Great video. That tip on softening up the the glazing with a bit of paint thinner is a good one. I’ve tried glazing a window before and have been frustrated by the results I’ve gotten with the glazing straight out of the can. I’ve been putting off another glazing project but now I think I might give it a shot. Thanks for the great videos.

I have glazed a lot of windows being a professional painter. You got really good results with that method. It's worth mentioning that glazing also comes rolled out in a snake. You can pinch it off the roll and place it against the mullion. It's helpful if you have dozens of windows to do. Otherwise, this is how it's done.

It's good that you showed priming after cleaning up the old compound. Using oil base primer keeps the old wood from drying out the new compound prematurely. Very well done and no shame in showing your best results!

Haven’t had to do that in a long time. Looks like you got that smoothing and cut line done pretty well!

I’ve always found I’ve gotten a good result my rolling the glaze into a long “snake” like kids do with playdoh. I push it into place and then use the same type of technique you used to smooth it out.

Great how to video, Jon. Yeah glazing is something that definitely takes practice. My first window was on the second floor and had to be done with the window in place. I only had to do one pane of glass and there was a whole lot of cussing done before I got it passable:>).

Hi, thanks for the video. I will try it someday. Btw, I saw that your voice is really similar to Sting's voice. I would like to request you to try to sing his song and say something here. I'm music creator and my ear is always waked up for detect something like this. Haha

these older double hung sash are typically 1 3/8s thin not leaving much room for insulated- you can, and I've done it but the glazing compound will be very thin- not good for longevity. better to use wooden stops in this case. also, sometimes the old school is great- you don't lose THAT much heat from them.

I loath re-glazing windows. you can spend hours and days and sometimes weeks piddling with refurbishing wooden windows. Not my favorite work for sure.

Agreed. And in an old house there seems to be one pane somewhere that needs tending to.

Completely agree. I live in a c.1780 colonial in coastal Maine. The previous owner replaced all of the windows in the original part of the house (there is also an ell that was added around 1900ish). Rather than replace them with modern windows that have the same look as traditional wooden windows, he actually hand made all of the new windows! Needless to say, they need constant repair. They're beautiful and add a lot of historic charm and accuracy, but boy do I hate glazing windows..

Nice! I'm a window and door man myself. Great Glazing job too- I would know, I worked with some top notch a+ glaziers back in the city.
I just made a couple casements- some of my finest work. Check it out if you want, i show em on my channel. Cheers!
