No your paying for the 2day free shipping, not the right to shop. You can shop without prime all day long... AND you get music, streaming, movies, TV etc
With prime membership you get more free shipping orders that are under $20 and all access to they're prime video TV streams. It is a privilege for that. Anyone outside the membership if they order over $20 then it's free shipping for most people or if someone orders under $20 they have to pay more for shipping and the video prime streams offer Freevee streams that have commercials through the movies/shows are free to non-members too. 😊 That's what I've learned so far with Amazon membership.
I think you are correct. I think the buyer-paid fees is not gonna last long. Buyers already have to pay sales tax and shipping on their purchases. If we had brick-and-mortar stores we'd have all kinds of overhead to pay before we saw any profit , so I compare the idea of paying platform fees to that as a seller. I didn't understand why Mercari made this change when they did it, and I still don't now that Posh is.
Stay safe!! I hope we get more no fees or lesser fees or SOMETHING here in the us. Everyone’s been telling me Mercari has slowed with making the buyers pay more but..knock on wood I’ve seen a huge spike in sales! I get a lot of lower offers but that’s ok, I know exactly what I’m getting etc. I am more likely to do bundle deals too knowing they are paying fees. I’ve also listed a lot of lower price items or smaller items on my Mercari for $3-5 and I have seen those flying off the “shelves”. 😂 it’s now worth it because it’s so quick and easy and there aren’t fees taken out so I don’t need to bundle a bunch to make it worth it.
For Mercari, in order to "balance out" what the buyer will pay, i just lower some of the prices i have on my shops. For example, if on eBay I'm selling something for $20 + $5 shipping, the buyer will pay $25 + fees But if I put the same item on Mercari, knowing even though I'M not paying the fees, the BUYER will, but mercari will get them anyway, I list the same item for $17 + the $4.99 shipping they offer. So the buyer is paying less or just about THE SAME as if they would on ebay. And that's helped my Mercari store alive.
@davidkelber3485 The issue is that's too complicated for buyers. They don't wanna do math. They just wanna buy and go. I feel for you though. And I hope it works out.
@@davidkelber3485that's because many people have stopped shopping on Mercari. I've purchased two things since the fees and I used to buy multiple times a week.
@@FernandoRR7 I don't shop at Costco because I don't have one near me anymore. But I do shop at Sam's Club because, like with Amazon, I get free shipping. I also get to buy in bulk for less money and they have products there that I can't get anywhere else in that size. So I'm getting something for the money I'm spending. Plus, I get a huge discount on the annual fee because of having a veteran in my household. I don't spend money on something unless I get something for it. If Amazon did not offer free 2-day shipping, I would not pay for Prime membership. Even then, Prime gives you a lot of other benefits for that membership fee. But never would I ever WALK into Macy's or Kohl's or Walmart or anywhere and expect to pay a percentage on top of my bill just for the privilege of walking into the store. It should be built into the price of everything I purchase, which is what every brick and mortar store does. It's also what most online retailers do unless they offer you a membership to have special benefits.
@@FernandoRR7well I don't know what happened to my reply, but I thought I had already responded to this but here goes again. I no longer shop at Costco because I know longer live by one. However, I do shop at Sam's Club because they also have free shipping, they have sizes of products I can only purchase there, and I get a great deal on the annual membership because of having a veteran in my household. If Amazon Prime did not order free shipping there's no way I would have it. They also offer additional benefits. There is no way I am WALKING into a Kohl's, Target, Walmart, Ross, Macy's, or any other store and paying for the privilege just to walk in the store. Brick and mortar stores build the cost of doing business into their items, as do online businesses. In fact, when I use my Target debit card, I get 5% off. I do a lot of price comparisons so if I can get it cheaper at Sam's Club, I will. Target, I'll go there if it's cheaper. But why in the world would I pay more than retail, a higher shipping rate (or shipping at all when I usually get it free), and tax on both of those combined AND a service fee AND a payment processing fee which is what Mercari is doing right now? I no longer buy on there unless I am absolutely desperate and even then, I'm going to buy it at retail or I will happily live without the item.
As a UK business seller it does feel that we bear the brunt of any financial changes eBay rollout: constant fee tweaks, positive changes for Private Sellers, etc. We also have the challenges of ever increasing postal costs and people being more careful in general due to the cost of living crisis. I actually started a full time job recently as it feels the writing is on the wall for small time businesses in general. One big bone of contention is that business sellers shoulder the costs of changes, and there is a perception that eBay feels they can continue to squeeze us. But there will be a breaking point. Also the amount of Private sellers that abuse that position by really being a business in disguise puts business sellers at a further disadvantage.
