As a born-and-raised New Orleanian, I highly recommend Commander's Palace for lunch. It's across the street from a gorgeous cemetery that gives tours. Check out Stanley's, Surrey's, Irene's, Saffron, Pho Bistro, and Galatoire's (to name a few more).
I think my friend Chris is the chef there! I didn't get there this time but I am going to go. I also think Chris was in the middle of having a baby with his wife! Thanks for dropping by Samantha. :)
Galatoire’s and Tujaque’s in the Quarter. The great shock after Katrina was the looting of every store on Canal - Godchaux, Maison Blanche and Holmes destroyed.
Another place in the Quarter to try char grilled oysters is Felix's. For late night eats try Buffa's - great dive atmosphere. If you can get yourself there on a Thursday night at 8 when Tom McDermott and Aurora Nealand are performing you'll here some of the most spine tingling soul stirring NOLA music you'll ever experience.
Buffa's...now this takes me WAY back. Back in the early 90's, a large group of friends from my darts leagues used to do Saturday night tournaments there. Then, we'd do bar crawls all around into the wee hours of Sunday morning. One Sunday during the fall, we combined all of that with a stumbling, hung over breakfast, then a Saints game. My body (especially my head) couldn't hack that punishment these days. ;)
I’m barely 5 minutes in and I’m already ready to book a flight to Nola. Everything sounds incredibly incredible. Thanks for highlighting these eatery’s.

@@AH-vz9rr I'm coming back! SO, I will do Cafe du Monde next time just to have been to both. To be honest, I have had enough experience making pastries to know that a beignet is a fairly simple little donut to make, so they probably taste mostly the same. But I will do both and report back! :)
We came back from a week in NOLA 2 days ago. I recommend : number 1 Fin's, followed buy Irene's, Chophouse, Cochon, NOLA, Mr B. are also very good choices.

Tip from someone who gets to go to NOLA at least once per year. Share meals or you will never get to try everything!!! Have appetizers and drinks in one restaurant and a meal in another. Monteleone has the best brunch in the quarter. Pat O Briens, Acme, Ruby Slipper and Dragos are tourist traps. You can get better food and drinks in some of the more local restaurants.
Love RnOs in Bucktown, but Deannies (around the corner from RnOs) has some awesome food too. Their mile high seafood platter, BBQ shrimp, and the fried artichoke appetizer are some of my favorites. But, don’t fill up on the free crab boiled new potatoes or you’ll never finish your meal.
What a trip. I live in Laredo and am thinking about taking the train to N.O. for 2-3 days. Just not sure if everything is up and running as normal since the darn covid mess.
It’s not! I was there the end of August and there is a new court mandate all the bars are closed unless it’s a restaurant bar also no public drinking but some places will let you slide with a to go cup. Besides that a lot of places are open for business, there’s still many people walking the French Quarter, and tours are still operating. I went on a swamp tour, ghost and vampire, and cemetery although we couldn’t get inside the cemetery because of Covid it was the most informative tour for me. Just wear your mask. I still enjoyed every moment of New Orleans and just booked for January

Doc Savage Broiled seafood. If it weren’t the summer oysters. Shrimp are good as well. Let me know what you think please. Recommending food is difficult because people’s tastes vary so much. The point I was trying to make is that there are 3 good restaurants in on block. You shouldn’t have to wait in line. I didn’t have to wait in line at Bourbon House or Dickie Brennen’s. My girlfriends dying to go back to New Orleans recently, saying she's been there 3-4 times and absolutely loves it, while I have yet to been there myself am weary of covid ruining my first time to such a warm and beautiful city, so while some restrictions are in place and may damper some of the traditional fun we may have had, if our trip to New Orleans is anything like you guys, it sounds like foodie lovers dream, you have totally inspired me to take her up on visiting the French Quarters. --Thanks for making this video, I loved it, great filming and production... you two are a Cute couple. :) :)
So, I followed Gazebo Cafe on Instagram (I follow everyone I mention in the videos) and DANG!!!!! I cant believe I missed the ice cream daiquiri! I will def get that when I go back with my sister in law in March. I heard a lot about the Mr. B's bbq shrimp from another chef but I had just gotten bbq shrimp for breakfast (odd). Hi Cowgirl. As a visitor to NO for over 40 years I enjoyed your video. I LOVE The Hotel Monteleone and The Carousel Bar. I agree, its hard to get a seat, but I have been lucky most of the time. When you go back to NO try the Hurricane at The Red Fish Grill. They are the BEST. There are so many great restaraunts in NO. Mambo's, Irene's, The Pelican Club, Ed's, Commander's Palace, GW Fins, Brennans to name a few. Like you, I am a BIG fan of the char oysters at Acme. Delicious! There are a lot of poor boy sandwiches but I love the ones at Johnny's. For a cool dive bar in The FQ go to Erin Rose. Have fu. I wiill be there in 3 weeks. Yippie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First timer. Great video and recommendations. I'm a foodie with a Culinary Arts background. I was there in October, but friends we're more interested in stripper clubs. If you haven't tried The Country Club do so. It's kinda out of the way but GREAT Sunday Brunch. We were there when the Saints had a home game. You two should schedule a trip back when they have a home game. It's worth the experience...👍
Thanks for the tip! I have not ever heard of the country club there! I will research that for next time. Do you kow the name? I'm glad you had a nice time and next time you should go with another foodie!! 😝 - Sarah
I've never been to Cafe Beignet in the morning or when I'm sober. I have however been to the Bourbon street location a few times at like 11:30 pm for drunken snacks. I hardcore crave pastry after a few drinks.
Well we would go somewhere and order their most famous thing and a drink and then head to the next place, sharing each dish as we went! You can do it easy with two people. I mean I am a chef though so I live to eat. :D
You did Drago's wrong... the Metairie Drago's is the original and their ersters (oysters) are exponentially better than the ones downtown in the Hilton...

