    My dad.
He became a dad when he didn’t have to, raised my brother, had me and then my sister and then my younger brother. He worked the same two jobs for years. 9am to the wood shop, come home at 4pm sleep until 8pm then go work at the warehouse until 3am rinse and repeat for 20 years. He worked when he hurt his hand, got glass in his eye, with a broken rib through the years and never complained. Took him for granted for so long and was so ashamed when I realized he provided for literally everything my family owned. He worked us out of poverty from a trailer to one bedroom apartments to a house, then built extra rooms, a outside deck and remodeled the floors, our kitchen and still managed to go to back to work not skipping a beat. I use to complain about working 30 hours a week but my dad took the extra shifts no matter what. All of this on top of going to college just to learn English so he can have a better job to provide for us. Did I mention he’s a immigrant from Mexico? He became a citizen too during all this. I could go on but my dad is the greatest man I know and I try everyday to be like him and my life has changed tremendously because of it. I now take the extra shifts and don’t complain. I’m actually wrapping up a 55 hour week now. If there’s overtime, I take it because I know my dad would. I learned through him a good work ethic that’s has gained me promotions, and raises, Learned to become self sufficient and made me the man I am today.
TLDR: My dad against all odds broke the cycle of poverty, and raised 4 kids while doing it.
    Edited for grammatical and clarification.

What a great story. Sounds like an amazing man. I lost my dad about 8 years ago, unfortunately we weren't very close, but still miss him a lot. Luckily I have a fantastic step dad, but it's not quite the same. Make sure you tell your dad how much you love, and respect him as much as you can, you'll definitely regret it if you don't.

Nothing wrong with hard work if it makes you happy, but u should consider doing what makes you happy rather than what your dad would have done. He did what he did because he had 4 kids that needed food and shelter, u dont have that kind of responsability.

    • @trumpetmasta92
      @trumpetmasta92 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@Mm-dn5gc If he could do it while going to two jobs and taking care of all of us kids then what’s stopping me a guy without that responsibility. It’s a lot of hours but the overtime pay is what I’m going for. There’s no reason why I can’t make more on my paycheck. That work ethic that I learned from my dad is what actually got me a promotion and a raise in my yearly salary, so I don’t mind at all. I’m extremely happy.

I once knew a kid who was one of those over-the-top class clowns. He would make the dumbest jokes and still made everyone laugh, and was generally a punster. One time we were going camping and there was a beach nearby, so we all went swimming. We were all told about the dangers of rip-currents, but I never really understood why people didn't just follow the correct survival procedures when caught in one until I found myself being caught in one, swiftly being swept away from the rest of the group. My body went into survival mode and started struggling HARD, but that's not what you're supposed to do, (you're supposed to swim to the side) but I couldn't stop, my body wouldn't let me. As I felt myself begin to get sucked down below the surface, the class clown came out of NOWHERE and hauled me away from the current, saving my life. Eternal respects man, may fate smile upon thee.
T.L.D.R, Class clown saved me from a fatal rip-current.

We used to play on a deep river as kids and float down the rapids on a giant inner tube of a tractor wheel. My sister who was 14, floating along the deepest, most peaceful part when she suddenly got sucked through the middle like an octopus. Me and everyone else froze because it was weird then my eldest brother dived in and just as we had all started to react and panic he appeared with her and dragged her to safety. I have stories about all my family like that.

Back when I was in elementary school, I struggled a lot in school. My dad would take extra time to teach me everything so I could at least be at the level of the other kids, who were way better than me. Ultimately, his help paid off, but that's a story for another time. When I was in second grade, my dad was once teaching me some math, and my mom was heating up taco shells in the toaster oven.
Suddenly, the oven caught fire. My mom panicked and my dad saw it. He dashed to the oven, grabbed it, and flung it into the yard before spraying it like crazy with a fire extinguisher. Once the fire was out, he went back to teaching me like nothing happened.

