The secret sauce on the Caffeine Shad is the air bubble in the tail. No other fluke-style plastic has this. Not only helps keep the lure horizontal but undulates while hovering.
I caught a several smallmouth on the hover rig today using the Berkeley flat worm but I have all the amazing baits from Nikko that I’ll for sure be trying soon!! Thanks for the informative videos every suggestion you make on baits to try or methods have always produced fish for me!
I have been using it on the geecrack bellows Shad. It takes a little practice to get it rigged but once you do it is lights out. All the ribs move and the tail has a quiver that drives the bass Crazy.
I’ve caught a few on the Power Stinger too. But another Powerbait lure that I haven’t seen mentioned is the Gilly. 90 size specifically. It’s a little tricky to rig but like you were saying about the difficulty with flukes, you just have to make sure to stay in the meat of the bait and not into the hollow section at all. Best part is at the top of a jerk, the bait pauses upright for a split second before turning into its fall. Caught 2 bedding bass on consecutive casts last weekend without shredding the bait before breaking off on a snag. But this is definitely my favorite way to rig a Gilly 90. Oh, and I need one of those hats. Please take my money.
What size are you using Witt that Gilly! I bought bout 5 packs of those when they first came out and got frustrated with all the extra things you had to do to rig them .do they are sitting in a dusty shelf, you rigging through the top fin?
Appreciate the content @mattstefan And congrats on the win! I was jus watching a #zman Australia and they’ve been fishing basically that same hook on a 2.75-3..75” grub the past two years maybe more, a lil differs but a lot of the same
Congrats on the hover rig doing so well! I'm rooting for you! The hover rig has out produced a wacky rig for me this year. Fun stuff. I have been using the Strike King half shell with good results. Also caught a good one on the Berkley pit boss last weekend.
Just got my rig heads in from you a few day’s ago, looking forward to using a few different baits on it this weekend, I know it’ll work well offshore but I think it’s going to shine skipping docks since it has the brush guard
So happy for your success as always Matt, I’ve been using the Nikko baits for a few years and I have the Zaza Leech, but the minnow is a new one to me so thanks for all of these bait tips.
Hey Matt. I really like the hover rig. I picked some of the light size up and just had success on it. I just spent a few days in Iron River Michigan. I was throwing a small tube on it. Specifically the 2.875” sentinel tube. I sent you a pack last year. The tubes have a 1/4”of plastic on the tip. The hook just barely comes out the bottom. I had largemouth and pike crushing it in clear water. Lots of fun. Looking forward to small hooks and heavier weights. Stay Fishy!!
Hey Matt thanks for the video I think you and Johnny got something different and something that works great. Smallmouth like baits that glide . Thanks again and God bless.
I bought some of each size. I have had a difficult time getting the front of the weight inserted correctly and have torn up a bunch of plastics. The ones I did get In worked great. I was using Depps Bullflat and it worked really well and caught fish immediately. Going to tear up some more plastics until I figure out the correct way but I can’t wait to tear my buddy up this weekend using them.
Ordered a few packs of each size that should be here on Saturday. I'll definitely try them out with the berkley stinger, I have some just sitting around because I didn't like them to much as a chatterbait trailer. I want to try them with the missile baits ned bombo or quivers and the zman trick shotz or finesse shadz
Savage Gear dragontail Slug 3in also works very well. And it's that allows textile plastic also. And a 2.8 G crack bellowed Gill. Expensive but works like a charm
Thanks for sharing this with us and I already bought some of these and can't wait to try these when I am not soo busy. Your channel is really awesome Matt!! :)
I love this rig I’ve been messing around with it myself here on chickamauga. It’s a great rig that hasn’t seen much action yet in the fishing community. These videos keep giving me more baits to try, keep the videos coming and keep winning in MLF!
🍺Hover rig can catch bass with numerous baits. I get 45 degree glide with the OSP Do Live SS Gill 3.7” Dark Cinnamon Blue Flake but in natural light it changes to green pumpkin black flake. The TK Twister in Nima Ebu/4.5” also fishes well.🤠
I love these segments. I want to try every suggestion. Have u tried it on an eerie darter? The hat is dope! Give ur members early access to the 1st run so we can flip them when u and Johnny take over Bass Pro!
I vote for 10 or 12 packs of your jig. I start to panic if I lose one and only have a couple remaining. My standard arsenal is a Texas rig, a Midwest Finesse jig, and your hover jig. And thanks for showing me that I could build my own fishing rods.
I received my Core Tackle hooks in the mail the other day, but the weather is not going to be in my favor for testing this weekend. Matt, I've used the Core rigs for the last two days and have caught several fish using various plastic baits. The downside is that most of them are one and done. The size of the lead ribs simply destroy them. They seem to be good for some folks, but not for me
Those nikko baits are good. The hellgramite gets smashed by smallmouth. Ive done good on largemouth on the tadpole too. Ill try those nikko minnows on the hover rig heads
I use the Hover Rig hooks in tubes. You can poke the tip thru the front if you want. It has great, erratic movement. It will spiral and suddenly dart or drop.
