whiteboard hahaha 💕 I remember for my first corset I asked my dad to cut a PVC board in strips because I had no idea metal boning existed
My first sorta corset was more of an underbust belt, also made out of old jeans, but it didn't even have boning (so yeah, not really a corset). My first real (and so far only) one where I actually put in some sort of effort after having watched a couple of videos on the topic, was made from an old, heavy beige curtain with a beautiful relief texture. I sorta wish I didn't use that fabric for my first attempt though, lol. I don't even know what I used for boning, because I simply raided the garage workshop and conveniently found some kind of flat, stiff, 1cm wide plastind bamd. didn't fit well at all though and was pretty uncomfortable, BUT at least it looked cool.
I'm currently working on my first corset, an underbust (I'm a man, so no boob support needed x) ) and I've already had *so much* stuff gone wrong, but it may just work x) (oh, and sorry for the lenghty comment, went overboard) 1) The mockup: I'm trash at sewing and the mockup is a hot mess of me understanding the thousand of things I underestimated: far too large panels (you could put a bear in the corset when it was so closed it was eyelet-to-eyelet), too few eyelets, inappropriate metal eyelets that just had a pair disconnecting each wear (I ended up doing sewn eyelets on the actual stuff), too long under the arms... And the worst boning channels I could ever sew. 2) The fabric: I had the great idea to do an alternating pattern with a panel out of two in light blue and the others in a pattern of white and black triangles, inversed on the other side (so front would be left blue, right triangles, second panel left triangles, right blue, and so on...), so I didn't put attention on the fabric, that are of two different qualities... which will bite me in the butt later... Also, just in case, a cream linen lining. 3) Panel cutting: Because I'm a dumbass, I failed miserably, and cut all blue for one side, and all triangles for the other. No problem, it will be parted, still a fun visual... Also, I'm a noob in sewing and my seam allowance was as wide as a highway. 5) Sewing the panels: I'm trash with a sewing machine, so I only used it for the channels. But of course, being very intelligent, I had the pattern drawn down... on the side of the fabric that was pressed against, so very useful! The busk was the moment I realized my plan of making a reversible corset would probably have to be aborted. 6) First wear and adjustments, with only the busk and lacing boning: I realized the corset was a bit too cinched for the silhouette I had in mind, and corrected the most drastic curves, fingers crossed. I also saw the upper part was maybe too wide, but for a first try let's just finish this! As of now I have to cover the panel seams, sew the boning channels, cut the boning, try out, anchor the boning, sew a cover on the top and bottom seams and it would be "complete" (I should put a waist ribbon, but at this point I just want it to be done and start wearing it x) )

I love that you shared your corset experience. I used to work for a corset company called Dark Garden Corsetry. I lived in my corset every weekend during our Victorian Christmas Event called The Dickens Christmas Faire. I understand how important it is to get the right silhouette, be comfortable and be affordable. They are based in San Francisco, CA USA with another location in New Orleans, LA. They have several styles representing several eras both ready to wear, ready to wear with alterations or fully custom and can purchase in store or online. I hope that this information may be useful to you and your viewers. I love your candidness and content. Thank you for sharing your sewing and costume journey. Hugz
Maybe it's well known, I don't know, but I recently stumbled upon a BBC series called *A stitch in time*, have you seen it? Slightly off topic, but in an episode they recreated a stay worthy of Marie Antoinette and it was so interesting. I thought you might like it, it's just 6 episodes or something.
I wish I also could just point somewhere in the air and show the word that I'm looking for :( Too bad it doesn't work in real life, that would make it so much easier.
I CAN DO THAT TOO! Haha it's really fun to do and it gets odd looks from your friend. You're just there like "Don't mind me... just making all the liquid in my belly hit the walls and produce sound..."
I have to say, the thumbnail is so damn adorable! As someone who is starting to know more about historical garments this is so interesting to me, thanks for showing you collection to us.
