I appreciate everything MAPPA's done, but nothing beats WIT.
Mappa's cgi is better than WIT's cgi but obviously WIT's hand-drawn titans and 3dm gear scenes are miles better than Mappa's titans and 3dm scenes.

Of course WIT’s handdrawn titans and their ODM action are better, but overall I actually really love Mappa’s art style, the way they draw expressions, some of the lighting and the overall direction a lot more. I honestly don’t think people understand how lucky they are with how the final season turned out, especially under the circumstances.

@@Kabutsuji same here, when Mappa does use 2D titans they look stunning. Armored and Jaw even look amazing in 3D a lot of the time, Eren occasionally as well. I don’t mind the CGI at all, it’s just that in some scenes it does have its bad moments.
@@casvd01 i enjoyed the cgi even, but certain scenes seem to not fit well, like eren looking up while he was on the warhammer skewer, that bit made the titan's face look very thin, hope to see more 2D snippets of the mappa, and I think part 2 will come with a lot of improvements, and from what we've seen, it's very fluid

thats true but the conditions in animating key scenes like these were way different between the two studios, mappa could definitely animate a levi vs kenny-esque scene in the upcoming part, especially when they have done it before with more underrated scenes like in god of highschool (jin mori vs jegal taek) and jjk (todo and yuji vs hanami, gojo vs sukuna)

@@MrCreepYT its different, the part 1 trailer was made by a completely different team of animators at mappa, and the team working on the show were not allowed to use those shots for a unspecified reason. The second trailer tho were shots from the actual anime, these will 100% be in the anime, but they might be improved as they might add more detail to some shots. But again don't worry, all the shots in the second trailer will be in the anime

Listen, I love Mappa, but I just don't think they compare to Wit in any department. Yes, they have great facial expressions, but the inconsistency still exist and Wit also had INCREDIBLE facial detailing. First thing that comes to mind are the faces from season 2
Fair enough. I will admit that Seaskn 2 had some of the greatest art in the entire show.
The answer is both. Both have their own unique style and features. Mappa has great accuracy to manga and great facial expressions. Wit has great action shots. If they collab for any spin-off it would be the best of both worlds and be perfect.
Both were great but obviously, Wit kills on the technique overall over Mappa like fluidity of the action sequence, but the big advantage they had for that is that they have the time + Arifumi Imai for it. BUT..i really like the dark and serious tone that Mappa choose to give for the final season, but it would've been great if the contrast light/shadow was a bit better cause sometimes the image feels a bit "flat", especially on the nights sequence. Still have big respect on Mappa for taking the risk to produce S4!
Can you pls explain wdym with time , if you just do one google search you will find that the time between s3 part 1 and part 2 is 6 months , while the time between season 4 part 1 and part 2 is almost a year and mappa still used cgi
It's true that between part 1-2 of S3, Wit a had a break of 6 months. To be honest, I won't pretend i exactly knows their situation about it at that time, but i don't think they make S3 part 2 in 6 months. I'm pretty sure they already worked on it during the part 1 diffusion. And for Mappa, (again, it's just my guess) i think the workload of animation is not exactly the same overall, by that i mean the quantity of complicated sequence to animate and i guess that's why they need almost a year even with cgi. I didn't read the final part of the manga, but i heard and read frequently by people who read it that it'll be a really challenging part with lot of difficult scene to animate so, the cgi may be really useful to still use for them, and to keep a certain consistency in general with part 1. Sorry for the big text, i try my best to explain my thoughts on it.^^

Cmon bro it's obvious wit didn't have the time to animate s3 part 2 , if u compare s2 and s3 part 2 fight between eren and reiner u can see that they were struggling with s3 , also at that time wit was working on vinland saga which have amazing animation , idk how they manged to do that with less than 50 animators

They are a small team of less than 50 animators and they were working on multiple shows at the same time
For example in 2019 when wit was doing s3 part 2 they were working on vinland saga too which had amazing animation btw , and some other show i forgot it's name

