    Gentlemen - My son is Autistic. The puzzle piece Rolex speaks to me in so many ways. The day wheel signifies my son's mood or my mood at any given time. The date wheel signifies all the different things that my son might be thinking....but I Never know. I absolutely love this piece and think it speaks to MANY Autism parents out there. Is it for everyone...absolutely not. Is it for me....100%. I would feel so proud and excited so to have this on my wrist. Frankly, every time I look at it this reminds me of the 18 now 19 years I have had with my Son and all the different emotions we have gone through. There have been some really big highs and big lows. But I would not change a moment of them. Thank you for listening and LOVE your content.

      this comment is so wholesome. wear it with pride and may it serve you well. i fully relate to your situation since my brother is also autistic spectrum. it's lots of downs but they will never overshadow the ups. thank you for that comment. did you buy the watch straight from AD? I was thinking about getting it now because of your comment, but I don't think getting 1 rolex from my AD will put me anywhere close to the list.

    I'm obviously biased owning it, but I think the 116520s are highly undervalued and just generally under appreciated because everyone seems to flock to its predecessor the 16520s because of the Zenith movement and its successor - the ceramic Daytonas 116500/126500s

    Nearly NO watch is a great investment 😢. Collectively watches like any other product should and will loose value once out of the box .

    I heard Christian's comment that the colored balloon dial on the OP and the puzzle Day Date are coming at the end of the run of colored dials, and it triggered my recollection of something that used to be done in the manufacturing of fountain pens mostly with celluloid (1940s-50s) but also with hard rubber (1920s-30s). At the end of the day there would be scrap pieces of material left over and instead of throwing them out manufacturers (Omas for sure, but maybe including Waterman, Parker, etc.) would combine and mix them to create an "end of day" pen. If you know anything about vintage pens, these colorful pens were sought after and unique and with a following amongst collectors. Fast forward to this parallel with the Rolex dials and we see how history repeats itself, but differently and with just enough connection to the past.

    The 41mm Rolex turquoise op that was going for 45 is not the one that’s going for 15 now. That is the 36. The 41 is going for 25 at minimum and up. Furthermore, the 41 is discontinued but the 36 isn’t.

    The Tokyo 2020 Olympics (and Paralmpics) did actually happen - the following year. All the mktg and branding of the event and the sponshorships stayed the same though, just like this watch the Oylmpics were still branded "Tokyo 2020" because of obvious economical reasons (too expensive to re-brand everything).

    I've never been disappointed when I buy exactly what I want (value)... despite what others value. I believe this "investment" mindset is a result of the exponential deceleration of money value. And folks racing to acquire "ubiquitous value" (assets), within a debt -based (fiat) currency leads to these ridiculous bubbles. (NFT's...Really... ?)

    What's the problem with aluminum bezels? I hate ceramic bezels. I have a Submariner 14060m from 2003 and the bezel has no scratches. Alot of these new collectors are just soo worried about scratches every thing is scratches. Watches are going to scratched it's inevitable. Ceramic bezels have no character whatsoever

    • @mutedmutiny9542
      @mutedmutiny9542 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s nothing wrong with them but in terms of durability they’re not really comparable to ceramic. Obvuously a lot of people like the worn look that you get from an aluminum bezel and you can’t get that from ceramic, but ceramic won’t ever wear or need to be replaced like aluminum will, at least not in a human’s lifetime.

    • @ay8987
      @ay8987 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Missed the boat in assessing the impact of the doubling of Rolex production over the next 3-5 years. More availability of new will impact the used market unless they’re truely limited production. The value of plain secondary market Daytonas will take a big hit when you only have to wait 6-12 months to get a new one, and no longer have to wait for a GMT or Sub-Date.

      I have a Day Date, ref 18078, yellow gold, with the bark finish on the center links of the President bracelet and the machined bezel, silver dial. It's definitely not as blingy as the Day Dates with the polished center links and fluted bezel with the champagne dial. Understated is how most would describe it. I really don't care if it ever becomes collectible as I don't plan to ever part with it.

