvae are my favorite. They’re cheap, take up very little space, very nutritious, and don’t move much (which can be taken as a pro or a con). The only downside is that they turn into flys after a few weeks if you don’t keep them at 50 F. This is fine for my chameleons because chameleons love to catch flies.

    My Ozzy tries to jump for household insects that happen to land on the outside of his tank. Obviously I try to avoid it, but would it be harmful if something accidentally got in the cage? Just as an example, I was feeding him last night and a stink bug landed on the outside of the tank. It didn’t get in, but poor Ozzy bumped his nose a couple of times trying to get at it! Lol

    Can you PLEASE help me. My dad doesn’t want to spend much on my leopard geckos food and he said if it gets too expensive he’s gonna start buying dry food because he saw it in store and said “well if leopard geckos can’t eat it why is it available to buy… I said he can’t do that but he won’t listen

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tell him that there are many things sold for both pets and humans that are no good. They’re sold because people keep buying them (out of ignorance) and the company selling them keeps making money.
      Dead insects have hardly any nutritional value and most geckos refuse them. They also don’t offer any hydration or enrichment. To save money on live feeders you can start breeding your own for free food. Dubia roaches are a great option. Very nutritious and very easy to breed.