The blue corset was my absolute favorite as well, because of the embroidery and also just of that beautiful blue hue! As a redhead, I am totally swooning 😁
Hey Karolina, I have started watching your videos just a few months back and I can't express how much it helps me. Your hair and outfit looks are really helpful and I like that you're so real to your audience with how you feel or how much things costs etc., and you gave me the courage to start trying out vintage styles in school a little bit (like neck scarves). I have loved the vintage style for a long time now and you showing us how to gradually let your fashion sense overcome you or how to apply it to daily life is so inspiring and useful. Thank you for inspiring us all, much love!
Victoria Kray i have the same feeling about hej ! How is your style today ? I just started using hair rolls because of Karolina ;) I am wearing them right now !
they are so beautiful, i'm in love * - * keep working on them! let me tell you my *real* bad corset making experience, so you can feel less bad about your first attempts 😂. when i was 10 i made my first corset out of cardboard. really. at the time i didn't know anything about corsets, i was just obsessed with period dramas, and i didn't have internet or anything to actually learn how they work. i remember i bought a "corset-style" top and of course it didn't do anything to my shape, i wanted something sturdier. so one night i just had the bright idea to take a cardboard box, cut 2 halves following the shape of the top, make holes and lace it with thread. believe it or not, it actually gave me some reduction and shape 😂 (btw thanks for the cat moment, i really appreciated it. give the kitty a kiss from me)
I have never seen somebody else in my life who can do the stomach growling trick! I've always been able to do that and it was my unique little party trick. I don't know why it makes me so happy but I was just SO delighted when you showed that.
Karolina, thank you! i enjoyed watching your collection a lot, and also even though i can't make such an elaborate architectural piece, you actually kicked me to find my sewing kit... take a needle after more than a year and mend a little hole at one of my oldest corsets i have, and it feels so good. love you 💙
i love your videos because you speak english like my great grandmother and my grandmother speak english and they came from what is poland toady after the war
You can definitely take what we in the sewing industry call 'fish eye' darts in some of the panels of the bought corsets to get a greater waist reduction.
e tam kochana ja i tak wciąż uważam twój s-bendowy gorset za przejaw geniuszu, który wniósł powiedzenie, że "jeśli coś jest głupie, ale działa, to znaczy, że nie jest głupie" na zupełnie nowy poziom
I keep clicking on your thumbnail in my recommendation feed, and you never disappointed me! Thank you for being honest, and knowledgeable, and entertaining at the same time!🐈♥️
ITS ONLY BEEN 5 YEARS SINCE YOU'VE STARTED PURSUING VINTAGE FASHION?!? Hope, you have given me hope my friend. Fantastic video! Keep up the good content! Also, a good beginners/ cheap corset is Orchard Corset. They even have a part of their websites where you can send in your measurements and they will recommend a corset model of theirs based on your shape and measurements!
has your collection changed in the past two years? im sure everyone would love an update video (hint hint ;p ) i wouldnt be surprised if theres classes and tutorials online for making and tailoring different historical corsets! ive watched a few videos from some sewing channels but theyre not really tutorials as much as they just show the project getting done
Your videos have inspired me so much recently! I've been doing foam rollers and I've started bringing out more of my vintage pieces because of you - thank you SO much! You really make me laugh, and your passion for true vintage has reminded me that I don't just want to stick with having good style, which I have, but that I want to cultivate my historical style. Thanks again! Love, Claire, 24 from Vancouver, Canada.
I'm still learning the basics, so a corset is a little out of my skill set right now 😂, but I dearly wish to try to make one on the future. And there are no good places in Brazil to buy a good corset unfortunately 😭. By the way, have you watched a documentary called A Stitch in Time? It's absolutely wonderful for the historical fashion lover. And Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries? I'm sure there are some inconsistencies but the clothes are delightful. Also, can I say how much I love your channel? I've been looking for content like this for while and I'm really glad I found it ❤
I could make a significant comment about the actual topic of your video, but I felt like saying that while I was watching it my mom saw you for a second and she was clueless about what you were talking about and said "Nice hair"
That's amazing that you made the red corset - I do not find creating garments of any sort an intuitive process and you took what has to be one of the most tailored, fitted, fussy items of clothing and put it together. It's amazing!