Haven’t eaten at Draggo’s in NOLA, but ate at their restaurant in Baton Rogue a long time ago. Draggo’s has good ratings. To be honest you have to look long and hard to get a bad meal in NOLA.
I agree! We ended up at the Hilton Drago's by complete accident because we had been hanging out with this local couple that we met at the bar and they told us to come meet them at Drago's. So, we google it and show up at the Drago's a couple streets away not realizing that there is 2 Drago's in that area. So, we messed up. :( There is the same thing in Galveston with these 2 famous Italian restaurants with the same name. One is awesome, and the other one is beyond terrible, same family and everything.

So uncooked flour has this very distinct flavor and mouthfeel, and I felt like I tasted it on the oysters at Drago's. Now, I have since been informed that we didn't go to "the right" Drago's and we need to go to the orginal (which we will). At first I thought it was creamier than the Acme Oysters, but then that raw flour taste hit me and I just can't hang with that. There was parm on there too but this was underneath. Maybe it was just a weird order and that's not how they usually are but I much prefer straight compound butter and melted parm.

@@lizz1187 I will say this, everyone says we went to the wrong Drago's. Don't go to the one at the hotel (I think its the Sheraton on the river), there is another one somewhere around downtown that is the local spot. We will be going back and trying that one in May.
The Drago’s in Metairie is where the locals go.
In fact you have to work to find a bad meal in NOLA. One if not my favorite restaurant cities. Bon Appetite!
OMG!!! NOLA Bloody Mary! The Best! Grilled oysters!!!!!!!
My fave is still Gazebo Cafe! I follow them on Instagram. Beautiful drinks!
I've always wanted to stay in that hotel. What a great surprise? Sending this to my boyfriend so he can get some good ideas for our next NOLA trip.
You Gotta Go Back and try Deenies Char Broiled Oysters OMG. AMAZING ! Muriels is a Must Too.. Tableau , The Gumbo Shop is AWSOME , And the Avenue Pub in the Garden District for Their Chicken Confeit , Holy Crap !! I have been going to Nola Every Year for Vacation. And have NEVER Had a Bad Meal. Ever...
I am writing all this down! We are going back in May and I'm going to do all viewer recommendations so thank you for your expertise!
Might I suggest Court of the Two Sisters for their turtle soup next time you visit; it’s incredibly delicious.
YES! That was another one on the list that we just didnt have time for. Next time I hope to have dinner there. And what a cool name, right?
Is Brennans’ still in business? Their Crab Benedict was worth the trip!
@@sandragruhle6288 Brennan's will ALWAYS be in business.
i wish you had eaten at brennan's in new orleans, nice tour ty
I will def be going to Brennan’s next time. I just got their cookbook recently. Couldn’t go everywhere in this one weekend but I’ve gotten a lot of tips in the comments for next time. 🥰 Thanks for yours!
Thanks for your kind words! 💓
excellent hotel choice.
keith houin Thank you! I stalk this hotel on Instagram now. 😬
Glad you had a great time!
Thanks! I had the best time making this video and I think I will do more travel videos bc they seem to really help people!
You went to some really great places! But I was looking forward to a fried shrimp po’ boy.
Acme had them!
I agree with you, acme of dragos for sure.
Always get one of the ice cream daiquiri at the gazebo cafe.
Mr Bs and didnt have the BBQ shrimp?
Best Chargrilled Oysters imo City Cafe Baton Rouge.
Next time, I will get it! Promise. Is City Cafe in New Orleans or Baton Rouge?
Great to see covid has been eradicated in New Orleans....
I’m def going to bring your suggestions on the next trip!
I thoroughly enjoyed you guys! Thank you so much for this!
Great video. Super informative! And that sandwich looked DELICIOUS.
If that sandwich was any better I would have had to call the cops.
Terrific fun!
I just arrived at New Orleans and this video is super helpful for exploring the foods. Thank you . Awesome job!!!
This was a great video
First timer. Great video and recommendations. I'm a foodie with a Culinary Arts background. I was there in October, but friends we're more interested in stripper clubs. If you haven't tried The Country Club do so. It's kinda out of the way but GREAT Sunday Brunch. We were there when the Saints had a home game. You two should schedule a trip back when they have a home game. It's worth the experience...👍
Thanks for the tip! I have not ever heard of the country club there! I will research that for next time. Do you kow the name? I'm glad you had a nice time and next time you should go with another foodie!! 😝 - Sarah
The Urban Cowgirl, that is the name.

