I think it's a good thing for society in general because that means men don't care as much about "being a man." or having to prove their "dominance/manliness"
I don’t think your sexuality should dictate your grooming routine. If a man chooses to be well groomed, then let them be. One’s sexual preference has no bearing on one’s appearance. We are doing ourselves no favours when we ourselves are reinforcing these stereotypes. Do what you want and groom yourself however you wish to!
My husband grooms, but in the traditional sense: showers, shampoos, uses deodorant, shaves when he wants, etc. Right now, he has a beard, but it's trimmed. We experimented with coloring his hair, but in the last couple years he has let it grow in gray. He uses skincare if he's having a breakout, but that's it. He's no frills and I love himt hat way!
Wayne, in my opinion you look more straight than most of the guys i know. Do not get it wrongly, speaking about somebody's type, i guess your masculinity is perfectly balanced. Lots of love and respect!
My personal preference is also a Marlborough man. No make up, not overly groomed or metro looking. There's room for everyone, it's a good thing we don't all want the same thing!
I'm slightly confused as I live in Sweden and I feel like all I see these days is men with big lumberjack beards.. Not just hipsters anymore, either. On the other hand, I think those men are taking more care of their beards than men ever have before, so I guess the point about grooming still stands. I don't mind men grooming, you do you etc, but I disagree with the point I've seen people make that it's a step towards gender equality that men are (possibly) feeling some of the societal pressures that women have felt for so long - wouldn't a more desirable step be to see those pressures gone? I as a woman am not benefitting from men feeling more pressure - what I would benefit from is less pressure on me as a woman.
Love your comment! I think we’d all be happier without the pressure. I’ve been fat and I’ve been skinny. If I put weight on I feel so so depressed and ugly. Body dysmorphia- did that exist 50years ago? Thank you again xx
It didn't exist to the extent that it does today. I think it was more when I went shopping and anything over a 13 either didn't exist or was butt ugly.
65 year young woman here who still gets my nails done and sometimes chooses out there colors or designs because I like it, still have my hair colored blond because I like it, still wear makeup everyday because I like it, still choose an outfit du jour because I like it. I do what makes me feel good and don't need anyone's approval. I don't want to be stagnant or predictable... even put a purple streak in my hair this past summer. I still feel like I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. You are just delightful, Wayne, and I love watching your videos. Hugs, Cathleen
I prefer men who shower, shave and know how to dress and groom for all situations. If men practice self care in their grooming habits, then great, but if they take longer than myself to get ready we may have some potential issues.
As a heterosexual female who is mature, by the way... I do like men who are manly and I agree that they're getting harder and harder to find. However, I do want them to be very well-groomed. And I can tell you that when I look at a fella and he looks scruffy, my first thought is this... "If you did not bother to properly groom the hair that we can all see, how ungroomed and unkempt is the hair that we cannot see?" You know what I'm talking about! Because if he ain't well groomed 'down there' I want nothing to do with it! This is extremely important to me! Haha
Totally agree! I love that men these days are less afraid of "women's stuff" and more secure in themselves. Blur those imaginary lines so we can all just focus on being ourselves!
My boyfriend is probably one of those straight guys you are talking about. He is incredibly stylish, although he's not into fashion. I let him choose outfits for me as he knows what would look objectively good. I even let him do my makeup, he doesn't have the skills but he can choose all the right colours. There is a stereotype that those are the characteristics of homosexuality, but that's not always the case.
This is an old video, but I still want to state my opinion. I think there is nothing more attractive than a man who doesn't have fragile masculinity. If they are confident enough to ignore today's gender roles and look 'groomed' or wear makeup, I think it makes them even more likable.
Several years ago, I read a book by Cathy Crimmins called How the Homosexuals Saved Civilization. She wrote at length about how heterosexuals are constantly borrowing from our LGBT culture. I think this particular trend of male grooming is just a continuation of that. I certainly don’t see anything wrong with straight men wanting to look pretty. Everyone deserves to feel confident in how they present.
Travis McMurray nope, nono, wait. There was a person with the handle "dog dog" trolling everyone. I also got some... weird comments from that poor nutcase but now everything is deleted. I got a notification yesterday but I'm checking it out just now and I can't find it. It was mostly broken english nonsense trying to be offensive.