THANK YOU for exposing Corset Story!! I've almost wasted my money with them a couple times because they looked legit and I wanted their stuff so much 😫
@@hannahscott6198 I bought 3 of them; 2 of their fashion corsets and one waist training. They're pretty well constructed and fit nicely, generally a lot better than the other cheap corsets in my collection. The fashion corsets have more of the typical "tubular" appearance Karolina mentioned, not as waist defining as you'd expect. But I was pleasantly surprised at the definition I could achieve with the waist training one (you size down a few inches for this type). They're definitely more "modern" rather than historical in terms of silhouette, but honestly as a product I think they're pretty decent. Then again I don't have a custom made corset for comparison
Oh dang really? I bought my corset from there- it's just like the black one in this video and I like it a lot but I specifically went for comfortable and not too cheap
just wanted to let you know that corset story has two types of corsets . the one you had is an instant shape not meant for a dramatic shape and only a 2 inch reduction. they do have ones that are meant for a 4 inch reduction in their waist training section . the instant shape is meant to wear as corset tops over clothes for fashion and comfort which is why it did not give you the shape that you wanted . Those are more for every day fashion wear. Btw the pinkish corset that you made looks gorgeous even though the one side was bigger it still look's really good , you did a good job
Look at Restyle and Papercats. They are in Poland . Also, Corsetry and Romance is an amazing custom corset maker and priced very fairly. I can't say enough good things about her. Anyway , I realize youre not a daily corset wearer and you are on a budget. However Corsetry is one of those hobbies where you truly get what you pay for. Not sure where Redthreaded is based, but for historical corsets, she is an absolute authority. Same with Boudoir Key. As usual, love your video. Xoxo
Omg I have that same eBay corset ahaha. I call it the Lampshade, and bought it in like 2008 😬 and my friend had that same black one... I wonder if there’s just a factory that made loads of those and sold them to all internet corset shops
Great belly dance moves there. The diaphragm move is common for belly rolls. And it helps with aiding digestion. It is good that you continued to try and not give up on your corsetry endeavors. I am also learning about creating corsets and am a bit intimidated by them as well, But I am also excited about the opportunity to create them. I love your evolution of corset-making with the different ways you worked on them. I know they are not the best, but it shows your learning-curves. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
I just started sewing 9 months ago vintage and vintage/retro garments for myself which I do wear my makes. However, I am not experience enough in my opinion to sew Stays and a Corset which I need for living history for 18 and 19th centuries. I asked a friend in England to make both for me and I purchased the Burda and Simplicity Corset and Stays pattern; I want a Corset with the back close but the front open and I want 18th century stays with the individual legs and the back close. I also want the Corset to be very beautiful of Victorian of a light color not to be seen thru white fabric with floral and embroidery. The Stays will be a color not to be seen thru white fabric with floral and bias tape to match. thanks for sharing
Yaaaass, a new video ! EDIT : I wondered, did you learn how to sew by yourself or did you attend to lessons ? It's not perfect but still, I'm impressed ! I can only sew veeery simple things and I find it so time consuming. It is why I'm even more blind-minded when I see the work of Corsetry & Romance. That's some skills goal !

my parents taught me some basics (how to use a sewing machine, how to work with a pattern etc) and then I had to learn the rest myself, mostly by following online tutorials - which is why my sewing knowledge has some serious gaps, like I have no idea how to sew a zipper in, but I'm perfectly ok with making a bustle cage
Revisiting this video now that I own some corsets of my own and oh BOY do I feel seen when you mentioned that the beautiful blue corset doesn’t actually take any inches off the waist. Whenever I mention that I get comments like “then what’s the point???” from people who don’t get that much of corsetry is about illusion and redistribution of squish.
