I recently bought the battle city speed duel pack to play some simple casual yugioh with my wife and honestly it has been so good, so I think a product like this every now and again is great for people that want to just play for some nostalgia without having to learn the current metas. So im happy to see something like this, as long as it’s not too often. W for yugioh!
its helpful for teaching friends how to play at least, would be cool if they did this as a series of products to get people past the initial rule fear barrier to entry
Well for me this is going to help. As a Magic player, the mechanics are way too different in Yu-Gi-Oh, I started learning by playing speed duel, but even this two pre-constructed decks are going to help a bit learning the whole game piece by piece.
This past year I was introduced to playing Magic The Gathering through their starter kits which are basically the same thing as this product, 2 decks and an intro guide. It was a great way to learn the game because playing with and against a deck around the same caliber really keeps it even for both sides. It was for sure fun but it does get repetitive after a while so I went out to buy the other starter kits from previous years and ended up with 8 different decks because they were affordable. I didn't care that these decks were not good in the meta, I knew that they were not going to be good from the start. From there I decided to make my own deck from those cards and eventually started buying singles or booster packs. I feel like if they keep this up then there be a variety of starter kits for Yugioh and be very helpful to introduce more people to the base game which is its intention.
As a person who has recently landed themselves a job at a local card hobby shop, purchasing this starter set has been a massive help! I appreciate the detailed walkthrough of a first game, while explaining as many mechanics without being too intimidating. I for one would be keen to purchase something similar, with different mechanics such as pendulum and fusion being explained! :D
I feel like something that people may not be thinking about is that generally, the best cards in yugioh search cards from deck. This wouldn't really work in a scripted duel since you can't shuffle. Could they have put in stronger cards? Absolutely. Could they script a more realistic duel? Probably not.
This is not bad at all. Each deck focusing on one type of summoning makes it easier of new learners. And there are some good cards in there. 8:51 the decks should be evenly matched but the contents of the deck should NOT include evenly matched
As someone who is new to Yugioh I'm happy to see this come out gives me something to learn the game side other then just the collectable side thx for sharing.
I think at least they're trying to focus on the new player experience, which is good. But honestly an actual rulebook would be nice, and terminologies explained like : and ; and then and when vs if. Playing ygo sometimes feels like being a lawyer or something
So, I just am watching your old streams when I do a bunch of sorting, and I like you like 2% more now bc ig you play clash of clans , I didn’t realize your namesake came from that, so I respect that
I think its a nice idea, if a couple of friends want to get back into playing after a long time its a nice way to warm up the brain to the game again. Even as just someone who wants to get back into playing alone it seems like a good place to start since you get to experience 2 different decks with different mechanics and its all a walkthrough with a nice comic book! 🤓
When it comes to teaching Yugioh and its many summoning mechanics; the less things a new player has to keep track of, the better. So having vanilla monsters take up a bunch of the monster slots is a good call.
Very specifically because some people don't play Yugioh and require a lot of information that the starter set addresses. I got it and will ease my brother into the game with it.
As an adult who is rewatching the Yu Gi Oh Anime from the beginning I think this is great, I haven’t played in almost 20 something years, I think this is a great starter to just have some fun, I bought a newer structure deck and found it rather complicated so I’m glad there’s an easier version for those of us who just want to casually jump in
Yeah I think these decks are a good starting point, but what they really need to do is take from Pokemon TCG's old Battle Arena Decks format with these. Both include a way to learn the game through a scripted duel but also make them playable archetypes that you can build from.