Yes and no, why, well I find that I use to be flawless when I was younger. So many of my straight friends were always asking me how to get their man to look like me. I was so thin. The would say, so that is how you are supposed to wear it. No, this is just how I wear it. Then there was a gay hairdresser going around telling all the men to grow their hair long, and the women to cut their hair off. We would laugh at all the men and look down at all the women with short hair. No real man wanted a woman that looks like a man. I still think that way. And men with long hair still will flirt with me, and I will smile but still not into it. And as I was working one of the women I worked with cut her hair and her husband canceled dinner with her, and she was crying and they all looked at me at lunch and asked why. I told her a man wants to be with a man or a woman, not a man that looks like a woman or a woman that looks like a man. I was, and still is one of those men. He told you not to cut your hair. You cut it to be the man, and lost. You listen to one of your unmarried friends, so now till your hair grows no dinners out. Now you forgot the guy that look like the girls and the girl that look like the guy. Your husband said he never wants to be seen that way. So anyway that is why I feel that way. See you in church.
I have an over groomed "too pretty" man. I love it, I love not being so gender biased. I am proud that we are starting to blend together as humans. I love sharing my skin and hair care, we have the same skin and hair type. Its like sitting down to a favorite meal with the person you love or helping eachother in the gym. Its just another form of togetherness 😍💏
Symbi O'Tech why would you want to blend into someone else? Or blend together to look the same in a relationship? What about looking individual and not the same as everyone else?
Hannah, My beau and I look very different but we enjoy grooming and taking care of ourselves the same. Its not about physical appearance its about how you treat your body. As it goes for my boyfriend and I, we do that the same :)
When I met my husband he was using foundation and I loved it, he later introduced me to his favorite brand. Now almost 10 years later I’m so much into makeup and he gave up on it.
I think anything that enables men to feel free to do what they want can only be a good thing. What they should be careful about is falling victim to fashion, they should find their own style. Then men would be all styles, someone for everyone. I don't think sexuality needs to come into it.
Yes Wayne!! You hit the nail on the head! It's one thing for a straight man to be very put-together and always clean and fresh. It's another when the pants get so tight and the hair gets so groomed to the point where I think my gaydar is broken!
I don't necessarily agree or disagree. I'm a bit of a special case though. I'm straight, my profile picture is much like those books that get judged based on the cover. It's true, I do wear more than a bit of makeup now and then, more than what's considered conventional. I'm all for those doing what makes them happy.
Brushes Of Magic LOVE your profile pic -- that red lip looks AMAZING on you! 😊 Personally, I find a person's individuality to be the most intriguing and attractive thing about them. Here's hoping the current TH-cam trend of celebrating men who wear a full face of makeup spreads into our broader societies, so that more men who want to can feel safe to enjoy it ☺ Keep on being your awesome self! 😁🤘
The only thing I need for a straight man to do is address his brows if he’s got that unibrow thing going on as well as bathe and wear clean clothes everyday. I’ve dated a metrosexual man that was in the mirror more than me and I just couldn’t deal with it. At the end of the day I like a well groomed man but groomed to the point of obsession is not only vain but also unattractive to me.
munequitamamita ...I couldn't agree more. Not an attractive quality. Maybe we are going to be judged for saying that but... I guess "who cares?", right? 💞
I also GENERALLY like the scruffy, traditionally masculine type (Russell Crowe type) BUT I occasionally enjoy a more feminine looking guy (say Ewan McGregor with eyeliner), too. And as a 46 year old woman I love the fact that we now live in a world where men are a bit freer to express themselves in whichever way they prefer without being judged as much. Love.
I disagree. I think men are feeling the same pressure to look a certain way that women have been feeling for centuries. I also think it's another step toward gender equality.
Wouldn't it be a step towards gender equality to reduce the pressures on women? How is anyone, and women in particular, benefitting from men feeling the same (negative) pressure as we have for so long? I know it's a saying that misery loves company, but I'd rather see what makes me miserable gone, than wishing it on someone else, too.
jha I understand what you're saying. I would add that I believe both things are happening at the same time. Men can choose to spend 4 daily hours in a gym and buy Estee Lauder foundation. Women can choose not to shave their legs and wear only sunscreen on their faces. Having options is a *good thing*. People will still prefer one thing over the other (because we're human) and some people will always judge others based on looks. Being condescending, rude, agressive or dismissive to others because of dumb shit like makeup is stupid, but that's going to happen too.