When I was about 12, my older sis and her bf (age 25ish , about 6.5ft tall and around 260lbs) loaded us all up and went to a water park for the day. On one of the slides there was a group of 4 adults and about 10 kids including a 2 yr old girl. She had her own float so the adults thought it a good idea to allow her to go down a huge slide solo. On this slide, there are a few deep pools built in to slow the floats so we don't rocket out the end of the slide. The group was ahead of us with the little girl trailing behind putting her a bit in front of us. Just as one of the adults turned to check on the girl, she disappeared into one of the pools and the woman's screams echoed through the tunnel. Sis's bf spun his float around as we swept over the pool, reached down into the water, and brought up the little girl. The last I saw as I floated past was him putting his feet out to stop his float, still holding the little girl. He waited with her up there long enough for the adults to be in full panic mode but not long enough for rescue to have arrived yet. The mom was standing there holding the girl's float and screaming her lungs out when the dude comes out at the end of the slide holding the laughing little girl. He had some words with those adults that I won't repeat here and popped the girl's float then slammed it back in mom's hands , told her "next time hold on to her like she means something to you"and we left. Dude was a fkng hero that day

The leukemia kid.... it reminds me of my aunt. She passed at 16 when my mom was 13. At that time she had done everything. She had tried prostitution, drugs, had sex, stole my grandpa's car, ran away, mouthed off to cops (my nana her mom was a constable at the time so all the cops knew her). The only time she didn't have anything to say was when she mouthed off to the wrong cop. He responded "listen here Missy if it wasn't for me flying to Manitoba and giving my blood you wouldn't be here mouthing me off right now". She had leukemia and at the time was only 1 of 2 kids in the country with that leukemia as it was typically a old person type of leukemia. When I was in 7th grade I donated my hair and shaved my head in her memory and I have done multiple cancer donations as well as art projects in her honor. I never met her but it helps my mom knowing I'm here for her

My dad one day decided to try to use a blowtorch, and thought he had it cleaned out. He had gone to the bathroom, and in that small time frame, a mud dauber wasp started to build a nest in its nozzle. This caused it to blow out the back towards the end he was holding. When he calmly came in to ask where the fire extinguisher was, my mom asked "why?" and the look on her face when he told her was amusing to me even now. I also learned how valuable it is to remain calm in bad situations from him, and to think things through more carefully in those situations too.

My friend got stung multiple times by the same wasp while at school. Instead of running away or hiding ineffectually under a coat like me, she decides to stand perfectly still for the flying menace to swoop close again presumably for another attack, and crush the thing with her fingers. She was more concerned about the "gross!" insect guts afterwards than the actual stings. I have weird friends.

He found me in the muddy water and threw from under the water onto shore with one arm. He could frame and shinngle an entire roof by himself. When was in a fight he could lift someone over his head and body slam them, he was 6 ft tall.

The first time I met my mom's best friend from high school and her family, we all went to a waterpark. At some point during the day we split up and the best friend and her husband took me to the wave pool, while my parents took the best friend's son to ride some water rides.
At any rate, we had some fun in the wave pool. I was in a tube most of that time as I couldn't (and still can't) swim. While we were getting out of the pool, I got out of the tube and then a few seconds later the biggest wave I'd seen all day knocked me into the water. After about 10 seconds of me being im the water, the husband grabbed me and lifted me out of the water. I'm still thankful to him for saving my life, even though my family had a falling out with his and he ended up ODing in 2018.
Tldr: My mom's best friend's husband saved me from drowning after only a few hours of knowing me.

So, one night, out of breath, Walter calls:"Signal 13" (officer under attack) and gives his location. We all hustle over there. When we arrive, Walter is hanging on the door of his unit, trying to catch his breath. Laid out, all over the intersection is ten gang members. We asked Walter what happened. He said that he pulled up to the stop sign at the intersection and the gang members were instantly on him. He had fought them all, never pulled his gun. Seeing that the gang members were unconscious, I asked Walter why he called a 13, instead of another code.
His nonchalant reply:"I ran out of handcuffs."

