Its quite a common question, either people think sharks aren't fish or they wouldn't know how to tell the difference, hopefully this video answers that.
Yes, as you've said sharks have placoid scales, or otherwise known and dermal denticles, and yes they are very rough, but these structures are microscopic, so unless you are looking at a shark through as microscope, as you correctly quoted from my video, they will 'look' smooth and this is in direct comparison to bony fish that have scales. Sharks have placoid scales and the skin has been used as literal sandpaper. But they should look smooth and not have scales? Um, okay.