I think this is a great idea, my gf and i bought some yugioh packs on a whim and unboxing them was nostalgic and fun but then we went to play and i spent hours trying to figure out how to play all these random cards we'd got. I gave up, its insane to a new player to try and learn everything with no one in person to teach you
I think you hit the nail on the head, this IS a good product for kids or someone who wants to learn how to play. I haven’t played since the GX era, so my only knowledge of summoning XYZ or Synchro comes from what I picked up in Duel Links 😅 can’t even begin to under Pendulum
I truly like this product I see this helping new players or as a refresher for people coming back to Yu-Gi-Oh after not playing for a long time as the new rules and summonings can be a bit overwhelming as well as trying to explain to people all the rules can be a little confusing. Hopefully Konami keeps making these sets especially with links
I'm in full agreement. Yu-Gi-Oh should do draft booster decks like MTG does. They usually come with a special insert card and such, but it could bring more ppl to the table on release dates.
I wish hey had this when I started. It loos to be a good measure of all the different types of cards you could get and really would help to get used to them.
As a way to introduce the game to someone who doesn't know how to play is a nice way. I mean I'd like a Lil more staples like ash or mirror force but this is good start. Obviously you need to purchase packs to get better cards, but I do like this if I was starting out.
Konami should design occasional decks that are meant to be played against each other. They don't don't have to be powerful, just balanced between one another.
8:48 "It would be cool though if they gave us two decks that were very EVENLY MATCHED" Konami: Write that down, write that down!! Next release: The 2-Player Starter Set II - featuring cards such as Evenly matched and There can be only one. "The goal of Yu-gi-oh! is not letting your opponent play Yu-gi-oh!" is the first sentence written in the comic book. 😆
Personally, I think this is ingenious. Having something to help teach newcomers how to play is great, especially in the way they did it here. And I agree on the idea of having a second set continuing off of this one to show some more advanced strategies would be good to do.
I was learning the game by playing speed duel but are these decks going to help? I think yeah at least a little to learn the game step by step. So I think this is not worst thing to do for new players. And I appreciate that each deck is focusing on one type of summoning .And I love the Zeus card!
I enjoy this product to hopefully bring in new players. Would love to see you and somebody have a match with these decks against each other! As always, thanks for the content!
100% agree with you. I didn't buy one myself given that I already play, but to entice more fans, they could also print a couple new cards in these decks! Instead of just reprints
This is why Ruxin is my favorite yugituber. He is honest, that title alone is damn on point. Unlike the other blokes who tried to "promote" and sell this "product". "This yugioh set changes everything",this yugioh product is the best, omg konami bla bla bla Thank you Ruxin
I actually grabbed one of that and played it sealed against my friend (after ignoring the instructions and shuffling the deck). It was a really fun time, and there were definitely some close games
I think this is great idea. Pokémon has been doing it for years with their battle arena box( I bought one and learned to play Pokémon) and it works for exactly what it’s designed for!
I think this is what they were trying to do with Speed Duels. I like it they made a plot armor deck. It's not a bad product to learn how to play from. I think they should go full tilt and add the common hand traps like ash and Impermanence. Plus they should address all summoning mechanics.
Honestly this appears like a great product for introducing new people into yugioh. I remember they used to make starter decks and structure decks as separate products the starters for new people into the game. This reminds me of starter decks and I wish they would continue this series. The game needs new blood in it if they want it to survivor. I’ve loved yugioh from the start but like many, I’m in my 30s now. The fanbase is aging up and out soon. Need new people new anime to introduce kids and younger people back into the game or else it’ll go the way of duel masters, buddyfight and all those other dead card games
I mean, if you're a seasoned player and collector, I could say it has its place. It would be good for people wanting to get into the hobby, which is good for the YuGiOh hobby in general. So, as I stated, it has its place and could actually help us.
I picked this up as although I got back into collecting the cards my friends who play with new meta I'm so lost as I haven't dueled since 2004/05 😂😂 I love how the comic is like you can duel against yourself 😂😂 😂
I personally wish that they made different tiers already, like okay getting into basic yugioh isn’t that hard its hard to get to the intermediate tier, like after this set, its a structure deck, and something like darkworld where you need to learn different between discard for cost and effect, albaz which cheats out fusions in so many different ways, crystal beasts adding new effects of putting monsters in spell trap zone etc, we need something that bridges the gap way more.