I'm not going to sit here and pretend that the baddest ass is a woman with a Harley... even a Fatboy... BUT it was a conversation with her where I remembered that with judgment and skills the bike (itself) becomes irrelevant... and that was when I bought my Suzuki 650 and went back to riding...

In elementary school one of my best friends nick named Big M (for ambiguity) who was a really big and strong kid who looked fat but was actually very strong, and muscular when he flexed had some guy trying to beef with him for some reason, but he didn't want to have beef with since he's pretty much a kind hearted gentle giant who's nice to you unless you eff with him by talking about his mom, grandmother, or swinging on him and because he knew and everyone else knew that he would win in a fight against him. But that guy didn't care so one day he decided to not only insult said friend's mom and grandmother and swing on him he hit Big M 6 times to no avail. After he realized how screwed he was since he did no damage to him Big M picks him up with one hand and says" You know I really wanna fight you, but you're having breathing problems right now." Then grabs him with the other hand while still holding him with his other hand, slams him to the ground knocking the wind out of him for a few seconds, steps over him, says let's go guys, and leaves with us following him. (sadly he's not my friend anymore now since we grew apart over the years since we didn't see each other for years after we graduated from elementary school)

My mom has a friend that is basically a modern day, non celibate Mother Teresa. She's been a foster mom for years, takes underprivileged kids under her wing, and has adopted two little girls, as well as uprooting her life to move closer to her deathly ill grown son so she could take care of him. She also found two babies she was fostering a home with a pastor she knows. She's in at least her 60's now.

Me, I stopped a boat plane alome from crashing and sinking in Alaska with elderly people aboard. I but my body between the plane and the floating dock; adrenaline kicked in and was able to stop the floating momentum of the plane. Bruised ribs.
They all thanked me and I was fired for endangering myself to save others. I was 18 at the time. They looked at me like I had superpowers and I was shocked by what the human body can do

Not me, but my boss's boss. This might not be very "badass" so to speak but I was having a very tough time in life and it helped my spiral from getting any worse. A coworker asked very loudly why I kept saying "see" and whatnot when I can't (I'm totally blind) and whether I was ever worried if I could be dating someone who looked ugly, or if I felt up people's bodies before considering having sex etc. Everyone went dead quiet but no one reprimanded him. Under normal circumstances I would have just shaken it off but I'd already been having a hard week. I packed up my things and wandered into the hallway, fully intending on having a meltdown somewhere quiet and out of the way. Boss's boss came around the corner and I quickly ducked out of the way, knowing he'd probably see that I was fighting back tears and really not wanting to have that conversation right then. He quietly tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was okay. I said that it was stupid but someone had just said something that was really upsetting and that normally I wouldn't have been bothered but that today was just not a good day. He asked me what it was. As soon as I got to the part about feeling up people he cut me off and told me I could go to the execs floor since no one was up there, and finish my work there. Then he stormed past and slammed the door open. This guy is 6 foot something and broad, so you can imagine it when I say he literally slammed it open with his full weight. All I heard was him saying in a low, furious voice something to the effect of "If anybody else ever says anything that stupid to my intern ever again" before I bolted. The next day, a nicer coworker pulled me aside and told me that he looked ready to murder everyone in that room and the idiot coworker was gone. I eventually apologized profusely because I hadn't intended on him doing that, but he just said that he held his team to a higher standard than what they'd displayed and to not worry about it. I had already respected him, but it grew 10x after that. It's very boring compared to these other stories but there it is. Sorry for rambling to anyone who reads this.

well mine has got to be my dad. now this was when racism was still a thing, a big thing. i was with my sister and we’d play in a playground all day with our friend and always get into trouble, you know, peeping into our neighbors house, sneaking out of the house, rolling down tires in the street, the usual. he was a lawyer, but he was defending a black man. he knew he’d lose but he tried his best everyday, day and night, and sometimes wouldn’t even come back before midnight, and yet he still managed to have time to love us. i would always wonder where he was and it wasn’t til i grew up when i finally understood. to this day i still look up to him, because even when he knew he would lose, he persisted. he didn’t care about if he won the case or not, he just wanted the truth out.