For myself....it depends entirely on the man & the way he carries himself. What looks good on a 6 ft, blonde, & blue might look hideous on another 6 ft, blonde, & blue. Some men carry off a little scruff magnificently while on others it's like-uh, nope. Some clean cut men stop traffic & others I want to throw a little dirt on. It just depends on the individual.
I totally get where you're coming from as a feminine gay guy. I feel like society is scared that real men (jocks, cowboys, hunters) won't exist in the near future but I don't believe that. Our society is too obsessed with gender norms for the standard man to just disappear. That's just my opinion. I think it's awesome that men can wear makeup and express their feminine side in this day and age without being burned at the stake. Even though I still get a lot of flack for being a feminine man in everyday life I'm proud of who I am..
Depends on the straight men in question. 40ish, straight, American men have, as a general rule, absolutely not gone too far. Not even close. Even here, in a large East Coast city, soooo many men 40 and up go around looking like they think they're invisible. The same haircut for 20+ years, drab and ill-fitting clothes, weak posture, constantly hunched over staring at their phones, scuffed shoes, rough, dry skin. They complain about getting fat but "don't have time" to work out. Yet they do manage to find hours to watch sports every week. I think a lot of them still harbor attitudes from their teens and 20s that wearing clothes that fit and putting more than the absolute minimum effort into their appearance will make them "look gay."
I have always loved the "Marlboro Man" look. Your blue color man is the kind of guy who doesn't go over board with anything. If I needed to take him to a funeral he would still look nice in a suit.
Whenever I describe my type, it's the Marlboro Man. It's truly uncanny how similar we are, and not just in regard to this topic. I'm so glad I stumbled upon you a couple months ago. I've learned so much about makeup. I've also learned a hell of a lot about humanity. You are truly a wonderful person.
Where am I missing all these well-groomed men who put a little effort into their appearance?? Not where I live! Lol while I enjoy a little scruff, I also enjoy someone who puts a little effort into their appearance.
Haha haha 😂😂My late baby sister played that song on the juke box at a hip hop pool hall and started dancing and singing... Omg it was hilarious. Thank you for that memory. But yeah I don't want a man that spends more time in the mirror than me. THEN COMES OUT LOOKING PRETTIER!! ❤
Over the past 2 months, I'm working on an article titled "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone" (inspired by the abundance of feminized looking males). I love them scruffy, unkept, and a bit dirty lol I love smelling my husband when he get's home from work! I can assure you, it's not the scent of sweet roses. Generally I don't really care what people do. However.... man buns, thinner frames, less muscular, looking too "pretty"? Not for me. TMI Alert: A Canadian Clinical Psychologist suggest (based on a study) that women who are on birth control are less attracted to masculine looking men.....Interesting. I'm with you Wayne, they've taken it too far. Grateful for my scruffy unkept manly husband.
I think a guy should be whoever and act however he wants to be, gay or straight. It's interesting that Wayne is saying it's strange to see straight men wearing makeup considering he's a makeup artist. Makeup doesn't belong to any specific gender or sexuality. Be whoever and do whatever you want with yourself and be happy
I dated a metro sexual man. His eye brows were better than mine and he took. Longer to get ready than I did. So...it didn't last long. I want to be the pretty one in my relationships. True story. He was prettier than me I prefer a bit of scruffy around the edges. Like he could change a tire. Looks like a man. But smells good.
Gigi Dodson ...This made me laugh soooo hard! You're adorable even if you didn't mean to come across that way. I absolutely agree... you said it in such a great and funny way..YESSS!!!!
Fiona Midgley ok but see that is kind of the point, are they doing this for themselves and because they enjoy it or because they are feeling pressured by society and social media.
I don't mind my man to groom himself, I even encouraged him to do so. But whether you're a man or a woman, too much is simply too much. The question is: where do you put the limit? My late husband hated when I wore any make-up at all and I learned to feel comfortable with no makeup at all just by taking care of my skin to make it look healthy, that's it. Now I love makeup, I love to be able to draw my mood on my face, sometimes imperceptible, sometimes dramatic, sometimes playful or romantic. My face has become a canvas on which I express feelings. Though my complexion remains often nude because I prefer my skin with nothing better than with makeup because my cheekbones create enough shadows on their own, because they are Rosy all year round since I live healthily in good mountain air... I bet that the day I move back to town, I will change my mind! It takes to look honestly in the mirror, to accept oneself, to know oneself very well to be able to cut from trends or rather to adapt them to suit yourself best.
