    I’ve been watching your channel for awhile now. And in the age of clickbait and “OMG YOU WONT BELIEVE WHAT I CAUGHT!?!?!?!” Fishing videos, where people just tend to get all excited over nothing, you truly are the bob ross/Mr. Rogers.
    Someone I can watch with my kids. Someone I can actually see is a skilled fisherman.
    Thanks for posting. Thanks for being calm. Thanks for being a great role model for young fisherman/woman.

      Adam Caldwell me too. After an almost nine year layoff; I just got back into it. I have never gotten the size and quality of fish as i did these past three months. Not the numbers that I remember, but very few dinks and mostly good smallies for this region.

      @@lt.pickles6383 Last May I caught a 21'' LMB on the Rapala Rippin Rap 05 ''live Bluegill'' pattern. Changed out to a Lucky Craft LV500 ''Golden Shiner '' pattern and landed a 20 1/4'' SMB 5 minutes later. My most productive lure thus far has been River2sea's Ruckus lipless crankbait ''Perch'' pattern. 2020 my focus will be Jerkbaits.

    Btw, do not change the “no-music” format of your videos. Many good videos are ruined by this one simple mistake....

I'm 47 now and I have to date only by accident caught a deep river SMB and a LMB in a watershed and that's it. Then I find this channel. I bought me a kayak, got some new rods and tackle to match the good Dr of dinkless behemoths. I plan to make it my best year. Can't wait. the yak arrives Friday. • @PROutdoors94
      @PROutdoors94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Gregory Rappaport can’t speak for Mike directly but up here in Canada I fish roughly the same way. Lots of times you just feel resistance and start seeing your line move in a different direction, that’s when you know a fish has picked it up. Other times you see the tip of your rod “bounce” and the line twitch.

    Matt,
    It’s seems like the season had just started and now it is coming to a close. Maybe a sign of age! A great video as always. They all were quality fish. The two 20” fish look like they were in the 4 to 5lbs range or larger (footballs) the others not too far behind. I would be happy to catch anyone of them let alone all of them. Hard water is coming here also and i have not been able to fish for over a month. I get my fishing fix via TH-cam during the winter months. I will look forward to anything you put out over the next few months either via hard or soft water fishing it will all be good. Stay safe.

    Some people claim that river smallmouth shut down and won't bite when the water gets below 50 degrees. Or, that the only way to catch them in cold water is a float 'n' fly through the deepest pools. Way to prove them wrong! (That being said, the only way I have ever caught them in cold water is a float 'n' fly style rig through deep pools!)

    Were you wearing a dry suit??? I went in 37° water before while wading and it wasn't pleasant...

    Can you maybe change your lure a bit to see what else the smallies are biting? That would be interesting to know if they also bite lipless or jerkbait.

    You should weigh some of the fish u catch now then

      I’ll have to get a new scale one of these days. My Rapala one said 4-3 last time I weighed a 21.5” so I question its accuracy.

    hey bud,new sub here.I live on a big river here in West Virginia,&target similar fish to what you were catching today(along with largeys and spots).I'm looking for a good,versatile rod for swimbaits:what kind of rod are you using?I have a quantum that just popped the tip guide insert,& its low-end anyway.I'm looking for a good rod to throw smaller Kietechs and other swimbait type presentations on.

      I use a 6’8” M XF St Croix Legend Tournament. Their Bass-X rods are really nice too at a fraction of the cost of the LT’s and they make them both with pretty similar specs. The M XF’s are great for light jigs/swimbaits like I was using here and unweighted plastics. If I go heavier than a 1/4oz jig head I’ll usually switch to the M F which has a little bit heavier tip.

    Great video with some nice fish. How do you "thumb" your spool with winter gloves on?
    Thanks

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! It gets tough to thumb the spool accurately with gloves any thicker than the ones I was wearing but I was able to do it like I normally do with them. I didn’t need to be too precise with my casts either plus fishing as slow as I was I wasn’t casting often.

    Such quality fish. I'm surprise that little river isn't crawling with boats or at least other yak fishers. I hope that wasn't your last yak trip of the year.... but if it was.... you went out with a bang for winter! Thanks for sharing.

      It must have been a little too cold out there for everyone else. The week before when it was in the high 40’s there were a few other kayaks and several people fishing from shore.

    Wow how exhilarating! I saw that first fish take your bait, I was watching the line twitch. Then you set that hook and an absolute chunk got slayed. I learn so much from your skills bro. Please keep 'em comin'

      I forgot to mention it in this video but I had a 6’8” M XF St Croix Legend Tournament, Quantum Smoke 7:1 reel, and 10lb Trilene Sensation.

    Great video, can you message me about, what brand model of kayak you use. And any elaboration on how you retrieved that jig. if I saw it right it look like you were just very slowly twitching it along

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! My kayak is a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120. That’s about right as far as how I was fishing the lure, when the water is that cold I’ll fish it almost painfully slow twitching it along the bottom. Generally the colder the water is the slower I’ll fish a lure.
