    My mom's helping me start classes for this, I'm a self-taught developer and I've never really pursued my hobbies irl outside of going to concerts. Going on benders gets stale really fast too. I started gymnastics in my youth so i have experience with sports but im super excited to learn this to help with my wellness and socializing. Ive had a gym membership but doing HIIT alone got torturous. This seems like it'll be super fun, can't wait

    Extremely late to this video, but im 14 and tomorrow i have my first kickboxing lesson since i was about 6, im going to a different gym and im literally terrified, i have social anxiety due to bullying and an intense fear of being judged. This video really helped thanks buddy ❤

    I have been doing kickboxing for 12 years and I am 21 now. I am currently 1st degree of black belt since I was 16. For the grading exams in my association, it's more difficult in the physical part for male adults. I am a part-time coach, and my helper, age 49, male, blue-red belt. To promote for the red belt, he needs to complete 40 reverse kick within 1 minute. However, with his leg injury, it is very difficult for him. Even if I know how to do that within the time limit, he cannot do that as his leg pain restricted his movement.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes it can be quite challenging when progressing to the higher grades, especially for someone with an injury like the guy you're talking about. He's done extremely well to get the grade that he's at with a leg injury. Hopefully if his leg heals and he keeps practicing, he will one day be awarded the red belt 🙂

    I just today completed my first ever kickboxing class at the age of 35!… I was very nervous at first as I didn’t know anyone but once I got through the door everyone was very welcoming and friendly my anxiety started to fade and I felt like I known everyone for years!… the community is very supportive. It’s just a case of getting through the door I promise you, you won’t regret it. I plan on continuing this hobby as I find it really fun as there is NO age limit or fitness restrictions to this discipline.

    Great pads! I just received them past week and tried them at the gym...Quite heavy holding pads for 3-4 rounds but I suppose I'll get used to them eventually.

    I know this is a super late comment, but according to Venum, those wraps still go around your hand and wrist, NOT JUST your wrist ... that version is meant to simply provide some additional padding UNDER the wraps ... it's supposed to still be quicker than plain wraps, i.e., don't have to wrap between the fingers (but I still do)

    I’m 17 and have wanted to start for like half a year now but I have to wait until I’m 18 to do it. Is there anything I could do that would help me in the meantime until I do start classes?

      Hey mate, I'm so pleased you're considering taking up kickboxing 🙂👊🏻🥊💥. It's such a shame that you can't start until you're 18. Some gyms/academies offer classes for under 18s, so I'm not sure if that's something that is available in your area 🤔. Other than that, the best thing would be to learn the absolute basics by watching TH-cam tutorials. Learn things such as the correct stance, footwork, and the terminology of the different of the different punches etc (1 for jab, 2 for cross etc). Dont do anything fancy, just practice these basics first and then when you do start your training when you turn 18, you'll have a good understanding of these fundamental basics. Good luck and let me know how it goes 🙂

    I am currently healing from a syndesmosis injury. I had to get a tightrope fixation and hope that will alleviate most of the weakness, but I can expect that full recovery will be around a full year.

    I have been doing kickboxing 17 years and I am a black belt with quite a few amateur fights winning all of them and am looking to go professional. It’s a lot of hard work but it is 10000% worth it👍🏻

      Hey there, its great to hear that you're thinking of taking up kickboxing. It really is a great way to get fit. Most places will take on beginners and don't require you to already be physically fit as you will get fit while training. Everyone has to start somewhere and some kickboxing gyms will offer beginners classes. The best thing to do would be to contact a few kickboxing gyms or academies and ask.       @@johnnyboykickboxer8302it's been 9 days i joined kickboxing gym (Thai style) I'm very skinny so my trainer advised me to do weights for 30 mins then kickboxing for 1 hr . I start with running Skipping Push-up Pull up 5 min rest Chest/ bicep or shoulder tricep (simultaneous days) 10 mins break Streching 100 jabs on bag 100 cross on bag 50 jab cross combo on heavy bag 10 mins break Leg stretches because my flexibility is extremely bad lol Day before yesterday i did 50 left and right kicks. My shins are bruised and paining alot. My coach advised to rest my legs for 2 days. I'll have to start kicking from tomo and im really scared lol .