    Im a tiffany blue 36MM OP owner and while I feel guilty about the price I paid (don't worry it was not $40K) I felt that I had no recourse as all attempts to sign up for the watch resulted in dismissal from several Rolex authorized dealers. I waited over 2 years for this watch, and that feedback I received from sales reps was that even though its an entry level model, there won't be more than a handful made in that color per year. Since I'm not a celebrity or spending $100K at a boutique, the odds of me getting the blue OP was essentially null. Even the reps that were not rude about it were telling me realistically I couldn't get it. It's very off-putting when a brand treats you this way, and makes me wonder what the point of making their entry level models so fun and eye catching if its not to attract new hobbyists.

    Tried to get the Daytona. Obviously didn’t. I like it - a lot - and I’d like to own one to wear it. But I just don’t see $150k of value there. Others might, and that’s cool. But at MSRP/RRP, I think the price is fair. Beyond that, it’s just not special enough - imo - to command what it’s commanding. It rather have a Patek at that price

    Been seeing multiple comments psycho-ing others to think that watches shouldn't be "hyped" an investment, but what's wrong with wanting to wear or simply OWN something that doesn't at least lose value or even better, have some gains as a bonus if you made the right choice? So do we just blindly buy things that costs tens/hundreds of thousands in the name of "love", "like","fancy" or "pure hobby/collection" and forgo the fact most of us are not that well off to purchase multiples? Comeon, Actual fact is that everything can be a medium for investment/trade as a product, do not see what's the purpose of such comments in the luxury world today. Pointless.

I speculate that the kids who grew up with these TH-cam fads like five nights at Freddy’s and Garden of BanBan will look at these watches and get nostalgia. If I had the time and money I would bet on this.

    I respectfully disagree on your take on the OP 41 “ tiffany “ . Here is why: the OP 41 stella colors Yellow, red and turquoise where produced for exactly 1 year and 2 months before being discontinued, and during covid where production was decreased. Imagine the limited number of these available worldwide. Based on the 700,000 units said to be produced during covid yearly and over 400 references in the catalog. You can easily make the case that no more than 5000 “tiffany” OP 41 exist ( if not less) hence scarcity will eventually keep the price up, especially that its part of a collection of 7 OP 41 ( 8 with Celebration) just my 2 cents… oh and the OP 41’s current market value is no less than 25K for an unworn example

    An entertaining vudeo but what people 50 years ago thought will be collectable now is not what is. Many of the things that are collectable now are collectable as there aremt many left in good condition as they were used properly and not safed

    I have to disagree on the puzzle dial. I really like puzzle Day Date. The Day Date is probably my favourite watch. The use of enamel and bright colours really feels like a modern take of the Stella dials. I do think that the day and date wheel’s are a little corny.
    I will say this my favourite Day date is the onyx dial with no indicies. The dial of that watch makes it quite useless in terms of telling the time. I find day windows written in Arabic, Chinese or Spanish so cool and I’d personally get one even though I wouldn’t be able to read the day on it. I think the puzzle day date is to the day date what the rainbow bezel is to the Daytona. Entirely pointless and counterproductive to the design of the watch and that is cool.
    I will only grow to dislike the watch if it’s not limited and Rolex does the emoji thing in more releases. I do think it’s a classic in the future, especially if it is as universally hated as it is being shown as being in the watch enthusiast community.
    I also agree that this is probably the start of Rolex offering enamel in their day date going forward.

    The emoji (puzzle) DD is my favorite new release of 2023. It is a giant FU to collectors ho take everything too seriously. This hobby should be more fun and less about making Benjamins. Love the channel.

    Just like Al Pacino said to the salesman in "The Scent of A Women" when he was test driving the Ferrari 308 -- The eighties are over, these aren't flying off the shelves anymore.
    Now see the 2022's and 2023's are over....nothing is exploding in value anymore.

    Anyone buying watches for investment only is a knucklehead. How many Sub, Yacht Master, GMT Master owners actually use the functions of the pieces? None. Pretend divers, sailors and pilots wearing “dig me” time pieces they don’t even appreciate. Give me a DateJust 36 (wearing mine now) ANY day. I DO own a Sub and Omega Seamasters BUT I was a commercial and rescue diver for much of my life. They represent a part of my DNA. I think you guys do a great job with your content but I am really tired of the Rolex hype.

    White gold is just plain dumb other than d fluted bezel on a datejust, yellow and red/pink r cool. There I said it, steel, platinum and silver are harder and natural silver in color, so why bother?