Yes! Thank you for bringing this up. Every time I bring this up to a straight dude, he gets all butt hurt because he thinks I'm calling him gay. I like a clean shaven well dressed man, but I still want him to be manly. 😁
Nothing to do with “gay” 🌈 . There are gay guys who aren’t groomed and are a hot mess, 🤪 likewise with straight guys. But there’s now a lot of pressure on guys as a whole to look groomed and gorgeous 🤩. The media, footballers, young male actors are to blame - this generation of guys are just more groomed.
If we're starting to see similarities with drag queen personas and appearance, then it's too far for me. That essentially means: very demanding hairstyles, fake tan, overly groomed and arched and thinned eyebrows, shaving all your body hair, like ALL of it. These things go for women too in my mind. If they do ALL of those things, that's a bit too high maintenance for me, if I were a man I'd not be into women that went so far. But it's just my own preference, people can do what they like
polives you just hit the nail in the head, twice. The same standard of taking care of your looks vs wasting energy to look like a live version of a photoshopped magazine spread should be applied to both men and women. Still, anyone can do whatever and we all have the same right to try to look good (and fail lol)
I am with you! My husband is a well dressed and well coifed but not like the "overly done" makeup wearing men of today. He is very clean, shaves for business but will go a bit scruffy during vacation or the weekend. He is a very masculine guy, he is body conscious and knows how to dress so he is very well groomed and very attractive. No makeup, or the other stuff. Now I have very masculine gay, male friends or feel the same as my husband does and then I have male friends that are not gay and they will wear makeup and nail polish. I also have a male friend who cross dresses and he is all done up when he dresses like a woman (mostly character) when going out or events but when he is dressed as a man he is well groomed but no makeup. It's an interesting topic you brought up, I find a lot of women like a man in makeup. When I was younger and a club goer for me it was the hardcore rockers with liner and then that was enough for me, LOL! I would like to make it clear I am not offended or against anyone partaking in wearing or not wearing makeup or whatever they choose to do.
I totally agree with you Wayne, as a matter of fact I was just having a similar conversation with my group of girls just this weekend. We were all pondering if it's just our imagination or has the world totally shifted, in terms of men being manly & behaving manly. My gf is moving & it dawned on all of us that we all USED to know several strapping guys with perhaps even a truck that would be happy to help with such a thing that was the springboard for this conversation. After realizing that none of us know anybody that fits that description anymore it lead to a very eye opening & enlightening discussion.
Well you answered your own question. The Women liked the look of the Straight men. The Gay men didn’t. Seems like they are grooming for themselves and their target audience. Also, makeup is fun. It washes off. The outward appearance says little to nothing about the spirit of a person. Which in my book is far more important. There was a time when all men of note wore powder and lip rough. They plucked and wore fine wigs and colourful garments. Stereotypes don’t define sexuality or character. They are no more than a caricature or a symbol and by no means embody the facts of anyone. Have a great day Wayne. 😉😊
Maybe nothing to do with the topic of the video but... I just want to say that you are THE Authentic Makeup Artist that thought me how to look gorgeous with little to no makeup. You are the person that thought me that simple equals beauty. The whole atmosphere of your channel is calming and fresh. Oh, yeah - the wink still gets me to this day haha! Please, PLEASE, never EVER stop doing what you're doing. You are needed! And you are adored by all of us! 💗💗💗
Honestly, I say let people do what they want.It used to be that everyone wanted straight guys to be more open, and now they have gone to far because they are open to the idea of makeup, grooming and fitted clothing? Lol society will never be happy 💁🏾😂
Andrew Smiley yes and no. Yes women say they want their men more groomed but then again we don't really want them more groomed than us. Part of the issue isn't just that "society" will never be happy but that men are feeling more and more pressure to comply with certain things, for instance eyebrow maintenance. My husbands idea of eyebrow grooming is taking his trimmer with the longest guard on it and going over his brows because his tend to get really scraggly. Now younger guys are going for threading or waxing. He would never think to do that. So while I would say to each his own, my heart tells me that many men aren't doing this because they want to but because they feel they have to. There has always been a ton of pressure on women about how they look, but now men are feeling similar pressures and I think social media has a ton to do with it
My boyfriend of 8 years is a literal cowboy and he grew up riding horses and roping cattle. He likes to be scruffy and wear a beard, and the thing is, he wouldn't be HIM if he became completely groomed. I like that now he wears Tom Ford beard oil, but mostly he's just a man man and I think that's why we've been together so long. I guess what I'm trying to say is, yeah, I find men who are a bit scruffy more attractive than a guy who is prettier than me. ;)
I wish there were more man like you.Beautiful heart with no foundation. We lost balance ,priorities and structure;outside and inside of our soul. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!