The reason why the yugioh community doesn’t like this product is obvious. This is not for the yugioh community; this is a product to introduce new fans into the yugioh community. I am glad Konami is making this because the yugioh community in my opinion is dying. Kids these days don’t even know what yugioh is. They need to bring back the anime, stop making new mechanics for a while, and allow new fans to jump in again.
I love the idea, I said it before, Pokemon used to do this the exact same way and it worked well. I wish you would have played through the scripted duel to see how it goes, and to see which side is supposed to win, I also feel that the XYZ deck is much better.
Conceptually, I think a product like this is a really good idea. Giving people a really accessible entry point into the game is a necessity for the game to grow, but having looked through structured duel, it has a lot of work needed. Again, great concept that can be improved, but needs a bit of work, in my opinion. The structured duel is a bit all over the place, tough to follow for new players, and leaves out a fair amount of information for the current metas. I know it would be impossible for a single set to cover everything in a game as complicated as YGO, but I think having maybe a video to follow along with could be beneficial (maybe a QR code in the box that sends players to a video to watch/play along with) as well as a wider range of decks and match-ups to appeal to people who jumped into the game at different points would be good.
Tbh a Zeus deck vs some random machines doesn’t seem to be exactly an evenly matched but idk, I guess it could be depending how you look at it, really depends how much you think is missing 😅😂
This is kinda why I like speed duel. Simple, easy, prebuilt decks that you can play with a friend. Only wish they removed the HIDEOUS speed duel stamp from the otherwise gorgeous secret rares 😤
It's an alright product. I do think something like 15$ (maybe even 10) would be more reasonable, or if it had stronger simple cards (more cards like Eldlich like pankratops maybe)
Honestly, I think this is a pretty good product. If the goal is to teach the game to new players (or returning players from many years ago who aren't necessarily comfortable yet with summoning mechanics like Synchro and Xyz), then it needs to strike a balance between being too basic and being too overwhelming. These decks don't seem too far off the mark in that regard, since they feature a mixture of old-school cards with simple effects and newer cards that could be (and are) used in competitive decks to do much fancier combos than what these decks can do out of the box. I can imagine someone with a serious interest in learning the game using this as a stepping stone, even if there's a lot more to learn (esp. Link summoning and hand traps) after playing with the cards included here.
Okay so me an a friend play tested this set and yes the Xyz deck is WAY better than the synchro deck, but what struck us going through them was the missed potential, yes simple begginner decks cool but also should have had simple combo strategies, like why only queens kinght, why not king and jack too, why only Sparkman why not have a few more heros even if your not gunna include poly or fusion monsters at least give them the base hero combo cards. If I was to design a teaching product i'd have two 50 base card decks with 8 extra deck each, 1 strat a synchro / link deck and the other and xyz / fusion deck then each deck has 1 ritual+monster. Each deck should have a base strat - the synchro and xyz and a supporting strat, the link / fusion, so you can have Heros and number warriors vs machine and cyberse with various junk and scrap synchros supported by cyberse link monsters, or more likley a cybrse link deck that splashes some computer/mech themed synchros for flavor. You want to be able to teach them about each core mechanic (except pendulums they were a mistake) and give them some fun simple combo pieces to bring togeather for occasional flashy play, which is what modern competitive decks are entirely built around but taken to 11. Give one deck kings, queens and jacks knight so occasionally they'll spring a board out of nowhere, give the other a once per turn loop of trap put monster in GY to hand > Summoned Monster puts trap from GY onto field; if there's a level 4 monster with this cycle it would be great for constantly threatening a rank 4 Utopia summon. And finally after defining each deck with its feature combinations to push out their signature monsters you need counterplay, each deck should have 2-3 pieces of disruption for their oponents strategy, like when your'e facing an infinite loop that means your opponent threatens their boss monster every turn you need a tool to banish the enabling piece from their graveyard, if your opponent can create a board in a flash you need a board clear. And this would kinda form the identity of the two decks, one deck is about having individually powerful monsters that tack investment to put into play while the other decks identity is to try and flood the board with monsters that support each other. Which helps us decide on what power cards to give each deck, the boss deck should have a raigeki while the swarm deck gets dark hole. And If were making decks for beginners we might as well include some ancient broken forbidden cards since these decks aren't for tournament play anyway, so give one deck graceful charity and the other pot of greed.