The announcement here in UK has caused a lot of ill feeling between business sellers and private accounts who are actually businesses but selling without fees to take advantage of the situation. Just not a level playing field as we say here. There are rumours that eBay are making a further announcement on Wednesday that will be of benefit to all UK business selling accounts - fingers crossed 🤞
UK TH-camr did a video on how they are forcing people they(Ebay) deem businesses and are using personal accounts to switch to a business account or their account will be suspended. This has apparently been emailed to a lot of people.
I have been thinking about this. Are they charging the buyer? So if the seller lowered their prices, the buyer would be paying about the same, I'm not sure what they are charging the buyer. I honestly think I would like this as a seller, but buyers aren't going to pay more, I don't think. Amazon does take care of their sellers, but they charge over 30 percent, so you have to do a huge volume.
Not sure if you’re aware, but there are some restrictions for the UK private sellers. They can list up to 300 items free each month and after that, they pay per listing. Also, Ebay is paying out those sellers on a quarterly basis. You can request to get paid sooner, but they may not give it to you. So basically Ebay will use all the money at the buyers are paying and earn interest on it before they turn it over to the seller. You can use your available funds for postage and buy other things on eBay, but not cashing out.
Just like the bin store craze, a few years back we will see a surge in resellers investing in their own online website stores. I foreseen this all coming back in 2018, as I was starting out. Not only do you have to do MARKET RESEARCH as a reseller, you have to be a VISIONARY and always be open to working with your peers. You start a conversation, ask questions, conduct preliminary research, define your variables, phrase it as an if-then statement, and collect data to support your HYPOTHESIS. Then you start EXPERIMENTING to see what works and what does not work. In business experimenting is called, "TRIAL & ERROR."
@@ericfatherof11 I do "free" shipping, I charge the full market value for the item but I don't put part of that value into a seperate column. If solds are $50 + $10 shipping I just list it for $60. On Mercari I almost always then just use pirateship for my labels.
I only list on mercari now cause it's free to do. My sales dropped better than 70% with low ball offers on Everything as buyers trying to mitigate the fees. And the customer service is now non-existent. If you do well there goods on you but I cannot tank my prices because of it.
Yeah it sounds nice but if you sell more than 30 items you are flagged as Buisness seller and it is passed to the tax authorities (at Vinted it works the dame), If you get money transfers of ebay in your account banks also get you flagged as a business seller here and you have to pay for these services. So it sounds nice, but practically it is only doable for a limited number of items per year. I already have a business account, so for me it does not matter. People tend to buy at business sellers because there you have a return right, a right which is not there with private sellers.
I don't think they will go no-fee in the US. On another topic, I hope that all of your family stays safe through Milton. I think I'd move your car to the parking garage now. Others are likely to do the same, and you want your car at a high level. Praying for y'all. (Dixie)
I am only a part-time reseller but, my Poshmark buyers have been almost non-existent this week. I have sold one $15 item. Stay safe Casey and Florida peeps!
Im UK seller, i sell about £25k a year, spoke to ebay other day asking them if i should move to business now that they are threatening to push fake private sellers onto business, they said i have not met the threshold yet, i was like what is the threshold, they could not give me a defined answer lol. Either way, i have opened up a vinted PRO account now, next year does not look fantasic with all the coming changes you mentioned plus they will let the buyers chose thier prefered courier, which again is not a great idea IMO, on the 16th they will also hold private sellers cash and not give it out automatically on the daily. Another reason i was looking at a business account. Us private UK sellers are now enemy no 1 to business sellers, all out of nowhere, we were not given a second thought a few days ago, now out of nowhere everybody hates us as we have zero fees, even threatening to report fake private sellers, ebay told me they do not have the means to report us, but it is an idea of how they have us divided out of nowhere, its such a shame the way its gonee down.
eBay would make way more money if they lowered the final value fees on books and movies to 5%. With media mail rates increasing and Amazon charging ZERO listing fees, how do you compete otherwise?
ALL SELLING FEES? this is no true. they still charge a fee on int'l sales of around 3%. Onbuy marketplace here in the UK seem to be trying something different. only allowing business sellers onto the platform and only allowing new or refurbished items to be listed. Supposedly the fastest growing marketplace in the world yet sales have been very poor for me. They have just hiked their monthly subscription fee. My profit doesn't even cover that some months.
I seriously doubt it, lol. I’m a seller and in Florida. But, they are aware of the circumstances, so if a package ships out late, it will not affect your seller stats.
Vinted and Depop are growing exponentially and they have no selling fees. They're trying to compete because they are losing their private sellers to Vinted.
I think it would be feasible to simply lower our fees. EX: Listing a $5.000 Ring (4oz) and having to pay (15% jewelry fees) $750.00 fees + FVF. Just to list. Ouch
