I am a Navy veteran and enjoyed my time in service even when I was lost driving in a blinding snow storm, watching with my colleagues as we mourned our friends, and panicking while taking firefighter training in a burning house. I raised my sons who enjoyed being military brats and traveling with me. I was injured on Active duty as I ran in a dark parking garage in advance of a PTtest. I am also ignorant of what event triggered this press conference , so am searching for context.
I am surprised this video dates back to 6 years ago. When it seems so timely!
At first , when I was thinking this was a contemporary event (I admit I should have known this was dated because I don't think Gen. Kelley remains in the same position???).
I thought maybe he was reacting to Trump's recent outrageous photo op at Arlington Cemetery, -- which itself was illegal (no photos or political activity permitted there, so as to preserve the respectful and somewhat mournful status as "hallowed ground").
Again, I was wondering at first whether Gen. Kelley's comments and press conference were in reaction to Trump's recent disgusting, barren, naked, opportunistic and self- agrandizing visual portrayal of himself as respectful of sacrafice, when in fact Trump is so shamelessly contemptuous - of not only military service and sacrafice, but also (as articulated) contemptuous of our (former) Democracy, our Constitution, or any values of decency.
I wish I were more articulate -- yet I fear for all of us -- within and beyond the USA -- especially if Trump were to manage to actually get re-elected (or, if he more successfully distorted election results).
I spent much of my adult life wondering how citizens of pre-WWII Germany were tricked into becoming SS troopers and Nazis.
And I always wondered, if I were there then, how bad it would have to get before deciding to abandon country, family , and friends, just so as to escape?
Similarly, I wondered (and wonder) how much blatant Evil it would take to provoke such a desperate and drastic action as to emigrate (at grave personal risk and expense) to denounce Hitler's ideas and influence ... to just leave ... to be no part of it?
Mostly, I have been feeling for many years now (especially during Trump's term as President, not to mention his safely weaselly remote orchestration and provocation of the Jan 6 Treason and insurrection) that USA citizens are being duped into falling for Trump and his crazy false rhetoric.
I 0:34 find it unthinkable that he might be re-elected!!!!
I wish better candidates would have risen up to oppose him. General Kelley would be an inspiring choice -- reminiscent of Gen. Eisenhower.
I despair that the country and the World are too self absorbed or struggling economically to pay attention -- it is as though we are all playing in a real life drama akin to the fable about -- "The Emperor has no clothes."
I think the far left is naive, and so have a hard time voting for them.... but the Trump alternative can only be perceived as monumentally EVIL.
      I can't vote for that.
Thank you posting this inspiring video (would be even better with some info regarding time and context though).
Thank you again, General Kelley and whoever posted this video.

After reading more about what Congresswoman Wilson actually said (she was in the car with the widow and had known the fallen soldier for years), I think Kelly was defending the office of the president, not Trump. Kelly was in a difficult position. He was serving in the administration of a terrible president but was still serving the office of the president. Rock and a hard place springs to mind.
Perhaps he should have consulted Wilson before this press conference to get the inside story. Then let Trump carry his own water.

@@miamisands3412 In February of 1933, when agents of Hitler's National Socialist party burned the Reichstag (the German legislature), then blamed it on the Communists -- within a month, the Reichstag convened again in temporary quarters, and passed legislation which made Hitler a dictator. (The 'enabling' act.)
Back then, Germans who recognized Hitler and the Nazi's for what they were (genocidal totalitarian maniacs) had a place they could go to find sanctuary from what was about to descend upon Europe. A young nation, less than 200 years old, called the United States, defined by a Bill-of-Rights, intended to protect its citizens from the likes of Adolph Hitler.
Unfortunately, in spite of his best intentions, Trump has failed to protect us from the gangrene of political corruption which has infested every political institution, our civil-service, and now, even our news-media, both the old and the new. The contagion of Communism has infested every continent and sovereign nation (to varying degrees), so there really is nowhere 'else' we can go. All I can offer are a few words from a President (who's statue was recently torn down by 'anti-fascist' rioters here in Portland, Oregon):
"The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country."
      (Abraham Lincoln, December 1st, 1862)
Bottom-line, there is no place to go other than the here and now. We either fight for what we have taken for granted, or meanly acquiesce to the seditionists in our midst, who seek to realize Xi JinPing's vision of 'Ant-Hill Earth', here, there, and everywhere.

