It’s relaxing and almost meditative to watch these old videos or films. It’s funny to see how farmers were dressing back in the 50’s. I had to laugh when they were servicing the oil bath air filter and discarded the used oil on the ground. How times have changed. Thanks so much for sharing this information.
I love these old farming and equipment videos. In my very simple opinion this era was when the U.S was at it's height. Seems we have gone down hill ever since. Yeah, we have greater technology and medicine and such but as a society we have lost a lot.
Thank goodness for modern diesel tractors. Those old machines have a lot of character, but it's a lot of work keeping them serviced, and going through a daily routine just to get it up to working temperature
cartridge air filters prevent chucking oil and the fuel used for cleaning on the ground. Still was interesting. We followed the instruction manuals religiously. Some of these points were never discussed by the manufacturers.
Imagine if you told the farmers in that day that if they followed this advise they would end up with a tractor worth up to fourty times as much as they payed in the 21st century
Back then tractors, and almost anything, was designed and built to last, especially when treated in the way the manufacture recommended, today’s machinery is far to complex and computer controlled, you need a degree in computer maintenance and advanced engineering, but that, as they keep telling us, is progress.
Imagine if you told farmers in that day they wouldn't be allowed to work on their own tractor. Imagine telling them about the subscription based functions they have to pay for otherwise they lose the functionality.
Other than perhaps one with a special serial number, a very short run tractor like an JD 8020, or one that was in a movie name one tractor that has gone up fourty times. So for example a $6,000 4010 would have to be worth $240,000, and if you adjust for inflation it would have to me worth $2.4 million.
Very informative video, the tractors were started with and without battery, the magneto was very common word using for distributor now a days, the magneto were also used in aircrafts like B-24 and B-17 bombers.

I was given my friend greef about the worn out pins in his skid loader, I asked him how often he greased it and he just shrugged and guessed twice a month, I said it should be every week and showed him my skid loader which had twice the hours and was twice as old and had much tighter pins because it was greased
most farmers 😊😊 took really good care of there tractor 🚜 😊many years ago when the tractor was brand new gas motor a.nd grease wasn't much in price back then 😊😊 U should've done this 2 tes a year take air cleaner assembly should be took off and cleaned out and raised out the engine the same way and the transmission also and most tractors were kept in a tractor shed and U should use a metal coffee can 4 the air cleaner and the exhaust pipe W a 5 gallon bucket 4 both and put a good rock on them 2 keep them in place 😊😊 OMG 2 23 2O24
This film conveys the attitude towards the environment years ago in the scene where dirty air cleaner oil is discarded on the ground. People didn't think twice about using ungloved hands to clean out engine oil sudge. Health hazards were greater in the past because leaded gasoline was used in gas engine tractors and lead deposits are in the oil.
9:15 to fix a hole by the air cleaner take a cigarette and stuff into the hole and allow the tractor to take a good long drag that will improve the performance of the engine or you could use duct tape
4:36 when adjusting the generator use a crowbar and pry on it really hard and have the belt tight like a guitar string when you can play a note on the belt then you know you adjusted it right!😳
3:13 oh what happened to using antifreeze in these things I guess they used to use water all year around so that the block would crack when it was too cold and then the water pump would split looks like a lot of work for the summer months when he hast to replace the engine and water pump!😩😩
Antifreeze was invented in 1926. Up to that point the block had to be drained of the water to prevent cracking the block as you stated. It was common practice at the time and didn't involve the expense of antifreeze. Just add water the next time you used the tractor so the practice continued. Same practice for cars, and trucks.
I just love these colour films. Thank you so much for posting them.

5:57 someone at the EPA just had a heart attack watching him dump that used oil right on the ground LOL
"How dare you!"
Didn’t the oil come from the ground in the first place? Remember, put things back where they came from.

He just tossed the dirty oil on the ground!
Ahhh, the good old days...
He's just putting it back where it came from.
Chris Baumgarten yeah when they didn’t have to care about the environment
Dust control
Yes the good old days
Circle of life there 😂😂

Till you realize without a $30k computer, which Mr. Deere won't sell you, you can't even service a power seat motor...
Check out 5:55, I couldn't help laughing, that dude just chucks the oil on the ground. It sure is a different world today.

Tons of vehicles used a magneto far into the 20th Century.
2:35 dirty rain water is the best to put into your tractor
The best tractors find that balance between not scaring horses but can still scare women.
So Good information i saw. Lot of thanks

Dave, ya need to follow this advice. Eaglegards...
If you start watching at twenty two minutes, It's funny how they show the guy throwing the old oil on the ground
Coffee does the trick

25:09 well I guess they usually would say more grease is better than no grease at all😩
9:16 that tractor is gonna get lung cancer lol
19:17 drain the oil on the ground and make sure you get it all over the place ah the time before the EPA!
Everyone’s talking about the oil on the ground, no mention of the smoking tractor at 9:17
Darn, a tractor with a cigarette habit 😂

Back when people would dress snappy to work on a tractor.
2:25 and if water is the fuel do you want it over 220 degrees
Are these engines tier 4
Love these old videos. Not a care for the environment. Just toss the oil on the ground. Imagine the shit you'd get today for doing that? 😁
No storm drain to dump used oil!
9:33 that’s not a tractor piston that’s a train piston
How do you make aunty freeze ?
Lock her out of the house!
9:15 to fix a hole by the air cleaner take a cigarette and stuff into the hole and allow the tractor to take a good long drag that will improve the performance of the engine or you could use duct tape
17:04 oh don’t do that!😘
17:53 make sure you’re smoking a cigarette or a cigar when you’re refueling😳
You can't even light a pool of diesel with a match.
@@svtirefire i'am talking about gas refueling :-)
No wonder my tractor on my last one year

I can drive a big old Farmall
5:56 Just throw that oil in the driveway there. Don't worry about it getting all over things or poisoning the soil.