Put the stereotypes in the bin. I don't think there's such a thing as going too far with grooming. I think femmephobia plays a factor here. People consider grooming a bit feminine, hence why some people find it a bit weird if men do it, but it shouldn't be a negative. If you don't wanna go too far, that's fine. Some men want to look more "feminine" and that's okay, if women or men don't wanna date them, oh well, they shouldn't change who they are to be in a relationship. The right person will love you for who you are. It's that simple really. I'm a very feminine guy but I do it for myself and no one else. Take it or leave it kinda deal.
My thing is this. My husband and I are very old school . We are in our 40's . And he goes and gets a shave and a haircut. But he is a guy he is a Mans man. He has a beard in the fall and winter .. trims it down to a goatee in the summer.. wears trousers ( not a lot of jeans in his wardrobe) . No make up ( unless he's in a play) . If I wanted to be with a woman .. I would be. And if he wanted to be with a guy.. he would be. We both like to celebrate the differences between the sexes. I love my curves and so does he. I love his barrel chest and wide shoulders, he loves my dark hair, fair skin and when I wear red lipstick. I like MEN.
I agree. I don't mind if men take care of their skin or put product in their hair, but if I ever catch a guy in my makeup that's gonna make me go *hmmmm*. But I know this is just a silly little video and EVERYONE is allowed to do whatever they want as long as it's not hurting themselves or others!
Yes! My boyfriend and i were just having this conversation in the book store just 3 days ago. He pointed it out to me as we were browsing and came to the “romance” section. He committed about the change of book covers over the last 10-20 years. I started to think about it, he’s so right
I hate to be that idiot who says confidence is timeless, but confidence is timeless. Trends are for the anxious, as the timeless John McLean said in his last brilliant video. And hey, I love a man who looks like he's only recently misplaced the pig under his arm as much as the next person, but a solid sense of self is sexy AF, whether clad in foundation, handle bar moustached, both or neither.
I was a club kid in the 80s. Back then, lots of people looked at magazines like The Face in the UK to get inspiration for clothes and makeup. Nobody had smart phones then (nobody had internet yet) so men in makeup was quite niche. Now, because everyone is so connected and marketing is so intense, we are bombarded with images of how we could look, how we should look. In the 80s, it was shock value, rock and roll, and fashion. But do I think the guy on the train with the stenciled boomerangs for eyebrows is fetching? No. Too each his own, but some men are going too far with it. If it is societal pressure to do so, well, now they know what women have had to deal with. Less perfection (for everybody) would be nice. To be comfortable in one's skin is attractive as hell.
I love that men are able to look after themselves more now with skincare etc but there’s a fine line for me. I like my men to smell divine but still look a bit rugged. I love big rough hands but clean fingernails, do you know what I mean.. I don’t want to see a perfectly manicured hand on a guy. I love to run my hands through my husbands hair, it smells and looks clean but it’s not gelled to within an inch of its life! For me it’s like a beautiful garden, give it love and care but let it flow and keep its wildness
My husband is a complete 70's throwback. With him it's some facial hair and no fuss, motorcycles, horses, sports, fishing, country and rock music. He's very minimalist and wouldn't be caught dead using any kind of facial products except soap. It's wash, dry and go with him lol. Haha and the idea of a suit is only for funerals and weddings! With that being said, he most definitely is the type of guy who would never conform to any society standards. He always let's me know he's a man -not a woman or some yuppie :-). Because of the way he is, I have only pretty much come in contact with real men. Lucky me ;-)
I do love a man with facial hair. Well, when it’s well groomed . I think that’s just one reason you’re so attractive, Wayne. That along with your personality make you P E R F E C T! My husband even likes you, and he cannot stand when I watch other “beauty vloggers” (though I recognize you as much more than that). He watches your videos with me and enjoys them. I truly admire your talent. Even more than your talent (though I haven’t seen anyone more than or as talented as you), your humbleness as well as your authenticity are extremely admirable and attractive.