    I don’t recommend these for larger folks, especially when sparring with a partner and having to switch from gloves to pads, the gel padding makes it difficult to fit your hand into the pads leaving your partner waiting and the clock counting down.

      Good point. They're got great at all for fitting inside a glove. I ended up switching back to regular hand wraps

    I don't think that i have anxiety.... BUT, it's really hard to even go to the gym, i feel really weird, and it sucks, I'm not scared about pain or anything... It's part of the thing... But im scared of being bullied or something similar...

      I know that feeling only too well. Fear of being laughed at or bullied, and that was one of my biggest fears when I decided to sign up for kickboxing classes. It turns out that the MMA academy I joined, everyone was really friendly and everyone understands that you are new and don't yet know the ropes. Most decent gyms have a zero tolerance policy against bullying (it's in the gyms best interests to look after you as they obviously want people to stay and keep paying their monthly subscription, and not quit). If you do join a gym or start classes and feel intimated (it's unlikely), or you find you don't enjoy it as much as you had hoped - then quit as it's probably not the right gym for you anyway. Please give it a try and let me know how you get on 🙂

      Yes some gyms can be quite expensive, but those prices are usually for unlimited classes. There may be some gyms that allow you limited classes or pay per class - £5 per class for example so that you could go 2 classes per week. Although I would recommend more than 2 classes per week, 2 is better than nothing - it just means it'll take longer to learn the different techniques. If that isn't an option or is still too expensive, then there are plenty of online videos and tutorials for free. Obviously this won't be as good as attending physical classes and practicing with a partner, but again, it's better than nothing. When I first started learning kickboxing I trained along to online videos to learn some of the basics, but I quickly realised that I would have to sign up to physical classes to really learn the martial art. I found an academy that offered a month trial at a discounted price of £25, then £50 per month membership thereafter. Basically I had to make some changes to other areas in my lifestyle to afford the monthly membership, including going for fewer nights out etc. But it was totally worth it. Good luck and I hope you're able to find an affordable gym soon 🙂🥊👊🏻💥

    My advice for throwing the round house midsection: If you are in further distance, target your opponent's shoulder with your foot to have a little buffer. This way you will end up still hitting the mid section with your shin. If you are closer, target your opponent's area above the hip with your shin. Another option is to try to throw the roundhouse kick a bit more from top to bottom, like a question mark kick. That way you will only hit your opponent's elbow on the upper flat end or on the flat side instead of ramming your foot right into the peak of the elbow. Additionally, I'd do without just throwing a single roundhouse out of nowhere right into the opponent's guarded midsection. Always kick or punch high first to make your opponent raise his guard. Then follow up with a mid roundhouse or whatever. Also, side kicks are much underrated today. You should try them more often instead of a mid roundhouse. Stepping to the side and ramming a side kick into your opponent's rib cage is not too bad, I think. Plus, the heel is made of steel. Good luck everybody.

      Hey there, great to hear that you're thinking of taking up kickboxing. Its good fun and a great way to keep fit 🙂 Don't worry about having no experience and being a bit shit to start with. I was exactly the same when I first started. I didn't know how to throw a punch properly, or the correct stance or anything. And to be honest everyone who first starts kickboxing will be the same. The instructor and your peers will understand that you're new to the sport, and they won't expect too much from you until you learn the new skills. It all takes time and practice - a lot of it! Try and find somewhere that offers beginner classes and they will start from the bottom so you can learn the correct stance for kickboxing, and how to throw basic punches correctly, then how to throw basic kicks correctly. Try not to get disheartened if things don't happen quickly (it took me years, and I still have my bad moments where I feel like I'm a bit shit, lol 😅) Good luck and let me know how you get on 🙂 🥊👊🏻💥

      Mine never did fully heal and still plays up from time to time. But once it was healed enough to return to training I had to wear an ankle support as that ankle was weaker and probably always will be

I then tried BJJ the next day also, leading me to immediately joining the gym and hyped for my next sessions! Your video really helped me have the confidence to do something I never normally would, thankyou so much for putting it out there.