What Wit did with the character designs can't be understated, they made the characters iconic. A majority of the fanart uses Wits style of design and it just looks cleaner. The idea of Mappa being manga accurate rubs me the wrong way because what made Wit's adapation so good was how it took Isayama's rather bad art and made it flashy and smooth.
Wit is perfection. No one can surpass them. They use the traditional method whereas mappa uses modern ways. Vinland saga, aot both have awesome art style and colors even the sky looks so good. Wit did take time to make these but mappa had to do it in less than a year. Wit studio made aot so gruesome it had the tension in scenes and ost was on point with the scene. Wit easy win

@@foxinaround1220 After season 1 there was a 4 year gap because anime might catch up to manga. Anime studio make the episodes ahead in time. For an seasonal anime with 12 episodes which is not an original anime it definetely takes around 4-5 months. In aot there's lot of action and detail it takes more than that. Wit had a less staff compared to mappa. Mappa did a 16 episode season in like 8-10 months. But even if mappa had more time I still prefer wit studio

both have their pros and cons in different aspects. I enjoyed wit's action and hype moments the best but I preferred mappa's overhaul ambience, atmopshere and direction. good video! Kaya´s mum face looks perfect in the Mappa version, it´s so traumatic to look at, her expresion looks so creepy and realistic acording to the situation, it gives me the chills

I mean, it just harmless discussion. Of course Mappa have a lot of issue (heck, they just done the finishing touch for S4 ep 6 a day before the ep air, that just how tight their schedule is).
Comparing something is a normal thing to do (such as saying Wit excell in some aspects of AOT) and u still can heavily appreciate both studio work. The problem only rise when the toxicity start leaking out like: "Mappa suck" "Mappa animator is lazy, unlike Wit" "Crappa ruin AOT". This people doesn't even know that the animator work like freaking slave and they don't have time to polish or improve everything even if they want to.

Wit had more “sakuga” scenes, and understandably, MAPPA couldn’t deliver in the same way with the time constraint. Wit excelled when it came to ODM scenes and the like, very pleasing to watch. However, I do prefer MAPPA when it comes to more cinematic shots. Wit had really nice sceneries, but it feels like I’m watching a movie with MAPPA. I think people overlook MAPPA in that regard. I think it’s interesting how both studios handled the adaptation. I think they’re both really great and as much as I loved the hand drawn titans and sakuga scenes with Wit, I prefer the feel of MAPPA’s adaptation, like I said, it feels like I’m watching a movie and I like that.

conclusion: WIT is better if we talk about Sakuga and Animation. and Mappa is better if we talk about art style, and background drawing
the Mappa art style is worse though, just because it's accurate to the manga doesn't make it better the Wit's. Isayama has an arguably bad style with lots of lines in it, Wit smoothed that out and Isayama himself agreed that it looked better.
i think that wit's art style really fitted aot perfectly, but i also give mappa tons of credit because of how clean their art was.
1 minute in and we're talking about how WIT's shot at Eren looking up at the sky was dark and grim looking... huh, sounds like the perfect theme for this 4th season! (:
Mappa clearly cared about its still shots more than WIT which was much more focused on the animation
Altough i also enjoyed the WIT studio Era, one problem they always had was that their designs looked wayyyy too clean for the tone of the show and the narrative. For example at the season 2 finale all of the characters have fought for hours non stop, Mikasa and Eren fell down from their horse and lie in the dirt, Mikasa confesses her love and both of them just look like they just got their hair done by a professional! And considering that most of the time in the series the characters are very stressed and not in any position to look clean and showered, Wit studios designs just did not work all the time with their clean and always consistent looking hair, etc.
Well did you know that Isayama really like AOT S1 artstyle. He even goes to says that AoT s1 help him improve his art style.
Wait you complain about their hair looking too neat...? Uh have you seen s4? Lmao other than Eren face looking weird (which they fix it a bit on blu ray) everyone has great and neat hair during their fight.
@@kiattim2100 Its the small things that make the difference, sure they do look pretty clean overall. But the designs in s4 are a lot more detailed and feature a few more hair strains. Combined with the hatching it just looks a lot more natural than the older seasons, where it (mostly) just looked the same all the time. But your right, the hair did probably change the least
I think both WIT and MAPPA chose to depict certain characters memories differently for a reason. Time and emotional distress can impact the way we remember things. So maybe as Reiner’s mind deteriorated from PTSD he remembered less surrounding details and more of Marcel’s terrified face?
I think is just perfect that they switch studio. Wit made aot look like a shonen and mappa did 180 seinen. Like eren character development.