When we were 13 we were hanging out at the tennis courts one of the girls was kinda sitting on the net. While we were all talking. The 20 year old grounds keeper called out “hey get off the net Slu7. She ignored him, he came over said it again and pushed her. 13 year old mate punched him in the face repeatedly for the next 40 minutes while 3/4 of ten school watched. My guy flogged a grounds keeper for being a violent misogynistic tool. Then copped the 3 week suspension. His dad took him on holidays. Figured if his kid has those kids do of principals he deserves credit not punishment.

When I was in daycare I wasn’t a very strong swimmer. I must have been 7 years old or something. We went to a lake a few times a year and I had just learned how to swim a week prior. I went as far I could go and then hit the drop off and struggled to stay above water. It felt like an hour of attempting to scream for help but every time I kicked up from the bottom I would catapult myself further off the deep end. A kid whom I didn’t particularly like at the time immediately noticed and swam to me and saved my life. The adults didn’t have a clue what happened and because they didn’t have a hands on license they weren’t allowed to save me. I was his best friend after that until he almost drowned himself and i saved him. Then I told him we were even and we had an agreement that if any of us got bullied that the other would defend the other. I remember him saying I was stronger than him which boosted my ego but I assured him he was stronger than me. But an 8 year old recognizing the signs of a drowning person when the adults didn’t is pretty bad a to me. Sam Addams you are still a bad but and I’ll never forget you.

My boyfriend and I jump into action while everyone else sits around like the idiots they were. I call 911 and my boyfriend picks up this 6'3 grown adult male and carries him up the beach like a little baby. The ambulance comes and our friend was fine. Ah, I got one. Not really badass, but I was in my mos dorm while in the army, and there's three of us watching tv in the common area. The unspoken rule was that who ever was there first has dins until they are done. This guy walks in from the hall to the tv and starts changing the channel. The guy that had dins said 'dude, we were all watching that?' we weren't but we knew the rules. The guy that changed the channel turned his head to say "shut yo bitchass mouth." It was a little surreal until the original tv watcher rushed over and landed a perfect field goal kick to the other guys ribs with a sickening sound of forced air escaping his lungs. He laid on the ground for a full 3 minutes with the other guy standing over him before he is able to pick himself up and walk away.
Like I said not rest badass, but the other guy was begging for it, and everyone in the room knew it.

Definitely not as cool as everyone else’s things, but when I was a kid, we did volunteer work for a local farm. Well, some other kid was being completely disgusting and he wouldn’t work while telling everyone else they were stupid. He got on my little brother, and I internally lost it. I told my little bro to finish what he was doing, than as soon as he was out of sight, I told the guy to shut up or else. I’m the quiet kid. So he assumes he can just walk all over me. He says “or what?” My reply is a punch in the nose. He never talked bad to anyone at work again.

those are examples that superhumans exist... my dad ranks up there. this doesn't really don't like a superhuman example, but i was 12 and my family and i were walking to CVS one night after church, so my mom was dressed nice and holding her purse. she was walking ahead while i was with my dad. my dads walks with a relaxed gait, but all of a sudden he bolts away, and before i know it he's chasing some guy who stole my moms purse. he was about to catch up to him when my mom yelled at him to stop, so he stopped. that idiot thief stopped to look back, and then ran off. my dad basically sprinted like the roadrunner, superhuman fast with this intense, focused look on his face that was scary if it was directed at you.

No seriously imagine yourself as the police portal. You’re just sitting there in your police car and it’s a normal quiet day. Giving out a few tickets and pulling people over for reckless driving. All of the sudden someone speeds down then road. What do you do? You chase after them of course. That’s when the driver called you forward. You drive parallel and you look through the front window. What do you see??? A shirtless driver that is covered in blood. You look over to see a panicked and worried woman. You look to the back seats you see a kid in pain and the other two crying out of fear. Like- what are you supposed to think-??? Lol imagine you get called to your boss’s office after patrol and he’s just pissed off that you let that reckless driver go. Honestly in your pov of what happened you rather your boss yell at you then pull that man over.
