    I'd never have guessed you have social anxiety. You seem very confident and comfortable. I have some form of social anxiety too. I don't feel anxious in shopping malls, train stations etc. but I'd be way too anxious to put out a video of myself on you tube.
    This was interesting to watch. well done.

      Thanks dragon fruit. I do worry sometimes that my anxiety shows, so to hear that comments like this means a lot :)
      It's strange but I don't feel as anxious posting videos for strangers to see, but I'd feel a lot less comfortable if anybody I knew was to stumble across the videos, hah ha!

      That's fantastic! I'm really pleased you found my video helpful 😊. Yeah it can be challenging trying to overcome those negative thoughts before class - even though you know you'll enjoy the class once you're there. Glad yo hear that you stuck with it and are still there a year later. Good luck and stay positive! 🙂👍🏻

    Thanks, I came accross this because I am looking to try a karate class soon, but I am anxious of being bullied or finding a lot of mean people there, even though that hasn't really happened since grammar school. You can say it's an irrational fear, and I am much older now, but it's a huge psychological challenge nontheless. However, I also feel like it's a way of coming to terms with suffering from my past and finding the courage to overcome it - and to improve myself in different ways

    • @johnnyboykickboxer8302
      @johnnyboykickboxer8302  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your comment DonAgucho. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about (I know easier said than done when suffering with anxiety). Most martial arts academies are really friendly. The one I go to has a good mix of people, all different ages, some more shy than others, but l are really friendly. Arriving for that first class can be intimidating at first, but once you do it you'll wonder why you were worrying so much. I'm confident you won't be bullied, and instead it's highly likely you'll be more than welcomed 🙂👍🏻

    Hey, great video. I've been wanting to start going to Kickboxing/Boxing for the past 4 years and never found the courage. It's really just an irrational fear, and because of the insecurities that I have to overcome. But in reality, I know that no one will care about them, and even if they do and I embarrass myself, I shouldn't really care about it. Which of course we all know but it's still hard to adopt that mindset, I've been getting better at it lately, more confident. It really helps to know that someone who had more severe social anxiety than myself still managed to take that first class (good job), which makes me think that I could do it too, good vid.

    • @johnnyboykickboxer8302
      @johnnyboykickboxer8302  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thank you so much. I'm glad you liked my video 🙂. Yes it really is an irrational fear, and one of the things I often find when training at kickboxing is that I'm so in the zone that I tend to forget about all my irrational fears. You're right, nobody will care about our insecurities as they'll likely be too busy getting on with their training to notice. I've often embarrassed myself on class, but do do other people and we just need to laugh it off and try not to make a bug deal of it (even though we're secretly dying of embarrassment inside). It is tough to adopt that mindset, but I usually just put on a brave face and go with the flow, pretending that I'm not anxious. There's a famous saying " The world's a stage and we're all actors". Or something along those lines anyway 🤔. Basically we get good at faking things and hiding our insecurities in order to portray ourselves to others how we want them to see us. I still suffer with anxiety sometimes, especially of I haven't been to kickboxing for a while and I get reluctant to go back and make excuses to myself. But when I eventually to bite the bullet and go back, I suddenly remembered how much I love it and all the anxiety disappears.
      Anyway, I really do hope you can find the courage to start kickboxing, just take that leap and book that first class. I think you'll really enjoy it. Good luck and let me know how you get on 🙂👍🏻

      @@johnnyboykickboxer8302 Thanks for the words of encouragement. Fell ya, you always have to be careful about anxiety creeping back in.
      I am 95% sure that I will enjoy it, a lot, it will make me grow as a person in many verticals, it's great stress relief, and it will make it easier to get and keep fit, and I'll have a great time. Good all around. And yet, even though it's all true, as we all know it's still difficult to begin. But, you just need to set your mind on starting and ignoring everything else until you begin. At the end of the day, we are all just overthinking it. Well, we'll see if I get to actually doing it

    I can relate to your story, iv been training muay thai since december, i had 5 One on one PT lessons with My instructor before i did a class, i would recomend doing that if possible as it breaks the ice & gives you the basic basics (if that makes sence) , Iv lost 3 & half stone & my diet is 10x better than it was. Im 32 now & all i think about is how i wish i started it in my school days & not gone down the whole Clubbing/Drugs scene rout

It just goes to show how taking up kickboxing can lead to a better and healthier lifestyle. JohnnyBoy Kickboxer if you dont have a training partner (like me) then PTs are a great way to start, wont be as arkward if you have someone to go with. It can be a little scary to start with (stepping into the unknown can feel like that), but I'm sure you'll have a great time while getting fit at the same time. Don't worry about your current level of fitness, a lot of people tale up kickboxing for exactly that reason - to get fit! There lots of people in my class who weren't very fit to start with (myself included). Good luck, and please do let us know how you get on 🙂👍🏻

    • @johnnyboykickboxer8302
      @johnnyboykickboxer8302  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that feeling only too well. Fear of being laughed at or bullied, and that was one of my biggest fears when I decided to sign up for kickboxing classes. It turns out that the MMA academy I joined, everyone was really friendly and everyone understands that you are new and don't yet know the ropes. Most decent gyms have a zero tolerance policy against bullying (it's in the gyms best interests to look after you as they obviously want people to stay and keep paying their monthly subscription, and not quit).
      If you do join a gym or start classes and feel intimated (it's unlikely), or you find you don't enjoy it as much as you had hoped - then quit as it's probably not the right gym for you anyway.
      Please give it a try and let me know how you get on 🙂
