Hey Thanks MCrider I ride a 2015 40th anniversary Honda Gold wing, I think I maybe one of the Shortest guys to ride a goldwing that I know,, (and I did say that I know) I'm barely 5'4"" just wanted to say that your videos have really help me out with my skills and has given me more confidence and riding my bike, I have alway rode a bike but I see now that I never really had any great skills, just want to say thanks for your video, thanks for your compassion and will power to want to teach others and help us realize our mistakes, by way beautiful Harley,,,,

I have to say McRider has been a phenomenal resource in honing my skills on my 2018 Harley Davidson Rd. glide. Your channel is without a doubt one of the most intuitive instructional channels on how to be safe on a motorcycle that I’ve seen in a long Time. I can’t thank you enough on how much you’ve helped me grow as a rider. I would love to learn how to ride like a cop and would absolutely watch that series.
Kevin, thanks for the great tips. My Dad was a Philly Highway Patrol Officer and would bring his Harley home with him. When I got my first bike in 1972 a Triumph Tiger, I remember him telling me that once you feel like you’ve mastered that Bike and get a little cocky with it, you’re going to get yourself in trouble. I’ve alway remembered his advice and have always respected the Bike. I am always trying to learn. Thanks again for the great videos, and good luck with the new wheel.
I cannot thank you enough for doing these videos. I have been practicing control in an empty parking lot and boy did it pay off. A bike went down a couple car lengths ahead of me on the freeway. The cars between he and I braked and swerved in front of me . As I'm emergency breaking too I realize I'm going to hit the car that swerved in front of me. I quickly thought to go around them, so I swerved to the left and then quickly to the right to avoid the downed biker, and BOY was it a sweet save. By the way, the guy was lane splitting (legal in Calif) and clipped the mirror on the a car. He wasn't hurt...luckily. Thanks again.
I didn’t realize how poorly that I was prepared to avoid an accident until I found MC Rider! I have a long haired dachshund that loves the wind, so I found a Honda Silverwing 600 scooter that is perfect for me, Sammo and our subdivision, He’s got to experience me “learning “ to ride again, but when I can sneak off without him ,I enjoy the open road and I feel a bit safer now! As a MSF and Riding Academy Instructor here in WA State, I so much appreciate the little tips and tricks I pick up watching your videos. Even as a seasoned rider, you're never too old or experienced to learn something. I'm going to use the right hand technique that you explained and see if I can adapt it to my riding and demos. Keep up the great work. I will definitely donate to the cause!!
Thanks Bruce, the motor officer that gave me that tip did not know how big the lightbulb was going off in my head. I have taught A LOT of students who struggled to make u-turns to the right. I never understood till yesterday why the right-hand turn was always the problem.
I have the fortunate luck of having a large parking lot across the street, Sunday mornings it is empty. I bought soccer cones and set up my own course to practice. The advanced course in my State is 3 hours away from where I live, I'm not ready to ride 3 hours yet, maybe next year I'll be ready. The other week two riders on Harleys saw me practicing, they came over to join. The u-turns presented a huge problem for them. Here I am, a 3 month rookie rider, and I was giving them pointers for making u-turns, and that was my sticking point in getting my endorsement. Thanks Kevin, following your advice, I'm becoming a much better rider.

I am now 70 years old and am now riding a Ducati Scrambler Icon, 800cc. This is coming to you from the south of France, lovely roads but crazy drivers, the French abhor vacuums and ride very close to ones number plate
Congrats on the road king. Love your vids for they are very informative. I've been riding on street for a few years off and on.Got my first street bike in 83. You really break it down well and always enjoyed that. Great advice and training. You can never learn to much and everyday riding you encounter different situations. Glad to have found you. I think your on ball, and doing great with the channel.

I'm excited to see this new series! I found your channel last spring and I must say, even though I've rode the most miles I ever have this year, I've had the least amount of "Oh shit!" experiences. I attribute that to your videos. Especially the defense riding and dealing with traffic ones. They've made a huge difference for me. Thanks for all you do buddy and God bless.

Ride like a Cop sounds like a good series. I'm fairly new to MC Rider but really enjoy you channel with the constant reminders of the safety tips and how to's. While I've logged many miles I want to concentrate more on the skills aspect. Keep it coming!!
Great topic ,i've been riding just over a year and while getting much better and more confident i have found myself avoiding right turns up hill . I thought it was me and my lack of experience and didn't think of hand position . I do practice on parking lots the things Kevin is teaching and today it will be right turns and uphill while watching hand position. Mcrider is a fantastic value for a few bucks a month .Thanks Kevin.
Sorry you had to sell the Triumph. Welcome to the HD family. I was at the Gulf South Police motorcycle skills competition in Gonzales La In Oct. There were a few guys from your part of the country there. It is awesome to see the way those guys throw those big Harley Davidsons around.