      @@alexphillips7544 same here - I was 38 when I first started. That was 4 amd a half years ago and I'm still not used to taking hits to the head, lol 😆. To be honest, I dint think you ever get used to it as nobody likes being hit in the head. But over time you will get better at evading or blocking those attacks. You'll eventually get a feel of when an attack is coming that way based on your opponents body language, and you'll be able to slip, roll, or block the attack and then counter attack to hopefully take him by surprise. As I say it all takes time though and lots of practice. Make sure you practice at home too by doing lots of shadow boxing. Imagine there's an opponent standing in front of you throwing kicks and punches, and practice getting out of the way (slips, rolls, lean back etc) and blocking. You'll get there eventually, but yeah you will get hit (lots) in the meantime and its never nice. You just need to figure out how to minimise it 🙂👊🏻

    I understand the point, but in my opinion I think that belts are use for a marketing image, I know that it has its good sides, it can be very good to motivate young children, but that type of belts system in a modern martial sport has a macdojo aura, they don't use belts systems in boxing for example and belts in kickboxing is a new thing. Just an opinion.

      Good point. They also don't use a belt grading system in Muay Thai. But a lot of kickboxing academies do use the belt grading system, and it can be a very useful tool to measure ability and increase motivation (especially for those new to kickboxing). Also its a good way to identify at what stage others in class are in their kickboxing journey. When asked to partner up for sparring it usually makes sense to partner with someone a similar grade with the same ability and skills. Having said that, it can definitely benefit someone new to occasionally partner with someone further along in their journey as they can often pick up new techniques and nuances from someone more experienced, just along as the more experienced student acknowledges that their partner is less experienced 🤔

    JohnnyBoy how long did it take to heal completely? I have torned my ligaments in my right ankle but now after 5 months i still feel pain so I can‘t generate much power on that foot let it be springing or kicking.

      Hey mate so sorry to hear that you torn your ligament 😕. To be honest my injury never fully healed and I still have problems occasionally after lengthy training sessions. I would say it probably took around 6 months before I was able to train properly, but I usually have to go lighter when kicking with that leg and I also wear ankle support as it still feels weaker than my other ankle. The key is not to push things too hard and dint return to full training and sparring too soon. Give it time to heal and just go light when kicking with that leg. But as I say there's a chance that it may never 100% completely heal. Good luck and hope you can get back to proper training soon 🙂🥊👊🏻💥

    you want to talk about a bad diagnosis. had a spiral fracture towards the bottom of my fibula that the army diagnose as shin splints. I ran on a broken leg for 6 months until finally the bone shattered and slid up my leg side by side. they said I was going to need a rod and screws to a realign my bone. the next morning in the hospital I had a different doctor and he said you'll be fine we're just going to realign the bone by hand put a cast on you and you'll be back good as new. I spent my entire 10 years of active duty on a permanent profile because I tore my syndesmosis and I was in continuous pain all the time and couldn't run. the doctor's all said there's nothing you can really do, after active duty I went and saw the VA a few years after getting out and just had my fibula cut and lengthened and a rod attached to hold it in place I had titanium threads and a sheath wrapped around my ligaments to hold them in place I had a tendon cut and fused to another tendon and I had my first metatarsal broken shortened and reattached to adjust my gate when walking. after almost 15 years from the injury I started to get serious knee pain and the doctor said if I kept us going until my sixties I probably would have had hip pain and needed a knee and hip replacement at some point in time worst part of the whole thing is as a kid I was an amateur kickboxer up into my twenties and when I join the army I intended on continuing my career in martial arts it was ended very quickly.

    Another great video :) I went last night but was so tired beforehand I wasn’t really feeling it, but ended up doing a double session and was absolutely buzzing afterwards :) so true about it being more fun than a gym, I used to find that so boring. Also last night someone bought homemade flapjacks so that was a bonus haha.
