General Kelley has a certain way of speaking and carrying himself that makes you want to sit up and take notice of what he is about to say. He lets you know without words that it is going to be important and worth every second of your undivided attention and well deserved respect.
His poise is impressive considering the amount of pain he must have been going through personally and professionally. I don't care what General Patton said, General Kelly made me begin to tear up at 4 mins. I could see what was coming. Unlike those two absolute heroes, I had time to think about their ultimate sacrifice. I wore a uniform and never reached a point where I had to follow a routine order to its literal end; and it was probably because some other young men or women in uniform, somewhere else, got that order and took that action for me. Given that General Kelly and his wife had just become Gold Star parents themselves, just before this speech is truly unimaginable.
I have no idea how he did that and kept it together. I also would not have wanted to be the one to have the duty to ask General Kelly to make that speech.
I've interviewed many WW2 and Korean veterans and to a man they all say the real heroes are their friends who didn't make it back. Only now do I understand that, 100 percent.
RIP to all those lost in battle; and lost to despair and suicide after the fact of battle; and for surviving. We truly must look after our young veterans. We ask the young to protect us.
Why, then, do we so often, ignore them when they hang up their uniforms?
General Kelly, thank you for your tribute and for your own family’s sacrifice. BH

Just discovered this in my TH-cam feed and I greatly appreciate what was said about these troops. I pray that our country is taking care of their families, now that they have gone on to meet their maker.
Still to this day, the men and women, who sacrificed himself for this country, need to be held up by those of us who are still sitting at home.
They give their lives, their souls for this country. Because they want to see freedom Ring forever and ever.
People need to realize, that the military is not the greatest job in the world. There are things that our troops go through, that only other troops will understand. The average person on the street doesn't realize how important it is have these men and women throughout the world trying to protect the freedom that our forefathers realized was so precious.
We all have forefathers from the past who were immigrants to this country. Seeking freedom and a better life. And I understand why immigrants want to come here. At least the ones who want to become true citizens of the largest melting pot of humanity in the world. All I ask of them is to please do it legally.

And remember, God doesn't promise tomorrow, or even your next heart beat, but He does promise the penitent the free forgiveness of sins, a forever right standing with God, and an afterlife of eternal joy and pleasure in and soley because of Christ Jesus, and what He has already accomplished. At age 5 and my family‘s youngest I was thrust into a gold star family when my brother Joe, 15 years older than me was killed along with his b-17 crew in WW2.
In 1949 general Eisenhower spoke to our Gold Star Mothers and my mother and me in Fort Worth, Texas.
Our whole family was affected in some way. I enlisted in The USMC 15 days past my 17th birthday. All of us gave to America and proudly did so.
But there has never been nor will ever be those who gave their sons and daughters to duty
    ; our Gold Star Mothers.
When our Gold Star Mothers cease to be honored “by a grateful nation” for their sacrifice we will cease to be a nation.