Thank you for your videos. You have helped me a lot. I know making right turns was my weakness. Am glad you brought it up. Now I need to practice that technique.
I'm brand new to motorcycling and so need to work on everything. I feel a lot less comfortable turning right than turning left and had no idea why. I just went to the parking lot to practice turns and focused on keeping a lighter grip on the throttle and elbow away from my ribs and it worked great. I was amazed at your riding videos of the cops. Those guys are good. I wouldn't have thought those big cruisers could be controlled with such precision. I couldn't do that even on those little beginner class bikes.
Hey congrats on the new harley. I did the same thing. I took the local ride like a pro class taught by a police motor officer in a parking lot and it really showed me where i needed help. I took a few of my friends to the class and they enjoyed it as well. Now we set up cones and practice 3 times a week. Good luck and enjoy the new bike.

Man I had the same problem with tight right turns. Thanks for the tip! I really appreciate all the work you put into your channel and I would be interested in the Ride Like a Cop series for sure. I practice some of the drills now so some more of your inside tips would be great.

First, Kevin, thanks for all your hard work on behalf of yourself, your family, and us. And thanks for the right-hand turn tip! Aces! I am the proud owner/rider of an '05 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 and while I have taken an MSF BRC course (I was riding a 300cc Vespa at the time!), I find that now I need more of the skills a big bike demands. So your vids and the Field Guide are big helps to me. And a "Ride Like a Cop" series would be great. MSF no longer offers courses in my area, so I think I need to find a way to bring them back...underwrite 'em or something. Thanks to watching your vids and sensing your enthusiasm, perhaps it's time I got off my own butt and did something here to promote MSF courses!

Great tip on the right hand turns!
I've been riding for almost 50 years, well 40 considering I stopped almost ten years ago and in that time I've never had an accident. Well my youngest son decided he wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle about two months ago so I bought a new bike. Now I've always rode bikes like the BSA 650 or Honda 750 but this time I bought a big heavy cruiser which had a much longer wheelbase and much less lean angle. It was then I realized that the difference in the way the bike handled essentially made me a learner with a license....You never stop learning.
My first bike was a BSA 650 Lightning. Talk about a love/hate relationship LOL. But there is something about a 400 LB 650 or 750 that makes them so much fun to ride. Just plain fun. After a 40 year hiatus, I'm back on a 650 thumper.
kybourbonboy.......I'm giving serious thoughts to getting a Suzuki Boulevard s40 650 single just for fun. But it's been hard to find any info on how it performs. Oh, BTW, the BSA 650 Lightning oops I mean Rocket was my first bike. I loved that bike! Except for the oil spots..Lol.
I can't really make comparisons as such because the last bike I rode before getting my S40 6 months ago was a Sportster I rode a couple of blocks about 25 years ago.
But my thoughts for what they are worth after putting 4K miles on mine....
-It is 381 pounds wet, great feeling riding around town. Nice and nimble.
-Very torque-y in the mid range RPMs , very "muscular" feeling, which is a lot of the fun to me. Max torque is about 3200 and peak HP about 5800 (redline is 6500). The bike seems happiest from about 3,000 to 4,500. 60 mph in 5th gear is barely 4,000. 5th gear is not much taller than 4th, only drops you about 200 rpm.
-Nice pull from 20 to 65. I have no trouble getting to highway speed on an on ramp. Will tool along at 65 quite well for as long as your butt can take it, but keep in mind that it is relatively light and it is a single. I wouldn't go any serious distance on a heavily truck trafficked interstate. Though it does have a counter balancer so I don't find it buzzy until 65+ . Still, that light weight means that 650 isn't working too hard pulling a lot of weight. I love the cruiser ride positioning. It has a nice low center of gravity.
- It has a Mukini carb, not fuel injection. Simple, rebuildable, no computer etc. To satisfy the fascists at the EPA it is too lean from the factory. Most owners rejet it. I did.
-It is belt driven, not chain. I have found I like it better. Less maintenance and less messy
-While it has a solid reputation for reliability, it does have a rep for a weak cam chain tensioner.
If you liked that BSA 650 feel, this is as close to that as you will get now. And it's a lot more reliable, hee hee. I feel like I am riding a motorcycle, not a 10,000 RPM techno gadget on 2 wheels. I am not a fan of sport bikes.

