They really do pal yes - thing is, no amount of jiggery pokery in post processing makes them sound as they do in person. Bloody awesome mate.

Do you RC pilots ever lose the orientation of the machine? Every time that happens to me I crash but with all the flip de loops you do keeping orientation 100% of the time must be difficult.

Ahhh..................... yes it does happen in the early days of learning to fly yes. This is because we try to control the helicopter visually as an object 'out there' that we are looking at, get all confused on the orientation and then boom - into the ground it goes. But after a while, you no longer fly the Heli as an object but rather as an extension of yourself. This later description manifests itself in your control, as if you were flying it and therefore, orientation really becomes a sort of moot point.
When you couple this fact, with the thumbs doing their own thing (you actually no longer consciously move the sticks per se, muscle memory comes in) then orientation again sort of becomes a moot point - even at the top of loopy de loops and flips n stuff. Bottom line? Practice, time in the air, muscle memory and not flying too far away from yourself and........... a 6th eye = orientation 99.9% achieved. There's never a 100%. Ever. One of the reasons why normal 3D Sport Flyers will fly at around 75% of their own ability - room for error and failures etc.
However (2nd bottom line), Competition 3D pilots? I have absolutely no idea what they are doing - ever - it amazes me. I can only think less of orientation awareness and more just bashing them sticks in a routine - sort of like, up, down, left, left, A&B together = a new life. On a playstation!
      However - I know that's bollox. They're just immensely talented - fact.
      Hope that helps.

@@HeliShed Thanks very much for the explanation, that's interesting. Must be so good to get to the point where you can fly on just Instinct and not worry so much about loosing orientation. It's such a skill and I don't think the general public would understand the dedication and skill it takes. Particularly when they have had a go with DJI camera drone and found it so easy.
I've found I've got to the point where the excitement flying RC has gone, trying to progress is just stressful and not enjoyable, its a chore more than anything else. I'm ok with that and can just enjoy and appreciate watching others. I'm not planning to sell the rc heli so can return to it should I wish to have another go.

@@Ben-Dixey Yep - get it completely and the reason why so many leave the hobby - it really does take the wind out of the sails when the crashes come and the repair journey follows........................ it's also bloody expensive. However.............................. and here's the crux............... you have a Blade 400 3D if i remember rightly which was a pioneer really of 3D RC Heli's. As a comparator to say a Goosky S1 or even an OMP hobby, it's miles apart. Learning to fly with them now, using modes like stability mode really, has never been easy. Consider it. That said........................................ jesus Ben, you are actually doing it for real!!

@@yellacat Hi, so the helicopters you mentioned are a bit easier ? I did notice how for example the heading hold ability on tygers videos seemed so locked in. Yes that's correct, blade 400, well remembered, the heading hold doesn't work that well, when you increase lift/rotor rpm (non F mode flying) the tail will drift and has to be corrected. When entering into a potential crash this just adds to the problem.
I'm at a similar stage with the full scale but the excitement of flying that overrules the stress of flying it. This was the case with RC longer back.
There are times on both when you feel you are in good control, at that point the enjoyment is there.
I'll could certainly be persuaded to try Goosky S1 or OMP hobby. 👍

@@Ben-Dixey Oh yes - certainly are. Your helicopter uses the GY401 if i remember rightly which is only a tail heading hold vs rate mode where you will have to control the rudder at all times relative to speed / forward momentum and wind. In short, modern helicopters use a flybarless system where yours utilises mechanical centrifugal forces implemented by the flybar working with the GY401. Get yourself a Goosky S1 or S2 and feel the difference immediately. Failing that, wait for my visit - I'll bring you a toy to play with. ;-)
