At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

    This looks like one of those beautiful fishing spots where you forget the business, throw out a float and a worm and sit down in the boat and just admire the beauty of nature.

    Great!! I love the ozark rig its gets bit and catches big ones. It would be great if it came in a stronger gauge hook and a tungsten version so it’s more compact. Nice Matt!

    I was using the ozark rig with a beaver style bait for smallmouth and the fish loved it. Only one problem I lost a lot of fish when they spit the hook. I finally started setting the hook slower and with a good snap and had better hookups. I’m a believer in the rig and will keep experimenting with it.

    This was great timing. I was going to ask you about this when we were going back and forth in our e-mails, but I figured I’d pestered you enough. I was having a similar issue. This is so obvious, I feel a little foolish for not figuring this out initially. For anyone else reading… If this, for whatever reason, isn’t working for you, try the Wacky Shot. The Wacky shot is every bit as much fun. Down here in Florida I had fish absolutely annihilating it, like it owed it money. GREAT baits. Thanks again, Matt!

    Thanks for the rigging tip. I saw a different TH-cam video demonstrating this. I was also tearing baits going in through the nose. If the bait is flat enough, like a gill style, you can just pop the line tie right through it.

    Absolutely love the Ozark Rig. Beaver bait, Swimming worm, Ribbon Tail, it is fantastic. I really like it with the Strike King Rage Series baits, The 4/0 1/8th oz works great with a rage Menace grub works great swimming it over and through grass on those blue bird days and when the Bass are eating small baitfish (you can use a Med to MH spinning rod and you will still get a great hookset). And the Rage Space Monkey swims perfectly with the 5/0 1/4 oz. Add a Core Tackle Swim Jig in the mix and you have 3 baits to alternate though to get those aggressive fish

Kyles a buddy of mine and he’s spent the summer the last two years living there for several months and knows it well but switched him for another local hammer. Hanks got all 10 in the top 60. Weights are always so tight there and day two will be very important for his team

    I pretty much forgot about the Ozark Rig as my first tournament of the year didn't set up well for it with the nasty weed cover we were fishing. Due to poor timing on when I am getting to fish the frog/toad bite has mostly been a flop so far for me this year. I am going to give the Ozark Rig rigged up when I go out in the morning. I was really hesitant to throw it in mylake because the pike were on a rampage last year, but that hasn't occurred this year.

    Hi Matt, I'm liking this rig. Haven't managed to get bit yet, but expect to this weekend. One comment is that I find casting, particularly skipping, that the bait will just slide up the line which changes the action and I need to push it down and try to get it forced onto the keeper. Maybe I'm not doing it right, but I'm thinking of adding a bobber stopper to help keep the bait on the hook. Do you think that works or is needed?

    • @MattStefanFishing

    The problem I have is that it’s does lock the bait. The bait just slides up before I even cast. Tried glue, that was a mess. What am I doing wrong?

    • @darkhorsefive0
      @darkhorsefive0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve only use the Ozark hook one time so far. Just got them. I had that happen too. I think it is due to stretching the plastic over the weight while rigging it. Makes the hole in the plastic bait too loose with some plastics and it doesn’t stay on the hook eye. Slides up like you said. Did it with me using a Reaction Spicy Beaver.
      I saw another comment under this video where someone said they thread the line through the plastic using a hook barb, then tie on. Then you would just slide the plastic down the line and onto the hook eye/shank.
      Doing that would make a smaller, tighter hole in the plastic and should take care of that issue. I’m going to try it next time I throw the Ozark.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hey Matt, thanks for this video. I bought some, and I'm thinking of using them in shallow rapids with lots of rocks. Well, if the river ever goes down. Do they get through rocks well? I could fish so many more places if so.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes they go thru rocks well because the bait stays horizontal and therefore doesn’t get into the small holes a vertical fallling bait does

    Loving the ozark rig and have been rigging the same as you show in this video but i still go through baits almost every catch. I have not been able to try the 1/4oz yet, mostly 1/8 and 3/16 but i see no way to rig a 3/8oz. It is so fat it just tears everything up. I have noticed you arent using it either. Is there something different that needs to be done with the 3/8? Any future possibilities on making them out of tungsten?

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m sorry to hear that. I definitely am not going through baits any faster than i do a Texas rig. Mine last multiple fish and don’t tear when rigging from the side. You can see that in my last Wednesday night video. I do like the 3/8 oz but prefer it for fishing deeper and bigger worms to get the side to side rocking motion on the fall. We are looking at tungsten options but it’s incredibly expensive and complicated process and doesn’t happen overnight since it all goes thru China

      @@MattStefanFishing I just tied an Ozark back on and rigged a Pitboss. I refined my rigging a little compared to my first time using it. It sits tighter to the shank than the Reaction Spicy Beaver did.
      I also looked at the Spicy Beaver again. It has a molded in protruding “ramp” on bottom of the nose of the bait. I think me rigging it a little too deep down the bait, combined with that molded in ramp, was the cause of my issue with the beaver on the Ozark. It was a “me” issue and not a rig issue, as usual. 🤷‍♂️🤣