@@tbthomas5117 The idea that you would actually write a post like this that starts like that, and immefiately proceed to blame "Communism" for what we just witnessed in the bald faced Naziesque attempt to seize power is absurd. I had to reread this to figure out if it was some kind of satire.
But at least Hitler actually served his country. Bonespurs combines all the worst impulses of those authoritarians with being a weak man, a flabby man, the defition of the effeminate flabbiness of self serving men who've been destroying our country, and that you would somehow both try and excuse the bottomlessly corrupt behavior of people like Trump while making what should've been an absurdist parody of a post disgusts me. Moreover I suspect the intellectual dishonesty, doublethink, and hypocrisy of traitors to America like you is fully intentional, and repulsive people like you are no different than any of our foreign enemies had been, and who is clearly tone deaf enough that you know the words but not the music so to speak, as though you can ramble off about Lincoln and Hitler and we won't see through it.
I take it yoy also don't pay attention to anything the news.
This is all the more hilarious because a man truly deserving of honor and respect in this country has utterly savaged Trump, calling him the most astoundingly dishonest and pathetic man, while Trump in turn has insulted, denigrated, disparaged, and cheapened the sacrifices of actual heroes as a matter of routine. The fact you are oblivious to all this and had the nerve to post this in an interview with general Kelly while trying to be a trumpcuck for one of the most craven, pathetic, dishonest, flabby, WEAK and pathetic men who've ever held high office in this country is truly astonishing to me.

Maybe not in as many hearts as it did in the past that you and I recall!... Tho, not as bright as they were, but they are still there, just waiting to return to their former brightness. Please keep the Faith General Kelly, "because we all depend on each other to keep a place in our Hearts, "Where We Hold Those Sacred Things!"

If you had cancer in your body and nothing was done it would spread to the rest of the body. We have a horrible cancer in our country.
It has already destroyed many lives trapped in poverty over several generations of government dependency. Marxism destroys by design everything it touches.

@@charlesrhoads399 I think that we answer the same call, a call I first heard as I walked home from school one day, where I was just learning my abc's!... As I walked down my street, I noted that in a vacant lot on my left a big boy was standing over a small boy laying partially on the ground at his feet! And the look on that boys face was, "a pleading call, please help me?" Something in my mind switched on, and I immediately turned and walked directly out onto the field and put myself in front of the larger boy! My mouth opened and out came, "this is wrong, leave him alone and go away!" And to my complete surprise, that is exactly what he did! That was the day that I discovered that I am a protector; and I have always been, and always will be that way!
And just this year, my 76th, I went over some of the incidents where I believe God, my Higher Power!... Blessed me, by placing me in just the right position to be of service! And not bragging, but the total number of people who were present and could have been injured or died, adds up to just about forty, I was surprised at the number! And I know that my service is far from over, until I draw my last breath, "I am on call!" And so I train every day, "as though I will be in a life and death struggle tomorrow!"
And I know enough about Marxism, to know that it is a government system of organized bullies!
      1. Similar to the Mafia, and some Religions, it is elitist and thus it is stupid!
      2. It makes up laws as it needs them, and the little people are powerless!
      3. It becomes innovative by copying the innovations of free market countries!
      4. Or it becomes innovative out of fear, "The USA has rockets, so we will put up satellite's first, and thus the Space Race!"
      5. When the leader/priest(s) comes up with an idea, "be suspicious and fearful, because he/they are the stupidest of all!"
      6. Mao had a thought, "the birds are eating grain, and depleting some of our reserves!"
      7. So Mao said, "every citizen has a daily quota of birds to kill, or they will be punished!"
      8. He was warned, but he was the leader/priest(s) so he didn't listen?
      9. Soon over the fields of China there appeared black clouds of locusts and etc!... And before it was over, 45 million innocent Chinese Men, Women, and Children starved to death! That is how stupid a Communist System/Religion and its Leaders can be, and there are many more examples of this kind of stupidity!

@@raqueljacobs1542 You clearly don't understand how analogies work because your attempt at one was illogical, possibly because logic eludes you. If didn't have such an aversion to logic you would understand that the death of the service member wasn't the issue that he was referring to. The issue that shouldn't have been made political was the offering of condolences to the family because it is selfish and spineless to try and make a political statement about a private conversation she was eavesdropping on. It diverts attention from the sacrifice made by the service members due to an egotistical desire to politically grandstand. If you don't understand how the private words used while offering condolences shouldn't be weaponized to steal the spotlight, especially when that statement had nothing to do with how or why life was lost, then you have no shame or class just like the clown of a congresswoman. This is the same congresswoman who stated a day or two later that she was a "rockstar" when interviewed. Two years after that she proposed that there be prosecution for anyone that dares to make fun of members of congress online, clearly a tyrannical mindset from someone with such little mind.

Dad was forever thought of that experience. He never ate anything he had in the army.. never used the VA for anything. It was his way of coping.