I mean the two player starter set did come in handy in a way the cyber dragon and elemental hero sparkman came in handy in both my destiny hero and my cyber dragon deck came in handy
To your point about not getting a top-tier deck for $20, Pokémon releases the deck that wins the world championship every year for like $20. Konami totally could do the same with super nerfed rarities (everything in common).
6:25 You're opening the decks wrong. There's a little cutout in the plastic that you can pull and wrap around the deck to make the plastic break. It's located in the middle vertically on one side. No need to use a knife at all.
For complete novices I think this is a great product. I wish we had something like this back in the day coz god knows I had no idea how to play it properly as a kid.
I think it can be usefull for new player that havent seen the anime, (like me) or someone whoe played it on early 2000s and wanta to come bakc, looking forward to get one
I like the concept, but I feel like Duel Links is a much more effective tool for teaching the game. Effect activation reminders helped me learn all the post-fusion summoning techniques.
Well it depends. If the comic book explains ALL the mechanics properly, then it's good. But if it doesn't... and these deck feel a bit too random for the theme they're supposed to hold (XYZ and synchro). Also, nowadays Yugioh is all about combo, and I don't feel these structures hold any combos that you can actually learn and understand the true nature of the game as it is now. I feel they seem to be more like the old "1 or 2 card combo" which is really nice and I love, but it doesn't hold true now. I do think it's great that they get a great card like Zeus for cheap, and Manadium as a basic build for an advanced combo deck is not a bad choice. I think they could be better, but the idea behind it is really nice!
I think this is good for people starting out, plus it comes with a bunch of cards that are good for beginners and people just starting to collect the cards
Ok first of all what shipping company is open on a sunday? Second it's kinda cool that you get 2 decks. Although it looks like a lot of random cards to me. What i think would be cool is if you separated the cards monsters/spells/traps. Then you and your opponent select 1 card from each section altering how picks first.
I'm guessing that was from the post office? Idk anyone else who delivers on sunday, but I know for a fact UPS has rain bags that we are supposed to put packages in if it's raining and there's no good spot to keep it dry. I'm guessing your shipping company also has rain bags, but they just didn't feel like using it

Honestly a rule book for all summons should be produced. Not just those two
Fr I’m stupid I need help 😂
They might want to release other 2-player set in the future for other summoning methods to make more money.
I concur 100%
6:20 there's literally a pull tab thing right there to make it easy to open 😂
I recently bought the battle city speed duel pack to play some simple casual yugioh with my wife and honestly it has been so good, so I think a product like this every now and again is great for people that want to just play for some nostalgia without having to learn the current metas. I think this is a useful product for new players. Being able to walk through a full duel is a great way to learn the ropes of the game.
I think its a great start, they should continue thinking about new players
its helpful for teaching friends how to play at least, would be cool if they did this as a series of products to get people past the initial rule fear barrier to entry
I don't think they needed to make this honestly
Well for me this is going to help. As a Magic player, the mechanics are way too different in Yu-Gi-Oh, I started learning by playing speed duel, but even this two pre-constructed decks are going to help a bit learning the whole game piece by piece.

I might just buy one to see for myself haha
Edit: @ 7:11 😂😂😂😂😂 was it a fiber jar with a star?? Lmao
Well it’s not useless. It teaches you how to duel. I think it’s worth it. Great cards too.
Love this set. Great idea. We need more product like this and new set every month or two.
This is not bad at all. Each deck focusing on one type of summoning makes it easier of new learners. And there are some good cards in there.

