Guys I don’t get to see my friends a lot because of work but listening to you and seeing the banter makes me feel like being part of your journey. Really glad there’s a channel like this
Surprising to hear about the Solarbeat being discontinued in the US market. Cartier’s EU website has had them restocked twice in the last 30 days so guess we don’t have to worry??? 🤷♂️
Bought my wife a beautiful gold Omega manual wind with build in gold bracelet, almost like a milanese but more intricate. Cost me about £700 here in the UK. Stunning vintage piece. Wish I could find something like that for myself but mens stuff is always infintely more expensive. Great video this week guys really enjoyed the insights.
I personally like the Piaget Polo and decided one day to visit a local AD to inquiry about it. The AD is a multi-brand store, not just Piaget. Funny thing was that the salesman was himself wearing a Polo chrono. I asked him what was his wearing experience and what are some cons about it. He liked the watch, wearing almost daily (and you could see that), and the biggest con from his perspective was definitely the bracelet. I agreed, he let me try it on and the bracelet wasn't that comfortable, and even visually not so good without tapering.
Back in October I got a Zodiac sea wolf 53 skin from 2015 as a gift from a friend. After about 3 or 4 months the darn thing broke! The craziest part is I left a comment on a Facebook page about it, and the brand director reached out and got it fixed. Zodiac has me as a future firsthand customer based on that experience alone
Apparently it's not just you, many ppl online complained their sea wolf exploded, and the brand director has reached out to them. That's a good thing but the watch shouldn't have done that in the first place. Im interested in a super sea wolf but afraid to get one that'll explode.
@@MlkXiu he told me straight up that they discontinued the model I have because of the consistent movement issues, and they redesigned the movement (I’d assume he meant tightening up tolerances). Mine has the STP 1-11, and you easily feel the difference in how happy the watch is just being hand wound or setting the time. I’d say that they seem safe today, and I have every intention of buying new just to support the director and what he is trying to do. I got the vibe he truly believes in the brand in the week or so we were in direct communication.
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 seems like most of those issues are related to older products 🤷🏻♀️. Still a mark on the reputation, but I’m willing to take the risk if the brand is willing to stand behind the product if I have any issues
I lost my passion, sold my watch collection. I now have 3 watches - Seiko SARB 033,035,037. Waiting for something to get me excited again - but it will never be another Rolex.
Wearing my Tag Solargraph and was happy to see it pop up! It is cool in person too. I also have a Cartier Solarbeat and can say it’s still available (in small at least) in the U.K..
Okay, might be my favorite watch video of all time. "A large portion of the watch community is turning 3." Priceless! We'll see how many people make it another decade, or two, or three. Especially when they realize that it has only been a short while since you haven't "taken a bath" on any watch you bought and you have to buy them for the love of the art not for investment purposes.
If you have not done it yet, could you provide some guidance on how a person can develop and refine their taste in watches. Not which watches, but instead ways to get past the watch world noise and zero in on what style it is that makes a persons watch desire tick, so to speak. I am new to the world and it seems like everything I see distracts me.
Boring materialist explanation for the renewal of interest in small gold watches: Guys shop for steel Rolexes, see the price, and then think: all that money, just for steel? Also, some of the smaller gold (and gold-filled/plated, if your budget doesn't stretch) vintage watches are as good as they ever were for just normal wear around town, with a surprising number of looks/outfits. Your operating environment isn't a deep-sea oil rig, so why lug around a Sub or a Seadweller? A lot of the old style watches are comfortable and useful and they'll make you smile when you check the time.
Agree 100% with the Piaget comments...I love that watch, but hate the bracelet. I do like the rubber strap alternative they launched a couple years ago.
I totally get it your comments on women and watches. My wife’s Rolex is way more expensive and niche than mine, and I’m stoked every time she wears it.
That vintage Monte Carlo is beautiful and love the history I only wish the current Tudor Monte Carlo came with another movement, besides the piggyback chronograph movement. I even take a Valjoux or give it the new chronograph movement Tudor uses
I feel like the darker haired one keeps saying in the 80s rich guys wore Cellinis. Nobody ever wore Cellinis. Outside of the overly flamboyant, they wore Datejusts, Presidents, Omegas, and Pateks.