Very interesting on your channel
Can't believe I'll be there for the first time in just under a week!
HOW DID IT GO?!?!?!?!
Yes the oysters are amazing.
Chicken fried steak, hash browns and eggs sounds great 👍
I've never been to Cafe Beignet in the morning or when I'm sober. I have however been to the Bourbon street location a few times at like 11:30 pm for drunken snacks. I hardcore crave pastry after a few drinks.
Ha! Yes!!! Me too. Usually at home it's Whataburger. 😜 Thanks for stopping by Lily. Def will be going to Cafe du Monde next time.
Wow! Leaving frigid northern il for NOLA tomorrow! Can't wait!
OMG, how did it go!?
It was an awesome trip! The food was incredible second to none! Got hooked on hurricanes and daiquiri too can't wait to go back!
I have to know where you got the Brisket t-shirt!
It's at Target in the men's t-shirt area! It's also on their website. :)
That Texas breakfast he ate looks good
I smiled a little TOO wide when I saw Daisy Dukes!!😁😁 I used to go there regularly (2-3 times a week) when I was working down there
It was the closest place to our hotel open at that time of night/early morning! :)
This is an amazing video 👍🏾
What they failed to mention at Pat's was the Piano bar. Go there
Omelettes at The Clover on Bourbon Street.
The BEST omelettes anywhere!!!!
There's other places that sell benigns besides CDM. My Mother used to make it for us on Sundays
Excellent food!
Thank you, New Orleans is such a dream, they make it easy!
How did you eat that much food in 2 days? You’re legendary.
Oh. You Can Eat that much and then some there. The Food is Absolutely amazing and Addicting.
Well we would go somewhere and order their most famous thing and a drink and then head to the next place, sharing each dish as we went! You can do it easy with two people. I mean I am a chef though so I live to eat. :D
@@theresa7162 Agreeeee! :D
You did Drago's wrong... the Metairie Drago's is the original and their ersters (oysters) are exponentially better than the ones downtown in the Hilton...
We’ve been messaged that From locals we were hanging out with the night before. We will correct that on the next video!
Pm if you want to meet up next time.
@@TheUrbanCowgirl I will happily give you guys pointers for the next time you hit NOLA, ironically, I'm currently living in Dallas at the moment for work. I am NOLA born/raised though.
@@noladr We live in Dallas. :P
Most tourists don’t rent cars .. so it’s a Hassle to go to drago’s in Metairie and it’s not that big a difference!
daisy dukes is so good but now it’s only open to 2 pm
Thanks for updating us!
I'm ready to go back
Take me with youuuuuu!
Yummmmm 😋 great video
Thank you! We had fun sharing our adventure!
The only place to get good beignets is Cafe du Monde.. Drago's is the best to for Char-Broil oysters.
Lived my whole life in Louisiana and never heard of the carousal bar lol.
Britt Byler it was the coolest bar ever. Expensive, but I’m glad I had the experience. You should go!!!
@@TheUrbanCowgirl not 21 sadly
Cant wait til next month 😊
Did you go?! How was it?
Not yet we leave on Feb 12 we're taking the Amtrak should arrive to new Orleans on the 14 it's a two day ride am so excited can't wait to get there we're staying til the 19th
Central Grocery muffeleta not as good as it used to be. Right next door is Progress Grocery and sometimes theirs is better and they still sell the bulgarian feta straight from the cask! wow thats the sh-t!
I would love to see if New Orleans has a place that serves turtle soup
Karen Hargis they do, I went there a few months ago and I saw it on multiple menus
Bon temp cafe, best turtle soup and bread pudding as for local inexpensive traditional New Orleans cuisine
Thank you
Karen Hargis, Brennan’s or Commander’s Palace have great turtle soup. A little pricey but scrumptious
Galatoire's - very pricy restaurant, but delicious.
Try Arnaud. Bad meal and bad service!!!
Should have gone to Molly's at 2 a.m. Wrong place for Beignets - Café Du Monde is the original and best.
keith houin Oh well that will be first on my list for next time! I’m already talking to 3 different friends about going. I think I’ve almost got my friend Jaime convinced that she won’t lose me on bourbon bc she can track my Apple Watch! 😂😂🤘🏻