I have a Victory Vision Tour and I am 67" on a good day. I also have the ride like a pro dvd's. Every weekend I go out I pick out a practice goal during my ride and practice it at a near by empty lot for a few minutes. It does't' take too much time its the accumulative time of quality practice that makes a difference.

Well, here's what I'm doing. Going to the BRC this month, watching your vids, and got access to your field guide which I'm actually going to practice with starting today. One move I learned from you absolutely stopped a car from pulling out on me, so I became a Patron that day, figuring it was well worth it...and maybe priceless. Lastly, I thought something was wrong with me being so weak on my right turns. I'll be anxious to try out this technique for it.

Thanks for the great tip about u-turns to the right. I have been living in Thailand for a year which is a left drive country. I noticed my deficiencies on right u-turns early on and have improved greatly. But your tip about adjusting the throttle hand I’m sure will help greatly.

Good video, we appreciate your perspective and concern for other riders. I have benefited from Jerry Palladino's Ride Like a Pro material, which emphasizes law enforcement secrets for slow speed work. Your viewers would benefit from the basic material. There isn't a lot new under the sun here... police have known and practiced these skills since forever, but have not been keen on sharing their mojo. Spreading the knowledge far and wide is life-saving for every rider. And it just makes riding more fun and satisfying. Go for it.

Kevin congratulations on the new Harley. Welcome to the dark side lol. The series you are suggesting would be awesome. During the riding season in California I spend a lot of time with my wife on the back. During the winter most of the time I ride solo. When riding season starts again we start the same routine we have for years. Practice getting on and off the bike in the garage. Then down to the school yard where we go through starting and stopping as well as turns and u turns. We have clocked over 30K miles together and every year we start and end our routine without exception.

VERY interested in the "Ride Like a Cop" series. How funny... I've planning on taking training up here in the Pacific Northwest this coming summer from a group that goes by the same name! Low speed technical skills are so valuable on the street as well as in the dirt where I play (trials bikes!).
Bring on the ride like a cop series! Riding a smaller bike is different form riding a larger, longer, bike that's for sure. Doesn't mean you can't be proficient with both. Me, I'm not all that proficient at all, but I know my limits! I've learned some from watching your videos, and will be spending more time 'training'. Even though I started riding 53 years ago, I've never really learned the things I need to know. Still riding! Still learning! Thanks so much for your videos!

I’ve seen Donny ride many times. He is as nice a guy as he is a rider. I ride a 2015 FLHP Police Road King. You will see guys on BMW & Yamaha FJR. BTW: I have no vested interest in any of those schools, but I have had exposure to some them & I know the guys who are associated with others.

The BRC course (required in FL to get a MC 'endorsement' on your licence) given at HD dealerships use the baby Harley (500cc.) So if you want a bigger bike for the BRC, just go to HD.

I thought it was just me that had trouble with tight right turns, I learned from this video and will be in a parking lot putting that looser grip on the throttle into practice now.
Great vid.. that info near end on right hand u turns...thankyou for answering that.. I always wanted to know the reason for the difficulty on right full lock compared to left full lock.

Jare bear here Ken it's admirable you want to compete I'd like to give you a suggestion if you do. Pick up a motorcycle spring seat that the police use you can get them for about 150 bucks it brings you two to three inches further forward for full locks thanks again for all your videos I learned a little bit about the right hand u-turn with the hand from you thanks again best wishes jare Bear

I am very interested in any sessions that help to hone bike handling skills. I recently changed bikes. I have been riding for 40+ years. I love to practice skills and get to know my bike so its like an extension of me. I have moved from a Yamaha Roadliner (great bike) to a 2018 Goldwing (amazing bike). I am processing the new challenges. ABS. Traction control. Linked brakes. DCT auto transmission. These differences fundamentally affect the way we handle the bike and how it responds to our inputs and the roads. I would love a video that looks at how moving to newer bikes with newer technology translates to how we ride. My habits, muscle memory etc are deep. I need to think through this process. Every other bike I have owned has been essentially a variation of the same tech. This one is completely different. I am confident that this bike will allow me to be an even better rider (notice I didnt say "make me a better rider") Thanks again for the great video series.

I hadn't noticed that turning thing. I'll definitely check that once the snow is gone. For me the major issue is ultra fast braking situations. When whatever you need to avoid hitting comes as a surprise and is very close when you see it. My reflex is to grab the front brake hard and the risk of locking the front wheel is significant.
Yes, I had a banker friend tell me one time that people would let the food bill, the car payment and the utilities go before they missed the motorcycle payment .