BIG TIP: You can actually use the Core Tackle Hover Rig jig hook on any fluke with a hook slot.....BY USING A COMPATIBLE SOFT PLASTIC GLUE, ie. Mend-It, Lock Tight Gel, etc... AND 4 0R 5 CLOTHESPINS!
Powerstingers and flukes are absolutely killer on the hover rig! I often rig them on their side, especially the Powerstinger. It adds to the glide and how well it skips.
Actually the Zaza leach was the first bait I rigged up after I received my hover rig hooks back in March. It just seemed like an obvious choice. I've tried the Powerbait Power Stinger too and it works well.
The larger hook on the OSP Dolive Beaver Magnum. Yep the big boy! Works great. Make sure you practice on something else first. I coat the weight in Mend it first as well.
Have you thought about trying the Berkeley Gilly on the hover rig? I think the small or medium would work good. Yes it would be swimming and gliding on its side but what do dying bluegill do? 🤷♂️
Great video! Nikko makes some amazing baits! and they're almost indestructible. Looking forward to seeing your jigs on tackle warehouse. Too bad they're not available this weekend
I haven't had a chance to fish mine yet, just got it in today but- it looks like a tube would work really well on this rig. When you rig a solid body bait do you just go in wherever you want the hook eye to stick out and insert the whole rig that way? Pulling the head out, up, and over the point on front of the rig?
Hey Matt, next time out I plan to try the Realis Finder Shad "3. It's got a lot of "rock & roll" action. Has anyone here tried the finder shad out on the hover rig?
I should have gotten some of these before I went to guntersville and Chickamauga. I will definitely get a few before I go back to Chick later this year. Got to get some redemption on the big on that broke off yesterday morning.
Want to hear something funny? The 3/64 core tackle hover rig head fits into "the Flying Lure" like it was made for it. It even fits into the rig holes that the bait comes with.
@@MattStefanFishing Dead serious man. I'm going to give it a shot. It's basically a flat lure so it should glide nicely. I've had a pack of these things hanging around since I was in high school. It would be great to finally find something they're good for.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I can also imagine using the rig to tie black marabou or other hair jigs that could be a little heavier for casting distance and depth while still maintaining a very streamlined profile. Hmmm.
So Matt, is there any possibilities of having a Hover Rig a little lighter than your current 3/64? Great product and I love using them! Thanks again for another great video!!!
i bought some of those hooks and was wondering if you ever thought about making the weed guard like what is on a jig. the wire seems to get pushed out of place and i got hung up a lot and had to break off. just a thought
Just ordered a pack of both sizes. Looking forward to receiving them and putting them to use. I'm more of a power fisherman than finesse so I don't use my spinning setup very much. However I noticed in your video, The Hover Rig Saves The Day, you were using casting gear. I'm probably gonna be using the 1/8oz more than the 3/64oz so I'll be using casting gear as well. That being said, what power and action rod do you use and gear ratio? Thanks for the informative videos. Have a great day and God bless.
@MattStefanFishing got my Core Tackle Hover Rigs in a few days ago. Got to try out the 1/8oz with my 7'3 MHF Favorite Defender rod 7.5:1 Lews Hack Attack reel with an X-Zone 3.5" purple shadow Adrenaline Craw Jr. yesterday 7/12/23. Caught 2 dinks. But it worked where nothing else I threw did. I worked it somewhat how I do swimbaits and also kinda like a jerk bait. Either way seemed to work. Gonna try different plastics next time I get to go out. Love the super sharp hook. Not much effort to set. It's definitely gonna be a part of my arsenal now.
Great Video and TIPs. We have been doing well getting bit over Brush Piles on Lanier with the 1/8oz Hoover rig and Yamamoto D-Shad. I have posted a few shorts on my channel showing the action as it’s insane. When the spotted bass get on the brush and won’t come up for TW, this set up is going to be amazing this summer! We would love to get a sponsorship to help grow the product for you guys!!! 👍👊😁
Hey Matt, fishing up north of Sturgeon bay next week around Sister Bay. Any suggestions on best baits for this time of year? I usually fish Ned rigs but looking for other baits. Thanks, love your channel.
I like the nuke punch, rage punch bug, speed craw, and the 4" bacon rind on the 1/8 ounce. The 3/64 ounce I like zoom tiny fluke, Zoom Fat albert, Rage tail grub, roboworm zipper, zoom trick worm on the hover rig. Also try the Nikko zazza helgramite on both sizes you will love it.
Truth of the matter is if it is a soft plastic lure it will probably work on the hoover hook. Congrats on getting it on tackle warehouse.. I've said before I think you will be surprised at the amount you Sell. Looking forward to some new sizes and to give you a great review on Tackle warehouse. Hopefully they put your video on there about how to rig it.