@@TheUrbanCowgirl - when you go back, message me. I'll tell you some hidden gems and deals.
Yeah but the lines are shorter and apparently they’re just as good as cafe du monde
keith houin just had them at both places two weeks ago, Cafe Du Monde was far better, lighter
@@khouin1 Ok I think I am set to go back in May! Where should I go? DO you have Instagram? I am @Urbancowgirl if you want to talk on there!
I’m headed down in a month and a half and allergic to shellfish. Wonder how that’s gonna go? Lol
Uh oh! Is someone going to Mardi Gras?! Don't worry, you'll be too drunk to notice the anaphylactic shock. :P Just kidding, you can eat chicken and sausage gumbo, boudin balls, red beans and rice, creole fried chicken, pralines and beignets! You're going to have a great time!
The Urban Cowgirl I’m actually going for a wedding right after Mardi Gras. Hopefully the crowds won’t be as big!
Did you still get to go?
nordette yeah we went the end of February and was a great time.
Covid
You missed Pascals Manale! It's on Napoleon. BBQ Shrimp! Close to Tulane.
I'm taking notes! We will be headed back in May and we will make it happen! Thanks. :D
Loved Pascal's back in the day. I also used to hang at Charlie's Steak House, right behind them on Dryades.
Thanks!
THANK YOU!
I'm digging his Mercedes cap
He works for Mercedes. :)
The food seems so tasty 😍
It was! It truly is such an iconic American food city!!!
@@TheUrbanCowgirl Hope to try it one day !
Far better places to eat but OK suggestions for a quick, unplanned New Orleans trip. EXCEPT Daisy Dukes; tourist trap.
I didn’t think it was possible to prefer Acme over Drago’s.
Kevsky They tell me I went to the wrong one. We’re gonna fix that soon. 🤓
Man I went to the hood for food. It was actually cheaper and better try the Green book or just ask around.cafe café Du monde is not it I tried it didn’t like it at all went to chef D’s it was the best food also coco hut For jerk chicken it is amazing
Thank you for the recommendations! We’ll check those places out the next time we’re there!
The carousel bar was fun, but the drink were BLAH.
1.Are Hubigs pie still in business?
2. Is French still used for the PoBoys?
Black Ceasar I heard that Hubigs is reopening soon-using original recipes and the wax-paper packaging.
@@lucyburr5516 thanks for responding
Bucketlist 👌🏻
Dang ! she put that whole slice of bread in her mouth!!! WOW !!
Yes, I noticed. Yuck.
Look people I'm from Lauderdale the Ruby Slipper is where it's at you hear me?!
I'll go everyday for all 3 meals if i could.
It'll be a waiting process but worth it, go to the casino like we did.
And they'll take your info to call you when a table is available.
And a place called "Who Dats or We Dats" if you have a wing and fries or fried food fetish. And their drinks are fye (fire)!
You want to know how to make ppl jealous and mad at you at the same time? After you get on your plane either to go home or your next destination and you pull out your Central Grocery Bag and open that package holding your Muffuletta Sandwich! Ppl start talking and either say to who ever they are with DAMN IT, why didn't we do that or look at you like a New Orleans Travel Professional. lol
Also, if you give the muffuletta a few hours, the oils from the olive salad get in the bread more and they are even more delicious!
Nooo as A Native, it's Cafe' Du Monde' the local Favorite and starter of that donut, it's right next door to that place across from Jackson Brewery wrong landmark the History is Cafe Du Monde', sorry...YESS Pat O Brien's for the Hurricane and Cocktails...
I knew I was going to get crap for that. :P We def have things like that in Texas where it's such a part of the community that I refuse to go anywhere else. I will def try cafe du monde next time!
March 2021 and Covid-19 wonder what it looks like now
You went to Daisy Duke's as your first spot? That's the place we go when it's 4am and we're too drunk to care about how food tastes.
There was absolutely no other place open! 😂
What are you talking about flour on oysters? That’s Parmesan cheese lol not flour.
Maybe it was just a weird order and that's not how they usually are but I much prefer straight compound butter and melted parm.
these are all very touristy places.