First, I would just like to write that your videos and candor are completely appreciated! Your videos on make-up or just everyday life are something that I really look forward to. Secondly... Where have all the cowboys gone!?! There's is nothing wrong with a well maintained man. But, I miss the days of a rugged looking man😢
You are masculine and I respect that sooo much bc in the beauty makeup industry gay men feel they have to be as feminine and flamboyant as the next with the full glam makeup & nails.... You don't have to do all that bc you seem comfortable with being a man. I don't know why gay men do that it's almost like they act like women
Dearest Wayne, I live in Southern Alabama and currently work as an office manager for a govt subcontractor supervising building of ships for navy. The men in my life wear hard hats, safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed boots that have seen much better days along with chewing tobacco cause they cannot smoke in the shipyard. I like a man with a bit of style as I get all the scruffiness I can stand at the office. 🤣🤣🤣. I live near my dearest friend, who is gay & married and we have been friends for over 35 years. He’s been in his relationship for 29 years. He works in sales and is turned out perfectly all the time. Not too gay but not too straight. Just right. And gives the best hugs EVER!!!
It's just trends that we are speaking about. In the last decade it's been a trend for men to take care of themselves look-wise...and this doesn't make them less of a men. What I like the least is the pressure on gay men to look as masculine as they can.
Honestly, as long as you use makeup, skincare and beauty products because you want to and because you like it I don´t care if you are a man or a woman, straight or gay. I don´t care if a man uses makeup or not. Doing what you like and being comfortable with who you are is what attracts me.
I am of a certain age, ahem 49. Where I live it is becoming more and more common to see men wearing obvious make up. I am not sure how I feel about it, there is a part of me that says Go You! Then the other side feels a bit awkward asking a man in full on glamor make up for help with cosmetics. I think that men taking more effort with their appearance as a whole is a great thing. And I agree with the others with the comments that you are truly a very balanced dreamy man! Much love!
I really don't mind seeing any man or woman looking as they please - if they want instagram-like makeup every single day, so be it! But personally, I like chilled out, more masculine guys (for what I consider masculine, of course), "manly" looking if you will. That's what I personally find attractive!
Honestly, where I am located, BFE Tennessee, it would be amazing and a miracle to see more put together men. Unfortunately this area is about 50-75 years behind in fashion and 150 years behind in attitude.
I appreciate that straight men now feel confident enough to apply makeup if that makes them happy. I’ve never dated a man that wore makeup on days that weren’t Halloween, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it. As it is, I don’t think any guy I’ve dated has even known how to pluck an eyebrow, so maybe it’s easy to me to say overly groomed doesn’t bother me since I don’t deal with it. I just think it is mostly a “you do you” thing in my mind, though. It isn’t up to me to tell everyone else what to do...which means they can leave me alone about my choices as well 🙂
From the perspective of someone with vet training I think it’s interesting that male humans fluctuate like that. In the animal kingdom it is often the males that have manes and bright feathers, more vibrant coloring, etc. as this helps attract mates. With humans, that would be say olden times with the wigs and the fancy clothes, things that kind of showed off status and wealth and whatever. That, even subconsciously, is a way to show “Hey I’m a suitable mate” as well as to say to other males “Here’s where I stand, hopefully it’s better than you.” Over time humans have seemed to change from “I CARE VERY MUCH ABOUT HOW I LOOK ALL THE TIME” to almost a sense of “Nah it’s whatever” and back again multiple times throughout our history.
I don't think it's necessarily gone too far. I like that men can now openly enjoy things that once weren't considered "manly". It makes me happy to see other people being happy and able to do what they like without being frowned upon. Now, that being said, my taste in men does tend toward the more rugged side. Calloused hands from hard work, men who like to fix and build things, wear jeans and boots, have rough facial hair that looks like it grew in that way and isn't trimmed like a show poodle. I actually really enjoy it when my husband smells a little like motor oil and leather. It also weirds me out a little bit when a man's fingernails look as nice as mine do.
I think it is wonderful that people feel they have the ability to be more open and who they want to be. I don’t think the cowboys are gone, I see plenty of those types. I’m just happy that people have more freedom to do, look, dress (wear makeup, not wear makeup) however they feel with less negativity being thrown at them. Don’t get me wrong, we have a long way to go, but we are making progress. Now... that does not mean I’m more attracted to a metro man. I typically go for the same types you do, but I’m happy that the metro man is comfortable to be what he wants.