This is nice. It like a drawer full of bras that more or less fit but in different ways. Some expensive, some cheap, some comfy, and some eh "I worn it once to some event and never again." Thanks for the fiting explination.
Thank you for showing your first attempts! I would love to try to sew costumes but it's very intimidating, so seeing others first attempts is encouraging!
Oh my god I have a black one that looks so similar to that cheapy one you have. My waist is not 20” anymore, so I can’t wear it. I love how your blue one looks. That color and shape is so pretty!
when you buy corsets, you can buy according to reduction and different styles offer different silhouette styles, but usually a proper corset isnt much less than 100-150 dollars for a small reduction
Thanks for this!!! I didn't know it was possible to self lace. I laced then struggled with front closures. I've had a few modern corsets, bought not made. One I wore underneath clothes but two as tops (brown leather with steam punk type hooks got a chivalry fair in Vegas and another online ordered sequined usa flag style).
I would love to learn how to make Victorian and Regency corsets, but I don't really know where to start. I have made Tudor style corsets/bodices (not historically accurate, probably, but I really don't care) I made them to be worn either as corsets or as bodices for a medieval/Tudor costume. I wore one to a Renaissance Faire and made one for my sister, and so many people complimented us on them. I hope to go into costume design for a career, so this video is awesome and really relieving. Thanks for making my night happier, Karolina! Ps, your Corseted Cat looks fab:)
the part that goes on the outside edge is called binding. the blue corset is absolutely beautiful and the stay that keeps poking out is simply a matter of wear.. they tend to do that no matter how carefully they are put together. also, the place where individual boning goes are channels. they are all lovely in their own way, you are too critical, they are not half so bad as you imagine. I used to make stays for 18th Century.. and have seen some pretty awful looking corsets! : ) love your videos.
16:52 I HAVE THIS CORSET OMG- it it fits you properly it does a decent job on silhouette actually I got it off Amazon for about 20 bucks and I really like it.
Lol this takes me back to when I was 8 and really into historical fiction, so I stole about 6 of my mom's plain white dinner napkins and frankensteined them together with my mini sewing kit and some ribbon. I was so immensely disappointed and let down that it didn't function as an actual corset would.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful collection! I can't wait to start making corsets/foundation garments as well as historical clothing!! You are an inspiration :) Lots of love from Australia♡♡♡♡♡

Like my philosophy with this is that I'm almost 100% sure whatever I'm wearing is gonna look better then it would if I didn't have one, so that's what I'm going for right now. I can improve with the next one, and the one after that. And I'll definitely use proper plastic boning :D
Karolina Żebrowska
Plastic spoons?!
Challenge accepted!
Wow that blue one is so gorgeous.
The first one gives you an amazing shape
It was a strange day when I found out not everyone can push their organs around by sucking in
Wait what
*moM I WANT A CORSEEEEET*
Same but I'm not old enough to get one because it'll mess with my bones and that's not healthy.
Glory Who wait how old do you gotta be?
@@hazeltw29 probably 17 i think that in 1850's girls started to ware corsets when they were 17 but i am not shure
hana banana makes sense, thanks for elaborating. :)
@@hazeltw29 I think you have to be at least 18/fully developed(bone wise).
As though I wasn't already convinced of her talent, I now learn about the stomach noise thing.

I thought you might like it, it's just 6 episodes or something.
omg that series is amazing. i think i watched them all in one sitting haha. i was so entranced.
I know, right? Me too! Hehe
I really hope they do a second season.
wow, I have just watched it
My costumes teacher recommended it to me when I was helping her unload a donation. She said it was really good!
@@frenchfry8665 You're an ass.
You should do a video about how to start with historical clothing
Me: i should make a corset too
Also me: doesnt even have anywhere to go wearing heels
Mood
Do it anyway, I wear mine while working at home. Gives me a wonderful posture and helps with back pain after long hours at the desk.
this might be a weird thing to say but this whole video has such a nice aesthetic, a very pretty video!!
i adore that nightgown, i wish i could find a shirt with similar sleeves and lace trim, so gorgeous! Also you are so beautiful, i love your hair
I wish I also could just point somewhere in the air and show the word that I'm looking for :(
Too bad it doesn't work in real life, that would make it so much easier.