The thing I love about wit is the line work it just looks beautiful with the pressure sensitivity but mappa has none of it

they are both excellent, but i like mappa's drawing style and attack titan design more.
I prefer the wit design, overall because the anatomy is God, MAPPA's is more stylized but it looks like it was drawn by someone who only knows how to draw overly buff characters.

I think Wit is much better, three seasons and a bunch of OVAs already proved their talent of animation. Mappa still has the second half of final season to prove their worth. They still doing the good job with the story because the author make sure they dont mess it up but the animation... let see how CGI turn out in the second half, it could make or break the final season.

if you want Attack on Titan Season 4 to look better and cooler, maybe Mappa Studio can make it, but we have to wait 2 or 3 years for that. (such as attack on Titan Season 1 and Season 2) actually Mappa's CGI is good, try to see the anime "Shingeki no bahamut" by Mappa.

I feel like the switch fits because the whole show changed this season showing us different perspectives, so I like the switch as a an evolution of the show. That said I personally like WIT more.

I liked animation sequences from WIT studio like Levi vs Kenny squad but the art style and colors of Mappa are better. I don't know why but I don't like the thick lines and white extra coloring of WIT. Also MAPPA style looks a bit more cinematic and the dark tone is better for this final season. But the hand drawn Titans are better from WIT. Both studios did their best.
I really like WiT’s artstle, the shading, color grading, thick line drawing, lightinh and the background designs, also the animation on odm gear scenes and titan fights is very good, overall WiT arstyle really captures the anime vibe.

For me, the WIT version will always be better. Even if sometimes something is better drawn in the MAPPA version, WIT handles animation much better. He plays with perspective. Mappa only colors the manga.

@@truemanofculture2353 The first part was a colored manga nothing more. Now you can see that it is better. Still, it is not the level of WIT, but it is much better than in part 1. Listen, it's not that I underestimate MAPPY for what she did in such a short time, but it does not give additional points for potential. The BTI set the bar high and stated that they would not make it in such a short time with season 4, maintaining quality and level, so they gave up. MAPPA agreed so I rate them as the contractor. It's nice that we have AoT. I'm glad they are trying. Part 2 seems to be better so far, but if you think about Levi's fight with Zik and compare it to season 3, I personally feel sad.

Wtf, I just realized... Eren looks so much like his Wit counterpart in that Sasha scene.
You also forgot to add the Eren darker version of saving Mikasa for the manga like you did for the others.
In my opinion, I’m not really blaming MAPPA for the sudden change in the art style because they clearly chose to opt for maximising the faithfulness to the source material in such a stressful condition and time-frame….but I can’t deny that between WIT and MAPPA, WIT gave me a different way of experiencing AOT’s story because of just how different the meat is here.
This comes from someone with sort of anime production knowledge but I rather just speak as an audience. I still think MAPPA’s decision on how to approach the final season wouldn’t be something I’m a fan of especially if it’s so drastic from a style most of the fans really liked, I find that more jarring than anything in all honesty.
Some characters look really good and I’d even say MAPPA’s style might be the most spot on to portray how different Eren is now and I find Zeke to have a pretty good transition but then there are characters who are pretty much continuations of where WIT left off yet they look too…different for me to think they’re the same. Armin, Mikasa, Levi.
I just think for pure entertainment value, I would’ve taken WIT over anything since they just already are doing a good job but MAPPA had a few new things to bring to the table that I don’t quite mind.
Thats fair enough. I do understand people not feeling the new art style as it is different to the previous seasons.
Not to get too much into this Wit vs. Mappa debate, but for me the beauty of WIt is it's simplicity. Our minds and our imagination are made to fill in the details, and thus draw us more in on the story. Mappa tries to fill in the details for us, but sometimes in doing so... comes up short.