Who gives anyone the right to say how far another person has gone? If you enjoy the rainforest growing on your face, or having a baby’s ass for a chin... who cares? It’s your face/body. Do what you want: it’s your “temple”; decorate it and present it any way you like. I understand people have their preference, but this gets very judgmental quickly, and we start to pigeonhole people with this kind of nonsense. Have your preference and be happy. But don’t try to prescribe what people “should” look like. This is all too heteronormative and conformist. Free yourself of that bullshit thinking you picked up from your environment all your life. It’s 2017. Wear makeup. Don’t wear makeup. Be flamboyant. Be plain. Get a job. Own a business. Suck a dick. Eat carpet. Just be yourself!
Some people call men that are very well groomed, effeminate.I asked my husband to groom his facial hair and of course he trims his nails, but that is as far as he’ll let me go. I do have a girl at the salon I go to making sure that when she cuts his hair she takes care of all those grooming guy things.
Nope. (Opinion of a straight white woman.) I think many guys look great with "guy-liner." And those really long coats look fantastic because they're essentially long skirts, which many guys look great in, very masculine. (Think: A blacksmith's long leather apron, or a super-long coat like Reeves has in the Matrix.) Guys should get to express themselves. Why should looking well-kempt have anything to do with sexual orientation? Be who you are, and have fun with it, is what I say.
I like a man (in no particular order) who is clean, well-groomed head-to-toe 😉, is communicative, knows enough about motor vehicles to effectively deal with the car repair person w/out getting swindled (or good at DIY, but not necessary), mature & well-balanced mentally, is into me 9999%, and doesn't use tobacco. If he's got all that & more going for him, and he wants to wear some cosmetics, I'll get him a makeup bag of his own.
I love to take care of my skin and hair even though I’m straight... so i guess the amount of time spending in a bathroom does not define your sexuality!
If you do or wear whatever you want to do or wear with confidence, it's all good. My ex was very groomed, very fashion-y (both fine, love it), but very self-conscious and worried about his looks (hair loss, fitness), which became very unattractive to me. Own it, people!
I think so. While I have nothing against men wanting to care of themselves, I find I am drawn to men like Brando, Eastwood, Gable, Peck, Grant, Kelly, etc...I like men...scruffy or not...to LOOK like men...
I agree. He’s a perfect balance.
I couldn’t have said it better myself! Wayne is perfectly balanced.
Thank you. Truly. Thank you xx
Agreed !!!!!
Totally agree.
My personal preference is also a Marlborough man. No make up, not overly groomed or metro looking. There's room for everyone, it's a good thing we don't all want the same thing!
I like a man who doesn't give into pressure, ,take care of themselves, yes,,but, ,geez,,be who you are!♡
I'm slightly confused as I live in Sweden and I feel like all I see these days is men with big lumberjack beards..
Michelle Dogson
I totally agree.
No. Men being comfortable w their masculinity is good. Straight or gay.
I agree whole-heartedly! Love the cowboy, Marlboro man type. Really don't like when it's obvious a man uses more product than me.
As a heterosexual female who is mature, by the way... I do like men who are manly and I agree that they're getting harder and harder to find. However, I do want them to be very well-groomed. And I can tell you that when I look at a fella and he looks scruffy, my first thought is this... "If you did not bother to properly groom the hair that we can all see, how ungroomed and unkempt is the hair that we cannot see?"
You know what I'm talking about! Because if he ain't well groomed 'down there' I want nothing to do with it! This is extremely important to me! Haha
I don't want to offend anyone, but I don't like my partner to be feminine. I like them scruffy and low maintenance.
I don't think they've gone to far, more so they feel more comfortable to do what they feel.
MiaBoca that's an awesome way to put it, thanks!
Totally agree! I love that men these days are less afraid of "women's stuff" and more secure in themselves. Blur those imaginary lines so we can all just focus on being ourselves!
My hubby is a total cowboy and I love him for it!
Perfect analogy!!! THE MARLBORO MAN.... I’d fight you for him Wayne, lol😉😉😉
Everyone deserves to feel confident in how they present.
dog dog who are you? not a truthful game you are playing and what's with the deleting? hmmm..
First off, I’m not your “dog.” Secondly, I didn’t delete anything. Go troll somewhere else.
Travis McMurray nope, nono, wait. There was a person with the handle "dog dog" trolling everyone. I also got some... weird comments from that poor nutcase but now everything is deleted. I got a notification yesterday but I'm checking it out just now and I can't find it. It was mostly broken english nonsense trying to be offensive.
kerrr rr my mistake. I never saw the comment from them.
Elaine Bines I apologize. I thought you were talking to me. Sorry about that.