I have some of those cheap corsets, I only bought them so I could take out the busk and the boning for an actual period corset.
very smart, I might do the same thing
I CAN DO THAT TOO! Haha it's really fun to do and it gets odd looks from your friend. You're just there like "Don't mind me... just making all the liquid in my belly hit the walls and produce sound..."
EXACTLY hahahah
Karolina Żebrowska It's a really unuseful trick 😂
My daughter does that too sometimes. Gross but amusing
I love your home made corsets, they look old/vintage like thay have been worn and repared thro the years!
I CANNOT sew....so, no matter how bad you think it is, you have far surpassed anything I could have come up with! And YOU ARE SO VERY TINY! LOL
oh no, believe me, after a year of feeding myself with Sainsbury's lasagne I AM NOT TINY
Karolina Żebrowska 😂
Karolina Żebrowska u still beautiful
I just started using hair rolls because of Karolina ;) I am wearing them right now !
they are so beautiful, i'm in love * - * keep working on them! let me tell you my *real* bad corset making experience, so you can feel less bad about your first attempts 😂. when i was 10 i made my first corset out of cardboard. really. at the time i didn't know anything about corsets, i was just obsessed with period dramas, and i didn't have internet or anything to actually learn how they work. i remember i bought a "corset-style" top and of course it didn't do anything to my shape, i wanted something sturdier. so one night i just had the bright idea to take a cardboard box, cut 2 halves following the shape of the top, make holes and lace it with thread. believe it or not, it actually gave me some reduction and shape 😂 (btw thanks for the cat moment, i really appreciated it. give the kitty a kiss from me)
XD Cardboard
Actually, it sounds fun to make a mockup out of cardboard. Maybe I will try it one day.
As a child I was VERY obsessed with period clothing and now I’m realizing there are other people like me
I think its so amazing that you actually made these yourself. It must be so hard to do
The corsets are interesting and lovely but I absolutely adore that chemise! It’s so pretty and elegant I want oooonneeee
I have never seen somebody else in my life who can do the stomach growling trick! I've always been able to do that and it was my unique little party trick. I don't know why it makes me so happy but I was just SO delighted when you showed that.
Karolina, thank you! i enjoyed watching your collection a lot, and also even though i can't make such an elaborate architectural piece, you actually kicked me to find my sewing kit... take a needle after more than a year and mend a little hole at one of my oldest corsets i have, and it feels so good. love you 💙
Please go back to saying
" hey, its ur meme mom"
I cant live without it!
Yes please 🙏
6:21 "wiggle wiggle wiggle" 😂😂😂 I always love seeing the silly side of you.
i love your videos because you speak english like my great grandmother and my grandmother speak english and they came from what is poland toady after the war
You should collaborate with Bernadette Banner and Rachel Maksy! It would be absolutely fantastical!
Thanks for sharing your humanity. Your honesty about having been imperfect is inspiring. 💕
Could you do a video about how to look after a corset? 😊
I love what you are doing 😍 you are so precise!!!
You can definitely take what we in the sewing industry call 'fish eye' darts in some of the panels of the bought corsets to get a greater waist reduction.
XD I am so stupid! I have been calling those double darts.
e tam kochana ja i tak wciąż uważam twój s-bendowy gorset za przejaw geniuszu, który wniósł powiedzenie, że "jeśli coś jest głupie, ale działa, to znaczy, że nie jest głupie" na zupełnie nowy poziom

They are all so lovely looking! I can't imagine making one, they sound very intricate! 😀💖💖
That first corset makes you look like a princess! Absolutely love it!
