I remember building these 50-years ago. I used an olive branch fork, found bands, and a bit of pouch salvaged from some cloth I found in the house. What a wonderful memory. Thanks!
Nice vid friend, in the uk west midlands, chained slingshots have been used for decades for plinking an hunting by locals. Its nice to see that a good well explained vid is on youtube explaining the procedure from start to finish in a good instructional vid. Well done sir....ive subbed as a result
Looks like a good slingshot for all it took to make it. This is a very similar chained band idea my best friend and I would make about 44 years ago. But good ideas can't be outdated it looks like. Great tutorial, Very nice of him to post it since there's not much monetary gain in it for SimpleShot
John Averick there is very little new in the world of slingshots and one of the most fun things about them is the ability to share the fun. It ain't about the money, just spreading love.
Thanks for taking the time to share your slingshot expertise. Great idea and a great project to share with my grandsons. You make some beautiful slingshots. Thanks again for the idea of using rubber bands.
Thank you for educating us about being able to use rubber bands for slingshot bands. When I was a kid, grandpa would send me over to a local store to buy some really big rubber bands that he would cut and use like a regular flat bands.
You've got that wrapping tec down! I had to watch a couple times to see how you were securing the loose ends. So you go over your thumb for the last wrap, then hold the loose end under the thumb & roll the loop off your thumb down on top of the loose end. Did I get that right?
Subscribed today!! I'm hooked. After seeing this vid I chained some (8)bicycle tire 'ranger bands' I even have a pseudo taper by cutting thicker ones at the fork ends. I like your paracord loop method too.Might use a stopper knot. Bike tire rubber last longer than other rubber bands and don't dry out.
Could you do a video showing wear on bands? I have some grey wear on my bands and I'm a little worried. I use double layer Theraband Gold bands with 3/8" steel. q
One time i made a slingshot from a natural wooden tree fork and i thought it was perfect i decorated it with colored tape idk why but then i had no bands so i found ways with office bands and cut a piece of leather from a watch and i kept facing problems, it wasn’t throwing stones far and the bands just kept breaking i kept on fixing it tryna find alternatives but no it kept breaking and i just gave up and thought slingshots were dumb and didnt work for me. Until my dad got me a wrist rocket then I looked on TH-cam and the problem was i had no bands that were actually good of course regular use rubber bands used for tying up cards or papers weren’t gonna work u need actually good material. then my extreme love obsession for slingshots came flooding on back, i lost the slingshot i while ago tho but now i have an super cool axiom ocularis with flat bands. I thought the axiom ocularis was really good better than the scout, then I realized the scout was way better though my axiom ocularis was already on its way! Then it came and i was shocked, the axiom ocularis is really cool and fun to play with and i look back at the scout and realize i dont think i would like that grip. I still wanna get one in the future tho but the internet was wrong the axiom ocularis is great its cool that I’m carrying Nathan’s signature slingshot
Is there something to put on your bands to keep them from drying out. Iv'e noticed that flat bands tend to turn white is this from the heat drying the bands.
You are correct from a functional point of view. However, petroleum products quickly degrade and break down latex. Using petroleum jelly as a lubricant would lead to premature band failure. If you are opposed to using saliva, the very best lubricant is isopropyl alcohol. We strongly do not recommend the use of petroleum jelly.
SlingshotWarrrior Where do you think he learned it from? I am the guy who introduced the use of the red clay #32s back in 2009 first in Jacksshed and then ssf and it saw its height at RSSF where Nate is a member and first shared his trial run experience with the chained red 32s. Right buddy?
Nico S Awesome brother ,I'm the one who invented the scrapper slingshot and the first to use nylon twine. To tie bands ,but we shooters look for new ways of making slingshots.
Nico S that right! My great grandfather used to speak of chained rubber bands, as did most of the folks in my region if they couldn't source red innertube rubber. When I finally tried them I knew why my great grandfather spoke so fondly of them. I believe he said he would get his from the post office.
True its all old stuff but give credit where credit is due.. I did turn people on to using the red clay #32s and I never said I invented anything. I did help re awaken the interest in these bands. Which you would not have tried with out our inspiration. Chained office bands have been in use for 150 years unless I'm older than that I cant make such a wild claim lol.
Your videos are great! However, over and over there is a serious camera mishap. You speak to explain something working with your hands, but the camera stays on your head completely ignoring where the real action is.
How come none of you slingshot expert's ever use superglue ??? .Superglue makes tying handsets SO MUCH EASYER it's like having another hand and nothing ever slips try it

Please make a closeup video where you show the trick of snapping a cut rubber band to lock it after wrapping it around the fork. That is neat!
this is the best tutorial ive seen so far...👏🏼👏🏼
That was fascinating. You are such a good teacher. Really enjoy your videos and my four slingshots from you. Thanks so much for all your hard work.!!!

Let's see, Nathan has wrapped about 213,4576 slingshots, so...
Seriously, though. Practice makes perfect!

the best lubricant for tightning the larks head is potroleum jelly