Symbi O'Tech that's uber cute and heartwarming. I wish you guys the best!
What a beautiful way to put it 😊👍
aw
I like a well groomed man. I think it's a bit unfair that women are expected to be groomed but men can get away with schlumping about.
Jeanette Teurlay .... Right 😉
munequitamamita .. atta girl! 💞
I agree with you, Wayne. Ideal? Kris Kristofferson in A Star is Born. Swoon ...
I also think it's another step toward gender equality.
people are finally starting to understand how gender is socially constructed and how men and women are merely social constructs
Being condescending, rude, agressive or dismissive to others because of dumb shit like makeup is stupid, but that's going to happen too.
jha preach!
Soleil Magica I’m interested to know what you mean by this.
I think we're ALL preening a bit too much.
They can do whatever they want to. If they’re feel more confident doing it, I don’t see why we’re stopping them.
Be whoever and do whatever you want with yourself and be happy
ambdance00 Preferences belong to the beholder! That's what he was talking about. Have another watch. He literally says "you can do whatever you want."
I dated a metro sexual man. His eye brows were better than mine and he took. Longer to get ready than I did. So...it didn't last long. I want to be the pretty one in my relationships.
True story. He was prettier than me
I prefer a bit of scruffy around the edges. Like he could change a tire. Looks like a man. But smells good.
Gigi Dodson yesss
Gigi Dodson ...This made me laugh soooo hard! You're adorable even if you didn't mean to come across that way. I absolutely agree... you said it in such a great and funny way..YESSS!!!!
Nothing worse than not feeling like the prettier one in a relationship, as a girl.
Gigi Dodson A man shouldn’t take longer than a woman to get ready. I want a man who can spit, splash and zip off to work.
Why can't you both be pretty?
As soon as you started talking I couldn't help but shout 'I agree!' to myself haha. I'm glad someone else has noticed this
I would never have guessed Wayne was gay and neither do I care. I think men and women should wear whatever they like. It's no one elses business. X
Nooooo fake tan
Flower Kitten hear here Wayne Goss is the authority that you want to hear from 🎉💖👏
My husband and I were just having this conversation. He said I wonder how the young girls feel with all the men being overly groomed these days.
I like MEN.
They can do whatever they want.
I agree. I don't mind if men take care of their skin or put product in their hair, but if I ever catch a guy in my makeup that's gonna make me go *hmmmm*. But I know this is just a silly little video and EVERYONE is allowed to do whatever they want as long as it's not hurting themselves or others!
Your right, I don't think that there are real men anymore. Where have all the cowboys gone?
Yes! My boyfriend and i were just having this conversation in the book store just 3 days ago. He pointed it out to me as we were browsing and came to the “romance” section. He committed about the change of book covers over the last 10-20 years. I started to think about it, he’s so right
My husband manscapes and I do appreciate it. He also keeps his hair tidy and trims his nose hairs. It’s just the right amount of grooming for me.
Lucky me ;-)
As long as they’re showering more I’m happy!!!
Exactly.
@jos molen hi bestie 😍 did you know you’re on a makeup channel? And did you watch the video? Hope this helps ❤️
The cowboys are here. With love, from rural America.
I do agree that some men look too "pretty." I like a more rugged looking man.
I totally agree Wayne. We, in the South, call these guys "Drugstore Cowboys."
I agree, Wayne. It has gone too far! I don't want the man I'm with to take more time than I to get ready.
Honestly, where I am located, BFE Tennessee, it would be amazing and a miracle to see more put together men. Unfortunately this area is about 50-75 years behind in fashion and 150 years behind in attitude.
My feeling is if a man is more concerned in how he looks and is looking in a mirror more than I am, then that is too far.
Wayne, I think we have the same taste in men! My husband is a total Marlboro man.
Oh I agree I love a scruffy man and they are hard to come by now days !! Luckily I have already found my scruffy farmer ! 😘
love you wayne
Agreed! So over the squeeky, overly polished guys. Clean, rugged and just plain "manly"!
I agree with you Wayne. I like men to be more rugged, not afraid to get his hands dirty, definitely not to be high maintenance lol
I think it's a good thing that men are more able to express themselves through fashion. Whether I find it attractive isn't really important.
Personally looks-wise - the rougher the better for me 😂😂
I love to take
care of my skin and hair even though I’m straight... so i guess the amount of time spending in a bathroom does not define your sexuality!