Currently hand sewing my first corset. It's made out of denim (yes technically that IS a historically accurate fabric) so it's my jorset. I'm stoked!
has your collection changed in the past two years? im sure everyone would love an update video (hint hint ;p )
i wouldnt be surprised if theres classes and tutorials online for making and tailoring different historical corsets! ive watched a few videos from some sewing channels but theyre not really tutorials as much as they just show the project getting done
The first one is so pretty!! But the last one is my favorite! I love that style of corset the best.
I've been looking for content like this for while and I'm really glad I found it ❤
Caroline Baptiste if you want corsets in Brazil there are quite a few makers. The easiest way to look is go to Lucy's Corsetry Website.
What Sarah said. I believe Madam Cher is Brazilian , but surely there are others as well😊
I IS SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU!!!

I've almost wasted my money with them a couple times because they looked legit and I wanted their stuff so much 😫
Are they that bad? Been really wanting to get one from there but have heard VERY mixed comments about them..
They have notorious history.
Corset Story is still notorious and infamous by reputation, though.
Xoxo
Your videos are some of the only videos that are over 10 minutes long that I’m excited to watch all the way through! 💖😄
Omg I have that same eBay corset ahaha. I call it the Lampshade, and bought it in like 2008 😬 and my friend had that same black one... I wonder if there’s just a factory that made loads of those and sold them to all internet corset shops
very likely 😬
Thank you so much for making these videos! you have really brought back my passion for historical costuming!
Whenever I watch you videos I always watch the entire ad and click on the link for the ad! Gotta get that ad revenue, ayeee 😎
The belle-epoque one is quite endearing for a first corset. I wish I had kept my first corsets to see the change!
You are so lovely in the blue corset. Your silhouette is goals!
"Hello there... viewers." Lol I love your videos so much! Also I checked out Corsetry and Romance, and her items and photos are so beautiful!!! :o
Third one looks like those little cups you get a fast food places for ketchup. 😂 Still better than anything I could ever do!
Lol!
I love the fact you mention the bronte's and jane Eyre, I live down the road from haworth I've been wanting an 1840s corset aswell
This is nice. It like a drawer full of bras that more or less fit but in different ways. Some expensive, some cheap, some comfy, and some eh "I worn it once to some event and never again." Thanks for the fiting explination.
That was fun!!!! I just bought my first corset. Will have to wait a month for a friend to deliver it. Too much shipping and duty to have it sent here.
I usually never watch videos over 15 min but I was engaged throughout this entire video, love it!
Yeah, Corset Story is not it.
In this weird period of isolation and writing from Italy, I hope you are doing super well
I would love to learn how to make Victorian and Regency corsets, but I don't really know where to start.
I had to do a double take😂it sounds so American when she says hello to her cat
You make me laugh so much girl, I love watching your videos.
the part that goes on the outside edge is called binding. the blue corset is absolutely beautiful and the stay that keeps poking out is simply a matter of wear.. they tend to do that no matter how carefully they are put together. also, the place where individual boning goes are channels. they are all lovely in their own way, you are too critical, they are not half so bad as you imagine. I used to make stays for 18th Century.. and have seen some pretty awful looking corsets! : ) love your videos.
16:52 I HAVE THIS CORSET OMG-
it it fits you properly it does a decent job on silhouette actually
I got it off Amazon for about 20 bucks and I really like it.
Mine fits but it doesn't cinch the sides
Lol this takes me back to when I was 8 and really into historical fiction, so I stole about 6 of my mom's plain white dinner napkins and frankensteined them together with my mini sewing kit and some ribbon. I was so immensely disappointed and let down that it didn't function as an actual corset would.
You fared much better than I, by the way, if that counts for anything.
XD Napkins
you are much braver than I am! I have made 16 piece dresses but corsets have always intimidated me!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful collection! I can't wait to start making corsets/foundation garments as well as historical clothing!! You are an inspiration :)
Lots of love from Australia♡♡♡♡♡
I just want you to know that this was the first video of yours I ever watched and when you moved your diaphragm to make your stomach grumble is what made me click subscribe
TAKE WHAT YOU WANT
You should really do a vintage look book just of like some of your fav outfits. I love your channel btw💙