Wit studio charcter designs and face outline felt more realistic and were consistent....the eyes were in right proportion....but the shot of mikasa lying on floor that one i liked maapa

Overall,I both love the studios' depiction on AOT.I prefer WIT a bit more.But I will say that WIT excelled on animation and movements,while MAPPA excelled on details and realism.

In my opinion, Wit's animation is good for episode series. Meanwhile, Mappa's animation is good for movies because of it's cgi and quality.
can we just stop comparing the studios and appreciate their work? i believe both of them have done an amazing work.
I do kind of prefer how colorful and clean Wit’s animation looks. It creates a huge contrast with the subject material and tone, similar to how games like Bioshock Infinite are in their art direction. While I do appreciate the “scratchiness” of Isayama’s work, I don’t think it works that well when colored in. MAPPA is way more faithful to the source material, and I love it for that, but its use of Isayama’s vertical hatching kind of drowns the image at times when animated and colored. Their character models are largely better than Wit’s tho.
Also this is just a thought, but I think MAPPA put more effort into the flashback scenes because they know it’s going to be compared to Wit directly, so it makes sense that those shots happen to be the most detailed and colorful lol

Art style in season 1 is so much different than season 2-3, probably because they haven't really figure out which art styles suits aot (the change is inevitable because art style in the beginning of the manga is quite bad) but during the end of season 1 they started redesigning the whole character while still keeping the atmosphere in the first season, which for me the characters look so much better in s2 and 3. While people still say the cgi in mappa is better than wit studio, mappa's cgi better be good because they heavily rely on cgi with animating a titans and even humans, wit in the other hand is only using cgi for huge titans but that still didn't bother people because non titans are still hand drawn.

Mappa has done a really really good job overall so far. I was only bothered by a few quiet scenes, like the gnashing of teeth by the military leadership when Pixis gave in to the Jaegerists, or the shock reaction of the military leadership when they heard that Eren had escaped from his cell. That seemed too forced to me. Otherwise, I'm only bothered by the action scenes in 4 x 6, 4 x7 and 4 x 14. I can handle the CGI titans. The faces, however, should really be tackled again.... But what bothers me the most are the CGI scouts and the poor camera work. I mean, we have scenes where everything is CGI. Why doesn't the camera move? I know it's a lot to ask, but I would have liked more WIT action scenes than Mikasa's first appearance. There isn't a 3D maneuver gear scene where I thought to myself: "Awesome, I need to watch that again. Was that well done."

Dawg it really pisses me off how this is even a debate obviously WIT did a better job it’s not even close, MAPPAs work is fine but see that’s the thing it’s just fine while WIT always goes beyond and you always have to give credit when a studio does more for fans in the manga the Levi vs Kenny squad fight was actually like 12 panels but the way WIT elevated it just for fans same with LEVI vs Beat Titan but MAPPa they haven’t really gone above and beyond for anything it’s all just decent and to make it worse out of everything they’ve made JJK and what we’ve seen of Chainsawman AOT has been the worst in terms of looks
umm how much time did wit have to animate levi vs kenny compared to mappa animating levi vs zeke? wits animation looks more smooth but imo mappas style is a lil better (my opinion), btw that argument ab mappa not going beyond is dumb asf they literally did that for every single jjk chapter ( a show they had time to actually elaborate on and wasn’t rushed) to the point where reading the manga would just be disappointing, mappa did the best i’ve ever seen in such a rushed situation, they def went beyond expectations tf

I perfer mappa's art style but in terms of animation, I think wit was better. both are good through. mappa really improved the cg titans in season 2.