Got this for my friend that needs constant refreshers on yugioh. Plus, ZEUS is a nice card to have
So, I just am watching your old streams when I do a bunch of sorting, and I like you like 2% more now bc ig you play clash of clans , I didn’t realize your namesake came from that, so I respect that
wish it came with a gamemate, and token cards
I think its a nice idea, if a couple of friends want to get back into playing after a long time its a nice way to warm up the brain to the game again. A playset of Zeus and Eldrich together for $60 is really good.
Rush era is dubbed through sevens, just airs in Canada and streaming only.
I remember that once this product was out, I bought this just for Zeus. Haven’t touched the other cards in that set lmao.
I enjoy this product to hopefully bring in new players. Would love to see you and somebody have a match with these decks against each other! As always, thanks for the content!

I like it because it is meant as the entry way for new players. It is not for those whom are already playing, but the Zeus reprint is nice!
It looks like a useful product to get ppl up to speed, at least for the early stages of playing the game.
The comic book is a nice idea imo
I think its really useful to introduce us in the synchro/xyz duels
I picked this up as although I got back into collecting the cards my friends who play with new meta I'm so lost as I haven't dueled since 2004/05 😂😂 I love how the comic is like you can duel against yourself 😂😂 😂

Imo they should’ve started with ritual and fusion. Then go on with the other forms of special summoning
A showcase of all the styles of dueling and a book covering it all and deck dedicated to that style.
I think its a good idea. Helps new players get into it and you have an automatic deck for a friend or sibling to play with
pretty good for new players or random friends that wanna duel with set decks
I love the starter sets, attempts to make the game accessable to new players is great in building a sustainable fan base.
It's definitely great as an introduction to the game. Not really for seasoned veterans, but still nice to open!
I literally bought this last night. I'm hype for this. Finally can teach my friends and siblings how to play ❤

That’s actually one box to teach the kids of my cousins yugioh!
Thank you for making this video ruxin!
I don't agree with how they built these decks, but I do appreciate the thought.
I have been calling for a product like this but specifically for GOAT/Edison decks. Would be so cool even if the cards were all commons.
I'm part of the problem I only bought it for the Zeus. The coral dragon was a nice additional touch.
I loved the idea, immediately bought it to play with a friend, and my little nephew
I think it can be usefull for new player that havent seen the anime, (like me) or someone whoe played it on early 2000s and wanta to come bakc, looking forward to get one
I would whole heartedly embrace a draft play style pack that seems like so much fun to me
Konami: Embrace alt formats
Sell Time Wizard Decks like Goat and Edison
At first I was not a fan of the product, but after hearing some different thoughts I think it really is a great starting point for brand new players.
I like the concept, but I feel like Duel Links is a much more effective tool for teaching the game. Effect activation reminders helped me learn all the post-fusion summoning techniques.
I think this is useful for those who are getting started, but can be unnecessary since starter decks already exist.
Well, in my opinion is interesting for new players
Ok first of all what shipping company is open on a sunday? Second it's kinda cool that you get 2 decks. Although it looks like a lot of random cards to me. What i think would be cool is if you separated the cards monsters/spells/traps. Then you and your opponent select 1 card from each section altering how picks first.
I think its useful for newer players and it has some cards that some players would actually want like the zeus or mannadium
Good for a starting player! No harm letting new players in
Honestly I bought it and it's great, the Zeus also allows starter players to have a head start
I'm guessing that was from the post office? Idk anyone else who delivers on sunday, but I know for a fact UPS has rain bags that we are supposed to put packages in if it's raining and there's no good spot to keep it dry. I'm guessing your shipping company also has rain bags, but they just didn't feel like using it
I think it is useful for people who became friends with someone who is into ygo but can't really explain how it works
I think its quite cool for absolute beginners who just want to play the game but don't spent that much money
Nice reprints looks like fun 😊
I think the set is a good way to get new people interested