In terms of rarity one could argue that AP QP’s are actually quite common as AP alone accounted for more than 50% of the perpetual calendar wrist watch production in the world up to the 80s when the likes of IWC and Blancpain got in on this complication
It is unfortunate about the Cartier Solar Beat. If no one had liked it to begin with and sales were bad, that would have one thing. But it was a really neat and relevant idea that had many Cartier enthusiasts very excited. I'm sorry that supply chain issues were the cause of its demise, and I hope that Cartier considers reissuing it when the time is right.
I found the coolest watch please check out the Ebel Voyager World Timer. The one i picked up came of bracelet with the silver world map on the dial. The size is great at 38.5mm and relatively thin, wears like a dream. I believe the watch was made in the mid to late 90’s and retailed for around $5000.00 Picked it for $1000 as new full kit even the un signed card as I believe this watch was new old stock.
Maybe, just maybe it’s about time to have a core collection, let’s say 3 watches that you love so much that never go away!😉 I’m saying this because I had a 3 watch collection: Rolex explorer; omega speedmaster JDM edition; Cartier Santos. I started to feel the need to have some colorful and different watches and I sold the Omega and the Cartier. I regret it immensely. There was no need. You’ll get your Omega back and sell the Grand Seiko. 🥂
Every watch I purchased was something I tried on and thought ... meh I will just try it on.. not really my style.... then I tried it on and was like waaaaaiiittt a second.
I’d have to disagree, Rolex waitlist on sports model existed far beyond the recent explosion. Watch enthusiast always say Rolex alternative because Rolex is always the bar to meet. Their models are timeless and honestly the general population still yearns for Rolex. We may not but the people desire it and still demand it. The largest watch brand in the world for a reason and will always be. You can’t touch the Crown.
@@BobbyDazzler888 I’m 1000% sure if Piaget wasn’t paying Michael b. Jordan he’d be wearing a Rolex. All these watches you see celebrities wearing is because they are paid and if they weren’t they would go get their nautilus, oak, or Rolex. Really that simple
Sorry Rolex goes through trends, unfortunately it’s on a little downward trend right now. I own a few and like them, but a little over a decade ago I purchased a Submariner and a Sky-dweller for well under MSRP from my local AD. At that time there was no shortage of stock only a shortage of interest. I’m sure Rolex will gain popularity again like it usually does every 10- 20 years.
Imo. Grand Seiko is the new Rolex. Innovative. Creating stuff on the level of holy trinity but for half the price. And never afraid to listen to their fans/clients to improve. I've converted.
It makes me upset that I do not know watches well enough to comprehend the criticism of not just the Piaget Bracelet; but even criticism of Grand Seiko Bracelets. I think the Piaget is phenomenal looking watch and a good Patek alternative. I would proudly where it. But for $25k? No….12k yes
i hate Christian's snobbery sometimes, but there is no doubt he's one of the first person on the internet, who's pushing flamboyant gold watches, YEARS before everyone else did. He was into YELLOW GOLD watches, while it was so uncool to love them
Tastes informed by the older generations, especially older generations of your ethnicity, is a real thing. I used to never care about Rolex. Then Hodinkee did their interviews with Jimmy O. Yang and Ronny Chieng, and they both taked about two tone Datejusts and how they associated it with successful Asians from when they wre kids. All of sudden, my genetic memory woke up and remembered all of the successful uncles wearing two tone Datejusts in the 80’s. At that moment, a two tone Datejust became my grail. Not to be purchased when I have the funds for it, but when I achieve my professional goals.
Christian, you def changed the vintage watch game for the better..or worse? Better cause you showed true passion and you’re very informative. Worse, cause now peeps are on the vintage game and it’s making harder for us true watch geeks to get a good piece.
I think Christian is correct about being a pioneer, but I think the biggest point is that he's just wearing what he likes. Not trying to set trends just for the sake of it

How can a watch brand people can't buy stay relevant? Where is the next generation supposed to come from? "This is the watch my dad had" works, "This is the watch dad never could buy." wont work.