I’ve put off ordering because I wasn’t sure how to rig em and then I saw your vid on it so I ordered four packs after watching the vid can’t wait …, and I can’t believe you’ve never heard of nikko lol.
This idea literally just popped into my head but a lizard. If theirs enough meat on them to rig it I think It would glide really well with all the appendages. Now if only we could get the core tackle rig up here in Canada! 🤞
Zoom centipede has caught a bunch for me on the hover rig. One nice thing is that when the front of the bait gets mangled after a few fish, you can flip it around and rig it through the other end and keep catching em on the same bait a while longer.
Like the zaza leach but am having a hard time getting the point of the hover rig in the bait. The rubber on this one is so tough the rig just wants to bounce back. What is the secret to this? I took my hook and tried to put a hole in the bait to get it started.
spark shad, hazedong shad, one up minnow, fish roller, mylar minnow, nikko hellgramite ( large version). Please make some finesse versions of your hover rig too, maybe 1/64 and 1/96 it would just increase the amount of baits that can be used too. Dealing with nail weights and losing them with the bait if it rips off sucks. Lower weight can help with glide time as well so you get tons of flutter and shimmy and an almost "lazy swim" action depending on the bait.
🍺Thanks Matt. Originally the mind set was break even, personal use, and let others copy cat it. Now we may be heading down the numerous SKU’s , Tacklewarehouse road🤠. I always thought it had staying power because of how many baits can be used on it and it’s convenience. I predicted eventually a licensing deal with a National brand but that takes a strong patent to get the big 🤑. Hopefully that actually happens. Very excited for you guys.🙏Good luck.🤠
The secret sauce on the Caffeine Shad is the air bubble in the tail. No other fluke-style plastic has this. Not only helps keep the lure horizontal but undulates while hovering.

Nice!
Nikko Hellgramite. Both sizes. Very natural along the bottom of creeks especially. Smallmouth love them.
awesome!
Did really well the other day on the river. I was using the 3/64 ounce on a 4 inch zman jerk shadz and the smallmouth were killing it.
its a smallmouth killer!
One Ive played around with and caught fish is the smaller sized pit boss bit tear the out side flappers off and leave the two middle ones.
oh I like that idea!
I'm a huge fan of the hover rig. Matt and Hohnny have killed it with this. Love the Missile Baits Ned Bomb in PB&J. Great fun. Thanks Matt.

I am in love with the Hover Rig, a couple baits I use are a Pitboss and a Zoom Trick worm, lot of bites on these baits!!!
im in love with it as well!
Zoom trick rig is a long worm. Is that a problem on a hover rig , do they bite the end off alot?

Nikko is the real deal. I have had success with the ikango minnow and the leech. I wish Nikko had a larger tadpole for the hover rig.
they are cool baits!

having trouble getting the front end of the hover rig into the bait without breaking the plastic....any suggestions
dont pull hard more push the hook eye into the bait and the plastic rolls over the lead point
I’ve put off ordering because I wasn’t sure how to rig em and then I saw your vid on it so I ordered four packs after watching the vid can’t wait …, and I can’t believe you’ve never heard of nikko lol.
i have now!
This idea literally just popped into my head but a lizard. If theirs enough meat on them to rig it I think
It would glide really well with all the appendages. Now if only we could get the core tackle rig up here in Canada!
🤞
LOTW Sports HQ will have them any day!
@@MattStefanFishing awesome!
Makes the Yum crawbug glide like a dream with small twitches.
awesome!
Zoom centipede has caught a bunch for me on the hover rig. One nice thing is that when the front of the bait gets mangled after a few fish, you can flip it around and rig it through the other end and keep catching em on the same bait a while longer.
Nice!
What size caffeine shad
4/5 inch size
Like the zaza leach but am having a hard time getting the point of the hover rig in the bait. The rubber on this one is so tough the rig just wants to bounce back. What is the secret to this? I took my hook and tried to put a hole in the bait to get it started.
hmm. a prestarted whole would help
You should give the big bite baits bfe a try
i have and it works!
spark shad, hazedong shad, one up minnow, fish roller, mylar minnow, nikko hellgramite ( large version). Please make some finesse versions of your hover rig too, maybe 1/64 and 1/96 it would just increase the amount of baits that can be used too. Dealing with nail weights and losing them with the bait if it rips off sucks. Lower weight can help with glide time as well so you get tons of flutter and shimmy and an almost "lazy swim" action depending on the bait.
weve got a few smaller ones coming soon
🍺Thanks Matt. Originally the mind set was break even, personal use, and let others copy cat it. Now we may be heading down the numerous SKU’s , Tacklewarehouse road🤠. I always thought it had staying power because of how many baits can be used on it and it’s convenience. I predicted eventually a licensing deal with a National brand but that takes a strong patent to get the big 🤑. Hopefully that actually happens. Very excited for you guys.🙏Good luck.🤠
Im just excited to see where this goes!
I'll be throwing these from the bank, can't wait.
awesome!
Fish arrow flashy J. They are hollow and they are ultra realistic
