Hey guys! Welcome back. In today's video, I am sewing the Friday Pattern Company Ilford jacket. This isn't a step-by-step tutorial but more of a chatty sewing vlog where I talk about the make as it's coming together. I also show how I line the inside body of the jacket and how I work with thicker coating fabric. I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Paige nice video as always, love the fabric it’s a shame it’s run out of stock, it be nice to make a teddy bear toy with the fluffy fabric with pink or yellow fabric gingham for the paws and the ears. was thinking why do you add a yellow gingham thick button to add to the sleeves.

A teddy bear would be super cute! I am adding buttons I’m just waiting for the right ones :)

What I would do with the sleeve plackets is cut off the placket area and allow a seam allowance, buy some PU suede to match the jacket and sew on a PU suede placket then line the sleeves only with a very light weight satin lining to make it easier to get on and off.

Hi, I love this coat!!! I’ve got this pattern but I’m unsure what size to choose because of all the ease. You mentioned you mr coat is a medium. Would you mind me asking how you chose a medium? Thanks Claire

Hey! I always go by my actual measurements and not the finished measurements because the style of the jacket is designed to be a little boxy/oversized xx

Hi Paige, Thanks for the great video. I have some boucle with an Ilford in mind and was wondering if I should line it. Just come across your video and you've convinced me to give it a go! Your version looks lovely. Carrie.

Hey! I have always stated my videos are more vlog style and will let people know at the start of the video if it's a vlog or more step-by-step tutorial. I actually work for cheslea on social media for Friday pattern company and love the sew-along tutorials as they are a complete tutorial to accompany the sewing pattern, and designed for that reason - therefore why would I need to do a full sew-along when they already exist. My sewing vlogs are for fun, for anyone who enjoys seeing things come together. If you look at the description of my video you will see I also stated there that this wasn't a step-by-step sew along. Hope that helps

I leave my Janome even feed foot on all the time. Bit noisier but never worry about seeing any fabrics

Yay! it came together so well and looks amazing!!! definitely worth the extra effort with the hand sewing! you could always put poppers on the jacket for the meantime if you wanted, then you dont actually have to sew buttonholes, you can sew them on top! And walking foots are totally life changing! mine rarely comes off now! xxx

Do you have any tips for the collar? I keep getting a raw bit showing right where its attached from instructions 9 and 10! :(

    • @paigejoannaa

maybe you could try 'grading' the seam allowance so the under side is shorter then the top side and that may help to iron it slightly rolled under so you don;t see xxx
